Great food and attentive service. We had the tasting menu which was excellent. Allow plenty of time. Atmosphere was good considering it was midweek.

Just back from a fabulous 5 course surprise tasting menu at Twenty Seven. It was a fantastic meal - every course was delicious. We had the wine flight too and drank some excellent and very reasonably priced wines. The service was very professional and friendly. Only 3 stars on atmosphere because sadly the restaurant was quite empty - but it is a miserable February midweek night. So glad we ventured out to eat such a great meal.

I'll start by saying that we opted for the midweek, reduced price set menu. If we were to have paid full price, I would have been more disappointed and scored lower. The food overall was mixed, but overall of fairly good quality. Only 2 courses did I actively enjoy (hake and venison). The risotto was over cooked, to me. The others had some good elements but didn't really work (salted caramel butter was delicious, but was quite strange with the soup. Basil was very distracting to the lemon dish in my opinion). Again, perhaps due to the "using up ingredients" idea of the menu, 2 citrus desserts seemed too much. It was also frustrating not to know what the courses were, even after we'd arrived. If we'd seen the menu beforehand, maybe we would have reconsidered - but maybe this is the idea? Captive audience? It is also impossible to pick a wine because you don't know what you are getting. Effort had gone into the food though, it just felt like some of the ingredients were quite bluntly put together. The majority of the reduced score was because of service, though. We tried to book via phone over the course of 2 days, and had no answer. We then booked online. When calling to confirm our booking on the night, the lady who answered was a touch rude. When arriving, the same lady didn't make any effort to welcome us at all, and said she'd get someone (front of house manager). I'd also advise you make the front door/entrance clearer and more inviting. We were seated, drinks order taken, and then didn't have our existence acknowledged for 30 minutes. No bread etc. The first course was very small (no problem with that) but it was then a further 35 minutes until the next course. At an hour and 5 minutes in, we'd had just an amuse-bouche. At this point we were getting very hungry, and there was no apology or recognition of the delay. Is this the norm? The whole thing took 3.5 hours with about 30 minutes between each course. Courses would quite often come with almost no word said by the waiting staff - the youngest waitress was most friendly. The food was quite good though, and perhaps if we'd have seen the menu beforehand or decided to go for a la carte, we'd have been happier with it. Then again, we would have been expected to pay double - at which point, I think the quality falls short of the Elephant Restaurant in Torquay for example, which would be the same price. I left feeling quite annoyed, which is unfortunate, given it was meant to be a midweek treat. Would we return? Maybe for a reduced price midweek a la carte.

Not UQUIT what we were expecting! Muscled our way through the crowd at the door queuing for the bakery takeout during a village Christmas market and were pointed upstairs to an empty, and rather chilly (actually cold) dining room. Were given the 'festive' menu; asked about the 2 course lunch advertised on the website - not available, only 3 course festive menu, website 'guy' has not updated the website (not sorry!). Don't make your problem my problem! Interesting, the only other party in the restaurant for lunch were advised on booking that the 2 course menu was available; again, not now available (manager say 'no'!). So we proceeded with the 'festive' menu. Some seriously good food here indeed! Serious 'chefing' with some quality ingredients. Lovely cod, though the sauce was a bit salty. We requested the bill; it was incorrect and grudgingly changed. Enjoyed the food, but not the setting. Obviously this weekend lunch was NOT the time to visit! Unfortunate, as it could have been good!

Totally overrated restaurant. For a Michelin Chef the meal was bad and such small portions in small pastry baskets almost most of the 7 tasting menus ,we paid extra to have scallops but it was 1 scallop n a bit of over salted belly pork which totally spoil the flavour of the scallop. Mark has a Michelin star n he should know better .Too much salt is absolutely a no no .He didn’t like it when we mentioned it !! In fact the became very defensive. Will never make a reservation at 37 again .The taster meal with extra course cost £308 .We shared the wine package. No no to 27 restaurant in Kingsbridge

Imaginative food, which at its best is very good indeed. I had a particularly delicious banana and passion fruit soufflé. But some of the dishes didn't deliver on expectations and the service sometimes struggled. Also the wine list was disappointing for a restaurant with these aspirations, partly because they run out of too many of the wines.

