Trattoria Calabrese in Kingston upon Thames

Our favourite Italian in London and it’s surroundings. Amazing food and it has kids menu, decent portions, great chef, family feel- you can find it all there. I can only advise to print out some pictures and keep crayons to attract more families with small kids.

The food wasnt good but it wasn't the worst either. The risotto we ate had a chicken stock taste and the pizza was just 'meh' if u know what I mean. However, the calamari was splendid. We also ate the linguine gamberoni, which had seafood and a pretty good tomato sauce. Despite all the fabulous reviews and ratings, it wasn't the best Italian restaurant I've ever been to, and definitely wouldn't be a place I would rush to go to again. Inside the restaurant, there was an orange light that absolutely blinded me, and it made our faces in photos look like oompa loompas. It was also unbelievably hot but only on one side of my body.

Really tasty, fresh ingredients, cooked with care and served with a smile and great service in an unpretentious manner. What’s not to love. Good value too.

linguine and risotto were both on the smaller portion sizes, tasted nice, seabass was nice, spinach was nice, chicken liver was fine, homemade bread and veal were fine, Calzone was very watery, I've never had a Calzone that when I cut it through, loads water came out... Tiramisu mostly just cream, didn't taste nice. The food came absolutely slow so I think it's suitable for people who have loads time to wait for the food, overall the food quality wasn't bad but won't be considering to come back.

5 STAR! Truly authentic little italian bistro, food is splendid! I would recommend everyone to go and I would go there specially just for it even my self - for the genuine italian cuisine. I went there alone but I got very well looked after by chef Tony, absolutely loved the visit!

That was the best Italian food ever! My son said last time he ate pizza that good was in Italy when we went skiing! It's definitely our favourite spot in Kingston and we definitely will come back there! Amazing!

Third visit to this cosy restaurant near Norbiton station. I had the spicy sauce, Nduja pasta dish, which was delicious but a tad greasy. Service from the charming Calabrian waiter, was excellent, even if he is very cheeky and a good salesman.

Food is always good here, however it's started to get expensive (subjective, I know) for four people, one starter to share between us and a bottle of water, a coke and a small wine and pizzas, no dessert £100. Maybe it's the 12.5% obligatory service charge? I'll still go back but not so often.

My Partner and I visited for the first time yesterday, had fabulous food, the staff were extremely friendly and most of all my Calzone was absolutely awesome...

Nowhere is cheap nowadays so we spent about £60 a head. The food was excellent and large portions and the waiter was great fun . Sadly there were only 2 tables occupied and they left early. We were quite a large group so we made our own atmosphere.

Lovely authentic restaurant, with delicious food and great service from the host, Gianni. Highly recommend the Linguine frutti di mare and the Banoffi Pie.

The food was the greatest I had ever had and made my mouth heaven, the music was lively and bringing joy with a lot of messages of love around, our waiter, gianni, was engaged, kind, joyful and helpful, he was honestly the best waiter I have ever had and made my day. 👍👍👍👍👍

A truly hidden gem. We were welcomed by Tony - head chef, he was very friendly and charming. The food, it's like we were back in Italy on holidays, absolutely delicious, great presentation and very generous. We will definitely be back for more! Please, please keep it that way! :) Thank you

Caprese, vegetable soup, pizza (with extra Gorgonzola) and Don Pedro dessert were excellent! Good house red wine and Italian water. Carbonara not with guanciale and egg yoke but bacon and cream for English taste… cioccolata calda not thick and creamy but ordinary milk with powder. Therefore an 8 out of 10.

Really lovely, authentic Italian restaurant with great food. We had a great meal and the staff were very welcoming.

A friend who is a regular customer took us there on Saturday 4th November '23. We absolutely loved it. Wonderful greeting. Superb food. My wife and our friend had linguine gamberoni and I had calzone. A lovely experience in a tiny, snug environment. My only small gripe would be the fact that when one is in the loo, there is nothing on the restaurant side of the door that informs others that the loo is occupied! A bit disconcerting when one is in mid flow! Other than that, brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Lovely restaurant - the decor was rustic and charming. They offer seating either indoors or in a conservatory area. The gentleman serving on the particular evening was very pleasant, as was the kitchen staff. Fast service. Ordered two seabass dishes. It was tasty but quite pricey for the portion sizes. The tiramisu however was the highlight - a must try if you come here! Very light and flavoursome.

