Uig Community Centre Cafe in Eilean Siar

There are very few places to eat in this area and this is a very welcome cafe serving light lunch items in a very well run cafe environment by friendly people. Lovely home made cakes available !

Enjoyed an excellent lunch at Uig Community Cafe. Coffee, soup and toasties and 'Bake Off' winning standard cakes! The couple running the cafe are obviously happy in their work, both welcoming, friendly & happy to chat, despite being busy. Look forward to eating here again, thank you.

Prior to our visit to the Abhainn Dearg Distillery, we stopped for lunch. Friendly service, an d very good food. Their cafe were lovely too.

We called in on our way to walk on the beaches. Had planned to just have coffees but were too tempted by the cakes. I have a nut allergy and the welcoming staff member was thorough in checking what I could eat, without resorting to the ' we can't guarantee. ..- so don't have anything ' cliché I often experience. I enjoyed a delicious lemon cake, as well as using their wifi for which we were happy to pay 50p.

A lovely place to stop and get refreshed before or after a visit to the amazing Uig Sands. The people serving were super friendly and helpful, the cakes tempting to look at and delicious to eat. There is a very interesting museum with lots of interesting items and information about the history of the place.

Soup and toasties and a wonderful wee Museum giving great insights into the rich history and heritage of this remarkably scenic area.

If you are in this area drop in and you wont be disappointed, great coffee and very nice people too, enjoy.

Uig is perhaps lesser known than other parts of the Lewis/Harris island but definitely worth a detour to escape the crowds and to visit the Community Centre Cafe. No pretentious just decent tea and coffee with outstanding, home baked cakes and a view to match. The ginger loaf was probably the best cake had on the island!

Great community run cafe in Uig. Lovely lunch and the cakes are to die for. Only complaint was that it didn’t open on weekends during our stay.

Friendly café, nice range of lunches, home-made cakes and home-made icecream. I had a nice lunch of local salmon pâté with home-made made oatcakes but sadly decided to forgo one of the tempting cakes.

Stopped here while touring around Lewis excellent coffee and the cake was delicious all home baked. Staff were very friendly and efficient.

We stopped here for lunch in early June. The cafe offers a number of options, although we both decided to have a toastie each, followed by a piece of cake - it was lovely …. Simple and straightforward. The cake was amazing. All reasonably priced. Make sure you check the opening hours though as it’s quite a way off the main roads if you decide to just go that way to visit the cafe. There is also a museum on the site- although we didn’t visit as the weather was so lovely we wanted to be outside ! Would definitely visit again.

Highly recommend. Owners are utmost welcoming and delicious food. Fresh home made cake is a must try when visiting. Also bought lovely pair of earrings.

Felt welcome right away! Had lovely toasties in the cafe with the best homemade coleslaw. Followed by a trip to the museum. The perfect stop in Uig on a dreich day. Highly recommended.

We visited the cafe a couple of times when staying in Uig. It’s a great place. The menu is the right size for a community café and The food is very good. We’ve had soups, sandwiches, cakes and teas and coffees. The service is excellent...

After a trip down to Uig beach we came across this place, well such a warm and friendly greeting. Obviously well supported by locals. Homemade oatcakes and smoked salmon pate were amazing!! As were the smoked salmon toasted sandwiches, homemade cakes and great coffee. Great...

Attended here for the first time with family. Easy access for anyone in a wheelchair, great homemade local menu selection. We had a mix of toasties and soup with delicious homemade cake after. Staff were lovely, friendly and accommodating. Quick in clearing and wiping tables...

Friendly staff providing home made bakes. If you are looking for chess pieces then this eatery eases the disappointment on finding the museum pieces are replicas.

We had a very tasty meal here - homemade soup and home-made smoked salmon pate with oatcakes. Also Janet's homemade ice cream. It was warm, comfortable and friendly. And very fair prices. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

We always use community café on holiday and this was THE best we have visited. Food was excellent (sandwiches, the cakes !!!! and the salmon pate !!). Staff friendly. Would heavily recommend. We kept returning. As an added bonus the history timeline in the adjacent...

This is a smashing place. We went for lunch: soup and filled panini, cake and drinks. They were all delicious and all served with a big helping of Hebridean smiles.

Welcoming café next to the local primary school. A delicious variety of home made cakes on offer all made by the ladies volunteering in the kitchen/servery. Lunchtime snacks also very good, we had toasties and a salmon pate which were delicious. A very useful café with a small museum of Uig life attached and plenty of parking too. Called here several times during our holiday last month.

