Travellers Rest in Caerphilly

Visited with my wife this weekend and had the most pleasant experience, food was amazing and brought out in a timely manner and I can’t recommend the pork belly enough! We had the best service from Lisa and can’t wait to return, she was efficient and we would want her as our waitress again next time. Thanks Lisa and chefs for a 10/10 dining experience.

Darren was our server who went above and beyond serving us - the food was good.

We felt relaxed and happy with the wide variety of delicious meals that the menu contained. Our waitress Tegan Was very knowledgeable of all the different dishes and nothing was too much trouble, she is a great ambassador for the hospitality industry. We enjoyed our meal very much and will be back soon.

We try and visit at least once a week. The open fire is so inviting and the staff and food incredible! Darren you always greet us with a smile and a warm welcome! Nothing is too much trouble for you - thank you for always taking such good care of us…..not to mention the time I had an asthma attack, you were great. See you Saturday LOL

By far the worst Sunday lunch experience I’ve ever had in a pub. First time I’ve left a meal half way through to go somewhere else. Service was slow and waitress was very inattentive. 20+ minute wait for two drinks to the point the hot starter arrived before the two drinks. What can I say about the Roast dinners. Veggies were cold, potatoes were cold, Yorkshire puddings were stone cold. Quality of the chicken and beef resembled that of a school dinner. No apology or consideration from staff. All very apathetic. I don’t normally leave reviews because any restaurant or pub could have a bad day, but the service and food we received were exceptionally bad. Will definitely not attend again nor would I recommend. There are to many other decent pubs in the locality.

Went here for lunch with a few friends. Such a nice place to go. Food was amazing. Drinks were good prices and good choices. Our waitress Lisa was great while we were there. Couldn't be anymore helpful towards us and made our stay more enjoyable

Went there with the family tonight had some lovely mini chorizo sausages then fish and chips with lovely service from Tiegan.

Went here for drinks and ended up having food too. We were greeted at the bar by a young man named Ben who was extremely pleasant, helpful and attentive, absolute 5 star service! He sorted out an iPad for us to view the gluten free options and nothing was too much trouble for him and the other staff during our visit. Food was very good and we would highly recommend this place based on overall service. Thanks

The staff were absolutely lovely and the food was delicious. I saw a few interactions of staff being very sweet with the various children dotted about too (Easter weekend). It was a great atmosphere.

We really enjoyed our food, gammon chop, ultimate burger, and pie of the day (chicken). It is a lovely pub/ resturant. Our server Lisa was very welcoming and friendly. We will definitely come back

First we arrived and loved the narrow room with the roaring fire, greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our table by Lisa, she was friendly and chatty. Food was very tasty. Lisa recommended the banana pudding and it was so good, made by (either Jordan, john or James. Liam on the bar was attentive with bringing our drinks.

Great food and friendly staff. Liam, lisa and teigan all took there time to chat with us and food was delicous and cooked by becky, rhys and jordan.

We normally stop off here for a midday break, 3-4 times a month, however, we also have the occasional meal. Great place, with open fires. Such a lovely bunch of people work here, in particular Darren. Food is always good and menu changes regularly. It is a little on the pricey side but quality of food is worth it.

Found this cozy inn (or maybe it's more of a pub?) just a short drive from Cardiff. The food is absolutely amazing, and they've got a nice selection of beers. Service can be a tad slow, but that's hardly an issue. You're not here for a quick pint anyway; it's all about kicking back and enjoying your time

After hearing some good feedback from friends we decided to book here for our family meal. Unfortunately we left very disappointed. Service- we would like staff to check audience before using sarcasm, to anyone else on that table it would have been fine however when we have an autistic family member who does not understand sarcasm and is hard of hearing it was very difficult to try and explain the waiters sarcasm each time. Time keeping- we sat down, ordered within a nice timeframe as the pub was not busy busy however food took over an hour to come to our table. Presentation- food looked excellent on the plates, each one of us commented on the appearance of how each dish was presented. Food- very poor! This was a total disappointment. Stone base pizza is not stone based and a pizza from Asda knocks spots off the one you gave is. Steak was not worth £30, it was a poor cut of meat. Chicken was dry and not very flavoursome. Price- not worth for the quality of food. Not all dishes were disappointing however the quality and flavour was not there.

A great place to relax and eat, food fabulous, staff so friendly and accommodating, was a bit cold where we sat so asked to move and no problem with that. Lisa was more than helpful.

We had a wonderful breakfast at the Travellers this morning. Freshly prepared, my poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend people try here for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday, well worth a visit.

Dinner date with my partner, we had the duo of lamb and fish and chips and it was amazing. The best lamb I've ever had, cooked to perfection. Lisa our server was great, chatty and recommended some dishes for us to try when we return

Was served by Darren who was very helpful and attentive without being intrusive, he was very chatty and helpful. We had Moroccan skewers with sides which were stunning, followed by mini choc brownie with ice-cream and a coffee,, fantastic way to end the meal.

