Topolabamba in Glasgow City

Meh. Maybe I chose poorly. Two lots of tostada and a Mexican slaw. Crab ceviche tostada was plain weird. Canned (?) crab with lemon juice and too much iceberg lettuce. Plus tofu tostada: cold tofu with around 12 black beans and half a head of iceberg. Margaritas fine. Adding 1 star for the slaw. Guac overprocessed: minus one star. Plus one star for great tortilla chips. Minus one star for running out of dos Equis. Free pencils: plus one star

Incredibly friendly staff, sorted out a table for us after a minor mix-up with the booking despite it being packed to the gills. Not had any other Mexican food in Glasgow before but you can't go wrong here, easily the best I have had. Good portions, lots of option available. It's busy with good reason so I would recommend booking in advance. My partner and I were well fed for around £30, the burritos and quesadilla's were excellent.

I visited Glasgow recently with my Mum for a rare night away. We were staying at Blytheswood Spa and someone recommended Topolobamas for our evening meal. We had a lovely meal … quick service, friendly staff and good food! We will be back next time we’re in Glasgow ☺️

A lad on the plane recommended this restaurant, as we arrived into Glasgow. It was a great recommendation and I'm happy to now recommend also. The jalapeno poppers were awesome! Cool vibe. Efficient staff. Tasty food.

Went in with my 2 daughters. We had a lot of different dishes. I absolutely loved the Chicken Tinga Tacos delicious. I also had the Habenro Chicken Wings, they were tasty but I don't think they deserve the 3 chilli's. We had a few cocktails each. The total cost was surprising I expected it to be more expensive especially being on the city centre. We will defo be back.

Good atmosphere and delicious blood orange margarita. Everything else was average at best. The ceviche was not good, but the staff was very friendly and helpful and immediately apologised and took it off the bill when we told them. The food came a bit too quickly, the first two dishes arrived before the drinks. The restaurant could be quite good but unfortunately it's not.

Dashed in for a quick bite to eat on Saturday Expected to be rushed through, so that the could turn the table but was amazed at the quality of the food and fantastic service from Regan Lovely personality & super efficient Managed hotels, restaurants & pubs for 16 years & train organisations in Customer Service, so can be quite pick… but I love acknowledging great service

Received recommendation from family to go here and I wasn't disappointed. Loved the food, it was fresh and tasty with the best of ingredients. Favourite dish was the prawn tacos- king prawns with Mexican slaw on soft tortillas and the barbacoa beef tacos. Only flaw I had with the food was that I couldn't fit it all in! Portions are a very good size and the Mexican beer is great too.

Topolabamba vibes are 5/5. This place has a lot of small plates, but also a few larger ones, and is meant for sharing. This was nice since I could share everything with my partner. We really enjoyed all the small plates from the “street food” section (we got taquitos and tostadas) and the salt and chilli pepper fries (all of these are shown in one of the pictures). But we were less impressed with the cauliflower wings and chicken mole enchilada that we got. However, getting margaritas here is a must. The blood orange marg that I got was one of the best I’ve ever had!

Great service and atmosphere, good selection of food, good sized servings. Be warned as some food is very spicy.

Had gone here for lunch today with high hopes in regards to the standard of food reading so many reviews. Unfortunately this didn’t live up to standard in my opinion. We were given 1 hour with the table which we had been rushed out the door at 59 mins (we had only just paid the bill-literally) food was extremely dry, crunchy and tasteless (other than the fries which were lovely) it was a bit crowded as well. The food looks great no issues there but wasn’t great with taste to be honest.

Good Mexican food. They say it's hot but it's not that hot either. Normal service. Good atmosphere.

Really enjoyed the late lunch here with my daughter. Never had a booking on a busy mother's day but they managed to squeeze us in. We both enjoyed the burritos and share a few tacos. Staff are very attentive and triple checked no allergies after my daughter asked for her burritos without cheese. Would recommend.

Absolutely delicious Mexican food. The guac was next level 🤤 super reasonable prices too!!!! I loved the tofu, black bean & pickled onion tacos. The margarita went down a treat too. The atmosphere was great, very busy but food came out really quickly

Always amazing and not too pricey

The food was bang average, appreciated the GENEROUS helping of guacamole with the tortilla chips but other than that the food was just kinda regular, nothing to write home about, nothing was bad about it but nothing was amazing. loved the vibe of the place and the service was excellent, Paul was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant had a nice vibe to it too, I liked the decor.

