Lovely local pub, friendly people.

Recently held my father's wake here as a private function. Iris and Tom did a fantastic job in helping arrange a fitting send off. Catering for 50 people was perfect and at a very reasonable price . Bar staff were very attentive and the thoughtful and personal touches made for an excellent experience. I would highly recommend for all family or corporate functions.

Hall was decorated really lovely and the food was tasty and hot. Staff were really polite. We had a lovely evening.

I went there for a 10 year celebration and it's not the only time I've visited we had my daughters 21st there aswell you are always greeted with a friendly smile and you don't have to wait forever to be served the food that they provide is very nice and well presented the hall out back is a nice size overall a good experience when I've visited and I'm sure I'll be back again

We booked TJ's for my mother in laws 80th birthday. We had the backroom all to ourselves with great food (hot and cold) waiter service for drinks and home made leak and potato soup (recommended) Iris the owner could not have been more helpful and all the staff was great. We had 30 people and that was about the perfect amount for the size of room. If you want a place for a party, give them a call.

A well run, well managed pub. A nice variation from the usual chain type pubs. A hidden gem in the town centre.

Went to TJ’s for their Christmas menu with friends. It was fabulous. Quiet ambience which suited us as we had lots to catch up on. The food was cooked to perfection - I had the salmon and my friends had the Turkey. Tom, Iris, and Steve behind the bar were friendly as always, and attentive. Will definitely be going back!

Iris & Tommy made organizing a wake for my dad so easy. They took all the stress off me and my family and provided a lovely environment for us to celebrate my dad. Popped in on the off chance while the children were in the local Escape Rooms - we were greated with a friendly welcome from Iris and her team and even more friendly welcome from Tara the Irish setter. Only regret was that we had to leave as would have loved to have stayed for dinner! Highly recommended if you want a warm atmosphere and great good and drink.

We went to TJ’s for a family lunch and were very pleasantly surprised! The pub is very welcoming as were the staff and there was a nice variety of food available. The menu is vegetarian friendly but, if like me you are a vegan, you can still find something to eat. The staff were very attentive and ensured we had all we needed without being overwhelming. The pub was very clean as were the washrooms.

Went here for a family meal on remembrance Sunday. Tucked away, but in the High Street with an atmosphere seldom found in High Street pubs today. Warm and friendly the staff could not have done more to have made our reunion and remembrance afternoon more pleasurable and special. The food was superb beautifully cooked and the simplicity of the Sunday menu a delight. Nothing was too much trouble particularly as we had a wheelchair user who was able to enjoy the afternoon in perfect ease and comfort. Will remember this afternoon for many many years not just for the memories that we shared but for the lovely atmosphere, food, service and staff. If you haven’t been you must.

TJ’s Pub for me is a blast from the past. Cozy, familiar and inviting. No matter which door you use to enter you will always be greeted with a smile and how are you doing? No wonder Iris and Tom have been in the business for years now. There’s always something going on; Entertainment is the word, wether it be open mic night, quiz night, or live music. We always enjoy our visit. This past weekend they truly outdid themselves. We had a Garden Party in their beautiful garden and it was a huge success. It’s a shame not to take advantage of such a lovely garden, maintained to the highest standard by the landlord Tom. Last but not least Tara, the mascot of the pub. A beautiful setter who is expecting puppies any day now. Give it a try and you won’t be disappointed

Had a fantastic weekend celebrating my birthday with my nearest and dearest in TJ’S last weekend. The welcome we received from Iris and staff was truly a 5 star service. Great atmosphere, great music, and good craic. We will definitely be coming back to visit next year. I would recommend anyone visiting Gravesend to definitely check this place out. Great homely pub with cracking beer and gorgeous food especially the new Sunday lunches.Was in there last week with daughter and grand kids and was made to feel more than welcome.Bar staff are wonderful and Tom and Iris are great.Even the local MP pops in from time to time

We're regular visitors to TJ's, usually for a light lunch on Saturdays. However, Tom and Iris have now started offering Sunday lunches, on the basis of advanced booking. We've been twice for Sunday lunch. The menu can be tweaked if you don't want the meal exactly as it's listed, as everything is freshly cooked. Mary's salmon with lemon sauce has been excellent, and my chicken (first week) and beef (second week) was lovely, with sufficient, but not excessive, trimmings (just a touch more than I could manage on each occasion!). Starters are duck pate or prawn cocktail, and desserts are home-made cheesecake (two different ones so far, both delicious), profiteroles or ice-cream. Thoroughly recommended.

