Village Mangal in Chiltern

I was thoroughly disappointed when I found hair in my soup. I pointed it out to tje waiter but totally ignored me. I am not one for compensation but an apology would have been suffice. The waitress just ignored what I said as it could have been worse than just a hair. It was her attitute that wS most concerning. I live in Amersham and always take my children and grand children there. I will not go ever againor recommend to anyone.

We went tonight to celebrate a birthday, at 7pm it was lively and busy. We hadn’t booked but were sat straight away. We have been before and always enjoy the food, but today it was DIVINE. We tend to go for the Villa Mangal Special for 2, we love how the juices from the meat flavour the rice that it sits on, as the meat is flavoured beautifully and is juicy and moreish. The bread they bring to the table prior is always warm and delicious and I believe it’s complementary. The atmosphere was great, I believe it’s family run and the staff are attentive. My partners face with every mouthful was pure bliss and I’m very pleased we celebrated his birthday here.

What a find! It was recommended by a friend who knows ... and she was right! Perfect spot for family. Despite not knowing Turkish cuisine, the menu was not complicated and we took Farouk's recommendation. Generous portions, freshly made and delicious - we loved it all. Super service and lovely atmosphere. Many thanks team, we will be back.

Visited early on Saturday evening. Warm friendly welcome. Delicious food. Complimentary bread and barbecue onions served before the meal, so tasty. Lovely succulent lamb and chicken served with rice and a lovely salad. Will definitely visit again.

My Wife and I had a fantastic meal the service was great and a hustle and bustle atmosphere. Reasonably priced as well we will be going back

Unfortunately I can’t state many good reasons for writing this review as the quality of the meat was good but expensive with small portions. I’m not a huge fan of salads so when I requested the salad to be removed it left very little on the plate. See picture. Only one thing that was excellent was our waiter Faroke who was pleasant and a good ambassador for the restaurant sorry to say the other guys who were there was sitting around on their phones and not interested in interacting with guests.

Are here today for the first time. Our waiter Farouk could not have been more polite, helpful and friendly, he was absolutely lovely, and couldn’t do enough for us. Had the combo bbq lamb and chicken Shish and meat was to die for, perfectly cooked and tender, really enjoyed it.

I’ve eaten here twice now as the food is incredible and the atmosphere is really friendly. The vegetarian options are superb too, so if you’re veggie this is a great choice. The staff are so friendly that they helped my dad (78 years old and frail) walk through the restaurant to the toilet, making sure he was safe and making great conversation with him. It was really nice to see a busy restaurant take such good care of its customers. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Amersham, Village Mangal is a must visit gem.

Amazingly, this was our first time ever visiting this restaurant, despite the fact they have been in Amersham for 12 years! It did not disappoint - the welcome, service, food and attentiveness (without being overbearing) was all excellent. The mixed starters, chicken and lamb kebabs were fantastic. When we arrived at 6pm the restaurant was so quiet, but much busier and buzzy when we left. Pricewise, it was pretty good value too (for this area we live in). We will be back very soon!

A regular haunt of ours and a firm family favourite! The village mangal special for 2 is exceptional and the salad is truly authentic

A very nice surprise to revisit this restaurant after a couple of years. The food is delicious and plentiful. We enjoyed a very pleasant family meal. Highly recommended.

Greeted warmly on arrival, very attentive staff, absolutely delicious food and very reasonable prices. Oh, and huge main courses too. Free bread to die for. And it’s open on a Monday unlike so many restaurants post-covid. Absolute gem of a place. Book and go there!!

We've been coming over the last few years and had lunch today. Service is good and friendly and most importantly the food is great, fresh and good portion size. Cleanliness is excellent. Lovely clean toilets. In my opinion it is the best Turkish grill you can find.

We used to go to Village Mangal regularly and it was absolutely unbeatable. However the last 3 takeaways have been nothing more than gross. The bread was stale, very small portions of rice, salad was just pickles cabbage and onions and the chicken was dry. We were so dissapointed as the recent one confirmed that we would not be going there again.

Upsetting to speak to a friend who has recently visited this establishment and witnessed a breathtakingly appalling display of racism. He, entered this restaurant with a friend.They were neither told to sanitise and one of them had no mask. They ate a fine meal and as they were paying, a black couple with a baby arrived to eat. She was wearing a hijab. She sat down and was told No, that she couldn't be in the restaurant without sanitising or wearing a mask. They had to leave immediately she left in tears.This is totally unacceptable behaviour. Don't support such an establishment.

