Valentino's in Isle of Wight

We went to Valentino’s as a table of 5 for my son’s 10th birthday. We had such a lovely meal, amazing choice (you must try the flambé prawns cooked at your table), the staff were amazing and the maitre d was beyond welcoming!!!!! Really a first class dining experience!!!! Many places you go to eat nowadays you are treated like a number but at Valentino’s you are treated like family!!!

Really enjoyable meal on Saturday night. Just as I remembered it, I've been going there since I was a child but hadn't been for a couple of years. Good service from Donna and the two waitresses who served us, all the food was very tasty and we had a lovely time. Not rushed, attentive without being intrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I know it's a bit dated, but honestly that's strangely comforting. Definitely recommend it if you enjoy Italian food.

Really loved the atmosphere of this place, you can tell it's been many things in its long history and it's now a lovely Italian restaurant, cosy, intimate, and the food portions, very generous. The pasta dish was excellent with the mussels, the pizza fairy average, quite doughy and bland, the desserts were incredible. All round nice place to spend an evening

Fabulous Christmas meal. Salmon thermidor to die for as were the delicious homemade desserts. Wonderful service. I would 100% recommend and will return!

Family run, Very friendly, the place was very busy but the service was still great. Food fantastic as always, we had a wonderful evening.

We had a meal at Valentino's a few days ago. it's a local restaurant we've always been fond of. I was horrified how poor the food was and how abrupt the head staff member was. My auntie was celebrating her birthday and we were put in the back room up stairs, there was no banister and she fell badly up the steps. No staff member came to see if she was alright and when we asked to move there was no empathy or apology. The vegan dishes were really bland, pizza dry, pork Soo chewy, the vegetables accompanying the main were just boiled English veg, certainly nothing special, no seasoning or butter. No one came to ask how the meal was, didn't get asked if we needed more drinks. Everything seemed like a chore for the staff, even bringing out the birthday cake and itemising the bill. I went home disappointed feeling like I had been robbed by such an overpriced meal of such badly cooked food and unfriendly staff.

First class nice to have vegetables served with the meal, a good bottle of wine reasonably priced excellent service will be returning. It’s a welcome change from going to a pub and seeing the same old dishes such as burgers pizzas and microwaved pie of the day

As usual we had a fantastic meal. I had tagliatelle with smoked salmon. Highly recommended. Also highly recommended are the sweets. I had tiramisu but try any of them. You will not be disappointed.

We went in last Saturday night with my mum who was visiting. I can't believe I've lived 20 minutes walk away for the past couple of years and missed out ! The staff were very welcoming and service was exemplary. We had starters, main course and dessert, and I could not fault anything. The portion sizes are generous, and good value for money. The decor is homely and the food genuine and fabulous. Definitely one of the best restaurants I've been in for a long while, and a stark contrast to big business chains. I would recommend to anyone who wants a great meal either for an intimate meals for two or a celebration.

Absolutely fantastic Itailian food. Very tasty. I have a very small appetite, but for the first time in my life, I ate three courses. The price was very reasonable. Great and very friendly service. I would 100% recommend this restaurant.

Valentinos is the go-to restaurant in Carisbrooke for a reason - the menu is consistently good from basic pasta to extravagant chateaubriand and all points in between. Service is prompt and friendly. The decor hasn't been upgraded in a long time, which might put off a first timer, but once you're settled in you won't notice.

Fantastic meals, enjoyed by all ten of us

Absolutely excellent. Great service, friendly efficient staff. Steak with Stilton and port was fabulous. Nice selection of vegetables accompanied it. He had tornados Rossini…..that was excellent too. Dessert nice. Now in my top 3 is restaurants on the island. Will certainly be going back.

Really tasty, First time trying snails and pleasantly surprised by them, really enjoyed my time here, however, the generic Italian "style" CD got a bit repetitive 😂 Overall, brilliant experience.

Came here 16yrs ago. Then we saw TV show about isla of Wight then booked a holiday here. Went back here it's fantastic you must visit 😊

Had a fabulous time here with a group of 13 friends for a birthday meal. The food was delicious. Lots of choice. Staff are attentive and friendly and also gorgeous cocktails.

first of all the decor was outdated must of been atleast 40 years old the pasta was dry and the mince were soggy and tasted bland the worst on carisbrooke high strret if u want to get something to eat in carisbrooke avoid at all costs

A comfortable restaurant with a family vibe, friendly atmosphere with enough space between tables for intimacy. All the staff are very friendly and attentive but allowing a relaxed pace, you never feel you've outstayed your welcome. Menu is varied with plenty of delicious sounding options. We both had steak which was cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth. A perfect evening in a traditional restaurant.

Great Italian restaurant, not that expensive, they let us swap items on the Christmas menu. Will go back again.

Had a lovely meal in a relaxed friendly setting, staff all great and at a very reasonable price. Just don't know why I've left it so long since last going.

