Unicorn Inn in Cardiff

For some reason I was apprehensive about this pub as I remember the old one but have to say the welcome, service and food was excellent happy to call this my local. It’s dog friendly but would love to see some dog friendly items on the menus 🤣🐾🐾😜🤞🏽

Amazing food and service all everytime we go here

As a fussy vegetarian, the staff accommodated my needs fabulously. My partner had the buffalo rolls and he loved them. Can't wait to come back!

Newly refurbished pub, nice decor with a pleasant atmosphere. Not independently owned so has a standard pub food menu and selection of alcoholic drinks. I intend to go again as has a nice, community pub feel with friendly staff.

Went there on the off chance, both myself and partner were very impressed.the atmosphere and food was amazing and very well priced, will come again 😋

Visited the unicorn in today , was served at the bar by cat san Stacy and food served by kacey , just want to say .. amazing service and smiles all around , some amazing staff there and good atmosphere, great pub!

Lovely friendly staff food piping hot venue stunning

Unicorn Inn has been open just a week after being closed for several years. The service was excellent. The food quality was also excellent, and we have no hesitation in recommending it. The beer garden is quite large with a good play area. Without doubt, we will return.

Whole experience was great. Food was delicious and the service was friendly and warming. Great value for money and will definitely be returning.

What a little gem in Old St Mellons , Sunday Roast was superb 'choice of 3 , great veg and best ever mash. Good real ale too

Excellent food, service and ambience

Haven't visited in a long while, but what a difference, food is really good and plenty to choose from. Staff friendly and delivered above and beyond an amazing service. The unicorn refurbishment makes it more homley than before.

Very disappointed! Sunday lunch for four. Fairly busy for Sunday lunch service. No management present, no bar staff. Young waitresses had no direction, having to take orders, dispense drinks, serve food and take payment. Chaotic. Headless chickens spring to mind. Queues formed at bars, people moaning! Table next to us walked out as main meal served before starters and got fed up! Food was mediocre, yorkshire pudding was a hard, empty shell, tiny roast potato, stringy cabbage. To be fair enjoyed the apple pie pudding but not home made! Not cheap either. Won’t be going back in a hurry, shame as nice refurb, Terrace and garden.

Nice venue, pleasant staff but the wait for everything not so good! The Sunday meals we had were at best average and from a management point of view someone who knows what the hospitality business is about is desperately needed! Don’t think we’ll be back unfortunately.

Really nice pub , clean and friendly. Good food , staff very helpful. Pity the butty bach was off when we visited. Prices reasonable.

Lovely place, really great food and environment.

That was such a pleasent experience! Our first visit there and I have to say - it has exceeded my expectations! The food was so tasty and lovely. My partner however was not impressed by the choice of beer. Persanally , I don't drink alcohol, so for me there was nothing to complain about! 😄 I had Singapore Noodles with Cawliflower in butter things and my partner had a burger which he really enjoyed. (He has very high standards for burgers 😅, so if he says it was good - then it WAS GOOD! We will be visiting again for sure!

Great pub food at a very reasonable price. Very sociable staff who made us feel very welcome. Will definitely return.

The food was great and the service was excellent from staff who were friendly and not overbearing. The only detail that stopped me from giving 5 stars for the food is that there was no crackling with my roast pork Sunday lunch

Good atmosphere, decent drinks selection. In terms of food, think more could have been done with a better menu.

Table 7 time 14.25. 2x Sunday plus beef as stated on receipt. £25.98. I’m only sorry I never took a photo, first there was no as stated creamy mashed potato. Possibly a dozen sprouts or more?. And as for presentation I’ve seen better in a Mac Donald’s paper bag. Both meals were lukewarm at best the roast potatoes had some thing that resembles washing up liquid taste. I didn’t get asked if everything was ok with the food just if any dessert was required. At which point I told the young server the issues. Not in any way was I rude she replied I will let the kitchen know. I’m sorry to whoever is in charge but some quarter of a century ago that pub was the place to go sadly I can’t say that after that experience.