Favourite food place to visit in Glasgow! Really good gluten free and vegetarian options. Amazing lunchtime deal. Margarita cocktails here are one of the best I’ve had, with so many choices.

Best mexican food I've ever had! We had the lunch menu and it was an absolute bargain, although they say small plates, over the whole meal we were really happily full leaving, super friendly and helpful staff and the food was quick too, would definitely recommend and will be back again

Staff very friendly. The girl in charge of us was Reagan. She was great. My 1st time having tacos and Reagan explained everything which made my visit so much more enjoyable. Food was excellent. Thanks to Reagan we ordered just the right amount.

This was my 1st time trying tacos. So glad we tried here. Our server Reagan really looked after us and explained the menu. Made sure we ordered enough but not too much. We will be back.

Booked for dinner recently. Food was very good and excellent quality. Service was initially good but then it became difficult to attract attention to order more drinks but plenty of staff working they preferred chatting. Improve the service and it would be excellent.

We fancied the look of Topolabamba walking past and when everyone decided they weren’t going to be hungry and just fancied some “picky bits”, we quickly booked a table for later that evening! Mexican Tapas For The Win! Needless to say we completely over ordered and had an epic amount of picky bits that were all stunning! Think Wahaca on another level! I honestly can’t remember what we ate, but you will be able to see from the pictures there were lots of taco, taquitos, tostadas beer and cocktails! All very very awesome and again something I wish we could bring to Chelmsford, Essex!

First visit to this restaurant but we won’t go back again. Ordered what we thought were basically starters and mains but it all arrived together, result was lots of it went cold fairly quickly. The food didn’t taste fresh at all and was quite bland. A very rushed and offhand experience, not worth the money, couldn’t recommend I’m afraid!

My experience was horrendous. Greeted with zero enthusiasm. Serving staff seemed to not care... less than bare minimum effort and friendliness. Food was fast, maybe too fast as beef steak tasted like cheap lamb, ribs had minimal meat, tacos were sloppy. Genuinely the worst experience I've had a restaurant in a long time. Don't understand all the positive reviews. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I've had better service from a drive through window.

A bit overpriced for what it is and compared to other similar places, but the food and drinks were pretty good overall. The jalapeño poppers were a bit disappointing, but the crazy corn made up for it. It was just slightly more expensive than we would have assumed for 2 people who dine out regularly but not a bad experience at all.

Service was good, friendly and efficient. Food came out far too quickly which tells me a lot of it is pre-cooked and just put together on the spot. I’d expect that from a takeaway or a fast food restaurant. Not a restaurant which charges a fair whack for food. It seems every dish was cooked with the hot spices. It didn’t matter if we ordered food with no spice it tasted just as spicy as the spicy stuff. The table we sat at would also struggle to fit two people, never mind four. Overall not a bad meal but could be better. 6.5/7 out of 10

Probably the best mexican restaurant I've been to in Glasgow, well apart from Bibis but that's a different experience and not central. Foods really good, service is excellent and it's a good atmosphere. Nothing to fault really. Been twice and wouldn't hesitate to go back Still not as good as taco van in LA tho ☺️

Fantastic meal following a long day at work. I have the chicken tinga tacos and shredded beef tostados. Both were excellent and left just the right amount of tingle on the tongue. Espresso martini was also a delight. I would really struggle to find fault with my visit as staff were also excellent

Very disappointing we had a meal here on Thursday night. We were left for ages at our table and had to find someone to order food. When we did half our order didn’t turn up. The fondue was inedible and the fish tacos had coleslaw on which was not on the menu description. We had no apology for the food not turning up and the staff were rude and unhelpful. I had to ask for the bill a few times. It was just a horrible experience. We had 2 nights in Glasgow and I feel really disappointed at the service we received.

Food and atmosphere here is always great, but really put off by staff. Mix up with our booking and the male front of house member was extremely patronising- telling us we hadn’t booked (we had booked over the phone) and following up with it unnecessarily over the course of the evening after the issue had been sorted. Was also rather patronising to the group when we were happy to wait or go somewhere else. Put a downer on our experience, was such a shame!

Had an anniversary dinner here and was very disappointed. Starter and mains all arrived at the same time. Yes I know it was tapas style, but there was an obvious difference between starters and mains and I felt rushed rather than relaxed. Would not recommend.