We had heard of this place through friends, so thought we would give it ago. I am so pleased we did, this place is homely, staff are friendly and the meals are delicious, huge portions! which was a very nice treat compared to most places, with there tiny portions that are over priced, I would highly recommend this place.

Oh dear, such nice staff and good service but the food was really poor. Maybe we chose badly but it all reminded me of a three star hotel in the 70s. We had the £22 set three course menu, good price for three courses. We both started with a mushroom and asparagus fusilli dish. Sauce honestly tasted like a cheap dried packet mix, almost pot noodle like. The Parmesan was absolutely tasteless and I quite like the stuff you get in a cardboard tube. For mains I had a pork dish served in exactly the same mushroom sauce the pasta had been served in and husband had a spinach roulade. Pork overcooked and dry, roulade bland and almost unpleasant. Nice veggies and salad. Finally we both had ‘homemade’ creme brûlée, it was ok, but I’m almost sure it was a packet mix. Sorry. Loved the doilies though.

Pleasant place and excellent value.

Easy to book, lovely decoration and atmosphere. Very welcoming restaurant. Good choice on the menu, which also caters for a family member who is gluten free. I’m a bit fussy with what I like and this restaurant always makes me a tailor-made meal which I absolutely love. The food is so tasty - our family love it here, especially for a special occasion.

Valentino's, an Italian eatery in Newport. We were guests on a Friday evening. I ordered Pizza Napoli (I love a well-made pizza) and a beef steak with pepper sauce, potatoes and vegetables. My pizza was a disappointment. Neutral in taste, bland with boring cheese that masked everything. The pizza base is comparable to a ready-made pizza from the freezer. But because the steak was good, medium fried as ordered, and the side dishes were presented appetizingly, I give it 4 points. A rather average restaurant. It should be mentioned that the service was friendly, always asking questions, and the place was clean.

The food is amazing, great range with large portions, real value for money. Reminded me of being back in Italy! The service was incredible, everyone was friendly but not overly so. Felt so comfortable. The dessert was incredible! Decor is cosy and homely. If you're expecting a minimalist chain-style restaurant this is not the place for you.

Last night and fancied an Italian, We’ll when we arrived in the beautiful town the restaurant looked a little dated inside, but it was just perfect with the music it was like being in Italy, The food was amazing 3 course £22 and each one was just superb, Then with that we had cocktails 2 for £13 which were delicious, But to top off the night the lady owner was the most polite, kind warm welcoming person ever just a perfect end to our holiday, we will return xX

Valentino’s offers a warm & friendly atmosphere with great homemade Italian food. We’ve been coming here for years, the service & food never let you down & always served with a smile. The rather dated decor which a few reviews mention is part of its unique charm, we like it! Post covid is a blessing to have a menu with such great choice. Carisbrooke is fortunate to have a little piece of Italy in its midst Thank you Pietro, Donna & family

There is nothing "authentic" or "homemade" about this restaurant. Food is bland, not properly seasoned and very evidently just microwaved rather than cooked in the restaurant. I would have got cheaper and better quality food at the supermarket. Avoid unless you have absolutely no choice !!!!!! The food is nothing like the other ratings claim. Highly doubt they have a proper chef....forget about an ITALIAN chef.

It was absolutely fabulous we had chateaubriand and it was so tender a really good night with plenty of food

Great old fashioned service brilliant food

Food was tasty & good portion size. All 5 of us enjoyed our dinners & deserts. Seems very popular so will need to book. Only criticism is that it was a bit like walking into a time warp with decoration, music etc.

Great food and staff. The best idea is to go with the set menu. Unfortunately they could do with a slightly bigger selection from that menu.

Visited October 2021 but Google would not let me review at the time. Me and my partner were on the Isle of Wight for a few days and after looking at the favourable Google reviews decided to give this place a try. The fact I have repeatedly checked back since October to see if I could leave a review yet should give you an insight into how much I needed to leave this feedback. Firstly, the decor is really dated but that isn’t really an issue, could just do with an update as it feels a bit tired. Other than that it does feel quite homely. The 1 star is for our waitress, who was very friendly and quick, couldn’t fault them at all. Served us everything with a smile. What was awful was the food. I don’t understand how it was so bad when there are so many reviews saying it’s great with pictures of good food, ours was dreadful. I ordered the lasagne and it was a slab of unseasoned, bland, stodgy microwaved lasagne. My partner ordered carbonara and it didn’t have any sauce on, it was just wet spaghetti swimming in water, if it was a “sauce” it was the thinnest sauce in the world. Again, bland. The worst thing was the dishes were around £14. I’ve had better microwaved lasagnes from supermarkets. We didn’t complain at the time because honestly we were just a bit baffled by the whole thing and wanted to leave. There are other 1/2 reviews on here saying the same as me, I don’t understand the good reviews because it was shocking. We went on a Thursday night and it was pretty dead, so do they just not have an actual chef in on Thursdays hence the microwaved food? I don’t get it. Feel a bit bad leaving this review as I never ever leave bad reviews but I had to.

Last minute booking , accommodated us with no problem. Service as with the food was excellent.