Gravesend's hidden gem. A real find. Country feel in the heart of town with an extensive back garden for all weathers and a delightful function room for all occasions. Landlord and landlady, very friendly and old school(hands on) there to attend to you. Plus the beautiful Irish setter Tara who will welcome you equally. Beer is Kept well and varied for all tastes . You really can't go wrong.

Had a lovely meal here the last week of November with some friends. We had a cosy table in the corner of the pub and were so well looked after, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious. I had the turkey dinner which was plentiful and the gravy was wonderful. It’s a lovely place with very friendly staff.

Made to feel totally welcome, great attention to detail with a lovely Christmas place setting with your named place card, really superb turkey roast dinner,best I have had for having everything cooked perfectly and everything with alot of flavour - amazing gravy and I am particular with my food and praise, serve was great. Tara the beautiful dog is part of the fixtures and makes a visit. Thank you, pity the gravy recipe is secret it was very, very good.

We booked our Christmas celebration meal for our club at TJ’s and went on Tuesday 26th November. The Christmas menu suited everyone, three course meal for £24. I had salmon, one lady had the vegetarian option which she said was delicious. Others had turkey or gammon. All food beautifully cooked, lovely fresh ingredients with perfect presentation. The table was beautifully decorated and we were able to take our sparkly butterflies home with us! Really friendly pub with a gorgeous resident dog! Pleasant, high standard atmosphere, with great service, we didn’t need to leave the table at all, even to go to the bar - we were really well looked after. Will definitely return.

You could easily pass by and miss TJ's ( Thomas Joseph, sometimes Tommy Joe, or just TJ). The man himself, the real deal, will greet you, as will his lovely, friendly lady wife. Forget plastic, invented Irish theme pubs, this is a really lovely ace that just happens to be run by a very welcoming pair of Irish people. Pricewise, very reasonable, Ambience absolutely superb and cleanliness outstanding. Huge attentional to detail going on here!!But now, the piéce d'resistance, a stunning and quite uniquely rare,endangered species, there, on the premises, a particular breed of Irish hound that you are just going to have to visit the place to find out what I'm talking about!! And she's worth the journey alone. Anyway, I ramble. This is just one lovely spot to chill, relax and get the lowdown on what you should take in on a trip to one seriously historic town..

We previously came here for my Granddaughters birthday party as there is a function room , all the kids enjoyed themselves so much and so did the adults that we decided to come again after visiting the panic room ..... The landlady Iris could not enough for us as my fussy eater grandson wanted sausages , chips and curry sauce which wasn't on the menu but Iris accommated him with this and he couldn't have been happier ..... There is a warm welcome as soon as you walk through the door ...... I can't recommend this place enough due to the hospitality , atmosphere and value for money ..... Infact we have now booked to go back for our pre Xmas dinner all 8 of us and more friends too

Great pub, but drinks overpriced

Came here on a Friday night with friends. We were instantly welcomed by the bar staff, and they were so helpful with our indecisiveness. They have so many gins I didn't know where to start. The pub has a wonderful atmosphere and is very clean. We sat in the garden which is beautifully done up with candles, flowers and lights. Its easy to forget that you are in Gravesend. During the evening we met the landlady who is lovely and welcoming and of course had to say hello to Tara the pub dog. I will 100% recommend this pub.

We have been going to TJ's for lunch on Saturdays for several years. Good snacks, good beer, good wine, excellent function room with splendid food for special occasions. Book in advance for their cream teas. We took friends there for this. They had been to Harrod's for cream tea, and they said that TJ's was better! Debbie's cakes and scones are to die for! Tom and Iris, and their bar staff, are very friendly, as is Tara, the Irish setter.

Popped into Tjs as finished the escape room and was after some food, the landlady is absolutely lovely and and she accommodated feeding 8 of us quite late! Good food which was quick and the pub had fab decor! Gorgeous pub doggo as well 🥰

After visiting the escape room, me and seven friends desperately where looking for something to eat late at night. We wondered into tj’s and the lovely landlady Iris offered to open the kitchen and feed us all! Iris had been so lovely to chat to as well.

We visited TJ’s late this evening and asked if we would be able to have something to eat as a table of 8. The lovely landlady opened the kitchen for us, made sure we were fed and watered and brought the lovely Tara (dog) for a cuddle. The beautiful garden set the perfect atmosphere, and the food was exactly what we needed after a long day. We cannot wait to come back for live music, and will definitely be visiting again!

We had been struggling to find a venue for my brothers 30th. He has autism, so the idea of a huge hall with a DJ was out of the question. We hired the function room, where my brother was able to connect his x box for a tournament with his friends and family. The lights were dimmed and music down low, absolutely perfect to meet his needs. Thank you to Debbie who arranged our food which was plentiful and again met the needs of a very fussy eater. Nothing was an issue. Will definitely recommend and book future arrangements here.

