Villas Romana in Doncaster

Myself and my boyfriend have been here a few times and have never ever been disappointed! The food is exceptional! We try to have something new each time we go and have always enjoyed what we have eaten. Hasan is one of the wait staff there who always remembers us and makes us feel at home- a very lovely man and a credit to the restaurant! We love this place and will be back soon!

Food is great (the Brie starter is amazing!!) Massive portions and attentive and helpful staff! Really nice atmosphere and lots of vegetarian options. Would definitely recommend. :) Great limoncello

Had a fab meal here last night crab cakes were to die for , only negative about our experience was we felt a bit rushed our table was 8.15 and we had paid the bill by 850 x

The ambiance was ok and the restaurant was clean and tidy however when it comes to food it's a different story.I ordered a mushroom starter. The mushrooms were under a crisp topping and they were cold. When i pointed this out the waitress took the dish and 2 minutes later bought out the same dish, minus the crust that had been heated in a microwave. When i pointed out they bought me back the same dish, minus the crust I was told i was mistaken and it was a newly prepared one. After a couple of minutes arguing the point i sent the dish back.My main was a steak dish and that too was cold. The same process as with the starter then began resulting in me sending the food back.At the end of the meal when i challenged the owner he was unconcerned and refused to accept there had been a problem. I won't be going back and i would not recommend eating here.

First came here on Valentine’s Day and we have returned several times since, the food is always amazing and the staff very welcoming. This place is my all time favourite!

Found this place on trip and were looking to read to a nice night after reading all the fantastic reviews. We were not disappointed, wow what a lovely place. Under refurb upstairs which worried us a little but the atmosphere, service and ambiance down stairs was great. Waiters and waitresses were excellent, very polite and attentive. Meals were beautiful and a beautiful bottle of red washed it down lovely. Reopening soon under new name but can't wait for our return visit. We done all the staff. Authentic Italian, one of the best we've tried.

We were a party of 6 and it was the first visit for all of us. Service was great and the food was lovely. Will definitely be visiting again. We were a bit sceptical at first as the upstairs is currently being refurbished, and we were unsure that the main seating area is downstairs, so don’t be put off! Our new favourite in Doncaster!

We recently visited Villas Romana on a work night out following a very successful year. They made us feel very welcome and are very accommodating. The downstairs restuarant has a very authentic feel, almost like a wine cellar and it's a very private section if youre the only ones in which was very nice. All the food was fantastic, I wouldnt even know where to start with recommendations, everyone around the table had high praise for their meals.

We visited for a family birthday celebration as a group of 8 and although the food was delicious and we loved the atmosphere the service was really slow. It took over 1hr 30 minutes for our main course to arrive. Great place as long as you're ok with the wait.

I visited with my family and we enjoyed the steak and chicken. The food was all amazing and really delicious. Definitely good value for money. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Could not have asked for a better dining experience.

First visit ion its current incarnation. Friendly greeting, very nice waitress and prompt attention. The Bruschetta to start with was one of the best we have tasted.

I visit Villa Romana quite often and so far it is definitely been the place to-go. Excellent service, yummy cocktails, delicious food and.... desserts! Never left this place without having fresh tiramisu! Love it! Will be back again soon.

Went there on Saturday for a birthday treat it's a lovely atmosphere the service was good with friendly and helpful staff I had salmon with scallops and mussels and it was absolutely amazing would defiantly go there again

Visited here on a Friday night and found the service attentive and food delicious. Steak cooked to perfection and the sea bass the same. Lovey place to spend an evening in.

Never had a bad meal here it's always fresh tasty and the staff are friendly and can't do enough for u only niggle I had last time was we were in the corner downstairs so was a tad squashed but that has never been an issue before

Called in for an unexpected Saturday lunch- really lovey and chilled - food was great And service was attentive and not over pushy. Doncaster needs more place like this - and for more locals to support it .

