Troy in Cardiff

Very disappointed. Went out for my husbands birthday, portions were tapas sizes and very over priced. Also, we struggled to get past a large group of people that were just left looking clueless in the doorway. Also, was very plain. Not much flavour. Do not recommend at all and we will not be returning.

Simple, clean food with some stunning flavours. Watch your food be barbecued and get your taste buds ready...

This has got to be the best Mediterranean restaurant in Cardiff. To be honest, I compare Mediterranean restraints wherever I go in the world to it. The food is all cooked in front of you on a charcoal barber. Their meat marinades are legendary. You must try their signature chicken wings with rice, salad and toasted Turkish bread with the most amazing red pepper and mild chilli sauce. I’ve asked , Ersan the owner, for the receipt but has says he would have kill me before I leave. Make no mistake, Nothing else compares in all of Wales, I know because I’ve tried them all. Enjoy.

So not for vegetarians . My meal was basically melted cheese . . I ordered a vegetable mousaka , no veggie to be found just melted cheese with rice . A carb fat overload , you walk in and all you can see is raw meat so I should have walked out then

I think this is the friendliest and most authentic Turkish restaurant in Cardiff. From the hot coals to the freshly prepared dishes. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Amazing, tasty, fresh food. Lots on the menu to chose from. We could see our food being cooked on the grill and fresh bread in the clay over. Service was nice and quick, no issues at all. Can’t wait to return.

First time at Troy Meze Bar. Went with friend. Welcoming greeting and shown to a large table while we waited for couple to finish and our table prepared. Great aroma of food grilling. Food freshly cooked to order. Lovely atmosphere. The mixed grill and salad was delicious accompanied by a lovely red wine. We would definitely go again. Highly reccomend this place.

Really enjoyed our visit to Troy, we were not sure what to expect when sitting upstairs in the new bar but the food and drinks we fantastic. Some reviews suggested to order sides as main don't come with anything, but all mains came with plenty of rice, salad and dips. We shared 3 meze platters and 2 mixed grills between 4 of us with some extra fries and we were shocked with how much food there was, they gave complimentary dips and bread with main meals and even though we technically ordered 2 mains between 4 they still brought full portions of bread. We got there just in time for happy hour before 7pm and ordered cocktails each. We were again pleasantly surprised with the waiter came over at 7 and asked if we wanted to get more cocktails before the offer ended. He could have easily waited and we may have ordered at full price. They were very busy downstairs as they are most weekends, the bar was a nice quieter setting for us. We went expecting it being a quick and casual kebab/grill house dining setting but were really surprised at the level of service and quality of the cocktail/bar menu

Went to Troy for Father’s Day with my wife and son, booked a table for 2pm turned up on time no table ready we were told to wait outside, 15 minutes later nobody had come to speak to us so my wife went back in and asked what was going on, we were then taken to a table upstairs in a area that wasn’t open. We sat on the terrace which was ok actually, starters were cheap but I think the calamari was frozen ( 99% sure ) I had 4 tiny falafal … I then ordered a mixed grill £14.50 when it arrived it was tiny, fries had to be ordered separate at a cost. Mixed grill was missing some items so I brought this to the waiters attention he then turned up with some chicken shish pieces, was ok but compared to other grill houses In cardiff this is the worse experience I’ve had. Bill came to £70 we were all still hungry when we left, customer service is non existent here !!!

Sadly disappointed, Have eaten here several times with my family and the last 2 occasions the portions of chicken have become so small and was still Hungary after the meal. Satay on City rd Jane much larger portions also free apple tea and a piece of baklava. There are other restaurants also in the area which give complimentary tea And baklava and larger portions. Sorry, we are paying good money for little in return . I have many friends who feel the same and won’t be returning.

