Lovely place to go for breakfast or lunch with a friend. Staff were really friendly and service was so quick even tho they were busy. Food was good, everything cooked fresh.

Timbers has become a staple for my partner and myself, we've tried others but this place keeps on winning. You won't find a more delicious meal, for a better price. End of story! Lovely staff too and I've always been a fan of the cosy interior. Personal recommendation: Beef stew and Dumplings, tastes incredible and always brings back good memories.

Had a wonderful experience, lovely team. The food was delicious. We had a 99th birthday lunch for quite a few if us, there was very little confusion with the meals, everything ran very smoothly. The only downside was the fact the door was a bit small, we also had a wheelchair,and double buggy but had to leave them in the car as there wasn't the room in the upstairs room. They also stayed open a bit over closing time. Would definitely recommend them for the food and service.

First visit to Timbers for a long time (used to visit Colchester regularly). Just as homely as I remember. Glad the herby diced potatoes were still available! Great food, value, service.

First time I have been for breakfast here it was fresh really enjoyed. Sausages tasted great, you can really taste flavours. Can't fault anything great service.

Very nice rustic place, welcoming atmosphere. Food and service top class too. Will visit when I am in the area next. Probably better to call and book during peak (lunch) hours.

Excellent food and service, visiting town from Australia and found this great little Cafe on Google search and was not disappointed. The menu and specials on the day satisfied all in our group and the service we received from the staff was very friendly making us fell welcome, Recommend to all. Thanks Timbers.

Booked a table for 2 for 11am. We arrived at 10:50 and waited to be seen to. I told the staff member we’d booked and she seemed displeased. Another couple arrived behind us and hadn’t booked and were turned away. Once seated, I waited until 11:15 before I had enough of waiting. Staff constantly walking past. Not a single warm welcome, or a hello. I’m not stupid to see that it was busy BUT to not even be offered a drink whilst I waited was just poor, especially for a family run business.

Can not go wrong really, when walked through the door was greeted well, asked if booked we hadn't, even that didn't seem to deter them of finding a table for us. We ordered the English breakfast which comes with a drink, and before we knew it the food was served, that in it self was amazing, v/tasty millie and kat were always very helpful about all we asked about, All in all I we would really recommend the TIMBERS.

Sunday roast is very good value (£10 for a beef one) compared to pubs like Greene King ones. Atmosphere is cosy. Lovely wooden beams. Traditional English food. Steak and ale pies etc. They can't do coffees though, but it IS English. Americano, espresso, flat whites, all very weak. But you don't go there for the coffee, so all good. Great staff, very good turn around times and professional. Could probably do with nice lighting (lamps / wall lamps) upstairs but it's still nice anyway.

Came here in a party of 7 to celebrate my 30th birthday with the grandparents, and it’s true what they say about the quality of the breakfasts! Absolutely great quality, locally sourced meat and produce, cooked perfectly by Lou and Pete, who even came out to say happy birthday, which was a really nice touch! The waiting staff were amazing and really attentive for such a large table for breakfast, so thank you to Maria, Ella, Tia and Charlotte. Highly recommend Timbers to anyone!

FANTASTIC a party of 4 yes no problem, you okay with being up stairs. when asked whether the milk was oatmilk (ordered) she wasnt sure so she changed it. food was plenty and delicious atmosphere was lively

Me and my partner came here for the first last week and we’re so impressed with how good the food tasted and how lovely all the staff were. We came for breakfast and the portions were really good and the food was just really tasty. We were both surprised how little the bill was considering the quality of the meal and you could tell it was all freshly done. Will definitely be back soon!

There where 7 of us booked in for breakfast to celebrate my sons 30th birthday. We all had a wonderful breakfast the food was fantastic especially the sausages!! All the food arrived together and was lovely and hot. Special thanks goes to Maria and chef Lou who made my son feel really special on his birthday. The trial waitress Charlotte was also very helpful and I hope you keep her on as I’m sure she will be a credit to your already great team.

I ordered the lasagna and it was not as advertised on their website it came in a silver gravy boat and it was grey liquid and an acrid taste through the mince and no layers just a bowl of slop. I complained and they took dish away and I had a different meal but no compensation was given as also I had to sit and eat my dinner on my own as the people I was with had finished theirs, very disappointed.

Often visit Timbers with friends and family (and sometimes alone), and am always pleased with the food and service. Nice atmosphere, charming setting, and always something new to try!

Great Cafe in the center of Colchester, staff anmre great and the food is really well cooked and caters for allergies.

I was given a voucher as a gift for afternoon tea at Timbers. Myself and my best friend had a lovely time. There was a good selection of sandwiches and the cakes and scones were delicious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and there was a very welcoming atmosphere in the restaurant. Thank you Tia, Lou, Nick and Maria for looking after us so well! We will definitely return and will recommend to family and friends.