We made an impromptu visit to the Village Mangal and we were very pleased we did. The mixed grill was deliciously moist and flavoursome. The atmosphere was lively and upbeat. The service was attentive, prompt and well informed. Covid measures were in place and observed....

Never had a bad meal here. The owner is always on hand to greet the customers and e site they are well looked after. All the staff are very customer focussed and super friendly. They are especially kind and attentive to their younger guests. It is my son’s favourite place to eat.

Place looks clean and pleasant. Tried this out as my other favourite kebab place has closed. It was a super nice, salad was fresh, lightly dressed, mixed grill was fab, was a bit of everything to try and cooked perfectly well, all very good. A nice surprise was the lamb doner was not fatty miced lamb but lamb pieces stacked together into doner shaped for grilling, a rare sight and also tasted great. Will be back again very soon.

Been coming here for many years and it always used to be good value, well cooked food and huge portions. Was a favourite place to bring our friends from the States.However, since the refurb, our visits have not been that great. Prices have gone up a lot and the quality of food, particularly the lamb chops and ribs, very gristly and overcooked, has taken a nose dive. Even our overseas friends have noticed the declining standards.Big changes in staff too.Sorry guys, but we are finding better elsewhere in the locality. Such a shame because we always used to rate it 5 stars.

Used to love this place - it’s still busy and service always OK but the prices are now silly for a couple of meat skewers (£14-15) and the portions also on the mean side. No longer the great value local it once was.

We have eaten here twice and we can not fault the food, portions, service, atmosphere and price. The staff are lovely. They are attentive without being intrusive and they never make you feel rushed in the slightest. They really do want you to enjoy your visit.Our waiter made us delicious Mojito mocktails and there not even on the menu! He did this especially for us and they were so yummy we had 2 each. I know I’ve mentioned the food already above but it is amazing. It is flavourful, seasoned to perfection and so fresh. We couldn’t eat everything and we were so pleased when our waiter asked if we wanted to take the leftovers home with us. Everything comes with delicious fresh bread, fresh dips and a gorgeous fresh salad so don’t eat before you go! Highly recommended!

Terrible experience for a friends birthday meal. Ignored by servers, long wait for food and some of the order was incorrect. No apology for the delay of food (1hr+ )and rushed out for the next booking without knowing when we reserved a table. Won’t go again which is a shame because the food is really nice.

I have dined here hundreds of times, I usually go at least once a week - I keep returning as I am so impressed with the consistency, taste, quality and service.I’m always greeted with a warm welcome, nothing is too much trouble, and the staff are happy to cater to any requirement.The chargrilled onions with pomegranate molasses and homemade bread which are served with two sauces (given to you on arrival) are incredibly more ish and it’s hard to stop but you must otherwise you won’t be able to eat the very generous portions of main courses!I usually opt for the Chicken shish. It’s always fabulous and tasty. My friend usually opts for the lamb shish, the lamb is amazing, however, with all meats, on the very odd occasion this can be chewy, through no fault of the restaurant.I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough, over the years I’ve taken many friends and family members, who have gone on to take their own friends as they have been so impressed. It gets very busy (and of course noisy, but this adds to the atmosphere) on Friday and Saturday evenings, and the takeaway orders are busy on Fridays too.The entire staffing team make such an effort if there is a birthday celebration and all come and sing to the person in question.There is always a good mix of people dining and a good mix of ages including children who are part of family groups.The prices may have gone up a little bit recently, but I would struggle to find another restaurant offering such high quality and consistency for this price, given the fact you would be paying no more than £20 for a pre starter (bread, onions and sauces) and a main meal. Fantastic venue and I always look forward to going back to Village Mangal.

We have been going to the Mangal since it first opened and absolutely loved it but recently the quality of food has gone downhill sadly and this year they have hiked up their prices significantly. It is now no longer the good value quality meal out it used to be. Such a shame

Emminently edible, massive portions. Good value so if you good food and not too expensive then I highly recommend. If you don't need such large portions and want something more refined then there are places that do it better (Kuzzu in Aylesbury for example).

The village Mangal is a really great place to eat. The food is cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely and the venue is really great. Easy to get to as Amersham is the last stop on the Met line tube. I highly recommend this restaurant. I’ve eaten there a few times over the past couple of years. They are consistently good.

