Excellent Japanese food in super nice friendly local venue. Quality of food up there for me with some of the best central London venues. The negritoro starter will live long in the memory!

Tomoe has been around for some time but this was my first visit. Don't know why it took so long to go there but will definitely be back as the food was delicious, can't fault any of the dishes my friends and I chose (I can recommend the breaded oysters, prawn tempura, baked aubergine and the sushi and sashimi platters) . The decor and lighting is the only thing that needs some attention.

Incredible, authentic Japanese sushi. I've been to Japan, and this is as close as you can get. Highly recommend. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for.

This is a little gem of a place - my go to Japanese restaurant when I was living in the area. The interior is nothing to brag about but the food is genuinely wonderful and not expensive when compared to other restaurants for the same quality. Definitely recommend.

Our go to place. If you want an authentic Japanese restaurant then this is your place. The food is sublime and the service is astounding. Very homey atmosphere, feels like I'm in Japan. The best sushi I've had in the UK.

Absolutely delicious. Had a lunch set to take away and it was delicious, very generous in portion and the staff were really personable and helpful. Also very quick! Looking forward to going back again!

Small Japanese restaurant in the centre of Putney. The food is really excellent, fresh and genuine; I also enjoyed the sake sampler. Service was cordial and efficient. The dining room is essential though welcoming, with a direct view on the cooking area. Having few tables and limited opening hours, it is important to reserve in advance. The bill for the three of us was £108. A neighbourhood place to keep in mind for the future.

I had a chance to pop in for lunch; the restaurant was full; however, asked whether I could sit at the bar on the right-hand side next to the entrance; the staff are always very accommodating (went back again for exactly the same dishes – Prawn Tempura Bento. It was as nice as the first experience, the staff are very accommodating again because I was a bit late for their lunch service. The quality of the foods stands out and the ambience does make me wonder whether it would be the same in Japan (one of the countries that I wish to visit). Therefore, if anyone lives near here, I would like to encourage all to try Tomoe. I enjoy mine a lot and will go back for more soon. Just noticed, their opening hours are quite limited. This is best Japanese restaurant in south west london. As myself Japanese, I highly recommend here as authentic Japanese restaurant. Sushi chef is real one. All dishes nice but I particularly like Tekka Maki 鉄火巻 tuna roll. They use lots of tuna than rice. I personally called Over flow tuna roll. Delicious. Staff also kind and well trained. They have menu with some picture and easy to order too. Children friendly.

Best Japanese food I’ve ever had. Great quality, freshest fish. Chef was amazing, service was really good. The prices can be a bit expensive but the portions and food quality are incredible. I would eat here everyday if I could.

Most authentic and delicious sushi in london for a much cheaper price than the central places! Have been going for the last 8 years and the quality has not wavered. The chef is a total legend and the restaurant has a very cosy and un-intimidating vibe! Cannot stress enough how much I recommend!!

We are local and have been wanting to try this place for ages - we finally made it for a birthday celebration and it didn’t disappoint. Quality and taste of the food is excellent, we had a selection of sushi plus some house kimchi which was so fresh. £120 for 3 people including tip and a drink each. There are also affordable sushi sets/platters for sharing. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. They even brought a thoughtful dessert (green tea ice cream) with a candle for the birthday girl.

The service is excellent, and the staff are always friendly and attentive. The sushi is fresh, and the quality of the fish is outstanding. The sushi chefs are skilled and knowledgeable, and they create a wide range of sushi rolls and sashimi that are both delicious and beautifully presented. The menu at Tomoe is extensive, with a range of options to suit all tastes and preferences. In addition to sushi and sashimi, the restaurant also offers a range of hot dishes and appetizers that are equally delicious and well-prepared. The only reason I didn't give Tomoe Sushi a 5-star rating is that the prices can be a bit steep. However, given the quality of the food and service, I believe that the prices are justified.

Went for the first time and so happy I did! A true gem with freshly cut sushi behind the counter and a very affordable price for the quality. Ended up spending £30 per person with a house sake included for dinner with plenty of sushi, miso aubergine and tempura.

The price is quite expensive but the quality of food is excellent and very traditional Japanese flavour . Highly recommend this restaurant.

Hidden family run gem, better than most more expensive places in London - everything is always super fresh and tasty, and they are always accommodating to my gluten free partner! Highly recommend. We normally get the california roll which is to die for, the prawn tempura roll, the salmon avocado roll and the kaiso salad. But the other day we tried the special prawn ceviche and let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it!

Our favourite in Putney, we’ve been coming regularly since it opened nearly a decade ago. Everything here has always been authentic, a rare achievement for such a long period. The bentos and set lunches are also great value. The exception is that one of us finds the tempura batter differs with each change of chef; otherwise, the wonderful sushi master who runs this reliable place also ensures consistency in the kitchen. He also insists on Japanese wait and cook staff. Even after all this time, we still can hardly believe our good fortune in having a truly Japanese restaurant so local to us.