Give these guys a payrise instantly as they deserve it. Saw Lou, Ali & Tia grafting to keep the vibes and grub good. Big up to all the timbers crew. Best £7.50 I've spent in a while.

Absolutely loved eating here. I happened to order for delivery from them and realised how good they were for gluten free and how good the food was, so made sure I ate in there the next time I was in town. Such a lovely atmosphere, the people who worked there were helpful and friendly and the food was just as good, if not better than I'd had before. They were also really helpful with the gluten free options in the cafe as well. I brought two people with me and they both loved it as well so I am sure we will be back!

The breakfast 100% was perfect but the coffees were terrible, very weak and the young lady seriously needed a lesson in making coffees I didn’t realise anybody could make terrible coffee, also she over charged us so maybe was having a bad morning

First visit, used Groupon Voucher. Had issues trying to book both on the Groupon Reservation Platform and the Web Site, but e mailed venue and they called me back. Internal decor is pretty basic, but good selection of dishes available, even though slightly restricted menu using voucher. We both selected the Steak & Ale Pie, which was a great choice, beef was tender and delicious tasting. We both enjoyed our afters, I went for the Apple Crumble and Custard and my DW went for the Chocolate Brownie and Ice Cream, both received top marks. Great value for money, and can see why this is a very popular informal venue.

We arrived with our Groupon booking, the young lady said they're closing at 3pm instead of 4pm, it was a Sunday as they had no booking. They accommodated us by letting us stay and use the voucher, we had a lovely two course meal, my partner couldn't buy another Cider as they had already cashed up so did feel a little put out and rushed at times. But good food the staff were nice.

Went for lunch at Timbers again today. Great again

Came in for hangover queue. Was drawn to the mega but opted for the big. Eyes bigger than belly. Get the negative out of the way first. Plate was too small. That meant bacon, mushies and tomato had to sit on the beans. What is that all about. Bean juice should always be separate from the other items. Fortunately, the quality of the ingredients overcame the beans touching. Sausages were amazing. You know its going to be good when you're given decent sausages. Bit too dark in there for an old boy like me. Would I breakfast here again? Oh hell yeah.

We had an intimate group booking for lunch after my daughter's christening and Ali was very helpful in planning the set menu. The staff helped us put up some balloons and banners and they are all lovely! We enjoyed the food as well! Definitely a place to come back to!

Such a cosy and welcoming place! Spent the most lovely afternoon here, the food was amazing and the cherry hot chocolate was just incredible!! Lily was amazing at serving our table. Cute, cozy café that I'd been wanting to visit for a while. My husband and I went for lunch recently. The servers were all friendly and polite, the interior was cozy and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, our experience with the food was not great. I had a quiche, which did not have a pie crust but rather a bread-like crust that I had not expected and that I did not like much. However, it tasted pretty okay. My husband had a burger, which was just a slab of meat with a bit of garnish in a bun with nothing extra and the meat tasted very processed and was chewy and hard to eat; he couldn't finish it. Our food experience was very disappointing as I know this place has lovely reviews and seems to be quite popular. I want to try it once more in case we just went on a bad day but I'm not sure my husband is willing to after a pretty bad experience unfortunately.

Best omelet in Colchester. First time visiting Timbers with my Wife and a friend from school I've not seen in 15 years. So pleased I picked here. The lady who runs it/owns it is so friendly and chatty. All staff members were. I ordered the Breakfast Omelet which had bacon and mushrooms in it served with a hash brown and beans. My wife got the smashed avo on toast. Really tasty food and such good value, £5.95... You can't beat it. A great cafe in the heart of town.

Had a lovely meal with a friend before going to the Panto, the staff Maria, Ella, Ali and Josh helped to make the experience such a positive one, and were so friendly. The food was amazing and all freshly homecooked, sooo many scrummy choices hard to choose. 💯 recommended this lovely eatery.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat I cannot recommend them highly enough. Lovely traditional lunch place in pleasant old timber framed house where you can find some peace and a quiet family buzz at the same time. The dishes are very traditional with no fuss, no excessive sauces or spices (nowadays you can't escape chilli!) and generous portions. Good for tea as well, with a variety of teas above average. Booking is recommended for lunch.

What a fantastic hidden gem!! We went on 19th November 2022. We arrived, and we felt immediately felt welcomed. We did not book in advance. However, they rearranged their tables and chairs to seat 8 of us. So we could sit together. Nothing was too much trouble. Friendly environment. All meals were delicious, especially the mega brunch. (My favourite)We ended up all trying each other's. I was on edge going to a new place with my little one as she's asd, but other than a slight meltdown, which was quickly resolved, I actually got to eat a full meal and enjoy myself. Just to add, the youngest member of our group actually ate food here!!! Reasonably priced, 7 meals plus drinks came to under £80. Lovely homecooked meals. Thank you to all who were involved in looking after us that evening. We will be returning. I say definitely recommend the only reason I don't give 5 stars as I believe there is always room for improvement.