Fabulous afternoon, food was good, cocktails amazing and staff fantastic.

Really terrible service. Had booked a party of 12 for my daughter’s 18th. Got no confirmation email so my wife checked mid week by going into the shop on Byres Road. Was assured we were booked in. Turned up on the Friday evening and booking couldn’t be found. Mairie D was appalling. Made no effort to assist us and left us in the street with no options. I get that errors are made and systems glitch but the attitude of the front of house was really disgraceful. Means we will never go to any of the restaurants now. One individual has completely spoiled it.

I always enjoy my experience at Topolabamba. The biggest problem is not to over eat, as there's plenty of great dishes to choose from. Its Nice and relaxed but still offers good quality and service👌. Probably mid-range in terms of cost (c£35 per head) but there are usually some useful discounts and promotions available. Well recommended. 👍

It's a nice Mexican tapas restaurant. You can order a few tapas or go for a bigger meal. I would say it is suitable for a quick lunch or dinner rather than a longer stay. The staff are very nice and attentive.

Always a great, quick, and delicious meal. I usually dine at the bar and the staff are friendly and attentive. Drinks are good, and the food is always faster than I expect. Always excellent.

Do not let these 5 star reviews fool you. I am from the Americas so I am pretty well versed on what ‘authentic’ Mexican food is, and whatever this was, was NOT that. First of all, the beef mini taquitos were disgusting. The meat was dry and flavourless, and the tortilla was hard and flaky- clearly been microwaved because it was served stale? Secondly the smoked chicken and onion quesadillas… Dry shell, the chicken had the consistency of store bought pre-cooked chicken and certainly was not seasoned, and a weird addition of some unpleasant cheese? (Does not belong in Mexican cooking) I cannot get over the consistency of the meats which were dried, completely seasonless and flavourless, and unpleasant. I was desperately trying to get some flavour from the hot sauce provided, but honestly save your pennies because in total my table for 2 spent about £28 on reheated, stale and flavourless chicken and cheese ‘quesadillas’. Skip this restaurant when in Glasgow! I do not know how seriously this can be referred to as ‘authentic’.

Food was fantastic and fresh but very small portions. Would recommend for anyone who like Mexican food, but you need to get 2 or 3 dishes per person, and it's quite pricey. Same goes for the drinks.

Overall flavours very good and a good level of spice. Chicken especially was delicious. Tortillas were a bit undercooked and store bought. Very nice margaritas

First time here although I have heard of it. The food was the best. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. I could have stayed the whole night but it got busy and we had already been given over an hour extra on agreed time. But was brilliant thank you 😊

Having had Mexican food all around the world, this is definitely the worst I have eaten. I had the chicken and beef tacos and the chicken wings. The flavours are so bland. There has been no care taken when preparing this food. The chicken wings were absolutely scorching inside making me assume they were put in the microwave for a couple of minutes. The only saving grace was the busy atmosphere and the attentive waiting staff. Would not go if you are looking for authentic Mexican flavours.

Food was mega, and the atmosphere is really lively. Don’t ask for ketchup the waitress will laugh in you face and not tell you why.

As someone who grew up on authentic Mexican food, everything we tried here fell short. We tried 4 different dishes and EVERYTHING lacked flavor. Definitely was't worth the money. Stopped by mid afternoon on a Sunday, place was very busy, just as well we booked the table a few hours earlier. Mexican street food, good selection on menu, service was excellent however for us dishes served up were just OK.... nothing special.

Food is amazing Not big portions so get plenty, I got 5 plus 2 desserts

Brilliant Mexican!! 😁 We had the Tapas, 6 little dishes, which was so much food! The service was quick, the atmosphere was dynamic, positive and buzzing! You get a pencil on the table to write on the wall! 😃 lovely food, frozen margaritas (oops for a Tuesday evening) 🤣 and a great atmosphere.!

Price vs Dish size is ridiculous, but food was tasty enough. Did have to send food back - ordered veggie and was served meat, tho they replaced it and took the item off the bill, so that was nice.

One of my favourite mexican spots in Glasgow, both the one in town and now in hillhead too! one of the few mexican places with halal options so super inclusive and the taste and service is always great, would recommend booking in advance if going for dinner as it's pretty much always fully packed

Lovely food and great service. Also reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this place. It’s also in the city centre and close to cinema and theatres.

