Our opinion is this is the best place to buy fish and chips ,freshly cooked ,always hot and a very good friendly service .Delicious ,we haven't found anywhere better

£11 for large cod, small chips. Plenty for two! Came wrapped in newspaper, not plastic and so stayed crisp until opened. Cod vg, chips made godd butty.

We had two cod and chips on Saturday lunch time (18 th Nov). Couldn't ask for better quality and excellent service. They say that the "youth of today" don't know how to behave or be polite. The young staff at work then certainly showed that they could be polite and thankful that they'd got a good Saturday job. The meal was very good. The front service area was kept clean and tidy. If holidaying in the area again I'd certainly go again and be happy to recommend.

Good quality and portions at good prices but difficult local parking

I've visited the Village Fish Bar quite often, for a number of years. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent - and fairly priced. I can certainly recommend it.

Warning ! This is the BEST fish and chips so there can be a very long queue on a Friday but it is SO worth it. It says just how good the food is because we drive 13 miles to go there ! Very generous portions all freshly cooked and red hot ! NEVER had an overcooked or bad meal from the Village Fish Bar and all the staff are so friendly. Yes we have loads of fish and chip shops closer but we don't bother with them as none of them can match the Village !

Always one of the best fish and chips we have. Easily the best I've had in the area and easily beats some of the "Best fish and chips" in other parts of the country. Always come back here knowing we'll get a good meal.

An amazing chippy. Food quality is excellent, it isn’t expensive and once you order, your food is going to be ready in good time. I would recommend this to anyone who wants good fish and chips in Gosport. Only downside is, sometimes they get long cues and they aren’t open Mondays or Tuesdays.

Chips were great (I love the scrappy bits and ends) if you don’t then you wouldn’t agree. I had a savaloy it was tough and very rubbery this did let it down hence the rating. We have been here a few times and it can be hit and miss. Will try again

Probably the best fish and chips in the world! (Really!) Wow ............ Just WOW Best fish and chips ever I can't tell you just how good this place is, but I'll try Nicest, freshest piece of cod I've ever eaten, and lovely batter Great chips and a very generous portion Perfect pea fritter AND, it's very reasonably priced I was offered, and accepted, a slice of lemon with my fish (Never been offered that in a takeaway before, nice!) I don't think they could do anything any better, I really don't This amazing chippy is ten miles from where I live, ( there are many that are nearer,) and I will definitely be going back Don't take my word for it, try them yourself, I promise you won't regret it The only possible negative is that I've heard there can be a queue at busy times But that is the best sign that they're good, right? Not as good as I remember fish was soso a bit dry and the chip were all bitty will give it a miss for sometime now very disappointed

The fish and chips are excellent as are the people serving very pleasant my only issue us the using of old newspapers for extra wrapping as you do not know how hygienic these papers are especially with covid around but as I said the food us really good

Lovely, friendly and helpful staff and delicious food 😋 Also a very reasonable price. £8 something for 2 of us who were very satisfied. Probably the best curry sauce I've ever had from a chippy (honestly, it was insanely good 😂) Would definitely recommend a visit. We took ours down to Stokes Bay to eat by the sea. Lovely!

We live in the village and look forward to our favourite takeaway, The food is absolutely lovely, keep up the good work guys brilliant service.

Hit and miss when it's good is the best ever, otherwise it's okay. It is permanently busy which is a good sign of good food.

Great fish and chips, plus mushy peas. Fish was very fresh and large cod was twice the size of what I ate elsewhere. Chips were well cooked and not at all greasy.

Establishment refused me service for not wearing a face mask on the 16th April 2022. All pandemic restrictions ended on 27th January 2022. This business is now flagrantly discriminating against the public, enforcing their own rules with zero laws. Trip Advisor reviews show they have also been discriminating against individuals exempt from face masks under the equalities act. Morally I cannot recommend this place to anyone. For those that sleep walk along with it, are you really just happy to give up your freedoms and self worth for some fish and chips? What have we become?!

We came today and I can say we're weren't impressed with our food nothing was cooked to order only a burger which we ordered the chips were old too. Felt very let down as this used to be the best chip shop around .

Finally back on a long overdue visit....(Friday 11 March 2022)....it was a "No Brainer"....It HAD to be Fish and Chips from Alverstoke Village for Supper! Perfectly cooked Fish in Crisp Batter, not a soggy chip to be found either! MORE THAN WORTH THE QUEUE OUTSIDE!! (The shop is TINY, immaculately kept and Staff friendly and efficient) DELICIOUS!! THANK YOU!!

