We stumbled across TOAST as we wandered Leith on a Saturday morning. The place was buzzing and so we were lucky to get a seat. What a fabulous menu - Lots of healthy fresh choices. A superb place for Brunch - you must visit

My favourite place for coffee or brunch in Edinburgh. Excellent atmosphere, clean, friendly staff, great location.

Sadly average. Lots of staff but average service functional but no genuine warmth had to be reminded that one of the two beverages ordered failed to be provided. Food nothing special and a 10% service charge added to bill.

This coffee shop in Inverness truly stands out with its exceptional flat whites. A must-visit for anyone craving the perfect cup of coffee in the city!

The food (TOAST BENEDICT) was very delicious. The juice didn't taste like fresh squeezed juice. I wasn't finished but they asked me to make the table free. Maybe they didn't see that I still had my orange juice + cappuccino. My message: Please give people the time to finish their food 😉

Food was nice but felt it was quite overpriced for the size of portions and what you actually got was quite basic. And £4 for a small glass of apple juice is quite ridiculous. And felt staff were not helpful as we had to find our own seats and for an expected service charge is not on really.

Ridiculous policy on not being able to use my laptop to browse the guardian has meant a journey to try this establishment was a complete waste of time.

Very nice place with very good (and affordable) wines and food.

I've popped by to grab an oat latte on the go which tasted great. It costs £3.60 which I'd say is an average price nowadays in Edinburgh. Also, it comes in a fully recyclable cup which is great for the planet 🌎! Staff are nice and friendly too, so you couldn't ask for better :)

Well, Toast has good food but when the staff asks to wait outside while it is pissing down with rain things get a bit weird!

Server assumed I was American because my accent was not Scottish (I'm Canadian). He was short with me and served me the wrong dessert item, disinterested at best.

First time in this lovely cafe and was greeted by the friendly Ranjit who was so attentive and made sure we were well looked after. Food was fabulous and the cakes looked great. The coffee was worth the visit as well as the hot chocolate which wasn't too sweet but still very chocolatey. Great view from window by the water on Leith. Hope to return soon when back in Edinburgh. Thanks Ranjit for being so welcoming .

We stopped in Leith and Toast was highly rated. Lovely warm place with a good menu. Good coffee and nice service. Highly recommend if you are in Leith.

Great place, love the atmosphere. A bit pricey (many of the cakes are over £5). The carrot cake was ok. The 'Toast Benedict' was delicious though and good coffee (although charging 20p more for decaf seems a bit petty).

A great place to have a breakfast or brunch if you are ready to queue for 15-20 mins as it’s always busy there. Very nice choices of meals although the cocktails and mixed juices are disappointing. Take your eggs with coffee and you won’t regret it! Also, the service could be a bit nervous if there is a big queue, which is always the case 😀

This is a fabulous wee eatery in Leith. Always busy. Loads of options to choose from, and a massive selection of gluten free cakes!!!

Tough times post-covid, but really lifted their game. Great place for a coffee and cake.

Toast is the ultimate brunch spot, capturing the essence of the neighbourhood. Our fond memories of delicious meals over the years are a testament to its charm. Whether you're looking for a quick takeaway coffee, casual lunch or relaxed dinner with some memorable wine, Toast is the perfect destination. Their staff are always attentive, friendly and welcoming. The space itself is flooded with natural light and boasts the most spectacular views of the Shore.

Literally ate here 4 or 5 times out of my two weeks in town it is great

Great breakfast options with tasty coffee and fine selection of cakes. However we were given the bill without asking for it, it was not like we ordered only one coffee and stayed there for hours. Plus there were no other new customers waiting to be seated. As a tourist, I am not sure if it is a cultural thing that is the norm in Scotland cafes; whatever it may be, it left us with a bitter feeling after eating those delicious food.

This place never disappoints. Delicious cakes and great coffee.

Beautiful view of the Water of Leith and amazing toasts. The shakshouka was perfect and their long black coffee is of great quality.

Don't understand how this place has some good reviews we won't be back, highly overpriced and rude staff. Food was average at best.