Great 1st time visit and very good food. Visited the restaurant on the 17th November with my wife and two kids. Have never been before but was recommended to try. Atmosphere was very nice and chilled and was made welcome by the hostess On arrival....

Been here a couple of times and never disappointed. The staff are great but our server, Chris, really stood out. He had good banter with me and my friend and seemed to be enjoying his job. I was disappointed in the table next to us...

This place looks really nice, but I don’t think that food is that great. Prices are okay, but I ordered Chicken Chimichanga and it was quite bland. Virgin Margaritas are pretty small. Also, they add 10% service even if you’d order only drinks and be in a group that is Less than 5 people (most places are adding 10% when group is bigger than 5 people, so I was really surprised).

Had a great meal here on a wet Monday night, lucky for us they had a table for 2 as we hadn't booked. Was surprisingly busy, but having been there now, I'm not surprised. Will definitely be back . Fast service, small plates of tasty good food, what's not to like? Staff attentive but not on your face.

I'm afraid a bit underwhelmed overall. Staff couldn't wait to get us out of there, their knowledge of products on the menu was a bit on the disappointing side and one of the orders was incorrect (not the biggest problem as it was replaced) & the food was so so. I wouldn't rush back.

Had seafood taquito which can only be described as two wraps the size of a cigar case filled with tinned salmon that where already deep fried then kept warm until ordered, then delivered so quick to table that our drink order hadn’t arrived and the drinks were cans so not like it takes that long to bring them to table

Fantastic food service etc. only downside was it somehow took twice the time to cut a slice of cheesecake as putting together 20 odd hot dishes. Otherwise impeccable.

Food was great. Cocktails were strong. Could have been a warmer welcome when we were being shown to our table, don't even think we got a hello and despite having a child we weren't offered a children's menu. The girl who took our order and brought our food was very pleasant and attentive though.

Ate here once in 2014 and got food poisoning, which was so severe that I was unable to visit my grandad on his deathbed. - the food was also unimpressive, at best; forgettable (poor in taste and hygiene). Have come to expect a very low standard at DiMaggio's owned restaurants.

Very fun place for lunch! Mexican Street food style! I enjoyed the food! However, the tostadas were tiny and cold, which was weird for the tofu topping. And, the quesadillas don’t have cheese which is supposed to be the main ingredient of quesadillas (it is literally in the name) The queso fundido was excellent and a great sized portion. The cauliflower wings were also very tasty, but not nearly as spicy as I thought they were going to be! Guacamole was tasty too and was a large portion!

Such an amazing team, answered all my daft questions and accommodated my requests (fussy eater things!) Couldn’t have been a more welcoming team, food was 10/10 and drinks were amazing ☺️

Went to try the Mexican food in Glasgow. Amazing taste, Great Prices and Just sufficient portions. Decor is amazing, staff is friendly and courteous. Definitely recommended.

Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures, but Topalabamba is not the place to have authentic mexican food. The quesadillas I ordered were lacking a lot of flavour (I had chicken with oaxacan onion), the shredded beef burrito tasted better but also lacked sauce. On the other hand, the service and the atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing, so I would love to go there again for the music, drinks, and great service.

Some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in Scotland in my 39 years living here. I’ll definitely be returning!

Food way too dry, the fish wrap quesadillas......thing was basically a fish cake inside a four tortilla with rice an beans ( £ 12.95 ..whit ! ). Also , the malbec was poor ...won't be back

It was peak dinner time and we didn’t have a reservation but the front of house welcomed us and saw to it that we could be accommodated. The tacos were great - we had the fried fish; and the Chorizo queso with chips were warm and tasty! I highly recommend this place!

My first time in topolabama in Glasgow, from start till finish I cannot fault this restaurant, our server was Selina who was very pleasant and polite she recommended the dishes we chose as we were very undecicive, the food was amazing, we had a caraf of wine and cocktails, I will definitely return and will high recommended to my family and friends , see you soon😀. ***No chickens were harmed in the making of my Chicken Chimichanga*** Had the shredded "chicken" chimichanga with salsa rojo. It's a misnomer of a dish because its completely bulked up with rice and beans with trace amounts of chicken. It would have probably qualified as a vegan dish in fairness. Food was tasty but if its a chicken chimichanga, don't forget the main ingredient. 2023 is peak shrinkflation