Visited on a Saturday night and was able to get a late table which suited us. The good was very good and fresh, vegan options available, falafel were delicious.

I live in the US and travel to the UK at least 4 times a year. Up until this year I always visited the VM with a group of friends when I had the opportunity. The last 2 times we went there the food had taken a drastic downhill turn while the prices increased 30-40%. I always got the lamb ribs or lamb chops that were always tender and cooked to perfection. The last 2 times the chops were as tough as old nails and 40% more expensive. I believe they have a new chef, it seems that he or she needs some more training . Needless to say our group will not be returning any time soon until things hopefully will improve. I truly feel very sad as I was one of the first customers of this restaurant when it opened in 2012. I recommended it to everyone, as it truly was a gem. Not so anymore.....very, very sad.

As someone who is gluten free I worry about eating out having been visiting friends they brought us to village manual I can honestly say they provided me with the best experience I was give a separate crudités without requesting it and the options were amazing more Flo about in food than I have had in years thank you would highly recommend can not wait to return ;-) x

We discovered last year when in the area and we happened to be in Amersham this week and was first choice to go back. It had been done up since we last went and the food was just as good. We had a shish lamb and chicken which came with salad and rice and was very tasty. It cost about £30 for the 2 of us for main and drink. Would def recommend!

The meat is cooked to perfection, the interior is designed so you are transported to Turkey for an authentic feel eating authentic Turkish food. Would recommend to anyone!!! Even good vegetarian options!

I visited here with my 2 brothers. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food arrived quickly and was very tasty. It's very well priced.

Haven't been here since it was refurbished a year ago, still as good - maybe even better! Food tasty and staff very good. The head man was well on top of things. Will return with a load of blokes soon.

So impressed were the 35 chaps who went to Village Mangal for a men's night out, I felt I had to write a genuine thank you to Village Mangal for the wonderful way all its staff so professionally looked after every one of the 35 of us of that came from Kings Church Amersham for a meal at Village Mangal on Monday 21st October 2019. The presentation and quality and quantity of the food served was frankly sensational. This combined with the friendly and efficient service, made the whole meal thoroughly enjoyable, particularly as so many of us had never been before. Village Mangal certainly put on a tremendous show and I'm sure have won many new repeat customers as a result.

I went here for a kebab on the off chance as everywhere else was shut. Very friendly staff greeted me, gave me black tea while I waited. Although I didn't eat in the restaurant area looked very clean and tidy. I purchased a Lamb Shish Kebab and my friend a chicken Kebab that were both excellent. Although it will be slightly more expensive than the run of the mill places, the portions, quality and overall taste is one of the best I have tried. My lamb Shish was laid on a bed of rice in one foil box, salad in another foil box, a salsa type salad in another box and a small pot of chilli suce and garlic mayo in another pot. Very impressed over all and I will definitely visit again.

Was taken here by my cousin and his wife....and they had said that it was really good. The atmosphere and the food did not disappoint. We had the Village Mangal mixed grill dish and it was a very generous portion indeed.

We first visited Village Mangal in December 2017 and arrived at about 6pm with no booking and were seated immediately. The waiter was friendly, food tasty and we really enjoyed our meal of sea bass and starters to share. I left happy enough to make this the restaurant of my choice for my birthday in February 2018 and booked.

We were really impressed with everything. Salads so fresh and chicken / lamb shish was so moist. Staff very smiley and helpful - the place had a good feel about it.....can’t wait to go again.

Heard a lot about this restaurant and food wise it definitely lived up to its reputation beautifully cooked food packed full of taste loved it.

Love this place. I mostly have takeaway from here as always cooked beautifully. Always fresh too. And omg loads!

All the meat is tender and smooth and the salad is perfectly balanced . When we went we had the time of our life all the food was amazing and had beautiful flavour .

I came to dinner with my parents on Sunday evening, and there was really amazing food and amazing service. it was the first time. And thanks again to the bearded young man because he served us really well.

Friendly staff but food was very disappointing. Very little flavour- calamari tasted like frozen ones and the main was a sloppy mess. There was no flavour and the the bed of aubergine mash was tasteless and bland. Just not an enjoyable meal and spoilt our evening. Shame as it has been recommended.