It’s a beautiful place for breakfast, I found the food tasty but the portions slightly small for the price (this was our most expensive breakfast in Edinburgh). I don’t agree with the service charge - it is a breakfast place and even though staff were nice, I’m sure we are getting paid a similar amount of money to do our jobs without expecting additional payment on top of it. This is not the US and with the current climate of increasing prices, adding 10% to the bill for a simple but already overpriced breakfast is just fuelling the cost of living crisis. I know it was probably discretionary but it should be down to me what I pay on top, not the owner’s socially enforced “suggestion”.

Came here for breakfast with my wife and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The coffee is great and the food even better. Breakfast for us was Avocado Toast (with two poached eggs) for my wife and toasted ciabatta with fried egg and vegetarian haggis for me. The vegetarian haggis is a revelation. The staff are lovely and add to the experience. This place is busy for most of the day so expect to wait a bit for a table.

The mushrooms, spinach poached eggs were excellent. Gets busy.

Incredible little diamond. Lovely cake, great drinks, loads of power sockets, gender neutral toilets, lovely view, spacious interior, fantastic staff. All round excellent cafe!!

We went for brunch on a Saturday so it was very busy. The food was good although the sour dough used for the toast Benedict was a bit too tough. We were disappointed with the service as it took a while before our order was even taken, then a good 30 minutes before we got served drinks.

Brilliant brunch place with great coffee

Absolutely delicious food (avo toast and masala beans on toast) in a fab venue. Warm and friendly staff, the buzz of the coffee machine, a cool rustic setting - just fab! Slightly more expensive but so worth it.

Been here multiple times, food is always sublime and coffee too. Amazing breakfast, brunch or lunch spot.

I spent a week in Napoli and this is as good or on occasion better than pizza I had there

Great food with very friendly staff

After a slightly misguided walk so both we and our dog were worn out, and having had a very late and minimal lunch elsewhere, we were in need of a hot drink and some cake. Toast was perfect for both - a lovely selection of favourites and unusual bakes in the cabinet to wet our appetites. A bit noisy as it was busy and there were some customers having a business meeting beside us but we had great service and the cakes we picked were lovely. A lavender and blackberry, and then a coffee and walnut. I have a pet peeve with most 'coffee and walnut' cakes, as they tend to be a weakly flavoured and dry coffee cake with one walnut on top. Not this one; it was a generous slice of nutty, dark and rich cake with delicious coffee buttercream on top. Just what was needed :)

Great, casual place. Brunch food in particular is great. They were also great about us bringing our baby in a pram, but it’s a bit tight for that at busy times.

Found by chance but will definitely go back. Very friendly staff and excellent food - one of the nicest meals I have had. Lamb shakshuka is fantastic.

Seemed nice, but the food was decidedly average and the prices slightly above... The Chipotle Chicken & Mango Salad was far too spicy (I happily eat jalapeño peppers, so it's not a case of me not handling spice). I commented to the waitress, but she just smiled/laughed with no concern, etc... Not the best response... The chicken meat was not particularly great. Maybe the other dishes would take better...

Lovely atmosphere and service was good. The pastry we had was good. The huevos rancheros were just okay - the poached eggs were good but the tomato and beans were a little bland. I had a mocha and it was very nice with pretty latte art. I could see they have a great selection of spirits too.

I forgot how much I loved this place. We went for brunch and got Poached Eggs and bacon with Avocado smash. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the bacon just lovely and crispy and the avocado was perfectly ripe. It was sooo tasty! We also had fresh juices which were great. Lastly we had perfect cake and great coffee. The service is very friendly and efficient and. we really enjoyed our brunch. Highly recommend.

My husband, son and 2 daughters and I came for a lovely dinner on July 15/23. We ordered pear and walnut salad; chicken and mango salad; steak sandwich; 3 cheese platter; lamb shakshuka and wild mushroom pasta. For beverages, I had a non-alcoholic Heineken and the rest of the family shared Chevanceau Blanc (23 pounds). It was a great evening and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was impeccable. Being walk-ins, we were lucky to get a table. I normally would not sit on a high stool but we could not afford to be picky as the place was hopping. If we go back to Edinburgh, I will make sure to make a reservation for another type of table! Toast was a few minutes from our Airbnb - we loved being able to walk to such a great restaurant! I read that it used to be a former art gallery. It's a great space.