Wow, what a find!! We were staying in Salcombe and had looked for somewhere exceptional to eat to celebrate our 50th birthdays knowing that we are generally underwhelmed with most places that claim to be really good. Jamie's food and his partner's hospitality were truly outstanding. We chose the full tasting menu and were not disappointed. Jamie produced course after course of stunning food with exceptional flavours and presentation. The pace of the meal was well judged and were looked after so well by Jamie's partner and all of their staff. We have eaten in some of the world's very best restaurants and this was right up there with the best. I cannot recommend Twenty Seven highly enough - a must visit and we will certainly be back. The food is excellent. The service is also excellent but they are short staffed like most hospitality venues so it is slower than normal and the finer points are lacking e.g. filling water jugs. However, these are challenging times and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly working under increased pressure so any perceived criticism is really inconsequential - like life in Covid times we all need to be accepting and tolerant when this are not quite 100%,. What a rip off merchant! Ordered the 6 course menu and expectations were high, we were sorely disappointed. Service staff were rough at the edges and completely lacking in finesse, perhaps management should invest in training first. The dishes were plated attractively but totally lacking in flavour, most were too heavy on cream, mayonnaise and pastry! The dessert literally took the biscuit, the tart base was hard as rock and the filing seemed like sickeningly sweet Sunpat peanut butter paste. Do not recommend Twenty Seven by Jamie Rogers!

Enjoyed a fabulous take away box from Jamie on Valentines Day. Having experienced some wonderful meals in the restaurant itself, the bar was already set high, and I knew I was in for a treat. Of course, it goes without saying - that Jamie and his fabulous crew, more than exceeded all expectations, the meal was faultless - the pictures do not do justice to the quality and taste sensations. From start to finish, everything was packaged with such care, attention to detail and love, it was simply stunning. I have tried various, at home boxes, ranging from good home cooking to celebrated chefs and can state hand on heart, that Restaurant 27 was the best, yet, by a country mile. The whole meal was fabulous but standouts were the beetroot appitezer, which was delicious, I am not actually a huge beetroot fan, but this dish was so flavoursome and the various textures were just brilliant. The Crab and lobster tian, was so fresh and sweet - just beautiful and the Fillet steak Rossini was decadent, rich and faultless. Our children joined us for the pudding course and exclaimed that the food was too beautiful to eat - they quickly changed their mind after the first taste. Such a lovely evening and was really appreciated. I can’t recommend this place high enough.

We went just before 2nd lockdown. Most diners were having the al a carte menu but we opted for the taster menu. This might have been a mistake. Our food was okay- the amuse bouche (artichoke and truffle cappuccino) didn’t really wake my taste buds- needed more punch- it reminded me of Horlicks. The accompanying wines came without explanation- eg this is Riesling to go with your crab tart. My main comment would be each course was okay- I’ve had better. but equally, I’ve had worse. There seemed to be something about every dish that wasn’t quite right. All in all, a pleasant evening, with pleasant service (a bit swift if anything!) in pleasant surroundings but nothing Wow! in my opinion.

Without question an exceptionally talented chef offering intelligent creative food very well executed and a delight for the diner. We had a first rate meal and the chefs talents shon with each course. A few reviewers have commented on slow service. We were there on Saturday evening and the place was full. The waiting staff worked well and efficiently but at times the operation creaked. I have no problems with this under present circumstances. This has been one of the hardest years ever for restaurateurs and I am sure Jamie is juggling staff costs against staying in business and it would not surprise me if he is working in very tight staffing levels. So dear reviewers cut him a bit of slack! We need wonderful local restaurants like this and snippy reviews at a time of crisis for the hospitality industry are just lacking in understanding.