We visited last night for some tea and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Great portion sizes and very very tasty. We had three pasta dishes and shared a garlic pizza bread, very relaxed meal we were able to sit and chat whilst enjoying our food. The staff were very attentive and super friendly, we will definitely be back thank you for a lovely evening.

Went for a meal with 3 friends one of whom was celebrating their Birthday. This was my first time at Villas Romana and I'll definitely be back. We all had different main courses and they were all fantastic. I had the chicken stuffed with spinach and goat's cheese and I can honestly say it was the best meal I've ever had. The service was incredible. Special shout out to Masood and Diana who made our night!! Nothing was too much trouble. The table had been trimmed up with balloons and birthday confetti and my friend received a complimentary birthday dessert and we all had complimentary shots. Thank you for a fab night!!!

The owner and the staff at Villa Romanos are the most wonderful hosts, attentive, polite and friendly. They make you feel at home. The food is outstanding and each dish is created with great care. The menu truly has something for everyone. We would highly recommend a visit to this lovely restaurant as often as possible!

We visited here as a party of 6 on a Sunday night for my birthday and had an enjoyable evening. The food was tasty and the staff were friendly. The only issue we had was having to wait ten minutes for the vegetables and potatoes to arrive to accompany the meat dishes and when they did some of the potatoes were cold. Apart from this I would recommend going here for a meal. The prices were really good as we ordered from the set menu.

Had the best meal here, absolutely amazing. The food was clearly cooked fresh and the service was fantastic. By far the best Italian we have ever been to including Italy!

Went yesterday evening and booked a table around 5pm and managed to get in for 9pm. Excellent food and service once again. Cannot complain about anything. Great quality for a decent price. Reccommend whole heartedly.

In Doncaster for 1 night on business. Just ate here and ordered the Penne Caserecce. Slow cooked beef with a creamy sauce. Was delicious. Possibly best bowl of pasta I ever ate! Discussed with the owner exactly how they made it so I can recreate at home and become a legend! Can't recommend this place enough. Service also impeccable.

Visited yesterday evening. Staff were lovely. Very helpful and attentive. We ordered from a two course menu. We all ordered different starters and main courses and each one was lovely, tasty and of excellent quality. Will certainly visit again

My partner and I have had lovely meals here on several occasions. Tonight we took our 2 teenage boys and 8 month old baby. We received a very warm welcome, the food and service we received was excellent. We had a wonderful evening and felt I needed to express my gratitude on how welcoming they were to us as a family.

This restaurant has been under new management for over a year and what a difference. The service, food Quality and wines have been completely transformed. This has become a regular monthly treat for us. Quite simply an outstanding restaurant to visit a credit to all the staff who work hard to ensure you have a great experience. My personal favourites gamboretti & calamari fritti served with home made tarter sauce and for mains linguinepollo carbonara made the way it should be done.

We last came to villas romana end of April for our wedding anniversary we were a party of 8 once again the service and food are exceptional. This is why we try to come back once a month. Thank you

Our second time coming here Food is absolutely lovely, I had the chicken stuffed with goats cheese which was beautiful, the sauce was amazing. All the staff are very chirpy, great service. Would definitely recommend for a nice meal out.

Love Italians & where ever I, we go, its a must & this didn't disappoint.

I do not usually leave bad reviews but in this instance I have to say our experience was horrific. We ordered king prawns and scallops in sauce to start. After waiting 30 minutes this came out in a soup bowl and the prawns were cooked not very well at all.

Lovely restaurant with good Italian food, reasonably priced and the staff are friendly and happy to help however i would give it a miss when there is a race meeting as it can get very busy.

Very good Italian restaurant, best in Town by far. Under new ownership and improving every time we visit. Busy at usual times so pick you time accordingly, especially on Friday Saturday and Sunday. Good menu selection for food and drinks and fairly priced. Very friendly staff and good service. The owners sense of humour might surprise you so be aware. Will be back for sure. Highly recommended.