Good beer, big screens and a great atmosphere, not many pubs left in town like this. Big garden and a smoking area. Worth a visit.

Great pub to go to before and after the panic room.....

This pub bucks the trend of 'yob' hostelries in Gravesend. The manager puts up with no nonsense and runs a very clean, respectable and friendly establishment. The smoking room outside is great and well-furnished. The really is nothing negative to say about this excellent venue.

I was in Gravesend looking for somewhere nice to have lunch and found TJ's. The staff were welcoming and friendly. They have a lovely garden to sit in and an adjoining function room. We ordered Jacket potatoes, one with chilli and the other with cheese and beans. Both were well presented with salad on the side and served quickly. We enjoyed the surroundings and food and would most definitely return when we are in Gravesend.

I often go here for lunch and am never disappointed. Some friends and I decided to try their Thai night on a Thursday. We all loved all the dishes we had. The Thai lady who cooks there caters for all tastes, spicy or not. All the dishes we had were authentic and delicious. There were 4 of us and we ordered a variety of dishes to share. We had 3 courses for around £15 each, such good value. Would highly recommend. Can't wait for the next Thursday we can go again!

My friend and I popped in here on our way somewhere else, we needed to get out of the cold. Only one other customer when we got there but a warm welcome. Impressed by the fact that even though it's an old pub it's very clean and homely with fresh flowers. We had a sandwich, nicely presented with crisps and coffee and tea. Definitely recommend.

We had a great day in this traditional boozer. The staff were great friendly and accommodating. We used this as our base for going to the panic rooms and had a fab time - juke box, pool table, bottles of prosecco, great sandwiches! - what more could you ask for!!

We just wanted to say a massive thank you for hosting our Works Function yesterday. It was a great venue, friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were exactly what we needed, and the food was really nice. We had the Christmas Menu and all options looks amazing when they came out. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we also enjoyed moving from the function room into the bar, where there was a lovely atmosphere and a wide variety of drinks. Great venue and we will be returning again, both as a company and individually. thank you.

This is a great pub near the Clocktower in Gravesend. The food is always really delicious. All homemade. The pot pies are lovely. All the staff are really friendly. Would highly recommend.

This is a very friendly traditional pub, bar staff are always very polite, Iris and Thomas are very welcoming, even Tara the resident dog likes to come and welcome us when she is in the pub. Food excellent always enjoy a good old jacket potatoe, but have to highly recommend the homemade meet pies.

Had a team building day, before attending the panic rooms 12 of us had a couple of drink. After the panic room three of my work mates went back to TJ and four went to Creams. We went back into the pub to collect the other three. We sat down whilst they were finishing there drinks. A very rude blond headed barmaid approached our table. She said very loudly and rudely 'what drinks can I get you" at this point the whole bar turned around and starred. We explained that we were waiting for the other to finishes then we were leaving. She then stormed back to the bar. It was a very awkward experience and WILL not be going back !!!!!! We were no longer than 20 minutes.

Lovely space for a three day training. Iris and her team looked after every one of us. Tea and coffee all day, with pastries and lunch provided. Thank you for providing a latest environment for learning and being on hand for anything we need!

I went to TJs on Thursday 13th July to try the Thai food evening which they have every Thursday. The food was authentic and so tasteful it reminded of my home which is Bangkok.The hosts Iris and Tom were just great.The food was prepared and served by two lovely Thai ladies who cooked to order, the whole evening was faultless, thank you for a lovely time in your beautiful garden 5 Stars from me and I will be back x

Went here yesterday with girlfriends, got to say from the outside I wasn't expecting much, but as soon as you walk through the door you change your mind, it's tatsetefully decorated with good furniture, the staff warm and friendly and the atmosphere great. There is a charming garden (with separate smoking area) on a warm summer night would be great to sit in and chill with friends and drinks.Didn't try the food as were were there early evening.Cracking pub, wish we'd have found it sooner !

Recently attended a retirement party at TJ's pub. I had no idea that it had so much to offer. The real ale is well kept and the bar area well set up. BUT out the back there is loads more space - loads more. Garden, function room, covered area where snacks were served and smoking area. The snacks and food for the do were top class and plentiful. I was impressed by the efficiency and professionalism of everyone there and a special mention to Iris who even ran some people back to their lodgings the night before the party. Well done everybody.