Like several other reviews we experienced poor service. I had heard about Jamie on our local radio station which was very effusive in it’s praise. Our friends (who had travelled down from London) wanted to treat us so I suggested Jamie’s (I’d heard fulsome praise of Jamie’s on a local radio programme recently) which, after they had checked the reviews, was duly booked despite it being a 50 minute drive for us.We arrived 15 mins early but that wasn’t a problem, after a quick hand wash we were shown to our upstairs table. Given the current situation I was surprised how close our table was to our neighbouring tables and that none of the staff were wearing face coverings (we ate in Pierre’s in Plymouth 2 nights before and all staff wore face coverings and tables were much further apart).Menus were provided quickly, then after a bit of a wait drinks and dishes were ordered, drinks arrived promptly along with the sourdough, the amuse bouche also arrived quite quickly and was excellent. It then seemed an age before our starters turned up although they were again excellent in terms of presentation and taste. Then the wait began, drinks were finished the wine was getting low despite only 2 drinking. 2 hours after we arrived still no main course which led to one of our friends querying when we could expect our meals, we got back a specific 7 minutes but he wasn’t happy about this so asked to speak to the manager who came over and apologised and said it would be a further 5 mins. Unfortunately by this time what should have been a lovely way to say thank you had been spoilt and we chose to call it a day and leave.Other disappointing aspects were a table of two who came in after us were well into their mains courses by the time we left and another table who ordered shortly before us were on their desserts. Despite the lengthy wait at no time did any member of the front of house team come to our table to explain why it was taking over 2 hours to get our main, the assumption can only be that this is acceptable at Jamie’s (I did see a recent Facebook post that proudly declared how busy they had been one night with the last dish going out after 11pm so perhaps having a lot of covers is far more important than a timely service). The food in terms of presentation and quality were very much in line with the reputation for fine dining but as others have mentioned the customer experience does not begin and end just with the food, service and ambiance are equally as important and I think both of these were lacking for us, we experienced unacceptably slow service and there appeared to be no concession to the current situation other than a hand wash on arrival and a tube of hand wash on the table, I was certainly closer than 1.5m to our nearest neighbouring table. The impression I left with was a restaurant that can and does produce as much fine food as it can but don’t seemed concerned about any other aspect of creating a great experience for their customers, very disappointed with Jamie and staff.

We were recommended this restaurant by friends of ours who have holidayed in the area previously and we were not disappointed. The ambience is lovely and the staff are incredibly friendly upon arrival. One thing that was so pleasing to us was that we were welcomed even with our 5 month old daughter. We always enjoyed eating out before having a baby but we’ve found that not all restaurants are so accommodating when you have a little one in tow sadly. The service couldn’t be faulted and I was kindly recommended a wine to suit my main, again this was a big tick for me as not all restaurant staff know their products! The food was fab, a real taste explosion; they were fully booked the night we were there but the waiting times weren’t too long at all. Our only regret was that one of us was driving so the next time we visit this restaurant, we plan to have a babysitter so we can try the taster menu paired with the wine!

Our first time at the restaurant tonight, was not disappointed. Food, atmosphere and service was outstanding. I cannot recommend this gem of a restaurant enough. This was the first night of our holiday and couldn’t have ate anywhere nicer. The photos speak for themselves...

We had the tasting menu with a flight of wine. The food was excellent: it looked beautiful and had an interesting mix of flavours and textures. The service was relaxed but professional. It was a pity that they’d run out of dessert wine to compliment the final course and the replacement passion fruit cocktail was not an ideal replacement, but overall this was a superb meal.

Our last holiday night & we opted for the excellent takeaway... treated ourselves to fish & chips 27 style which was a real treat.. but tbh the starters & desserts were more than a match for the mains ... only wished we’d booked a table in the restaurant!‍♂️.. definitely on our reasons to return list Thanks & all the best for the rest of a crazy 2020

Excellent food, service and setting. We would have chosen the tasting menu, but out of 6 courses 2 were very sweet looking deserts and I do not eat sugar. They could not offer any alternative, i.e. these or another savoury dish, so sadly we had to decline.

The restaurant looks really cool and had a great vibe as soon as we walked in. We were put on a table that was too small but as soon as we mentioned it they immediately cleared another table and moved us. Our first impression was the menu wasn’t extensive, however we all found something that we fancied. Oh my god the food was outstanding. I think focusing on a smaller number of dishes and making them taste as good as they do is definitely something they should continue to do. Everything, was beautifully presented and looked nearly looked as good as it tasted. All dishes where fantastic, but the winners of the night was the sea bass and the millionaires chips from the lobster dish. Didn’t expect to get excited about a bowl of chips. It was a little on the pricy side, but you know what, for food if this quality it’s worth the money. We would 100% recommend it.

It is a lovely restaurant, immaculately presented with excellent, efficient service but it is expensive. The bass was beautiful and I would highly recommend, the foie gras starter rather more ordinary and not what I was expecting, and the puddings were pleasing. Intricate, sophisticated cookery but I just felt something was missing. It was a lovely evening, thanks to Chef and staff.

There was chaos the evening we came, my birthday the 2nd September, apparently they had an absent chef. However the staff though rushed off their feet managed admirably especially the front of house manager. Our food was exquisite especially the sea bass which is often very boring and rarely truly fresh, it was perfect. We were also very grateful for a free drink in recompense for a seat right by the door especially as we had booked well in advance but as I said all resolved kindly.