Did not like the table position, which was close to the toilet door and a large cupboard. The guitarist/singer was very amateurish but good humoured and well intentioned.

My first visit to Villa Romanas and I was not disappointed. This restaurant is deceptively spacious, with a few tables at ground level, then more tucked away downstairs - it had such a lovely atmosphere. I chose the Fromaggio Fritto to start, then the Risotto Verde which was absolutely delicious, so creamy and indulgent, and then the warm pear and almond tart with ice cream to finish. The final bill between my 2 two friends and i was very reasonable.

Been here for the first time last Sunday, with my boyfriend, and hopefully won’t be the last ! The food was amazing, very tasty and the portions were huge !

Thank you to all the staff who looked after us last night making my son's 21st Birthday wonderful. We were a large party and were accommodated perfectly downstairs. We were early diners but we were made very welcome all the staff were attentive and the food was delicious, we were not rushed and the coffee was superb. We will visit again now we live near Doncaster and we keep finding little gems.

This is our first visit to Villas Romana and we’ll certainly be coming back! Great service from all staff and the place and it’s decor is wonderful. We ordered bruschetta and prawn cocktail starters which were very tasty followed by pollo piccante and involtino di pollo which were outstanding in flavour! The only slight negative was that we had to ask twice for the chips that came with the mains.

When here for a family birthday meal, service was really good. Was really busy so if you wanted to go I would advice booking. Reasonable prices.

Having visited here for my daughter's 20th birthday, we we're not disappointed. We we're shown to our table immediately, very good menu choice too. Food was fantastic, could not fault a thing. Great atmosphere and we even had fun singing along with Mimmo and his guitar.

We have been to Vila Romana since it was Carlos Italian , it has changed hands numerous times and has always been just alright !! , however this is probably the last time we will go under the present management sadly , the staff here are great and cannot do enough for you , the food however is another story as we feel we can cook better at home and is no longer an enjoyable experience out .

What can we say. Service 1st class food absolutely amazing. A delightful place well worth a visit. Waitress so attentive. Cannot fault this place at all.

Visited this establishment last night with my partner and his family. The food and the service was very good. All starters were very well presented. The antipasto plate I had was good but I would have liked a few more olives =) and some butter. Our main courses were served quickly after we had finished our starters. We had 4 pasta dishes and a steak. We all enjoyed our meals. Very filling. We couldnt fit in a pudding. Also this place is reasonably priced for the portions you get =). We will be coming again.

Visited for wife`s birthday lunch.She had Tagliatelli with Prawns and crab meat whilst I had fillet steak with chips,green peppercorn sauce and mushrooms in garlic.Excellent wine followed by cheese cake and brandy with coffee.Very friendly and attentive server.Large comprehensive menu .She said new management had been there for last two months.Cosy interior and we would return again.

Classic Italian menu and decor. Good selection and good quality food at reasonable prices. Very warm welcoming and comfortable. Lovely friendly and professional staff who go out of there way to be helpful. Under new management and improving bit by bit every time we visit.Highly recommended and will be back.

It was our first ever visit, late walk in but still service was top notch... food was brilliant....tried Seabass and medium done steak. Loved all the food, gonna visit again. Highly recommended it:)

Visited here for lunch a week ago and the pizza I had was as good as any I had whilst living in Rome. They are using good quality produce at a very reasonable price. My partner had the chicken panini with home cooked chips and again that was fabulous. Whilst there we booked to go again with family. We ate from the festive party menu. A really good choice of food all prepared and served to an extremely high standard so you know the chef knows his ingredients. The staff could not have been more helpful and attentive without being obtrusive. The new owners already have a restaurant with a winning formula of staff and food in a nearby village and Villa Romanas looks set to follow the same star thanks to their unique formula combining exceptional food at reasonable prices with fantastic staff.

