Two Brewers in Welwyn Hatfield

I popped down to find it closed . Closed from mid to early December, illness I understand. A terrible shame for a great pub and former community hub .

Popped into here for a bite to eat for lunch today. After reading some reviews, I had high hopes. Unfortunately the food wasn’t great at all. I would have enjoyed McDonald’s more!! I had a homemade chicken and leak pie. It was so stoggy. Not very well made. My partner had ham and chips. Yep, that’s it. Just ham and chips. No eggs. Such a basic thing which took around 40 minutes to come out. It looked and tasted like ham slices from a packet and the chips were frozen. That cost £16 😳 first and last time for me I’m afraid.

Three years ago before this pub changed hands I was a regular along with my family and friends. Alas having just eaten there with my daughter I won’t be going back. It’s now just a very ordinary pub. Having seen on their web site that pies were their speciality, we were told there were no pies available tonight ! The restaurant was virtually empty whereas three years ago it was virtually full up whenever I went there. What a shame as another great pub/restaurant bites the dust 👎🏻

Very disappointing menu choice - 4 things on specials board not available. Steak diane was misleading - just a peppercorn sauce. Website pictures bore no resemblance to actual food on offer. Virtually empty restaurant, rugby match on tv in background.

Lovely Sunday roast, for me portion too big, so couldn't fit in a dessert. My family did and enjoyed them too. Service very good.

Heard good things about the Sunday Lunch, it's all true, it was great, generous portion sizes, all cooked well, desserts are great too.

What a delightful find this place was. The lovey old architecture and the welcome were very special. As for the meal, wow it was outstanding. The staff were attentive and thoughtful at all times. The little extras were much appreciated, the food was delicious and the visit was very special and memorable for our family.

Great food-well cooked. Also offered some salad alternatives for Sunday lunch and really nice to see some fresh fruit for those of us who want to eat healthily. Pleasant staff too. Will definitely be returning.

Third visit for a meal in three weeks, generally only go for drinks. Good atmosphere, friendly staff and great food with generous portions. The scampi tails are the best I’ve ever tasted.

Our favourite pub. Staff are a delight as is the food. Sunday lunch is particularly good and not unsurprisingly very popular. Book in good time. The lady who cooks does the best steak and kidney pies ever.

To see the help in apron ,drinking tea at one of the set dining tables was not a good look, going in. The soup was good, but the steak and kidney pie, supposedly home-made ,had very soggy pastry ,similarly ,soggy crumble on the dessert. So, not very satisfactory. The other first course was scallops which were rather rubbery. The main course of Scampi was delicious...the scampi light and juicy, home-made tartare sauce and a substantial salad. A great pity that the food was so uneven ,we want to support our pubs in these difficult times, but this was very disappointing.

A thoroughly enjoyable lunch today for five of us, excellent service, lovely food, generous portions and reasonably priced. Only downside is, sadly, I live too far away to be a regular visitor.

The food is cooked in house. Is flavoursome fresh and good value. The staff are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is homely.

Mothers Day Sunday Lunch was fantastic. Everything lovely especially fresh vegetables. All served piping hot and without a long wait. There were extremely busy but very attentive and didn’t feel rushed. Puddings were lovely but cheesecake more like a mousse cake. Always excellent service and value

We have visited several times for Sunday lunch and never been disappointed, lovely owners and fantastic Sunday lunch, would definitely recommend.

We asked whether they could serve rare roast beef & they said yes. When our feed arrive the roast beef was burnt black like piece of old leather! The games by was bistro. The Yorkshire pudding was aunt Bessie. Noting home made about any of it The owner blamed the waitress bit gave us our money back for one persons meal.

I just had a lunch with family at the two brewers. The food was enjoyed by people on my table and the waitress that served us was lovely. However, there was an older gentlemen (who I believe is the owner) who was quite rude and sarcastic towards me on a couple of occasions. I found he had a bad attitude towards me as a customer and to be honest it ruined my experience of the lunch. I won’t be returning based on the way he treats his customers.

Place needs to be refurbished the staff were young they try to help but no idea as what to do they spilt gravy all over my mate and all they could say was sorry food was tough and chewy could not be eaten we mentioned it but all they said was sorry I would not go there again

I was here a few weeks ago I would never go back. Food was very bland and we heard alot of shouting coming from the kitchen where the owner was swearing at the staff.

Visited for the first time yesterday (Sunday 15th), based our experience will definitely be returning. Our table was waited on by the lovely Kirsten. She was polite, professional and possessed excellent knowledge of the menu. The food, when it arrived, was beautifully presented, was piping hot and was quite clearly homemade on the premises, rather than in a some anonymous factory. I’d highly recommend the steak and mushroom pie! 😋 The portions are huge…, unfortunately, this meant no room for the vast selection of desserts. Hopefully be returning again in the not too distant future. Two thumbs up to all of the staff at the fabulous Two Brewers!

An excellent family run friendly pub/restaurant serving delicious traditional food. We were new to the area and looking for something more than the chain pubs serving warmed up pre-prepared food. Highly recommended but keep it to yourself 🙄, I still want to get a table when I call😊

Met with friends here for the first time. Had heard it was good and was not disappointed. Two of us had the pie which was delicious. My other friends had the ribs and they said they were amazing. Some had the apple crumble and I had the Tiramasu. All delicious. Staff very friendly too. Will definitely return as can’t find pub near where I live that does a decent pie. The 30 minute journey will be well worth it!

Stopped by this lovely place. Fantastic Sunday afternoon, warm and welcoming atmosphere. First visit and was serenaded by the Amazing singing Duo 'Exact'. Opera to Pop music, there was some dancing. Uplifting and positive space and staff.