I had booked 27 well in advance, paid a £20 deposit and received and email saying “We have a grace period of 5 mins. Please call if you are running later than 5 mins...” the email went on to say “Your table will be booked for 1 hours 30 minutes for parties of up to 2...”. So with that email in mind we arrived just before our time of 7.30! We were shown to a table on the first floor laid from 3 people - we said we are only two and was assured this was the right table only to be asked to move 5 minutes later. It was 20 minutes before our drinks order was taken and just over an hour before our first course turned up - foie gras and crab tartlet - both looked great and were delicious. Our main courses arrived 40 mins later (we both had the lamb cutlets) and the whole meal was super, unusual flavour combinations that really worked. But we had almost lost the will to live and we were not the only ones to have been kept waiting. We finally left just after 10 o’clock (2 hours 30 mins) - to be fair Jamie did send two complimentary side dishes with our main meal and did take the cost of deserts off the final bill but the long wait for drinks and food really took the edge off the whole evening. 27 is not cheap, when you are paying top prices for food you expect top service too. Would have marked exellent had the service been up to it. Covid-19 - Hand anti-bac on each table not at the front door. Staff were not wearing masks and the resturant was full with not much space between tables however diners were back to back with the next table which we thought was just about ok.I would highly recommend the food but would I go there again and risk the service? Not sure.

Booked and paid a deposit in advance and mentioned listed Dine membership on arrival which attracts a discount. Planned to have the tasting menu with potential spend of £150 for a couple. Jamie sent a message via waitress that he was no longer in the Dine membership scheme with no further explanation; this despite his restaurant being currently listed on the Dine membership app. Would have appreciated some small gesture, or further explanation, but no, nothing was going to happen. The waitress I spoke to said in her opinion the discount should be honored, but there was nothing she could do about it as it was totally Jamie's decision. She was obviously embarrassed and uncomfortable. On principle we decided to leave. Jamie obviously cares about his food which I'm sure is excellent, but perhaps his customer facing skills are not so good? On a positive note, at least we got our deposit refunded. On behalf of Jamie, I have taken the trouble to report this to Dine, who hopefully will remove his apparent membership in their scheme so that other customers are not misled.

Went back for a second visit in two weeks and, again, the food was superb. Jamie puts some very interesting flavours together and they work! Cannot fault the food, or the staff - all girls, all friendly and very welcoming. The music playlist is the most eclectic I’ve ever heard - one minute jazz, then soul, then dance music. Like the food, it works! One little niggle - last night there was a young boy on the table next to us. He became very bored whilst mum and her friend worked their way through the six course tasting menu. He was throwing himself over the chair as though swimming, not sitting still, and being generally very distracting. Apparently he was Jamie’s son, which explained why the staff were all so tolerant of him I suspect. Not the child’s fault, but maybe mum could have brought something to entertain him? For some reason, last night the service was s.l.o.w. We were there for over three hours. The restaurant was full, which speaks volumes for the food, and it’s a small kitchen sending out brilliantly presented meals and there were three more tables than on our last visit. Maybe if Jamie Junior hadn’t been so distracting we wouldn’t have noticed the time it took. That said, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant and we will certainly pay another visit if we return to Kingsbridge

Not as good as we were hoping. Seemed a bit steep to charge £15 for 2 scallops. When I booked was asked if any dietary requirements and I informed I was gluten free. When we came to order I asked if there was any gluten free bread and the waitress said no. Not much point asking if any dietary requirements if you're not going to accommodate.

We had a lovely Tasting meal but were very disappointed by the portion. Our starter of scallops were two for £15 and our half of lobster £35 was not much bigger than a prawn and definitely not the 90mm legal landed lobsters we have eaten before. The staff were lovely but we waited just over an hour between our starter and main course. All tasted lovely but we felt a bit short changed on the scallops and lobster.

Superb from start to finish. Everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. We had the scallops to start, followed by the lobster and the lamb for mains. The pineapple tart tatin with the Devon blue was an imaginative touch that works. The milk chocolate ganache with raspberry was a chocolate lover’s treat - divine. Service is friendly and unobtrusive. Lovely ambience created by the soft lighting and great background music. We’ll be going back.

