Uncle Sams in Mid Sussex

This Uncle Sam’s used to be the 2nd best after the one in Montpelier Road in Brighton ….sadly since the new Franchisees have come in it’s standards have slipped to a point where I will not use them again , which is a shame as I work in Burgess Hill 1/ Mozzarella Dippers advertised at a price with a Dip …..when I asked if the Dip was inside I was told it was , but when I checked and it wasn’t I was told it was an extra £1 2/ I ordered a Hamburger meal ……with a shake which the menu says is one price …. But they stuck an extra £1 on as I had a shake …… once again , only informed after the fact 3 The Fries were stone cold 4/ the Hamburger was cold on the inside All in all PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD FRANCHISSES AND GET RID OF THE SHOWER THAT IS RUNNING IT NOW

What a shame…. Having visited Uncle Sams Burgess hill on and off over the past 35 years today was unrecognisable. It is now a place where flys go to die….the restaurant is filthy, the staff are polite but it is not the friendly, quirky fun service of before. The food is different, sauces are cheap, no flavour, salad poorly prepared. Just felt like a totally different restaurant. So sad for such a legendary eatery.

Been eating there since the mid eighties and still tastes great!! All star burger is a must extra cheese.

Realised order was wrong when we got home. Phoned to explain and the young lad on the phone asked what to do and was shouted at by a lady in the background. Took burger back to get replacement. The very rude lady cooking told me she didn’t want the food back, and snapped at me to put it in the bin outside. Put replacement burger on counter, no apology at all. So sad if local businesses want customers to return.

Proper burgers, beef and veggie and more, not piled up so you can’t get them in your mouth, hurrah! Really good tasty patties, lots of crunchy salad - and if you are a spicy fan their chilli salsa is the absolute tops! You can get an extra tub too for your fries. Amazing value, nice staff - and in the other branches - can’t understand why anyone chooses other burger joints. Love this place. And I think it’s a local business too👍🏻.

Had a burger from here first time I happy to say that they make the best burgers I’ve tasted. Services was quick and food fresh let made milkshakes are delicious strongly recommended.

So so so pleased that Uncle Sams have opened from Thursday to Saturday for takeaway orders using social distancing. I have missed this little treat and have used them for the last two weeks. The burgers are still amazing and fresh and tasty. The staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Great work guys and stay safe

As per all my reviews they are honest, good or bad. Used to be an all time favourite coming here for the last 20 years. I was extremely excited to have one tonight (I don’t live near by anymore) they have definitely changed ingredients and the burgers are not what they used to be. Real lack of quality on the beef and the burgers are definitely smaller. Seems the chips are just dipped in the fryer and that is a pet hate, undercooked chips. Go back to how you used to operate, you used to be king of the burgers.

The burgers at this establishment are the best ever, real meat, thick and juicy and absolutely delicious.

Wouldn't go anywhere else for a burger- the Blue Cheeseburger is always perfect and made with love. My kids love it too.

Best chicken & cheese burger! Mozzarella sticks are a must! Chocolate milkshakes are yum! Chicken bites are yum too! Only downside is the coke tastes flat probably cheap and looks a little run down inside

If you like your burgers fresh and tasty get down to Uncle Sams, a vast menu to choose from and cooked to order. Not the cheapest of take away burger meals but well worth it, my only gripe would be the large drink is not large at all I wouldn't even class its as medium - the cola is absolutely disgusting and cheap so alway upgrade to the milkshake they are delicious.

Omg this place is just AWFULL we ate here last night and we are both savagely poorly today , cold pink burger that we couldn't eat , brown cold burnt chips and flat cheep coke , disgusting place , it's so dirty inside and the floor is filthy , we are probs poorly from just entering the shop let alone eating it too , the people that work here look really dirty and unhygienic , will be making a formal complaint , with doctors notes ect , terrible !!!! This place needs to be shut down I have never been inside somewhere that's so fithly and never paid money for such terrible food , I would of rather dined on my dogs chicken and beef patte dinner for one !! A good clean , a good bath , and some new oil and dryers are needed for the place and the people who work here !!

everything here is good, unless you want to chance the order slightly, for example "no onions" the staff when taking your order will repeat the order back and even say it again when its done, but you will find a meal unaltered to your request, i don't know if they don't listen or just don't care, but i have never had this problem with other food places in this town

Tasty burgers at good value. Good service and a few tables if you want to eat in. Good menu choice and have visited on a number of occasions.