Touring the Outer Hebrides, we came across this community centre and cafe for a light lunch, and were delighted to try the local salmon and the cafe's own oatcakes, served by friendly people in a light and airy room. Delicious food and very reasonably priced. We also enjoyed reading about the local history and visiting their small but fascinating museum.

This is a good cafe which is part of the community centre, museum and at the side of the school. The food is good quality, cooked by local staff and a good selection. It is great to support local communities which privide these facilities.

Lovely friendly little cafe with a reasonably extensive contemporary menu. The service was great and the lemon curd cake was excellent. I only wish it had been dog friendly as our yellow lab had to wait patiently outside in the car. Highly recommended.

Pleasant little cafe, great museum, bacon roll slightly disappointing nevertheless lovely young waitress called Lucy who was very helpful and friendly made our visit more enjoyable. definitely recommend.

Visited recently and they had a great selection of cakes,soup & toasties were fab,only one issue,I ordered cheese sandwiches as well as the toasties,but the cheese was cut like door wedges,was really off putting,grated cheese would be much nicer,but apart from that it was all great.

It takes a while to get to this via some interesting road but Uig is worth the visit and the Community Centre Cafe is a nice place to recover from the journey. The centre is a community hub and events are planned throughout the year hence the 'self service' visit.

Your choice of places to eat in this part of the Hebrides is limited, but nevertheless you will not be disappointed if you chose the Uig Community Centre Café. We were treated as if we were lifelong friends by the staff. A good range of dishes on the menu and the smoked salmon with oatcakes was delicious. And the sun shone from clear blue skies!

We arrived to visit the small community museum. Its £2 entrance and looks very small but the information inside is really good telling local stories. Information can be found on the Lewis chessmen that were discovered on the local beach. Having spent longer than expected in the museum, the cafe was very inviting. Pleasant staff serving a mixture of foods along with cakes and sandwiches all of which were homemade.

Lovely lunch in a beautiful part of Scotland. A community run facility that is a credit to everyone involved. While you are there for £2 you can spend an interesting hour in The Heritage Centre learning all about the Uig area in days gone by.

This is a lovely run volunteer community centre. They have lots of snacks and tea/coffee. The folks that volunteer are lovely and the attached museum is a must see! Lovely place to stop for a pot of tea and get a good feel for the lovely community of Uig!

This is a lovely place to call into and the food is first class. Staff are exceptionally friendly and go out of their way to be helpful.

We last visited this lovely cafe three years ago when we were on Harris, and we were delighted to see that it was still as good as ever. We were only in for tea and cakes but they have an excellent menu for lunch and other snacks. The cakes are all locally baked and are particularly delicious and the service is cheerful and friendly. They also serve some locally made ice-cream which is absolutely delicious - sample it if you're in there!

Dogs are not allowed inside. With very little to do this is a high point. Sweet museum and gift shop and. ..... a cafe!!!! Good filter coffee. Lovely cakes. Good hot bacon rolls. Nice people. You are eating well and supporting the community

Only had coffee and cakes, but both were extremely good as was the service. The centre has a real sense of community.

After a lovely visit to the local beach went to the Community Centre Cafe for lunch. It was very busy but we got a seat OK. We all ordered the same, local smoked salmon with home made oat cake and salad. The food arrived quickly and was very good. All in all the service, food and quality of service was excellent.

We stumbled across this place purely by chance and so we stopped for a cup of tea and a light lunch. We settled for the smoked salmon and home baked oatcakes - what a winner! Absolutely delicious!

The cakes were as good as they look in the photograph, we ate a good few of them between the four of us when we visited on our way around the island.

Had lunch here twice within four days, the second time bringing friends to view the superb little museum. There was a good choice on the menu, the first time I had the black pudding roll, the second time the smoked salmon toastie. Both first class. Others in our group had the soup of the day which was declared excellent.

The staff here are so nice, and the orange and white chocolate sponge cake was so good we had some more, the best cake I have ever had!! we were so glad to find this place, If you get the chance don't miss it!

Situated at the end of air Uig this place is a wonderful place where you can have a coffee a cake but overall a place to speak, to see the local craft

We ate here twice - once for a lunch on a rainy day and then later in the week to catch a cup of tea and cake. We had the local smoked salmon pate with home cooked oatcakes which were both brilliant. Friendly, efficient service and speedy food preparation with the prices very reasonable for fresh ingredients. Ordered and paid at the counter and food delivered to our table. The cake was equally impressive in quality and cost when we returned. There are some very good gifts and souvenirs in the shop such as locally produced Harris Tweed scarves with a Community Museum next door, so well worth a visit.