Wellfield Road is a trendy/eclectic area with lots of bars, coffee shops and independent businesses; it's the sort of area where I would spend a lot of my leisure time if I lived locally. We had a meal out following a sales meeting; we'd reserved the upstairs dining area as there were about 15 - 20 of us in total. The plan was that we were having a buffet but when we got to the restaurant, they hadn't factored this in and we all had to order off the menu instead. The food was OK, it certainly wasn't great but neither was it terrible; I suppose I'd say it was unremarkable overall. I am fine with spicy food, but one of the dips that came with my (shared) starter gave me terrible heartburn and acid all night, although the dip itself wasn't particularly spicy/hot

Place does not look clean as the usual standard of the Turkish restaurants. Food portion is vey small. Lamb shish is hard. Salad is tasteless. Never again

I used to be a regular at Troy - tasty food, good portions and great atmosphere. My last visit was a group of 6 of us, we asked for mixed meze to start and a shared mixed grill for main course. We were each charged £20 per main course, even though we could have gotten the standard mixed grill on the menu for £16.50. The food was as nice as always, however the portions are now significantly smaller, we left the restaurant hungry. We were also seated in the new upstairs earlier, which lacked atmosphere. I don’t think the classical music helped. Will not be returning - far better options on City Road that are just as good, far cheaper, with bigger portions.

Covid central. Avoid at this time. Despite booking the restaurant was packed. The owner tried to get us to sit at the back by the toilet. No social distancing, no masks, customers all on top of each other and very poor service. I’m sure when and if this gets back to normal it might be a nice place to visit but with the owners pack em in style then it’s time to avoid.

There were 5 of us standing outside waiting to enter the restaurant. The staff denied us entry at 8 30pm stating no more seats even though they close 11pm. There were 5 persons ahead of us who got entry who were white coloured. We then rang stating we are Mr Jones wanting a table of 5 people. Ordered a meal and asked for a small amount of yoghurt dip (cacik) instead of the standard mayo and chilli pots. The owner refused saying cacik is a side dish and that's how he makes his money, then said oh ok but I mustn't tell anyone. Handed over £10 and waited. When the meal was ready, the owner spoke to a staff member and it seemed to me that he called me curse word in Turkish. I've spent two decades around Turkish speakers. I very politely asked the owner if he had just referred to me in insulting terms. He exploded, saying he is Kurdish not Turkish, then screamed the same insult at me, this time in English, told me he would call the police and 'threatened' to bar me from the restaurant. The other staff present said nothing. I tried to hand over the food and asked for my money back. He refused, continuing to abuse me. I left and gave the food to the first Street person I came across who wanted to eat.

Been here 4/5 times, never dissapointed, good quality food, friendly staff, good selections on the menu. House wines pretty good too, well worth a visit if your in wellfield road.

Ocho de nosotros visitamos para celebrar 2 cumpleaños el domingo a la hora del almuerzo y, una vez más, tuvimos un gran servicio, una comida encantadora. El servicio es realmente amable y servicial y nuestros entrantes llegaron rápidamente (además de aceitunas y pan gratis). Los platos principales también se sirvieron rápidamente y todos estaban muy calientes y perfectamente cocinados. Hemos estado aquí al menos 4 veces y mi pareja siempre tiene la lubina ya que está perfectamente preparada. Los tavuk shish (brochetas de pollo) son suculentos y tiernos, así que son los favoritos de mi hija. Soy vegetariano y hay muchas opciones en el meze frío y caliente: me encanta todo lo que he pedido, aunque la muska boregi (como pequeñas samosas rellenas de queso feta y perejil derretidos) son probablemente las mejores que he probado en mi vida. Popped in before going on to the Globe. My wife and I had lamb and mushroom skewers, daughter had Falafel. Really good, prompt friendly service. Enjoyed and will be back.

Second visit just as good as the first. Lots of choices available, food simple but executed v well. Love that you can check out the meat counter when you walk through and can actually seek them cooking your food in front of you.

Plentiful amounts of tasty, freshly cooked, good quality Mediterranean style food. Spotlessly clean place with friendly, helpful staff. Wasn’t cheap but didn’t break the bank either. Can definitely recommend. Very popular so booking advised.

While walking and staying in the Brecon beacons we made a 40 mile round trip to this place. I had the mixed grill and was not disappointed. The food and service were excellent and I would recommend this place to anyone local or travelling into the area looking for a great meal and value for money

We ate here last Friday for the first time since Troy moved from City Road to Wellfield Road.

Ordered takeaway for my sons birthday but when arrived home the rice was missing, bread cold and prawn dish given was starter and not main. Called to complain and were able to collect remainder of order but in the meantime rest of meal was cold. The person I spoke to about it was quite rude and I don’t think it was particularly good value for money or very nice. Shame. Went there because of previous good reviews but won’t go back.