Growing up we often had an Uncle Sam burger and having had one again recently it was just the same as it used to be. A lovely large burger full of flavour. X

The boys were very polite and ready to help, whereas some of the girls were very rude and lairy before I entered the shop. This made me very unhappy and disappointed.

Uncle sams is a very nice fast food takeaway burger and fries place . Always ok . Enjoy whilst its hot as unfortunately dosnt stay hot for long ! .

When I had finally got home me and my family ordered some food. My chicken nuggets didn’t turn up very poor and may not go back.

The burgers are great and made to order. My brother is vegan and they are alwyas willing to give him the burger without mayo or whatever. I prefer this place to any other in town (McDonalds). The milkshakes are definitely thick and tasty and are a good treat in summer.

All food cooked to order. The burgers are juicy and tasty. The best for miles around. Service is fast with little waiting for your order.

As McDonalds has closed for a few weeks I decided to give Uncle Sams ago. I was very impressed. The burgers were freshly cooked, and really good. The chips were hot, and the milkshakes were amazing. The staff were very friendly, and happy. I wish I had tried this place years ago.

Having been a regular customer to this particular Uncle Sams for at least 30 years, I was horrified to find the burger that I had ordered was soggy and the under cooked. Parts of it were still pink. My wife’s burger was exactly the same. She went to politely and quietly complain to the teenager behind the counter and was ultimately told that “Eating a raw burger wouldn’t hurt you” from the member of staff. He admitted that by cooking too many burgers at once it loses heat during the cooking process and that the burgers were still edible.

Brilliant food my favourite place to eat in town! Couldn’t ask for more! Really friendly staff always welcoming and polite! Really recommend visiting Uncle Sams!

Have been coming here on & off since Uncle Sams in Burgess Hill first opened around 1982 - ish. Every time I have been it has always been a top quality place where you were greeted with a smile & great service. That is, until around 9.30pm last night when I was greeted by a surly & disinterested young lady who took my order. The rest of the staff were more concerned about chatting than working & that was clearly demonstrated by my order being incorrect to the tune of no extra chilli & only a single burger (I ordered & most probably paid for a double) plus all the patties in all 3 burgers I ordered were cold. It seems that after 35yrs of trading, certainly the Burgess Hill branch of Uncle Sams has finally succumbed to becoming “average” rather than consistently being at the top of their game. Sadly, I will no longer make this my regular go to place as it has been for so long. Sad times.

I much prefer Uncle Sam's, but tonight was a real disappointment.

My son put me onto Uncle Same. Not the most attractive shop front in town it has to be said but that taste of their burgers! Very nice indeed! You don't have to wait too long but the burgers do seem to be cooked to order. The fries are good as well.

Uncle Sam's holds great nostalgia for me. I have been going there at least once a year with my Dad since I was old enough to eat a burger, when we visited the area he grew up in. We usually had the garlic or blue cheese burger and it was 'our favourite place.' Unfortunately, it took bringing my husband with us this time to discover, as you only do when you recommend a food/restaurant to someone important, that actually the food is really, really bad. Flavourless and greasy, weak flavoured watery milkshakes, surly and disinterested service.Granted, I still love Uncle Sam's... but is for the pure nostalgia alone.

I had low expectations. The place looks, well, average. Not a place to linger BUT very acceptable food, good portions and excellent value served by clearly hard working staff who might possibly be under-appreciated and so 10/10 for them. Given the opportunity, I will return,

I have been going to this franchise for many many years and they are by far the best burgers in the South East and its always consistent. Their double garlic burger has to be one of the best burgers I have ever tasted and I have spend a majority of my adulthood in the United States which in my opinion, serves the best burgers in the world. Their strawberry shake cannot be beaten and always has to be a large and I always look forward to visiting an Uncle Sams as you exactly what you will get. Its always cooked fresh and the mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise always infuses to make the burger and its contents so enjoyable. I cannot give enough kudos to this franchise and I will always opt for an Uncle Sams if one is local to me.