Not the best! Haven't been here for many, many years and both my sister and I were disappointed. In fact, I'm not sure I would even want to go back tbh. Only went for a catch up lunch. Service was very slow and we asked for the lunchtime menu and the two course option. We asked simply for the panang curry (with the added option of grilled chicken for an extra £3). However, the girl couldn't seem to order that on their new tablet as the curry didn't have the chicken option on it. It stated tgst it was vegetarian (as per the menu mind, despite offering chicken as an extra). She had to go away to sort it out. Then we wanted to order a simple coffee and pudding, but was told she'd have to come back for that. The curry itself was tasty enough but a bit pricey for what it was. We had to wait some time for our coffees, which didn't come with the mini pudding. The pudding came after we had finished our coffees and it was almost cold (but tasty nonetheless). If we had wanted separate coffee and pudding there was an option to have that of course! The place itself is lovely. There was a lovely feel to it with an open fire going. The staff were polite enough too. Not chit chatty, but polite. So, it was a shame really. we were left a bit deflated and disappointed with this experience and hoped for a better catch up. Not much else to say really.

Recently done up, cosy vibe, excellent service , has pub food classics to choose from and Mediterranean twist dishes in addition to the menu, selection of beverages also extensive but pricey apart from your regular wines and beers.

Went for the Sunday roast and it was delicious! We both went for the trio, which was turkey, pork and beef - all well cooked, served with plenty of vegetables, roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and as much gravy as you want. Followed it up with dessert of the banofee choux bun and the chocolate brownie, which were both amazing.

We have only praise. First of all the serving staff were exceptionally helpful, kind and flexible. Our table was in a lovely position. All of the food on the mother's day menu was fantastic! We had a variety of items from the menu, we were never rushed, and you could taste the quality in the ingredients. Arrived for our booking just after 11am due to slow traffic. Was warmly welcomed by our waitress Mari! We were given time (just enough) to first order drinks and then again to order our food. Mari recommended the full English breakfast which she got spot on! Both breakfasts were hot and very delicious, the orange juices were cold and the hot chocolate (for my daughter) and breakfast tea (for me) were both great too. Just to add, there’s was a nice little extra touch of having a small cube of flapjack with each hot drink too! Please thank Abbey the chef for delivering a very appetising and delicious breakfast! Food very good definitely a notch up from 'pub grub'. Booked for 7.15 and they only had turkey left as a sunday roast option. Not a problem , my ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce was very tasty!

Service was poor towards end of service where a whole dessert order was missed. Staff were then unable to call us a taxi. When I returned to the bar to wait for a second taxi, I was moved from a table in case it was booked. Very poor customer service I'm afraid.

Signature burger had been changed on my previous visit but I’m delighted to say it was back to its previous high quality on this visit. Great atmosphere and superb service. Excellent food.

Service was excellent throughout. The table allocated was in a good position. Cleanliness very good. We enjoyed the meal: it was served reasonably quickly, and was hot and tasty. The staff were polite and friendly, without being overly attentive as in some other restaurants.

Service was very slow and there didn’t seem to be sufficient staff to cover the number of guests during this period. The manager on duty was very pleasant and did apologise but our waitress was almost non-existent once the orders had been taken. One of the meals we ordered (fish and chips) was not upto the standard we’ve had previously as there was too much salt sprinkled on the fish and the triple cooked chips were soggy rather than crispy, which was a disappointment. In addition, the crème brûlée was rather bland and again, a little disappointing. The other meals were fine, it was just a shame that there was some room for improvement.

Fantastic food and service. Really enjoyed the time there and in the summer the beer garden is very good. Shame about the dog friendly atmosphere, quite often you'll get your way blocked by dogs that people are seemingly unwilling to train along with frequent barking ruining the atmosphere.

we were very disappointed with our meals. My initial request from the menu was not available which I was very annoyed about. The waitress said that I would have to wait 20 minutes or so if I wanted my initial request. Reluctantly I ordered fish and chips. I must say, the fish was awful. The batter was so crispy that it was almost impossible to break in places. The fish was totally tasteless. Very disappointing!! The other 2 members of my party ordered sea bass which itself was 'ok', but the accompanying potatoes were undercooked and the vegetables were overcooked. Again, very disappointing. To be totally honest, considering I paid nearly £80, I feel within my rights to expect better quality service and standard of food. I just wish I had complained at the time to the waitress. As a result, I would be reluctant to return to the Travellers Rest any time soon.

Booked a table this evening, couldn't believe how cold it was inside. Was sat by the kitchen to start and asked to move because it was so cold. Moved us up the back up the stairs, same again radiator was cold and cold in the room so sat the whole time in my down jacket. Not a cold person normally work outside for a living! most expensive steak was tasteless i rather go and get a £3 steak it will have flavour i wanted to cancel mains before they came out they said they cant i said i dont want them and im going to leave and just pay the starters and drink and they said they will call the police because they said the good was about done but still took 20 to 30mins so not only didnt they let me cancel they lied about the food being nearly done and threatened to call the police so was forced to pay the bill by your staff the old woman there then called me claiming it was theft if we didnt pay but by law if the mains havent came to the table its not theft its a civil matter i did offer to pay for the starters and drinks which was already on the table but they was trying to say the mains have to be paid which is incorrect as its not theft untill the mains come and we started to eat the mains he tried to claim i was going to walk out without paying for drinks and starters but i said ill pay them but not the mains as they havent even same out yet i was trying to explain the reason for canceling and wanted to leave due to a mental health breakdown but rude old woman staff spoke over me

Visited Friday around 2pm, place was almost empty, but soon filled up quickly with mostly pensioners. Of our 3 meals, 2 were cold & uneatable when served, drinks also took ages to arrive. We didn't have time to send food back - we'd wasted too much time waiting for the order - and wait for it be cooked, so it was a wasted afternoon for us. Disappointing.