Gianni is a maestro. Made me feel like a king in my illness and misery. The food was delicious and nutritious and made with love ❤️. I highly recommend this restaurant for all seasons 😋 👌 🙌 😊 Xxxxxx

Wednesday night? Italian near Kingston/ Richmond? We decided to try out Trattoria Calabrese, and man we weren't DISAPPOINTED. From the service to the food. The Chef made a suprise appearance which was very nice. Good staff, good people and even better food. Big 5/5

Great food, desserts were brilliant too, homely and welcoming people, was an absolute delight to dine here.

We came to Trattoria Calabrese because we were visiting Richmond Park abd were curious about the 4.8 stars on Google (and we love Italian food) and SO GLAD we came. The men who attended us were beyond nice, and the two pastas we ordered were amazing, the nduja one (it is spicy so beware!) and the creamy prawn-salmon. All super good. The portions look small in the pictures, do not be fooled as they were quite big! Do come if you are in the area! We will be back for sure.

First time we ate here was after noticing it having had an utterly underwhelming experience at a fish restaurant a few doors away. The food here is really good, everything tastes very home made and no-one leaves this place hungry. The guys who run the front of house are very attentive, and whoever the chef is does an amazing job. We love the spaghetti bolognese which I know isn't very imaginative but its one of the best we've tasted in a long time. Garlic bread with cheese is basically a pizza with melted mozzarella and completely addictive. I think the prices are more than fair for what you get. Only been twice but will continue working our way through the menu....

Total gem of a place, exceptional food and friendly service. If you are looking for quality food and service in a relaxed atmosphere, then this is the place to go. My only wish is that the restaurant was local to my home town 😊

I came across this restaurant while looking on Trip Advisor for a good local restaurant for an evening meal out, and given the great reviews decided to visit. We weren't disappointed. The waiter was courteous and attentive, telling us about the specials board when he bought the menus over. I had the bruschetta starter which was just as it should be - lots of fresh tomatoes on a garlicy piece of toasted bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Lovely. The star of the show was the sea bream, delicious fillets with a tomato, olive and caper sauce. I was too full for a desert but my friend ordered the tiramisu - they must have known I couldn't resist a taste as they bought an extra spoon! This is a lovely, cosy, traditional Italian restaurant and I can highly recommend a visit.

Booked table was for 18.00 and that was a good time gor a Saturday evening. The gentleman that was front of house was very warm and welcoming. I was on a first date with someone and the restaurant made the atmosphere to be relaxed . Had an amazing meal all cooked freshly and served with a smile .Would recommend this restaurant and yes I'm seeing the date again .

I have been coming for years to Trattoria Calabrese and quality and service is the perfect for family Italian. Tonight writing review as had brilliant date night with my. Choose this for your next Italian meal out. Alex

What can I say but superb? We hadn't visited Calabrese for at least five years so, although I had some idea of what to expect, the restaurant exceeded our expectations. We went out to celebrate our 30th (pearl) wedding anniversary on a quiet Sunday evening. There were a few other diners and our excellent starters - melanzana calabrese and bruschetta - certainly delivered freshness and quality and arrived swiftly. The service was both attentive and friendly. Moving onto the mains, I had a pizza ortolana and my wife had the pollo funghi e asparagi (chicken with mushrooms, asparagas in a brandy and cream sauce) which she said was delicious. Normally, I would consider something from a fresh pasta menu but the meat-free options here were limited to just two (one of which included chillis of which I'm intolerant) so I had to consider the pizzas instead. I would suggest offering a ribbon pasta with a cheesy, mushroom sauce and we told the waiter this. It's rare that we pass on desserts in Italian restaurants - I really have to try their tiramisu as a matter of course - so we went for the tiramisu and banoffee. Again, they duly delivered. As we concluded our meal, the chef came out to say hello and to thank us for dining there. We discussed other local Italian restaurants and I said his food was well ahead of whatever they could offer. He was most appreciative. In conclusion: the food is great, the service impeccable and the bill reasonable. It's handy for Norbiton station, Kingston Hospital and several bus stops. Free parking can be had close-by too. Most recommended.

This is flavour wise, the best Italian food in London, I can not believe I lived in New Malden, and this place has been here for 10 years, and this is my first visit, I will come back again next week food fantastic, fresh and delicious

After more than 15 years still our favourite local restaurant! Fresh food, great wines and a welcoming environment. We often meet other returning customers, which is a good indication for the quality. Kudos to the team for continuously running this amazing place! See you soon again.

A lovely restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We did not feel rushed to make our choices and service was very efficient. Our meals of pasta and pizza were delicious.