Best Chippy i’ve ever been to - the fish and chips are unrivalled. Plus they keep the community, customers and staff safe by requiring all customers to wear a mask and sanitise hands. Makes me feel safe when I want my favourite takeaway.

Absolutely disgusted by the discriminatory behaviour and absolute disregard for people with disabilities. I can accept you have an issue with covid but to outwardly refuse entry and service when someone has a protected disability under the equalities act 2010. You were all masked up so it should not be a problem. Disgusting!!

This place actively discriminate against anybody with a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a face mask. And are therefore in breach of the Equalities Act. I would them zero star if I could. Avoid.

Great fish and chips and only a 5 minute walk away from Stokes bay. Eating fish and chips by the sea is one of life's better moments. This place does the makes it even more special. Good service, tasty food and decent portions make it our go to place

Awful food. Order you around, wear mask or buy one for 50p to enter, sanitize your hands now, believe there some kind of local authoritarians. Government guidelines say you don't have to wear a mask at present. Avoid Avoid!

Really happy, the chap went out of his way to help with making something for my fussy little girl, came home and she ate loads, couple of leftovers but nothing compared to usual!! Big portions, fresh and lovely service. Thankyou very much, you made tea time a little easier tonight!!

Lovely fish and chips. The wait is rather long on a Friday. I ordered mine on the phone, but still had to wait in the queue for 30 mind and then my order was put together when I got in there

Huge queues on a Friday evening but well worth the wait. The curry sauce was amazing and the fish was so delicate and light.

We have been going to the village fish bar for 3-4 years. It’s one of the best fish and chip shops we know and we regularly drive for an hour or so to work it into a day out. However I’m sad to say it’s incredibly unlikely we will return after my wife was treated quite abysmally there today. My wife has moderate to severe asthma. She is unequivocally exempt from wearing a face mask, and this has been accepted and accommodated respectfully by every business she has interacted with over the last year.Every business other than the Village Fish Bar that is. On explaining her position in a calm and respectful way on arrival to order to some food she was harangued and bullied into wearing a face mask or was otherwise faced with being refused service, which upset her hugely. It’s extraordinary that a business feels it can conduct itself in this way in apparent breach of Equalities legislation and I am posting this review so that others will consider whether they want to frequent such a place.

The best vegetarian burger I've ever had, I get it with the salad and it always comes packed with it and it's so fresh(and the chips are nice too). Since trying the burger this is the only place I want to go to now. I hope that we can come here every weekend 😂 my partner and the kids always like what they get too.

Had haddock tails an chips. Both were very nice. The chip shop is in the prettiest part of the village where streets are narrow. You may have to park a little way from shop.

Very rude and horrible people would not accept me in the shop as I am unable to put a face mask on due to having only 1 lung and my breathing cant cope with it plus I have x2 covid tests every week .. I'm disgusted

AVOID this fish bar this is the worse one around here do not use this I wouldn't even give it 1 star more like 0 stars ...

Had cod and chips. Chips were lukewarm but otherwise good. Fish was barely warm, and had obviously been cooked and standing for a while waiting for a customer. Fish taste was good but spoilt by it being almost cold. Very disappointing

Arrived at 6.45pm and stood in a queue of around 12. 20 minutes later it was my turn to enter the shop. Hands sanitised on entry, I ordered 2 cod and chips. Staff were amazingly polite during this very busy period. Food served, I was out and back in the car. Stokes Bay carpark was the choice for our table. Opening the delicious smelling paper to find a beautiful piece of cod, with a wedge of lemon glistening at me. Chips were lovely and hot, with just enough salt and vinegar. Couldn't manage to eat it all, certainly wanted to. Definitely worth the wait. 5☆

Amazing fish & chips, even better when eaten on the beach!

It's a small place and from the outside, unpretentious. There were four staff preparing and serving. Even though there was a build up of people in queue in the street outside, service was quietly efficient and prompt. Parking on Little Lane is a little limited, as the name suggests. Streets around have double yellow markings and so access by car is tight, considering also that Alverstoke is after all a small village. The cod was cooked to perfection. it was prepared freshly while you wait outside for four minutes. The batter was dairy-free. The chips were a tad olease. Would it have been better if it were twice fried? That would place them head and shoulders above other purveyors of this classic English fare. Just a thought... That would be an attempt to make the best become better!