This is a great pub and having had an excellent Sunday lunch several times before and knowing that it had stopped doing them a while ago was very pleased to see the sign outside a week or so ago that they had restarted and having checked their website decided to go there this Sunday 19th March but was disappointed as we were told that it wasn't being served, so please make your mind up about the Sunday lunches it's great when it happens disappointing when it doesn't.

Lovely pub which is clean, good selection of ales. They have nice little touches like will serve your crisps and snacks in a bowl. Good juke box and great television for sport.

Love going to TJ's the landlord and landlady are very welcoming,music playing but not so loud you cant hear yourself think! Also great for watching the sport as they have great t.v's dotted about so you can catch more than one game/sport. def recommend popping in if your in town

I can not thank Iris and all staff enough for the lovely food service and hospitality that made mums party even more special. Knowing my dog had passed away the week before and I was upset Iris offered to decorate the coach house with banners on the day for us . The food for 30 people was fantastic very good value for money we were able to sit in the beautiful garden as it was a lovely day and didn't end up leaving rill 9pm . All staff and customers were so frendly and welcoming to all . Many thanks again xx

I'm always worried when a place has great review after great review, as I fear I risk being disappointed- I certainly wasn't here. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The real ale on tap was good and it truly is a modern take on a good old fashioned pub with prices that rival Wetherspoons for being inexpensive. I was working locally and had two nights in a local B&B and went to TJs for a pint or two each night. I would happily visit again if in the area. Can't comment on the food as it wasn't being served in the evenings, although when I enquired, and they knew I was a visitor to the area, they offered to cook me something !! I didn't impose but the kindness was appreciated.

A fantastic place to watch sport being able to watch the football, rugby and Grand Prix simultaneously. Tom, Iris and the staff made us feel so welcome. They have the best garden and smoking area in the town without doubt. They also had a wedding reception in the evening and the room was decorated immaculately and the food looked sensational.We didn't want to leave.

Great pub cheap good atmosphere come here quite often with me mates nice and clean can't really complain about much!!!!

We've been to this pub many times with our cycle club so thought we'd try it to meet our daughter for a light lunch and we couldn't have been made more welcome. We had our two year old granddaughter with us as well, but that was no bother either. Tom and Iris produced a high chair and kiddie cutlery. Lunch was lovely too. A limited lunch menu but had what we needed. Iris even produced a small potato with cheese and beans on a special plate for the little one. Will try the soup next visit Iris, as sounded lovely but was a bit hungrier than that this time. We'll be back.

This was my first visit to this pub and restaurant. Couldn't fault anything. Excellent service, staff were attentive and friendly. They even provided a small gift for everyone, which, I thought was a nice touch We were given a private function room, so cannot comment on ambiance of restaurant/pub.

if the kids don't come alomng to the prom at Gravesend always sneak to tjs for a couple of swiftys inn their lovely garden always treated to a smile and cleanliness is perfect love our summer afternoons here

Love this place especially on a Sunday afternoon in summer out the back very good prices for our town and always spotless clean staff all very sociable and seems a very decent clientell which is a shock for gravesend usually filled with a few loons but this place seems to get it right well done keep up the hard work

A good place to sit with local people and watch football or sports on the TV's good beer and food. All cooked and served in the restaurant section of the pub.

I wish I could frequent this place more often Instead but I always send people there on my reccomedation lovely and clean top draw beers etc and always a welcome from Tom and iris lovely to see a place looked after like all pubs were years a go under landlords not managers who don't care and remember use it or lose it communities should look after their local shops / pubs don't always look to the plastic multi nationals giving back nothing to the area but litter and grief

Often overlooked I think this is a lovely pub. I often go there with a female friend and it is a really comfortable place to drink, (no idiots), the Landlord doesn't tolerate bad behaviour and the Juke Box is excellent

Beers are well kept, Iris and Tom are always affable, bar staff cheerful and friendly and listen out for the wicked wit coming from behind the bar. A proper pub.

Tom, Iris and their team what can I say other than fantastic, we had our evening wedding reception there and it was wonderful, could not have asked for more. The buffet food was outstanding, the team were extremely hard working and friendly, the garden is very very pretty and I recommend it to anyone to pop in and enjoy a drink on a lovely sunny afternoon/evening to check it out.

TJ's is a must visit if you crave a good pint with a good Landlord & Landlady, the place is clean & friendly with no louts or loud music.they serve excellent food with a great garden & new garden room which is just the right size for functions of 10 to 50 people, its how good Pubs used to be.They cant do enough, you still get cheese on the counter on a Sunday lunchtime!Definitly worth a look, I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

The atmosphere at TJ's is always welcoming. The staff are always very friendly and attentive. The food is excellent and very good value for money. A very good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I would highly recommend TJ's.