Having made the journey out to Uig it was great to find the centre still open. We'd been beaten by a coach party, but let them get clear of the café by having a wander a round the centres museum - only 3 pounds and lots to go at. Once the coach had left we had the café to ourselves and were quickly tucking in to the soup and a sandwich. On leaving I spotted the whisky fruit cake - one last piece. The lovely lady behind the counter said that she would keep it for me until I got back!

Having driven umpteen miles on single-track roads to get there, we were a little disappointed as the building didn't look too appealing from the outside. However, on going inside we were delighted to receive a friendly welcome in a comfy cafe which served delicious soup and cakes.

Can't say how wonderful it was to find this place when we were in Uig. Simple, delicious hearty food and outstanding value. Make sure you enjoy Janet's home-made deserts-especially the ice cream!

The outside really does look. Rather unappealing but a very warm and friendly welcome inside. The food was delicious and served quickly despite being very busy with locals and tourists.

We visited on a really wet day after we'd been around the museum. The cafe is bright and clean. Menu is varied and the cakes are delicious & homemade. We stopped for lunch and treated ourselves to cake too. Very reasonably priced and the ladies working there were lovely. Well worth a visit.

Lovely little community run cafe. Play park for kids to run around outside. Also little museum there £2 entry kids free. Soup toastie etc at fair prices. Fresh baking with lots of choice - very good. There was 8 of us and the staff looked after us. Service was good and place had buzzing atmosphere with mix of locals and tourists..The smoked salmon pate was amazing with the most delicious homemade oatcakes..I bought some to take away! lovely drive to get there with stunning views and beaches. Found great little secluded beach near by used by locals..had it all to ourselves - So nice...also found great little place called 'the scallop shack' on route to uig 'Maivaig' beside Sea Treak boat trip place at small harbour..maybe 10mins before you come to uig. .the best and biggest scallops I have ever had in my life. Owner kindly kept them in fridge and has honesty box for passers by. We picked them up at end of day. Oysters and kippers to eat with outdoor seating too. Have been here a number of times. Excellent homemade cakes and the smoked salmon with oatcakes is supberb. Very friendly. Also visit the small museum next door.

Best lemon cake I have ever had. There is some real genius at work here! Stopped by for a late lunch - we enjoyed speaking with the women staffing the counter and did I mention the cake? Amazing!!

This place was a revelation. The building itself is pebbled dashed and nothing to write home about - and even the giant wooden Lewis chessman outside has been positioned with a waste pipe protruding from its head. But inside it is an oasis of amazing cooking and hospitality, and the BEST cakes I have ever tasted. We sampled the chocolate cake, lime and coconut cake, and passion cake, and all were simply gorgeous. There is also a little musem attached it's some history about the area, which is well worth the couple of quid entry fee. The Adams photos of black houses in the 1930s were brilliant, as in the timeline of events in the area. Highly recommended.

This little place is truly a community Centre, bringing people together (locals and tourists alike) to enjoy delicious home baking, dished up with warmth and conversation. A great stop!

Stopped halfway along a 6 mile walk around the area. Delicious lunch folowed by amazing coffee & walnut cake. Very friendly staff.

If you are in the area and needing fuel for either yourself or your car, this is the lace to stop. On top of satisfying your needs you will be supporting the local community with income to see the project through the lean winter months.

Before spending a couple of nights camping at Ardroil Beach, we went to this community centre for a light lunch and to find out more about the area. The food was tasty and served quickly - exactly what we needed. And the staff were very helpful - they told us where the local shop was, gave us dinner recommendations, and even let us use their phone to call a couple of places in the area that we wanted to visit. They have wifi too - useful when you're in an area where phone signal is nigh on impossible to find! This is an essential stop if you are staying in the area.

Best cafe experience on Lewis / Harris, cullen skink was excellent, views were amazing, loved the Harris Tweed flowerpots and the folk museum next door is really worth a look too. Also worth a trip to see the large wooden berserker chess piece outside the door.

It's a community centre so doesn't look much but it's a fabulous and friendly place with lovely gluten and dairy free cake. Great little museum in same building is well worth a visit.

The Uig Community Centre - both cafe and museum are excellent.We were impressed by the desire to really make visitors welcome and to build up the community at thesame time. Tea and Cakes were realkly good - and the Museum is really excellent with interesting exhibits and very knowledgeable local people who will happily talk to you abput the history of Uig and the exhibits.