Myself and my partner dine here whenever we get the chance and every time we come, the service and quality of the food never fails to disappoint, we visited here on the 15th December as a third anniversary meal with a twist! To my girlfriends surprise, I had arranged with the restaurant that I was going to propose after we had our main meal. Everything was brilliant, the whole night was brilliant and the staff and management are a credit to the restaurant. As if happened, the night ended brilliantly as my girlfriend accepted my proposal of marriage, and we are looking forward to returning again soon, please keep up the good work!!! We had dinned here before a few years ago and decided on a last minute date night. We called around a few of the local eateries which were all fully booked (well it was prime office party time) One call to the Villas Romana and the table was booked. We arrived a little early, was shown to our table by a very friendly gentleman and was given the menus to look over. Service was quick and within 10 minutes we had ordered our starters and had drinks brought over to the table. Food was lovely, all 3 courses cooked to perfection, drinks refilled without having to ask or get anyone's attention and all for a very reasonable price.

Pre booked and pre ordered food. A couple of people had cancelled from our group on the night and the restaurant handled this with no issues. Good was lovely, a variation of dishes both starters and mains any everyone enjoyed it all. We asked to not charge any drinks to the table so we used the bar to get our own which was nice and easy. All tasty and good service, we will be back!

Not been to this restaurant for about 3 years because we had a bad experience when owned by previous people. The food and wine are now excellent and the staff are very welcoming. Will be definitely returning.

I booked here for a party of 20 for my 40th birthday family meal Upon arrival there was no greeting just shown to our table by a waiter, this seemed to follow throughout the evening No order was taken for food for an hour after arriving and I found it strange for customers of a restaurant to have to go to the bar for they’re own drinks, my lasagne & another guests arrived frozen still in the middle and after sending it back had to wait 45 mins for another to arrive burned! By this time everyone else had eaten & we both ended up not eating at all! On booking I was asked if I would like the table decorating and was dumbfounded to arrive to 1 balloon and some 21st birthday confetti thrown on the table. All in all a massive let down for a special occasion

After our initial visit approximately 3 weeks ago we have returned every week since, the food is excellent as is the service and the atmosphere. The downstairs cellar dining area is beautiful with is natural brick and wood decor and vaulted ceilings. Villas Romana is ideal for all occasions, we have dined as a couple and enjoyed the romantic atmosphere and also as a larger group for a birthday dinner, every time the food and service has been outstanding. Well done to the new management and the gracious staff.

well its the 1st time about a month ago we went and it was wonderful evening and gorgeous food so welcoming that we have been since about 4 times so that says everything only problem that we have to share this restaurant with le fiesta at armthorpe so we dont upset the 2 brothers and alex lol donnamarie and john smith

We have been coming here years on and off and very much welcomed with open arms by the staff and owner. This time around we felt a little unwelcome to the stage we almost didnt stay.In all fairness the staff were professional. I had some confussion with my interpretation of the menu and in all sincerity the staff could do no more to assist. I did though enjoy my food.We doubt we would return now as its lost its appeal to us.Food was all around ok though we feel the standards have dropped.Good luck to the new owners. As a suggestion, possibly get the card machine working.....

This was my first visit to this restaurant. When we arrived there was a sign on the door that the card machine wasn't working so cash only... fair enough these things cannot always be helped but I would have contacted the booked tables and informed them of this information because in today's society card is the way people tend to pay. We then had to walk to find a cash machine which proved a task Back to the restaurant. We were seated at our table downstairs. It was very busy which initially bodes well in thinking the food is good. We ordered drinks which did not arrive until we asked again and we had to ask for menus.We arrived at 8pm and had ordered our starters at 8.20 approx. At 9 pm I had to ask where the starters were... I feel that is too long to wait for a course.The starters were very nice... all of our party enjoyed them We then proceeded to wait for our main course. Again after along wait I had to ask. I appreciate that they were very busy but if all the tables cannot be dealt with in a timely manner then so many tables shouldn't be available.The main courses arrived and again everyone enjoyed them. My lasagne was very tasty and the side of garlic and tomato bred was very tasty. All staff were very polite when communicating with us but were rushed off their feet trying to accommodate so many customersSo in summary the food is very nice but the organisation lets it down

very rarely do I write negative stuff, however last night despite booking well in advance for my girlfriends birthday, we arrived on time to be shown our table that was stuck next to a brick pillar and about the size of a postage stamp, it was packed and staff were running around like headless chickens, we waited to be served for a drink but clearly that wasn't happening anytime in the near future, so we stood up and left,I really like this place but last night was an utter farce,sort your service out and stop packing people in like cattle.