Good alternative to McDs- onion rings with garlic dip are stand out along with our biggest burger which is really tasty. Shakes and apples pies are good as well.

Burgers were good. Delivery within 50 minutes, which can't be considered as 'fast food'. The worst thing was the small quantity for high prices. Definetely won't be asking for a delivery service again.

Growing up in this town Uncle Sams was always a treat. I've never found a burger that tastes quite the same and the Chilli sauce is the best I've found. Now I've moved away I still get an Uncle Sams every time I come back!Don't think I need to say anymore than that- Perfect!!

You really can't beat a burger from Uncle Sams, don't bother with the larger chain restaurants, you're always guaranteed a proper beef burger. Freshly cooked to order, so don't expect it to appear instantly, so you know you're onto a winner from the start. Staff are always friendly and they seem to be able to keep them too. They open from 11.00am to 10.00pm

Enormously enjoyed a Chili Burger meal (chili burger, fries and strawberry shake). Visited the restaurant because I was hungry and had always loved the Uncle Sam's burgers served in the Portsmouth outlet. I was not disappointed. Service great and burger cooked perfectly whilst I waited.

This stop has and will always have the best thick shakes . They always cook on order and the burgers are big and fattening. This is an amazing place and always stop for a quick drink after getting of the train

Went there with College the service was amazing and the dish I had which was Chicken Sandwich with Onion Rings and a Fizzy Lemon Drink was very yummy defiantly have to come back again.

My Brother took me thete yesterday. I 'm not a fan of burgers but I loved this one. A few tables outside quick service the burgers were quite big. My brother had a huge double burger with chilli sauce . He said best chilli sauce and he lived the toffee milk shake.Will return next time in the area.

Now been going to Uncle Sam's for twenty years.Had a chilli burger and fries the taste was awesome and the service was friendly and polite.If you want your burger freshly grilled with blue cheese or chilli and a great salad in a fresh bun you will not be disapointed.

I came in here as recommended by a friend, however a young lad whom was working at the time ignored my presence and continued to play on his phone. After a while he noticed me and came over to take my order. whilst waiting for my order he proceeded to chat to another about his personal life, which was way to detailed for my liking. I understand it was quiet at my time of visit but this was unnecessary. I was then served my food with no smile or anything. Utterly shamed.

Fantastic. I visited last Sunday for my weekly burger, and was pleased to see the same two lads who work every Sunday daytime, always put a smile on my face, and not just with the burger but with their fantastic service! I believe the young man who makes the burgers was called Darren, what a charmer! Would recommend to all burger lovers, fresh, and cooked to order, unlike some places in Burgess Hill...Tina Brian

If you've never had an uncle Sams then your missing out big time. They do a vast array of burgers from a standard cheeseburger to a Texan burger with onion rings in! Every time I go in I order something different as it never disappoints! You can take anything out the burgers or add anything extra in. The staff are always happy and the service is brilliant. I usually come in on a Thursday evening and the two lads who work are very efficient. Any burger to suit any need, I've even seen staff wrap burgers in foil to ensure people's food stay hot, (you would never get that service in McDonald's)Great staffGreat burgers Great place

I have been eating at uncle sams for many years. Burgess hill is one of the first, and in my opinion the best. The food is always fresh, and the service is quick. The chilli burgers are the best.

Having spent a very chilly morning at Hickstead for the cross county league for the kids, we though we would all warm up with a burger. I have known of Unclee Sams for years and remember fondly the original one in Brighton. There really is nothing better than a fresh Uncle Sams burger and I went for the chilli burger with extra cheese, onion rings and fries. It was delicious although the fries are just frozen old fries and teh onion rings werent the best quality. To be honest you could just go there and eat the burger as that is definitely the best bit about it. The taste hasnt changed and it still delivers!For no frills burger definitely worth a visit but my advice is eat immediately as the taste changes for the poorer the longer you leave it if going home with your meal. Also, if you like a branded coca cola then you will have to get before you get there from the newsagent across the road as they dont sell on the premises. Just the rubbish from the dispenser although I am told the milkshakes are pretty good.

