Valans in Carmarthenshire

I took advantage of this opportunity to collect a meal for two - simply re-heat (the instructions on each dish were clear and extensive) the prepared foodThe starters, mains and desert were excellent. One the best restaurant meals I (and my partner) have eaten in a long long time!!The menu was extensive (another vegetarian option for next time would be good) and we were very happy with our choices We can’t wait to order again!!

We had a lovely Sunday lunch yesterday from Valans. With the lockdown, they deliver within a radius or you can collect. Well we are outside the area ,so it was no problem to collect. We had a soup and prawn cocktail to start followed by roast beef and turkey with all the veg. and trimmings with a crumble and bread and butter to finish. It was piping hot when we arrived home,and didn't need retreating. What a treat it was, The occasion was to celebrate our anniversary, but we won't need an excuse to go back and that will be soon. We have regularly visited the restaurant and always had delicious meals so we look forward to them openng again.

We have just eaten a most satisfying Sunday Lunch, delivered to our door during the Covid-19 Lockdown. A traditional Roast Beef Sunday Lunch, with all the trimmings followed by Bread and Butter Pudding with custard. What a beautiful meal! The roast beef was perfect, with plenty of gravy, a Yorkshire Pudding, boiled potatoes and roasted potatoes, roasted parsnips, broccoli, peas and carrots - with plenty of gravy.The Bread and butter pudding with custard brought to an end a truly wonderful meal. What was especially nice was that this was delivered to our door at exactly the time specified and proved a wonderful experience after many weeks of staying at home. Our sincerest thanks to the Valans Restaurant for their excellent service and much appreciated meals. We would most certainly wish to repeat this experience.David and Joy Jones

we we're on holiday in ammanford sth Wales a very little place, for sunday dinner we went to Llandybie just across from co-op is a fantastic restaurant called Valans we had the sun lunch menu wow 3 of us 3 course meal we took sweet's back to base meal's only £20. each less course's less money, well worth every penny & staff (the owner's) can't do enough please give it a go

This place has potential but the basics are just not right .The service is basic ,the boy never smiles,he's not impolite but personality isn't his strong point .The menu choice is good but changes rarely. The chef has no clue how to season food which is poor .Playing is good ,food looks good and the quality is there ,just no taste ,thin sauces not reduced properly and I've got to say it again ....no seasoning,poor taste ,had to go get salt and try to get some taste back

Have been to valans numerous times and have always had lovely service and nice food. My only comment would be lack of seasoning on the meat. The desserts are lovely here highly recommended.

This wasn't my first dining experience at Valans and it never disappoints, but this latest meal on 3rd March was exceptional. I can highly recommend the rhubarb ice cream which was delicious, and will definitely be coming again.

What a find this was! Great decor, service and ambience... as for the menu we wanted to eat every main course on it and it was the little touches like the pre-starter that really impressed. The scallops were worth the dinner cost on their own. One for future visits methinks...

1st visit having been recommended by many friends. Found one of the most delicious menus I’ve ever encountered. When you are torn as to what to choose on Starter & Main you know you’ve hit the jackpot. Lovely 2-4-1cocktails too which is very seldom seen in fine dining establishments. There are lots of choices on value deals. The most expensive 3 course is £32 for a la carte.Valans take Amex which is always a bonus for air miles and discounted meal too!Remy front of house and her husband David in the kitchen have created an oasis of delight in Llandybie.Will most definitely return.

i visited Valans twice in one week for a lunch with ex colleagues and then annual Christmas dinner . On both occasions I was not disappointed - excellent food , great service , friendly staff

We had a wonderful evening at Valan's quiz night, the second one we've been to. A really well organised evening, with lovely food and a great atmosphere.

A little gem of a restaurant that you could easily miss.Unassuming frontage but a really warm welcome & excellent service.The food is special & the prices don't break the bank. There are specials & value menus as well as the normal menu.Have booked again for our family xmas social.Highly recommended.

Just had Sunday lunch at Valans it was beautiful, tasty, hot and delicious,we gave it a 10 out of 10, also the Tiramisu was to die for didn't have Tiramisu like that on a recent holiday to Italy.

Once again another excellent lunch from an interesting menu which was beautifully prepared and delivered. Very few places deliver the "goods" each and every time, consistantly high standards, good service, free smiles and acceptable prices. Looking forward to next time!

Totally unpretentious and yet the food would rival that of any restaurant in the West End of London - quite outstanding.