I had a cappuccino and a slice of the bramble lavender loaf for takeaway. The staff was really nice and the coffee was good. The loaf was nothing special and for that a bit pricey. But in general, everything was solid.

Great variations on breakfast theme

The service rocked—staff was super friendly and knew their stuff. They had killer recommendations that made the whole experience feel personal and cool. Now, the dessert! A total work of art. It looked so amazing I almost didn't want to eat it. But when I did, whoa! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and you could tell the chef knew their way around ingredients. Hoping to o again soon!!

We were lucky enough to have lunch (it’s very busy and they don’t take booking for lunch) They warned us that they might be some delay before being served food but it was really reasonable. They have delicious freshly squeezed juices and lot of vegetarian options. The food is tasty with fresh ingredients. They served us very generous piece of cake. We had a great time thanks to the kind team !! For the more, they are dog-friendly 🐶

Good location with a very decent menu. Evelina (the bartender on shift) made one of the best Aperol Spritz i have had in a while, sadly she left the place after an altercation with what i presume was the manager/owner of the place over a Bloody Mary, not a great spectacle to witness especially when considering the "gravity" of the mistake, which lead to a very rude and disproportionate reaction from the manager/owner who basically kicked the person out of the bar after giving an incredible amount of c*ap to the person in question. As a hospitality manager myself, i must say that kind of behaviour towards the staff is totally unacceptable, regardless of the reasons. I hope Evelina is fine and that she will get a better job, she really deserves it.

We had a brunch here and the food was great. Avocado on toast with Scottish smoked salmon and eggs Benedict again with smoked salmon. Great value, busy with just the right sort of buzz and excellent service. Thanks to Frankie for looking after us!

Stumbled across this place on our last day in Edinburgh, gutted that we didn’t find it on the first! Delicious food, I want to return to try all the food. Great services 10/10

Amazing food, really nice staff!

Popping in for breakfast, juice and a coffee here was one of the highlights of my travels through Edinburgh. Thank you for providing such a beautiful atmosphere, and the best salmon eggs Benedict I’ve had anywhere!!!

Ordered a takeaway coffee and pastry with partner. As we were waiting for our coffees we were curious about the menu and buying some products. We were then rudely asked to wait outside and this was on a very quiet morning so we were not in the way. So anyway we waited outside with the bin men collecting rubbish about 1 metre from us. We got our coffee, i got a flat white and it tasted like burnt milk no coffee flavour at all and my partner got a americano which is as watery. Im not one to complain but for the reputation of this place you would expect coffee and customer service to be much better.

Four stars for service are just because the waiting time was quite long in the morning. The coffee also wasn’t fantastic, so I put 4 overall.

I was quite surprised by the extremely rude waitress. She refused to seat a group of 8 people separetly (in pairs), but she didn’t have any problem seating couples who were behind us in line. So she kicked us out. How does a café, which kicks out customers willing to pay, survive is beyond me. (I can't rate the food since she took away the menus and kicked us out)

Very rude waitress kicked us out because we were a larger group (8 people). She spoke to us as we were some idiots. There were free tables, and they didn't have any reservation, yet she still kicked us out. After us, she seated people who were behind us.

Fantastic cafe for a brunch or breakfast

Lovely venue. Their spanakopita is to die for. Unfortunately they aren’t clued up when it comes to greeting customers. Stood at the entrance like a spare part today for over 5 minutes. They were quiet, there were tables free, and at least 3 or 4 staff on shift. Several staff looked over, didn’t even smile, then ignored me. Not a “We’ll be with you in a minute” or any other appropriate acknowledgment. I ended up walking away, disappointed. Unlikely I’ll be back.

Edit: sadly it's gone downhill food wise in two years :( We ordered the same dish; the mushroom shakshuka and it wasn't nice. We raised it and apparently there's been either a recipe change or a kitchen change. It's such a shame! Staff are still really nice. When mentioning the disappointment nothing was done/offered (in case management are reading this and wonder) Original: Amazing!!!!! Absolutely delicious, we had the sausage and mushroom shakshuka. Staff here are really lovely, down to earth and amazing. Cakes are phenomenal, we only wanted a coffee but the menu looked too good to resist!