Tomoe is an absolute delight of a boutique small restaurant, with wonderful genuine Japanese cuisine, yet great affordable prices! Family-run-business, super friendly staff, delicious food, and a great variety of dishes, from the very traditional sushi and sashimi, a la carte and set menus, to the teriaki skewers, tempuras, and other grilled dishes, with many options for vegetarians too! Must book in advance though, as a very popular restaurant like this gets always fully booked, and turning up and trying your luck may not be the best experience! If you wish to practice your Japanese, you can definitely speak with the staff, it is like being in a little Japan, in London! ^_^

Fantastic authentic Japanese food. The menu is fabulous, you will want to come back a million times to try out the many different dishes on offer. The sushi was one of the best I've ever had. The ambiance is relaxed and unassuming. Many Japanese customers were there when we visited, which of course speaks to the quality of the place as well. Highly recommended!

5/5. The best Japanese restaurant in SW London IMO. You can always tell by the ginger and wasabi with Japanese restaurants. Everything is super fresh, the service is rapid and super friendly. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese in southwest London then this is the place to go to.

It has a polite manager there but the women waiters are terrible. A waiter argued with my husband for no reason and she treated us like she hates us. We ate our meal very fastly and run away. Found another place to continue our dinner. What good is it if you cook the best food in the world.

This is a little gem we used to go to about 5 years ago. Went for dinner after a long time finally on Saturday night and sat on the bar. Was a wonderful experience to see the passion and the hard work of the sushi chef in front of us as well as a very hard working and charming team. The food was the best Japanese food that we had in London. Sushi was delicious and fresh, everything was beautifully presented and flavours were authentic and spot on. ありがとうございます！

The most delicious Japanese restaurant in all London! We had 2 salads, miso soup and a sushi box. The quality of the food is the same as you would have in Japan. The taste, flavours and smoothness is unbelievable. I highly recommend any food lovers to come and try this amazing find in the heart of Putney. I will be back for more.

Found this highly-rated restaurant in Putney. It’s an authentic Japanese restaurant with lots of options. I had Niku Udon and was so satisfied. They have a wide Japanese tea selection too.

Found this place randomly and spontaneously decided to book and come for a quick dinner. We sat at the bar which was cool and atmospheric. Food was all good and came quickly which was a place. Nice artistic interior and its awesome watching the chefs work in front of you at the bar.

We chanced upon this small neighbourhood restaurant because we stayed in the area. I love Japanese food, and tbis must be one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants outside Japan, from the decor to the Japanese speaking staff and the food, which clearly takes centre piece. Just look at the fish to rice ratio on the sushi and you know it...

Had a delicious small chirashi bowl which was very filling. Loved the assortment of sashimi and the staff were friendly. The free tea was also a nice touch.

We had lunch and ordered sashimi, sushi, and chicken don with udon. They serve generous portion of sashimi and sushi. Sashimi is thick and tasty, sushi is simply enormous, especially the tuna. They also serve draft Asahi beer, which is kept at prime condition. I would highly recommend lunch sashimi with draft Asahi. I would actually go back just for the beer. The chicken don and udon was cooked really well which kids cannot refuse it. The staff were absolutely friendly as well. There is really not much to complain. The place is also child friendly, and plenty of menu to choose from at very reasonable price.

By far the best Japanese restaurant I have had in Putney. I love the teriyaki chicken, the vegetable tempura maki and the miso soup. The matcha green tea ice cream is special. I have been to Japan and this restaurant is authentic.

Easily the best fish I've had in my life. Tomoe is a hidden gem! Unassuming exterior belies a cosy welcoming interior, Staff were very polite and attentive and happy to explain items on the menu. Came in for a quick work lunch and left having a culinary experience of a lifetime!

This place was a lovely coincidence. We were around the area and hungry for some good authentic Japanese food and we were pleasantly surprised. Quality is excellent and portions are hefty so don’t worry about being left hungry. The sashimi plate was freshly prepared by the chef and the unagi don was brilliant. Everything about the food and ambience brought me right back to Tokyo. I will be coming back again with friends.

Haven't been here for a while since the lockdown. So glad that the restaurant survived through the difficult phase. Food is still tasty as ever. Bought a friend over and got thanked and cursed at the same time for keeping it a secret for so long. Service was excellent and polite as it was before.

Wonderful Sushi and Katsu Curry. Classic sushi restaurant where chef serves up fresh Sushi at the bar. All the brilliant ingredients are on display. Unlimited tea included, I think it was toasted rice and green tea. The service is also impeccable.

Pure Japanese gem in Putney. This restaurant has been here long time, just 5 mins walk from Putney rail station. It serves both sushi and other Japanese dishes, which all reminds me of Japan. Service is friendly, although weekend is a bit stretched and I wish they have one more staff. Atmosphere is lively and is really like Japanese Izakaya. We usually order several dishes and sushi but it also serves box or large plate of sushi. I recommend to book in advance, in particular at weekend evening. It has downstairs and the place is not tiny but Covid restriction makes less seats available. It opens only from Wed to Sat but serves lunch as well. Highly recommend it!

Most authentic Japanese restaurant in south west London. We’ve dined in and ordered takeaway 3 times in the past week… so good. Sashimi is always super fresh and the pork katsu was the best my boyfriend has ever had, which is saying something. We’ve ordered a takeaway lunch as a treat. My favourite is the small chirashi rice bowl. Would definitely recommend this place.