We usually visit Valans when staying with friends who live locally, Standards remain good, there is nothing pretentious about the food and service, but it is nicely presented, and the service is always friendly and efficient. Maybe not the widest a la carte choice but what they do offer is excellent including the 'specials' which may be down to a price but are good value.

We had a fantastic meal here, everything is prepared in-house and the quality is excellent, a real treat to eat food so obviously created by a chef with passion and talent! Highly recommended!!!

This was a return visit to Valans, and it's as good as I remembered. The menu was well-chosen and prepared and presented to a high standard. Not surprisingly, the restaurant was busy - it's a very welcoming space. I was delighted to discover that a gluten-free menu is offered - dishes from the main menu are slightly adapted to make them GF friendly. This is a great place to eat!

First visit to Valans restaurant last night and can say we were all blown away with the ambience, friendliness and most of all the food. I had 6 hour slow cooker beef with pepper sauce, veg and chips followed by the legendary tiramisu. Delicious 😋

Having moved to the area a few months ago we had been recommended to try Valans and were very pleased we finally got round to booking for dinner.

Restaurant a little quiet today due to the warm weather, but the quality of the food is always good, with the supporting staff adding to the experience. A comprehensive specials menu, as well as the main restaurant menu is always available. Have no fear quality food and service is always guaranteed. Total bill for two including drinks and coffee was £62. Smiles free!!

In an unassuming Welsh village, in an unassuming building with unassuming decor, the food here is truly wonderful. Worth tracking it down. (Just remember to enter through the side.) Go for all three courses (but don't have the coffee though).

Had a lovely meal with my daughter. We try to get together approximately every 6 weeks for lunch, and will be coming again in July or August. The service was very good and nothing was to much trouble for the waitress. I can also highly recommend the non alcoholic cocktail.

Why I have never visited this restaurant before baffles me. Close to home & an absolute gem. Nicely set up, could be mistaken for a cafe. Warm welcome, really good service & fantastic food. Prices won't break the bank, options to suit most pockets. My first visit but not the last.

Visited whilst staying in the area for the weekend. Had 3 courses each, we weren’t going to but the first two courses were so good we couldn’t resist

As per usual, we could not fault the meal. The menu is small but varied for all courses supplemented by an interesting specials board; he/she would be "poor of soul" who could not find a suitable choice. The atmosphere can be quite intimate even when all tables are full, and the staff maintain a very approachable and amiable manner whilst never compromising on professionalism. Well done once again.

We and a few friends went for Easter Sunday lunch. The food, service and ambience were superb as usual. The mackerel paté was superb, and the turkey dinner was perfect. Try the tiramisu with coffee ice cream, it's out of this world.

Food and service were very good I had the steak, didn’t need the steak knife it was like cutting through butter. Can’t fault anything and the tiramisu was to die for!

The food was excellent as well as the service. We both had a enjoyable lunch and hope to visit in the near future. The cleanliness was first rate both in the restaurant and the ladies. This small room deserves a mention and is the best one I have ever visited.

We are local to this wonderful venue and don't visit anywhere near as often as we'd like to.

Quite disappointed as the menu has not changed much in 12 months. The food was not very enthused. Firstly Val and homemade bread with oil and balsamic vinegar which was very nice then the starters came, soup of the day was unseasoned and tasteless. My partner chose the Scallops ( £4 surcharge ) which were OK but that's all. I ordered the 6 hour cooked beef cooked in a peppercorn sauce which was so dry and very difficult to digest. Hubby chose the Duck Cassoulet where the Cassolet was very tasty but only 1 very thin slice of Toulouse sausage in it and the Duck breast was overcooked and leg very dry. Had 1 desert which was Tiramisu which was delicious. While service was satisfactory I don't think we will be going back.

Everything was well executed and presented beautifully. I really enjoyed the scallops and pork belly starter, I didn’t want it to end. The 6hour beef was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Even the bread with olive oil side was lovely. Everything was priced very reasonably down to the 2 for 1 cocktails. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

We often call here for a meal and the quality is always top notch. We had lunch here on the 23rd December and as usual it was excellent. Delicious mushroom to start followed by a turkey dinner cooked perfectly, and I've never tasted a better tiramisu (with coffee ice-cream)!

Despite often being in Carmarthenshire I've never visited Valans before but had wanted to and did so to meet up with some friends before Christmas for a Christmas get together.