Fabulous dinner here last night. Food to die for - my chicken in a mushroom and brandy sauce was outstanding. We had prawns in chilli and garlic and spag bol. Plus a sausage pasta which was superb. All delicious! Wonderfully attentive service from a man whose name I do not know but he hailed from Calabria in Italy. We drove for two hours to visit on the recommendation of family who live locally to the restaurant and would not hesitate to do it again. Superb!

Local Italian restaurant in Kingston. My new favourite in the area. Hearty delicious plates of pasta with good portions. The seafood pastas are great and recommend trying them out. The starters like the bruschetta are also worth ordering. The wine selection could be improved.

A great little place. 10 min walk from Kingston led us here. Welcomed by friendly and attentive staff who served great food. I had gnocchi off the Specials board and my daughter had a Pizza. Both very happy with our food and the relaxed atmosphere.

I am a regular here and the food is always excellent. Cosy feel of Italy, good menu. Try the mussels - wonderful. They are also open all day, so good for a late lunch.

This place is fantastic, great decor and great service and that’s before I even mention the food. We had a really delicious dinner here, a margarita pizza, a plate of arrabiatta pasta, a beer and a lemonade and it was only 35 pounds. I’ll be back for sure.

Veal was spectacular, wine excellent, another fantastic meal here. There is a reason people come every week, the food is great. No fuss, a lovely simple place, typical Italian food done well.

We’ve visited this restaurant for many years and it never lets you down. We really love visiting. The food is fantastic, the vibe is great and the owner and staff incredibly friendly. I can’t recommend it highly enough! The new outside space with the extra cover is also a fantastic addition!

This is our favourite restaurant in Kingston. We hadn't been for a while as we moved out of the area. Last week, we had dinner with three others, and we were pleasantly surprised that it hasn't changed (a few decorative updates) but the same delicious food and warm welcome. Their pannacotta is probably the best in the world.

We booked this restaurant as a party of 8 for a family celebration. The food was all delicious and I cannot fault the service. Highly recommend!

The outside gives an indication of what to expect inside. Reviews don’t replicate the food or experience of what you receive unfortunately. My partner and I decided to start trying more local restaurants based on reviews, and with this being a high scoring one, thought we could have found a gem. Great greeting from the manager (we think) and each course, was uncomfortably back checked by him to see how the food was (his friendliness was a cover for the low quality of the food and to assist in perhaps receiving a higher rating on some platform). The food was not great. ‘Homemade soup’ (extremely doubtful) that was a blended mixture of vegetables, resembled brown sludge with zero taste. Bread that had been ‘homemade’…ie, part-baked rolls heated in the oven (dry), overcooked meat (lamb), bland flavours, no accompanying veg (Bruschetta was okay). It’s as though the chef was the third stand in, who perhaps learnt his trade somewhere other than, Italy. Anyway, £55 later (not including drinks) and here’s the review. You sometimes get and don’t get, what you pay for. To reaffirm, friendly manager.

This little gem has fast become our regular. Sergio and the team are so welcoming and clearly a cornerstone of the community; so great to see customers being treated like family. The food is pretty damn good too! 👌👌

Lovely little place. We have been a few times and food does not disappoint. Short menu, well cooked dishes and caring service. Deserts are home made and would be a good reason to come by themselves. It can get busy from time to time. Overall great experience and the children love it

I have been dining here at Trattoria Calabrese for over 7 years and still is the best Italian in Kingston. Owner Selim is always hospitable very positive, great person. His Italian Kitchen team one of the best that l have seen in my Hotel experience. Once again thank you for the lovely food and fantastic service. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Right . So I tried around 12 -14 dishes from the menu ( starter and main) as we had a group of 6 . Food was ok. Mussels were not fresh and smelt very fishy. So We were disappointed. Dunno if I will return . Pasta was just ok. :(

Had the most wonderful evening here. The food was superb calamari was to die for (the best I've had in years)! Small family run authentic Italian restaurant. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Make sure you book ahead we wouldn't have got a table if we hadn't.

My partner and I are regulars here because you cannot top it! This is the best Italian restaurant I have ever experienced in the uk. The most attentive waiter and the food is delicious as well as the Italian wines. Experience Italian culture in full swing. The calzone especially I love. King prawn starter and penne alla rustic we awesome! The tomatoes on the bruschetta were pretty tasteless, and the butternut squash risotto tasted of nothing. Good food if you stay away from the veggie options!