It's a guilty pleasure. Yes it's fast food but in terms of burgers it beats the local competition hands down. The service is quick and there's plenty of different burgers on the menu. It may be a few pence dearer than McDonald's but it's better by far.

Been a while I had the chance to come to Burgess Hill but yesterday I enjoyed another great blue cheese burger. I always debate to order two as they are so nice and cooked to order but one is enough. Perhaps a bit more blue cheese would have been nice.

Wow I have been going to Uncle Sams since it first opened in Burgess Hill. When I was a lad I would go and get my junior burger and fries! When I grew up I started having the cheeseburgers and they are the best. I walk there from work at lunch times, once or twice a month and much prefer it to MacDonalds or the other fast food places in town. I always have cheeseburger, fries and a shake. The only difference after all this time and my only gripe is that fries used to be great, American thin fries, we now have the thicker fries which although are good are not as good as they were. I normally eat in and one of staff bring the tray over to your seat. Burgers are cooked to order so they are always hot and tasty. Seating is at a premium in here and I don't like sitting in the window seats as everyone stares in when they go past. If it is hot I take out to the local park just behind and sit on the grass and eat it. They have one toilet which could do with modernising. Only other negative is the loud music the staff play.

Good quick service and great taste, chips do go cold quickly though. good value, cant imagine why anyone would want to queue at the nearby Macdonalds.

Consistent quality, so much better than a McDonalds. Plenty of options for vegetarians and meet eaters alike.

As burger take aways go this is better than Mac Donalds offering a comprehensive choice of meals, The burgers are more flavoursome and satisfying and you feel that you have had a reasonable meal rather than a quick snack as is the case with with Mac Donalds. Not the most attractive of venues but it does offer reasonable value for the money. A handy location but parking can often be a problemat certain times of the day so if you have to walk some distance back to the car you may have to re heat your food when you get home as it is likely to have cooled down a lot.

Whenever we want a takeaway we always go here. Food is wicked and always hits the spot. Will def keep going back.

My wife grew up in this area and moved to West Yorkshire. Every time we have a burger take away she raves about Uncle Sams. When we visit her parents in Burgess Hill we cannot not stop for an Uncle Sams. Last weekend I had the blue cheese burger and wanted to have another one but was too full. Will be back !!!

First we tried to get food at the hotel, but the vegetarian option was almost non-existing, then we walked to a local gastro pub with rave reviews. The pub was crowded and loud. Walking back we saw uncle sam. We went in, and lo and behold, vegetarian burgers, friendly staff, amazingly good food that we could smuggle into our hotel and eat in our room.Uncle sam might look plain, but the food is not. try it, it might surprise you.

My husband has been a fan of Uncle Sam's since he were a wee lad, now I'm a convert too and there's nothing nicer than having Uncle Sam's meal for lunch.Fantastic value and sooooo much fresher and tastier than the mass burger chain places!

i love the hawian burger. they are always hot, chips are good. service is fast. don't use this all that regularly but when i do it is always good.

I've been living in burgess hill for 18 months now, friends have often spoke about uncle sams and how the burgers are so tasty so my boyfriend and I gave it a go and weren't disappointed, I would go as far to say that it was the best burger I've ever had also the staff where very friendly and efficient, and the milkshakes are to die for, will be returning soon.

I have been dining here for at least 20 years now and the food has always been consistently great. Always a fast friendly service and reasonable prices far out weigh the other poor quality burger bars in Burgess Hill. A winner every time!

Unlike the mass burger bars, at Uncle Sam's (in Burgess Hill, at least) - it's a veggie's paradise. Separate frier, separate tongs, everything kept well away from meat. And, you can have any 'normal' burger as either a veggie, beanburger or potato rosti option. Plus there's Quorn bacon. Great food, great service and great selection. Sit-down ends at 9pm though.