Lovely food for the price, went for Sunday lunch , it said dogs welcome so we took our little yorkie , unfortunately we got put into a corner out of the way with a wobbly table and swearing youngsters in the other corner who were vaping. So food nice atmosphere not

Really impressed with the refurbishment. A lovely atmosphere and very busy for a lunchtime. Glad we booked a table for lunch. The food was of good quality and plentiful and tasty and affordable. We did have to wait 40 mins for the food to be brought to table but as we weren't in a hurry it didn't matter.

Great local pub, good choice of beer and food, friendly staff and locals. After a recent refurbishment it's definitely one of the best pubs in the area. Fantastic outdoor area, restaurant and bar 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Staff were great and food was delicious if my pie was cooked for a couple more minutes even better but still very nice.

Spectacular Sunday Roast today (4th Feb 24) it is great to see this place back open, the staff were so welcoming, really tasty food, roast potatoes done to perfection, we can’t wait to go back, book to avoid disappointment, my compliments and thanks to the chef today!

Had a cracking meal. Very generous size, competitively priced, very tasty and friendly staff. They have done a brilliant job in refurbishing the pub.

Food is decent pub food, Monday to Thursday 2 for £18 is a great deal, food really nice for what it is, highly Recommend, the venue itself is beautiful and the staff are really nice and friendly

Just popped in for one drink. Lovely atmosphere. Lovely beer garden. Plenty of people eating but didn't eat myself.

My second visit since the re-opening, food was excellent, the stick toffee pudding was the best I’ve ever tasted. Staff are friendly and helpful a lovely place to spend time.

Brilliant service, food was excellent the kids and family ate everything. We also had cocktails and thought they were brilliant. Carly was fantastic, she was brilliant with the kids and also the service. Overall it was excellent and we will definitely visit again

Gorgeous place, so welcome and comfy, the staff are amazingly pleasant, helpful and efficient.

Sorry the food was not to our taste and would not recommend any of my friends to visit.

Excellent service from all bar staff and front of house, nothing to much trouble even on an extremely busy evening in the week prior to christmas, was notified immediately if food was sold out and alternatives offered. Very considerate staff as had one in our party who has severe allergies - they couldn't have been more helpful, all 16 of us had a fab evening. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely cosy little pub but when we went, pretty much half of the menu was unavailable. There were 7 of us in the group, all of our first and second choice dishes were out of stock so we left after having a few nibbles. Staff were not apologetic about it at all either. Very disappointed - would have been nice to have good pub food nearby, but looks like this isn’t it.

Nice upgrade to the whole place, reasonable prices. Very spacious interior and plenty good weather patio seating.

Only had a birthday drink didn't stay for the meal, couldn't compete with very loud conversations around us and foul language.

Just had one of the best roast dinners I've ever had here. I LOVE a roast dinner and it was absolutely delicious and only £13

It's a lovely warm cosy pub, with lovely decor. Lovely in the summer for families kids, playground at the rear. Plenty of staff but service was a bit erratic, food was just OK.

Very busy at the time of our visit therefore service was slow. Overall a good place for good value food.

A great afternoon out with friends for lunch. Ella and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful and couldn't have done more. A first rate place to go and highly recommended.

On reading this place had massive refurbishment programme. Should off thought more about customers. Nothing unicorn or any character in the building. Went out our way to see this place. More excitement in a spoons pub. Was starving and told at 3 50 pm on a Sunday the food stopped as expecting party off 30 in. Lots off youngsters working there chatting to eachother. Tables sticky such a shame

Festive menu was amazing. Tasty ,hot and plenty of it . Staff were welcoming and helpful . Good to see the place open again and I am sure it will thrive if our experience there is the norm

Sunday roast was great, plenty of meat, big portions (couldnt eat all) Bubbly, friendly staff. Lovely pub .

Apparently, they only serve at 1 side of the bar in this place. If you're not a local, you wouldn't know and would stand waiting at the other side for ages without being told, if this is the case!

The pub has been refurbished lovely, it's bright and cosy. The staff were really friendly and attentive. We went on a weekday and got 2 meals for £18 which was fantastic value - the meal sizes were great, we both left full! The food was served quick and both meals were piping hot. A really lovely pub, great food, reasonably priced and friendly staff.