I have been celebrating my birthdays here for the last 3 years and every time we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Despite it being St Leger night the standard of service and the excellent quality of the food remained wonderful. Thank you to all the staff who did a superb job in the face of increased numbers and high demands from race goers many slightly the worse for alcohol! This is still the best restaurant in Doncaster and we would not hesitate to recommend it to everyone. A must on every visitors list to Yorkshire.

First time in Doncaster found this place on TA. Very busy evening as was Doncaster Races however food arrived promptly and staff were very attentive. Meatballs starter Fillet tequila and Balsamic Fillet Steak for mains. Nana's lemon taste for desert. All the food was beautiful and bottle of recommended wine great.

We came here on Friday and the food was beautiful. I had Lasagne and Garlic Bread with Cheese and Tomato. Our party of 7 all enjoyed their meals. I shall definitely return. I used to come here years ago when it was Carlo's. The food has just gotten better. The staff were lovely too.

My friend and I popped in for tea one Friday just by chance and we really wished we had been to this restaurant before!!! Food and service was excellent and at a price that was not going to break the bank. We really enjoyed our eating experience here and feel sure we will be vusiting again and will highly recommend to all our friends

We arrived without a booking on a Saturday night and was given a table right away although it was nearest to toilet door so had ppl passing us every minute or so .we ordered water and a bottle of red house wine which was promptly delivered .We would have appreciated a jug of tap water instead of the very expensive bottle of water the wine was quite nice and reasonable price .The food was average of many typical Italian places ,portions sizes were ok but we had starters of meatball in tomatoes sauce and mushrooms covered in cheese and baked both were nice but lacked the humphhhh of flavour .our main of a pizza and calzone again portion size ok but the calzone was topped with their Bolognese sauce which I thought was just a very poor boiled mince the pizza I was told was very nice .we gave deserts a miss has the choice had nothing we fancied all in all ok but nothing special for us

we had a gluten free guest with us and nothing was too much trouble food was superb Good range of drinks and a terrific menu.Family friendly ,would we eat there again You bet we will.

Beautiful food and great service. Not cheap, but well worth it. I cannot think of any other place where you can get such beautiful food, served well and so promptly.

12 of us visited this establishment for a delicious meal out and we weren't disappointed. The service was prompt and not a single order wrong or forgotton! The food was simply delicious. Each of us had 2 courses each and none of us could find a fault with anything! Drinks ordered at the table arrived literally seconds after ordering and we were left alone to enjoy our food and each others company. An enjoyable time was had by all and i cant wait to return.

We met up with some good friends at this divine restaurant, our table was booked for 7pm, we enjoyed drinks at the bar before being shown to our table. The place was busy, which is a great sign and the atmosphere was electric. We had the pleasure of Joana Ursica look after us at our table, this young lady made our night, she was extremely attentive, she knew the menu inside out and made her recommendation to us all. We really appreciated her advice and we were not disappointed, as the food was wholesome and scrumptious. I am ashamed to say we all polished off three courses. Great service, great food and great company made for a brilliant night. Will definitely go back to see Joana again as she made us all feel so well looked after. Next time we go I fancy doing the 3 course early bird deal before 6pm as that looks amazing value for money! Would not hesitate in recommending Villas Romana to anyone seeking a tasty treat in a romantic and rustic Italian setting. Once again thank you to Joana !