Wow! Hats off to you, Chef Jamie Lee Burnard. I’ve just had the most amazing meal at Twenty_seven by Jamie Rogers. Just as I thought it would be unlikely I was ever going to experience the fine dining and creativity of a chef to match the Treby Arms at its peak, up pops this fella. He’s been storming through the pandemic, from day one (we were booked in for my Mum’s birthday the first day of Lockdown and he rose to the occasion and organised takeaways and deliveries the very next day.) Since then he’s been feeding people to a very high standard - the most fancy takeaway I’ve ever had anyway - and to finally sit at one of his tables and dine was fantastic. All of the front of house staff were amazing, but our dedicated server, Emily, was exemplary and most charming. The decor and ambience were spot on. And the food, sublime. From the complimentary appetiser of sweetcorn velouté (which actually tasted subtly like a delicate mushroom soup) with coconut foam, to the scallops and spiced pork cheek, to the lobster Thermidor that I was in such a hurry to eat the photo I took was blurry (yes, I am one of those 'Facebook food photographers' #sorrynotsorry. Then finally the pineapple tarte tatin with blue cheese - ‘like cheese and pineapple on a stick’ (not at all, but you can imagine the inspiration!)The mojito and the wine were fantabulous too.I’ve had a glorious day. The weather wasn’t going to spoil it (not the first rainy birthday I’ve had, won’t be the last.) Really special times with my Marmee.

I reviewed this restaurant two years ago, which is when we last visited, and at that time I gave it 4*. What let it down most then was the front of house service, but this seems to now have been sorted; the staff were professional, helpful, engaging and extremely pleasant. The food was absolutely superb, I would say comfortably at Michelin 1* level, and for a small town like Kingsbridge this is a real achievement. The only dish that our party did not enjoy was the pineapple tarte tatin with grated cheese, a marmite dish according to the waitress but one to select with caution as it can leave a disappointing taste in the mouth if it turns out it is not your thing. However, my and my daughter’s meals were brilliant from start to finish; my wife’s the same except for the dessert. Well done!

I managed to book a table here, for a last minute 50th celebration treat. I mentioned to the lovely lady, confirming our booking that it was for my sister’s 50th and her celebrations had all been put on hold. As we arrived at the restaurant, Amelie, warmly welcomed us, introduced herself, and wished my sister a Happy Birthday, she then took us to our table, and we were really touched to find out that they had taken the trouble to source some 50th Birthday balloons . After a little pondering, we decided to go with the a la Carte menu although the tasting menu also looked fabulous. Our starters were gorgeous, the scallops possibly the best I have ever tried, we both choose the lobster for main course and it was truly sensational, for pudding we couldn’t decide as it all sounded great, we were quite full, so I asked Anna, if she could she could just surprise us - the desert plate that arrived was out of this world and every mouthful we enjoyed was bursting with flavour. It was a truly magical evening, wonderful ambience, reassuring, also, to see good Covid measures in place, including individual hand sanitizers on each table and exquisite fresh locally sourced food, complemented by a simple but well structured wine list which ticked all the boxes. I would highly recommend a visit here and judging from the sighs of satisfaction and happy faces from the other diners, I don’t think we are alone. Certainly, the friends who have taken our recommendations on board and have had the opportunity to dine here, have reported back to me with huge thanks - indeed one couple recently said it was the highlight of their holiday. I am very much looking forward to returning again.

Visited your restaurant whilst on a week's break in the area.... Had reserved a table few weeks prior and had paid the £20 deposit requested to secure booking. Shown upstairs on arrival and immediately commented it was very hot... Told by waitress that they were aware it was hot upstairs but windows were open and they didn't have any fans or tables free downstairs where it was cooler. We were first to be seated and everyone who followed of us also complained of the sweltering heat. Customers who appeared to be known to staff were moved to window tables or found seats downstairs! So Mr Rogers in summary the food we could manage to eat in the uncomfortable heat were lovely and I cannot fault the taste.. Quality or presentation of the food or the service BUT You REALLY need to invest in some fans if the building is not able to accommodate air con as we would have happily stayed and had more food and drinks but it was so stifling we couldn't wait to get out of there!

We had the tasting menu with matching drinks and on the whole the taste was fantastic. We would have preferred a larger main course and a lighter pre pudding. As it was, the end of the meal ended up being quite heavy. In addition we waited quite a long time for the main course and the upper floor of the restaurant was unbelievably hot. Hence only 3 stars.

An attractive, contemporary restaurant with an interesting menu that offers, amongst other things, dishes that reflect its proximity to the sea. We had been looking forward to sampling some of the exciting sounding seafood dishes on offer but were somewhat disappointed with what was served. Starters were small but tasty; my seafood curry was neither. The management of this place does not take kindly to adverse criticism, as can be seen by its responses to other adverse reviews. So, I have removed my original critical review, which met with an unsympathetic response that included disappointment that we had asked for tap water instead of wine or other drinks.