If you’re looking for a great Turkish restaurant look no further..The staff are friendly, professional and attentive. From the moment you sit down you soon realise this is a very popular spot.From starter to desert the food is delicious. Bread,dips,grill ,you won’t go home disappointed. pre booking is advisable and catering for large groups/ families seems to be no problem.Village Mangal just seems to be a few points ahead of its competitors and it shows with the food and atmosphere.

Three of us had an early meal this evening. Two meals were good however my Iskender chicken meal arrived with lamb koftas instead of chicken. I queried it and was assured it was minced chicken. I asked again and the meal was taken to the cooks who again assured me it was chicken. It clearly wasn't! Eventually after l had eaten three quarters of it some chicken was placed beside me and a waiter admitted it wasn't chicken. I am very annoyed at the unnecessary deception and will think twice before returning.

I ordered the mixed grill as usual and my wife ordered the lahmajun. Really nice inside the restaurant, with beautiful Turkish lamps.

This place was packed on the weeknight we went and had a fun atmosphere, warm and noisy, with many large parties. The food was good and came quickly - service was brisk but friendly and the beer was cold. We over-ordered when we took 3 starters for 3 people, and then couldn't really do justice to our main courses, so be careful as the portions are large. The main courses were more delicious than the starters, but it all tasted good and fresh. The staff offered take-away boxes, which I thought was a nice touch. We did feel a bit rushed, though. I would go again but I would not describe it as a place to linger.

Visited on the bank holiday weekend after being recommended this place by several people. The hot meze starter was just a beige greasy mess. The mixed kebab main was also remarkably tasteless. We also spent a lot of time waiting after we had finished for the food to be collected. Would not go back to this place in a hurry!

This restaurant never fails to send out fabulous tasty authentic Turkish food, love the complimentary breads & dips while you are choosing you meal. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic food and good value. The ambioence was also great. It was early evening but already buzzing. We did feel we were managed out in a very short space of time though to free up the table for someone else

The service left a lot to be desired: the table 'reserved' for us was for a smaller group although they were told specifically that there would be 6 Adults, 2 children and a baby. The starters were good and the main mixed platter was okay but took a while to get to our table. To make matters worse the waiter wasn't properly trained ( to my mind) when food was being served above our heads and in all sorts of directions.

If you love meat then this is the place for you, lovely lamb kebabs, kitchen was pretty good too, booking ahead is essential as they are pretty busy, but well worth it.

Go to Amersham and have the best Turkish meal you can experience this side of Turkey. Fantastic surroundings, table service and portion sizes that you will not see anywhere around here - it's got a solid following of repeat customers for a reason.

Interesting menu, very nicely cooked and well presented food, good service, pleasant atmosphere, nice toilets, open all afternoon on Sunday so great for a late lunch, fair pricing - we like this place!

A meal on a Saturday night with friends, restaurant was packed with families, couples and had a great atmosphere. Not the prettiest restaurant but did not detract from the food and service. We were given warm flatbreads, yoghurt and chilli dips and a fabulous spiced roasted onion side to enjoy free, they were on every table. Huge menu with loads of choice all served with rice and salads. I enjoyed lamb shish and kofte, super tasty! Many of our table had the special; chicken wings, kofte, shish, lamb ribs and chops, it was a huge amount of meat! All was tender and full of charcoal grill flavours. Turkish coffee in pretty silver cups to finish. Service was great with waiters ready whenever needed. Menu was excellent value for money and was a great night out, will def be returning!

We booked a table because of it being Saturday night and good job we did because it was extremely busy. I thought we would be in for a long wait because it was extremely busy but i was impressed how many staff they had waitressing and how quickly our starters and mains came out. I had one of the vegetarian pide's which came with salad it was really lovely even the salad was lovely. Portion sizes are very generous too. It's very lovely inside, lots of pretty Turkish lamps and lovely pictures on the wall. The partner enjoyed his Lamb and chicken shish kebab he said it's a proper kebab not crap like those takeaway ones. I can't fault this lovely restaurant.

Absolutely blinding food. Value for money. Had the village Mangal special and would recommend the sharer if two of you want it. Don't like sharing my food (Joey from friends, so ordered the individual) Could not finish it but the food for the price was absolutely spot on! 10/10, will definitely come again!

Stopped here to have lunch with a friend during our visit to Amersham last Saturday. It felt very warm when we walked in but they were happy to turn the heating down. We had Lahmacun (Turkish pizzas) which were delicious. The complimentary bread and dips went down a treat. Good service and lovely decor. Recommended.