I started going to the Valans Restaurant approx.10 years ago when it first opened,and I can honestly say that every meal I've had there since that very first time has been nothing short of excellent!. I eat there on quite a regular basis-sometimes on special occasions,and other times just for a family meal.The staff are always friendly and highly professional.They make you feel welcomed and important as soon as you arrive.The standard of te cuisine is very high-eventhough the price is very reasonable and affordable

17 of us met up a few were delayed on Mway but we received a warm welcome excellent choice of menu & tasty food.at a reasonable price We had a great time

We went a large group for the xmas quiz. The 3 course Italian meal for £18 was a real bargain and the atmosphere in the restaurant was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the quiz and even though we only came second we’d definitely return if they do the same next year. The food was good and well presented and good value for money. I opted for the lemon meringue ice cream for desert which was scrummy! Diolch yn fawr!

Had a lovely breakfast/brunch with the kids. My daughter had a vegetarian breakfast roll that she thoroughly enjoyed!! My son and I shared a margarita pizza that was stunning.

We visited while on holiday and had such a good meal that we booked for another day. We ordered the Perl Wen and Scallops to start, followed by the Lamb and Venison for mains, all cooked very well. Service was very friendly and we look forward to going back. Prices very fair for the quality.

Llandybie is only a small rural town so we were pleased to find such a delightful restaurant in the High Street. We ate here on a Tuesday and were glad we had booked as they were nearly full by 7.30. The menu is varied and interesting and the food beautifully cooked and presented. The service was efficient and friendly. Most diners appeared to be local and the atmosphere is warm as is the decor. The restaurant is easy to find and there is free street parking outside. Would definitely eat here again.

Our family visited last Sunday to celebrate my son’s birthday this week.

First time to Valans and I was not dissapointed. Excellent food, great value and amazing service. Set menu price for 1,2 or 3 courses with sufficient choice for all tastes. Thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait to visit again!

As a couple we are always on the lookout for a great place to eat lunch. TripAdvisor pointed us in the direction of Valans with its excellent reviews. We were not disappointed scallops and the poached egg to start were sublime followed by the slow cooked beef in pepper sauce full of flavour and plentiful. What made our afternoon was the wonderful service from llew a lovely young lad with great knowledge of the menu who explained it to us with great enthusiasm, thank you for making our day. We drove 100 miles round trip for the experience and not disappointed

We had dinner at The Valans and did not expect such a wonderful experience. From outside you may think the restaurant is closed but there’s a door on the right side to access the restaurant and it is worth it! Service was impeccable and the food was exquisite. Best mushroom risotto i’ve ever had. The Chocolate torte in dessert was very tasty as well. The wine was very good and comes in glasses of different sizes so that you’re not forced to order the whole bottle if you don’t feel like it. The prices are very reasonable, i would even have thought it would be more expensive considering the high quality of the food. Highly rencommend it.

Great service, lovely food and a nice ambience. What more can you ask for? The only reason why I wouldn't recommend it to anyone is that it may then get too busy and I won't be able to get a table next time! Seriously though, absolutely worth a visit.

The food and service was excellent. It is pleasing to have such an establishment in our local area. The staff provided an individual and excellent service, ensuring that our dietary requirements (vegetarian) were well catered for.

A rare thing for us, is date night. Staying in Ammanford for the week with the parents, so they had the children for the night whilst we went off to Valans for the evening. Baked cheese, 6hr beef followed by the plum crumble, my wife had the duck salad, rump steak and cheese board. Absolutely amazing food and great service. Would recommend for anyone to go to.

Went to Valans lunch time the meal was to die for, as always well cooked and very tasty, we took our 5 yr old granddaughter with us, on arrival at out house we asked her what she wanted to do, her reply was i would like to go to Valans for a meal, it says something how good a restaurant it is when a 5 yr old, puts that first, instead of the beach, she says it is her favorite restaurant, and we all agree with that, thank you Dave and all the staff for making a little girl happy, and her grandparents/

We went for my 65th birthday lunch, and in fairness the food was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, UNTIL I sent my burger back. I had requested 'well done' to the waitress, as i do not like the trend for medium/rare burgers. It was cooked medium so I sent it back to cook some more. We were close to the kitchen, so I then heard the chef start swearing and additional sarcasm about 'if you want it well done, ask for it' etc. So my wife went to the kitchen door and said something along the lines of "we did ask for well done and we can hear what you say",,,,and the angry response was 'I was talking to staff, you're not welcome back here, go back to your table'! My wife was extremely upset and felt the chef kept looking at her and in some way seemed to gloat. It spoilt what would have been a nice meal, and I hope my food had no 'extras' on its return.