I went with friends...lovely cosey atmosphere...food was great...ordered a Calzone pizza, which wasn't on the menu and it wasn't a problem making it for me...also asked for a starter that wasn't on the main menu, but on the set menu, no problem either...great service... friendly staff...an all round great experience...thank you for a lovely evening

What an amazing meal, served with great friendliness and professionalism.

It's difficult to get a table at the better rated restaurants and pubs in the Isle of Wight at the moment so Sally and me were pleased to get an early slot at 6.30pm today. We arrived to find the tables mostly filled already but our table was waiting for us. The Italian food menu was varied and enticing but we fancied a steak and went for châteaubriand. I can tell you it was an absolute treat with the steak cooked just perfectly and a good selection of fresh vegetables on the side. With some good house red, what more could you ask?

I have been here many times and have always found the staff friendly, the service good and the food high quality. The prices are very reasonable and the menu is varied. Although this is an Italian restaurant the menu has English translations. Children are welcome and are catered for. I would recommend a visit.

Our favourite restaurant on the island by far. It's been owned by the same italian family for as long as I can remember. The food is superb, atmosphere is so warm and welcoming and we absolutely love the place. Carisbrooke's very own piece of Italy - right on your doorstep!!

Wonderful food. The staff were absolutely lovely and literally made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. If we return to the IofW, this would be on our list of places to return to.

Good atmosphere, well staffed and attentive, fabulous spaghetti pescatore.

Not very busy but took almost an hour for starters to arrive. Food was not seasoned well and did not come across with Italian flavours. Menu prices too high for the quality of taste.

Food was good but the service was very slow. When we got on our table, the waiter who placed our plates and utensils seem very unhappy. He threw the utensils on the table, then instead of holding the end of the fork/spoon where you usually hold them, he held them on the other end that goes to your mouth with his bare hands.

Fantastic as always, we always come here for date night when on the island, see you again soon :)

Fantastic friendly service with the most amazing traditional Italian dishes, served in a relaxed family atmosphere.

As with the last lockdown we ordered and collected a takeaway from Valentino's last night as a Saturday night treat, we weren't disappointed. The pastas we ordered arrived piping hot and exactly as we had eaten them in the restaurant. They were portions suitable for healthy appetites. The portion of tiramisu was also the same as the yummy ones we'd eaten it in the restaurant and a large portion to share. very good value for money.

Friendly staff and good service food great

In the past 10 years I've been quite a few times (my parents local) and I've always had a fantastic meal. The staff are always welcoming and lovely too.

We went for the set three course menu, expecting portions to be suitable for a three course meal, and were surprised to be asked whether we wanted salad or vegetables with our pasta mains. That was something we have not been asked before with pasta! We both plumped for vegetables, expecting that maybe the pasta portions might be a bit on the small side. We also decided to order a portion of garlic bread with our mains.I had vegetable soup for starters whilst my wife had Funghi en Croute. This was very tasty as I found out when I helped her to finish it. When the mains arrived they were both full-sized. But then came this huge bowl of vegetables - broccoli, cauli, carrots, leeks, and roast potatoes. It looked overwhelming and, try as we could, we must have left about three-quarters of it. After all, we had to leave space for the desserts! Was it a mistake, and there was confusion between the servers and the kitchen staff? Either way, I know this might sound ungrateful but, being presented with amounts so huge that you couldn't possible finish them, is a bit off-putting, especially if you hate to waste food. The quality of the food itself was fine, but I think that, on a future visit, we would query the portion size when ordering and we nave never had to do that before!

My friend and I ate here on the last night of our short holiday to the Isle of Wight. Unfortunately, we were both disappointed with our main courses. I chose veal with Parma ham in a creamy mushroom sauce. The veal was not as tender as it could have been, although the sauce was good. It was served with saute potatoes and a selection of vegetables. I had no complaints with the potatoes, but the vegetables were nearly cold. When I told the staff about this, they gave me a fresh dish. My friend chose seabass cooked in a foil parcel with citrus fruit. She found it bland. For dessert I ordered Tiramisu, which was lovely. My friend chose Italian Trifle. Her only comment was that the fruit in it was tinned. When we got the bill, they knocked £10 off to compensate for the veal, which I was pleased about. Another disappointment was the complete lack of atmosphere, although that probably had something to do with the social distancing restrictions, and the fact that we were sat in a raised area with no other diners in view.

A brilliant wedding celebration at this family favourite Italian restaurant. Lovely meals and great, friendly, personal service. Strict adherence to Covid regulations. Not surprised the restaurant was full.

This a quite small but attractive Italian restaurant that has great service and serves really lovely food. It is perhaps a tad too expensive but worth it knowing that what you get is well cooked and of first class quality. Make the effort dont miss it

Simply fantastic food and service. Authentic atmosphere and extremely welcoming, friendly staff. Highly recommend this place, easily the best food we’ve had since visiting the IOW. The seafood pasta was an absolute delight and the Tiramisu was to die for. A must for anyone visiting the Newport area!