We went on a week day, still was very busy but they still managed to fit us in. We ordered a couple of starters, they were very tasty. For main courses we had a troy special and a chicken shish, which was amazing. The value of money is also great. The staff work very hard, but are very polite and welcoming. Yo, mi esposo y mi hijo de 2 años decidimos probar este lugar. Una vez que llegamos, nos quedamos alrededor de 5 minutos y cuando un miembro del personal vino al bar, le preguntamos si la comida era Halal y ella respondió: "¿Qué significa halal? ". Una vez que finalmente descubrimos el taco de comida halal, alguien tardó otros 5 minutos en sentarnos. Mi hijo estaba en su silla de paseo y esto parecía ser un problema. La porción de comida era muy pequeña, habíamos pedido una parrillada mixta y el personal parecía muy irritable como si no fuéramos bienvenidos allí. No volveremos y no es apto para niños / niños pequeños.

It used to be one of our favourite place to eat when it was in city road. After it moved to Wellfield road it’s not the same .. ordered the Troy special and a sheesh kebab was very dry. Both were a bit salty and portion size reduced and the place...it’s just not the same vibe. The place was crowded and looked busy so it could just be ‘we went on a bad day’ but I could only rate what’s on my plate and how it tasted.

Went here on a Saturday night with a group of 6. Table booked for 8.30pm, we were seated immediately despite the resteraunt being full. The food was very tasty and reasonable portions. Our waitress was very polite and worked hard (reflected in the tip we left). All in all very good.

We were looking forward to coming to this restaurant and quite frankly it was a big disappointment. We booked a table for 5 and came on time but had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. We then ordered sharing platters and were told it’s £17 per head for a platter which is ridiculous given that La Shish, Lilo and Saray on city road do amazing sharing platters and don’t charge per head for it (and they’re much nicer too!) We ended up with a bill of £90 in the end which was a rip off for the amount of food we had. The main guy who runs the place has a short temper on him and got annoyed with my relative for complaining about a drink they had. Service was slow. Not coming again - you are better off going to a real Turkish restaurant which is Saray on city road!

I had heard a lot about this place and visited on a Sunday evening when we though5 we would easily get a table but it was packed. We were lucky and a table became free soon after we arrived.

Will not be going back! After being a happy customer of the city road restaurant, I have visited the new Wellfield Rd restaurant a few time and also obtained take away I live very near by. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed every time and the place seems to have lost the City Rd charm it once had. The food is still tasty but the portions are now much smaller. The biggest disappointment is the service, the staff appear irritated that you are there. My friend and I were completely ignored for about 5 minutes when we first walked in and were left stood at the bar like spare parts. Even just a nod of the head would have sufficed. Then the staff couldn’t find that table that I had booked for 6.45pm (they had written my name down wrong). Then the man very rudely told my friend and I off for being late, which we weren’t. I used to always recommend this place as one of the best in Cardiff but after this hostile interaction, I shalln’t be going back. We went to Chai St instead (bit further down) and had a lovely thali and incredible service.

Once again a fantastic meal... friendly relaxed atmosphere and food to die for... from the meze plate with warm home baked bread.. melt in the mouth lamb chops.. and beautiful succulent char grilled chicken.. I honestly couldn't fault it ❤❤❤

A table of 7 of us went on a Sunday night and the owner cooked as all a mixed meal with some extra quails. The bread is so tasty. A waitress has a fabulously unique sense of humour which we got. We really liked Troy when it was on City Road so decided to give Wellfiekd Road a go. Unfortunately, overall a very poor experience. We waited 20 minutes and no-one came for our order so we had to ask and the waitress begrudgingly took our order. Went there for dinner with my boyfriend on a Friday. The place was packed and very loud (combination of people shouting and loud music with vocals..). The owner was friendly, but the female waitresses were looking tired and as if they were annoyed to be there. That made me feel not welcome. The meze selection for 2 was ok, but nothing noteworthy. The mains (meat dishes) were very tasty and filling, but the portions looked poor (so if your plan is to impress someone it is probably not ideal. However it is perfect if you are hungry and want tasty meat).