Had a wonderful meal ( once again) at this lovely restaurant to celebrate my 50th birthday. Service at the restaurant is always warm and welcoming and the food a delight. It was busy for a Thursday evening but all our food came out in a timely fashion and beautifully presented. Thank you to all the team at Valan's for making my evening special ..... we will be back .

Good food, nicely presented, albeit a relatively small menu which includes items which we consider to be 'mid-week' meals at home, rather than when we eat out. The service is friendly and efficient and the prices very reasonable. There is nothing pretentious about Valans, in fact it is almost homely in ambience, but it consistently maintains its standards.

We were staying at a B&B; locally and our landlady recommended Valans. Very impressed! I had gnocchi to start and it was meltingly soft, then slow-cooked pork belly, which was just gorgeous and with a lovely apple sauce- not too sweet or salty. My partner was also really impressed. There was heaps of other things we wanted to try in the menu, so we asked if we could book for the next night (Friday) but they were all booked up. Obvious to see why! And lovely service too, very attentive waitresses. And the price was excellent, especially for the quality of food - 2 courses for two plus a couple of beers was around £55.

Five of us had our evening meal here. The food was good and the bill reasonable. The table was cramped for five and the restaurant was hot from the sun despite the blinds being drawn.

It is always a pleasure to eat here and sample their varied menus, good service and excellent food. Easy parking is a bonus!

We visited here again to celebrate my sister- in - law’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. We had reserved our favourite corner table by the wine bottle wall decoration. As usual we were given a very warm welcome even though it was some time since we had last visited. The menu is always mouth- wateringly tempting. My sister-in-law and I had the delicious mussels in white wine, cream and chives as our starter while my wife had the fish . For our mains we all had the lamb. Again excellent. We had tiramisu and creme brûlée for desserts. As usual the service and atmosphere were first rate. A pleasure to dine here again. We would advise booking in advance.

Went here for a friend's birthday celebration, after a recommendation from a friend. We weren't disappointed, great choice on the menu and blackboard. I had the Scallops with Black Pudding and Pea puree, one of my favourite combination and it was moreish. Followed by Garlic and Herb Chicken with Sautee Potatoes, if you like a lot of Garlic this is the dish. For dessert I had the Tiramisu again this was faultless. My friends had the Duck with redcurrant jus, and the Pork Belly, which she said melted in the mouth. The staff were great very friendly and professional. It's not a big restaurant which gives it a nice feel. The toilets are immaculate, the whole interior is of a high class. We have all agreed that we will definitely return.

A group of 10 of us visiting the area had a great meal here on Saturday night. Staff were helpful, food was delicious. Lime and coconut cheesecake very good. Scallops expertly cooked. Sea bass tasty. No complaints at all.

First time for a small 60th birthday gathering. Food average but whole atmosphere totally empty. Waitress couldn't really be bothered and hardly charismatic. Won't be going back.

My partner and I went here for my birthday last night. It’s been open for 13 years this year and I hadn’t tried it because I’ve lived away, even though my family have all recommended it.

Exceptionally rude staff who made a 83 year old woman cry!!! The rudest staff ever seen or experienced in a lifetime! A disgrace to Welsh hospitality!

I had not visited Volans for some time but a birthday gift of Valans vouchers prompted a revisit . Valans run by husband and wife team - Vales does not disappoint. Excellent food beautifully presented served by friendly staff. It’s a small restaurant and booking is essential but well worth it. Will visit soon

Variable menus of interesting food, good service and consistent high quality dishes are good reasons for return visits. We keep returning due the fact that we know that we will not be disappointed. Three course lunchtime menus for £18 are excellent value, combined with good service and smiles for free!.

Yet another visit to satisfy the soul and hunger of the passing traveller, always a pleasurable experience. Changing menus with specials, indicate the effort shown to cater for all tastes, also to keep the chefs sane -- not having to cook the same dishes day after day! All diners are treated with friendly smiles and efficient service. The food is always a positive experience resulting in clean plates!

We were a party of 4 and thoroughly enjoyed the Italian evening and table quiz. Every table was taken and you quickly realised why when the food came out it was excellent. 4 courses, each one was superb and so was the service. You couldn't fault the evening, the quiz was well thought out and the food price of £18 per head spot on. We will definitely be back next time with a bigger party.