Came for a meal with friends last night and i can i just say first of all what a lovely welcome from staff! So friendly and couldn’t do enough for us (tall blonde girl). I had the fish and chips with mushy peas and it was delicious! my friends enjoyed their food also. Will definitely be coming back again 🙂

Really nice Sunday lunch. Friendly staff that made sure we had everything we needed without being pushy.

Called in friday evening for a what was supposed to be a quick pint but were treated to a band playing, who were just awesome. There was a really good atmosphere there and that quick pint turned out to be a full night out 😁 (didnt manage to catch the name of the band though) Took a chance and called back in today for some food and managed to grab a table for sunday lunch. we both had a beef dinner (which i may add was lovely) and the kids loved the turkey dinner too. not a single thing left on their plates which for anyone who knows our kids will know thats a challenge. Not only was the food good but the staff could not do enough for us...... very helpful, friendly and polite. I think we all agreed that we will def be back for more.

Popped in for a few pints. Lovely place, nice atmosphere, and was fairly business the time we were in there. Wouldn't mind popping back and trying to food next time

Two out of four meals were good. The two meals we had were 90% I believe microwaved (Chicken & Ham Pie & Lasagne). The other two were decent meals but nothing amazing. However, service was fantastic and our server was very apologetic and took the two meals off of the bill. We will definitely come back because pre closure it was a favourite of the family. Maybe just some early teething problems that need to be rectified.

Third time we’ve been here and it’s always been an amazing atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff who were attentive, and entertained our one year old, and gave her a little toy to keep her entertained during our food! The chip shop platter and the chickpea curry were very well prepared and filling!! Huge portions and delivered in a timely manner. Great price and buzzing atmosphere for a Tuesday night, we’ll definitely make it a more frequent spot! Especially as it’s only down the road!

I know it's only just opened after its refurb but the food was not good,but we are giving it the benefit of doubt and will go back in a few weeks

Really nicely done up pub, and extremely busy the first few weeks it has been open. Bar service was incredibly slow, waiting 10min or more to get a pint

Paid a visit this evening for food. The pub is dog friendly and George the Cockapoo had the most wonderful welcome by the staff. They brought him a bowl of water and some doggie biscuits which he loved. Our food was superb. The staff are lovely and friendly. Great food menu. Highly recommend a visit, you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely food, it was very busy Saturday afternoon, so our food took a while to arrive. But very tasty and staff couldn't do enough for us.

Had to wait a long time for our food 1hr 20mins due to a party of 23, not just us, need to look how they deal with big party's with out others waiting so long

First time visiting the lovely pub tonight. Felt like a nice ambience and a friendly, warm atmosphere right from the moment we walked in and were shown to our table. The staff were very welcoming, friendly, polite and also didn't mind a bit of friendly banter. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced & that's the best pint of Butty Bach I've ever had. Thank you to the staff at The Unicorn for a great evening.

It’s so nice to see my local reopen. The staff are very friendly and prompt service during our visits. We visited on the first Friday it was open and had a really nice night. We have since been back during the day, very clean pub with a lovely atmosphere. We are so happy to have a fab pub around the corner!

Service at the Unicorn inn is outstanding and the food is delicious. There is plenty to choose from on the menu and a lot of variety for drinks. I can highly recommend going there as you will not be disappointed.

1st time been back since closed 5years ago menu was bit basic not enough choices,no basic lager all to strong food was good enough.

Impossible to book a table and no food unless booked. The place looks great though, and the staff is very nice.

Last time I was in The Unicorn was before it originally closed, my question as plan on coming soon is, Do you accept dogs? Like have you got a beer garden to have my dog sat there?

Lovely pub and has been revamped extremely well great staff and lovely atmosphere The food is very nice 👌 maybe the the meals could be hotter as all our 4meals were just warm and the half chicken was deep fried and my husband had an upset tummy afterwards so a little disappointed here x

Fantastic staff. Very friendly. Didn't try the food but it looks good. Fantastic building. Very nice layout. All very clean and tidy. One suggestion i would make is more lighting to the front of the building in car park. Will definitely go again. Nice to see the building have a brand new lease of life.