When we were kids my dad used to bring us here, and now we all bring our kids here . This place is awesome for burgers. I guess that's why its stood the test of time. keep up the good work sams we love you

Huge variety of burgers and they're actually tasty! Much better than the fast food chains. Bit pricier but well worth it. The milkshakes are very good too.

I used to live in Burgess Hill many moons ago, and thats when I first started eating here.In the 12 or so years since then, I have eaten here many times and never once had a poor burger, they really are the best burgers I have eaten in the UK.Its a little more expensive than BK or a McD but the quality of the meet and ingredients puts them well above both. So much so that even tho i live over 30 minutes drive away, if we are in the area we stop in for lunch/dinner, can't say that about many burger places!Chicken nuggets (actually real pieces of chicken) with garlic dip are also very good, and the milkshakes are very pleasant as well.

Well what can I say went in sat after a few beers and had the chilli burger blew my mind and my back door later let's just say wow that's serious chilli sat on the throne and my bum went down for a drink that's no bull , but well done excellent keep up the good work ;) rock on skaters

No one can knock your burgers for taste and value except the meal deal components ie chips and drink are on the small side. Please take this as constructive criticism but your Burgess Hill shop always looks unkempt and dirty. I see the floor is a dark slate now possibly because it doesn't get mopped and tables are sticky with Friday Ads scattered about. Worse today was a lad in a vest behind the jump (not working) but there messing about. Your staff member was giving out ketchups and mayos to customers who were obviously known to him. I asked and was charged. I declined them. Quite frankly the lad behind the jump didn't really care if he was there or not. Uncle Sam's you are a business not a teen playground! Standards please.

Uncle Sam's burgers are all cooked to order, so they are always fresh and hot. The staff are always very friendly and happy to serve you. The shop is always kept clean. You have to try an Uncle Sam's chilli burger. The chilli sauce is incredible. Its home made and is very spicy. The milkshakes are really good. If you compare the quality and size of the burgers to the big chain burger shops its great value for money. They also sell fresh ground coffee, and as they are just down from the station its very handy if you are catching a train. Uncle Sam's has been around since the 1970's, and the reason they have survived so long is they are so much better than any fast food shop in Burgess Hill.

There is one thing that let's this place down and that is the dated exterior. Attempts have been made to update the interior with limited effect. However, I don't come here for the decor, I come here for the best burgers around. Unlike other burger competitors, Uncle Sam's cook all of their burgers to order, so they are as fresh as possible. They use fresh ingredience such as lettuce, tomatoes and pineapple. The chips are better than the competitors as well, however they charge for sauces which I think it a bit mean. If Uncle Sam's had the same advertising budget as the 'big two' burger competitors, they would blow them out of the water. Most people would choose freshly cooked food at better prices as opposed to mass produced processed food, that can sit under a heater for up to 40 minutes for more money.

This place looks like loads of cheap plastic burger bars but the burgers are fantastic! Make sure you take away as the 'restaurant' is like a Wimpy from the 80s! The chilli burger is excellent!!

possibly the best place to get a fast food burger in the south east! lovely big juicy meat pattie with fresh veggies, good options on sauces (blue cheese, thousand island etc) veggie options, fish/chicken. proper bacon, not cheap bacon processed rounds. also do onion rings, and shakes so thick your straw won't budge an inch! yummy

This branch of Uncle Sams has been here for over 20 years and in my opinion,continues to sell the best hamburgers in town. The basic patty is a nice large juicy slab of meat and you can of course order it with many options of toppings. I have been frequenting this establishment pretty much since it first opened and these days, whilst I might only partake of one of their meals every couple of months or so they consistently prepare a very tasty burger. I always go for the bacon cheeseburger option and it really is a good eat. Their fries are fine and I just have a hot drink with it but they do a range of shakes as well. The staff always seem to be helpful.So whilst there is a McD outlet in town I would certainly say the much better option can be found at this place. They do have a few other places around the south coast so it's worth checking the company out.