Fantastic little restaurant. The set menu was great value for money. £17 for three courses. Shame we aren’t local as would definitely visit again!

Once again, big smiles, big welcome and excellent food --- the total package. Real value for money, which includes well balanced menus which are affordable, beautifully presented and interesting, these dishes fill the eyes as well as the stomach! Lunch for two costing £42 including drinks and coffee.

A family meal last Saturday evening. Starters and main meals absolutely delicious. The slow cooked beef was superb. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and the staff very approachable, friendly and attentive. I will certainly be going again when visiting family in Wales.

Had dinner here in August when staying in the area. The food was very good and excellent value for money and the service pleasant and efficient.The wine list was compared to similar restaurants overpriced which is a pity and stopped me from giving five stars.

We dined here to celebrate my father-in-law's 80th Birthday as it was close to his home.The food was well presented and tasty. The Restaurant is well lit and airy. Staff pleasant.A bit pricey especially the wine!

Just moved into the area and delighted to find this first class restaurant on our doorstep, not only is the food good and reasonably priced the staff are professional and friendly. I was worried about the atmosphere as I think I'm right in thinking it used to be a shop, I needn't of worried, every table was taken and it was buzzing. Can't wait to go again!

This was our first visit fir a couple of years and we found the place just as pleasant and welcoming inside as before. Clean airy and well-spaced tables. Service was excellent throughout from the moment we arrived and were greeted and shown to our table, to the service throughout the meal and when we asked for the bill. The menu wasn't cheap but there were three choices, the main menu at fixed prices for one,two or three courses, a specials menu which is cheaper, and some specials on a blackboard on the wall. The wine list is not large but there were good choices at reasonable prices, although there should be a greater choice by the glass. Our wine was excellent and the food delicious, and both well presented, and with good size portions. We had a very enjoyable time.

Our second visit and another tasty great value meal. I cannot believe how reasonable their food and wine prices are.

Another visit and another first class experience! The menu always serves up something different each time we visit, which is always of a high standard, and is never boring. Service is attentive yet discreet --- well done.

We were determined this evening to find ourselves a restaurant. Not a hotel restaurant, nor a pub or bistro or anything that was food from around the world. You'd be amazed how hard that is to find, yet this place was just the ticket!The food was fabulous (not quite sure the chips were necessary with the lobster and linguine meal I had, but if that's the only thing to grumble about, then it has to be good).Nearly had a 'Harry Met Sally' moment over the cheesecake and chocolate torte with the dessert wine!Can't comment on the starters as we didn't have those and so glad we did as we only just managed the 2 courses.The service from the well presented waiter was efficient, pleasant and informative in all the right measures.The decor was simple and contemporary with some inspired design touches that we are sorely tempted to replicate. The 'facilities' were very clean with coloured flannels for drying your hands with which were gave a sense of decadence.All in all, thoroughly recommended, but please don't tell everyone otherwise it'll be difficult for us to get a booking again!!??

We stayed at the Mill at Glynhir and they recommended Valans, we were so glad they did. We went on our first evening and continued for each of the following evenings.The food is imaginative and well presented and very good value.

We went for a light lunch on Saturday, but the menu was far too tempting to leave it at that. The staff were friendly and the food was really good - so good we ended up having three courses each. It comes across as a real family restaurant - totally unpretentious; totally excellent food.

Yet another visit for lunch! This is one of the very few restaurants in West Wales that I would recommend to my friends. This delightful eatery is tucked away in the centre of Llanybie and produces very happy people who have just sampled excellent food at very reasonable prices, having been served by efficient happy staff. All the food is freshly cooked and locally sourced with quality being the main priority. My total bill for two people was £52 including drinks and coffee.

Valans is a gem of a restaurant in the village of Llandybie near Ammanford. We have been regular visitors since it opened over 10 years ago and we have never had anything less than a first class meal. We have eaten as a couple, in large family groups and often with visitors from UK and Australia and the US. Everyone has been impressed. There is a limited table d'hote menu at lunchtime as well as a light bites menu. You can also order from the full a la carte menu. There is a good choice, including vegetarian options. The bill for 4 people including soft drinks came to just over £60. The service is excellent and the food is locally sourced whenever possible. I recommend this restaurant very highly.

Had our 50th Wedding Anniversary dinner for 21 people here recently.Great food, super service, excellent staff.