Loverly atmosphere the only downside was the drinks were expensive and the food was warm not hot. Chicken should always be thoroughly heated.

We had lunch h here today, it was great. This is a traditional English pub doing good food. The staff were all welcoming and friendly. Service was good, timely and efficient. Reasonably extensive menu ans specials. I had the curry that was cooked properly and generously portioned. My two friends enjoyed their meals too. We'll be back.

Lovely food, good service. Would have given five stars but listening to the boss being impatient and rude to his young staff wasn't pleasant for us or them. It was embarrassing. Would definitely visit again with the hope that this was a one off occasion as everything else was excellent.

The most amazing meal last night for 16 people. The team could not do enough for us and the food was incredible. I have never had a bad meal here and it is by far the best food in our area, especially the puddings!!

Had a family celebration at the two brewers today, the roast and desserts were excellent as were the friendly, attentive staff. Will definitely be back to try their other menus and would highly recommend it.

The most unfriendly rude owners I have met. I would not recommend the place to anyone and would never go back there again. The Sunday roast - the beef was good but the chicken was like leather!! We did complain and the owners don't know the meaning of customer service. They didn't even have the grace to apologise. We politely said thank you and goodbye. The owner did not even bother to say goodbye back to me.

Impressed with the quality and freshness of the food. Oysters were delicious Will be going again and hope to see this place buzzing with people as it surely deserves it.

Popped in to have a pint. Middle of afternoon. Change through pub. But worth a visit, at a busy time.

Not as good as it used to be. The new people tried hard, but the man was rude to my Mum when she asked about spacing between the tables. The chairs are still uncomfortable, but the food used to be delicious. Now it's average, so not worth rushing back. What a shame.

The restaurant website briefly had a menu displayed last week which has since disappeared. It advertised Fish Friday with four dishes being lobster. This was our favourite restaurant pre Covid for six years under the previous owners so my wife and several of her lady...

Fabulous find this weekend, we'd been a few years ago but now under new management have to say great menu and Fabulous food. Will definitely return, lovely outdoors area as well. Had the Japanese burger and this amazing Chocolate brownie dessert.....stuffed! :-)

I decided to try The Two Brewers having reopened after lockdown under its new management. The food was amazing - everything (particularly the roast lamb with rosemary) was cooked to perfection and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be going back.

This pub has gone from strength to strength with the current publicans, whom the brewery have failed to dissuade from leaving..given the Covid scenario, worsening, I don't blame them at all for taking a rest..since March they have really excelled, but the future is difficult...

Lovely country pub. Haven’t been since before lockdown . Nice to see pub and restaurant open and back in busy must have been very difficult for them. The menu seems to have changed . Arrived hungry but found it difficult to be inspired by the menu as nothing jumped out at me . However the food was very nice well cooked and presented nicely . Good selection of wines on offer . Staff very friendly and helpful. My only concern which had kept me awake during the night is the fact I didn’t feel at easy in the restaurant . In hindsight I should have asked to be moved . As haven’t been out much since lockdown , felt 16 people in the restaurant space was too many . Appreciate the place needs to run and cover it’s costs . 2 tables of 4. A table of 6 and a table of 2. The tables weren’t two metres apart . No windows open . Jus hope no one gets sick

I have just read review of customer criticing Food and customer dress code at two Brewers. Shame on you. Mr Almighty. I can categorically say that Claire AND Geoff and Chef and Staff are the best . They have worked tirelessly in their last six years to provide all their customers with the best. It speaks volumes when the pub is so busy. No wonder you won't be welcomed back and thank the Lord you and your opinions are very much in the minority. How supercilious you are

This was out first time back since Covid. We had a lovely meal and the staff were very attentive and pleasant as usual. We are sad to see the current owners leaving as the two brewers has always been our favourite pub for food good ales and friendly staff. It was a shame that we couldn't chat with the owners as this will be out last visit before they go. I wish them the best of luck for the future.

Lovely lunch with family. First time back since lockdown. Food as good as I remember and staff very helpful and attentive.

Nice enough inside, staff friendly and prompt but my wife was keen to have a traditional Sunday Roast lunch and in that respect we were quite deflated by the experience. Presentation poor, everything piled on top of each other, meat slices either dry (my pork) or not really good/enough (beef). One can understand that good chefs are not easy to find/keep in the semi-rural location but still, could try harder! While dressdown is now de rigeur wherever one goes and people take no pride in their appearance and think that cheap trainers and old jeans/shorts will do it would be nice to see customers that pay more attention to their outfits - and maybe try to keep their body weight under control.

If I could give lower than 1 star then I would. Don't know the name of who I spoke to but a miserable man who was so rude. I will not be stepping foot in this pub nor will I be recommending it to anyone. There are hundreds around, find a different pub where they know how to actually speak to other human beings. Disgusting behaviour and no manners.

First time back to Two Brewers since change of chef. We chose from the light lunch menu, and all very nice. One had a dessert which was lovely too. Staff always very friendly. I requested that they bring back the skate wing,bwhic(was very popular, and this could happen in the. Eat future.

I chose this pub for lunch with my boyfriend to celebrate my 30th birthday and it was absolutely amazing!I'd seen a couple of the negative reviews regarding the menu change but liked how management had dealt with them.. in my opinion the reviews had been written by disgruntled customers that were annoyed about the menu change rather than focusing on the food itself. We had a lovely table next to the fire and the choice of food was fantastic, my standout dish was definitely the arancini balls that I ordered as a starter.. they were exceptional. Afterwards we sat in the snug for a few hours, great comfy armchairs and lots of gin options!We will 100% be back!
