Tigh Na Mara Hotel in Dumfries & Galloway

Food was less than mediocre. Given that this restaurant recently won an award, we were grossly disappointed. Service was excellent decor above average, very clean and smart. Both meals could have been frozen meals heated in a microwave. Looked nothing like the pictures and was grossly overpriced yet again. We had Christmas lunch there previously and were disappointed with the food in particular the main meal. Turkey was not fresh turkey but instead sliced turkey roll, Brussels which I love could have been used for ammunition. Roast potatoes, the most important part of any dinner were rubber on the outside with very little greasy potato in the centre. All in all very poor quality which I put down to catering for large parties. This was grossly overpriced as well. My husband had steak which would need two sets of teeth to chew, vegetables undercooked and tasteless. I am suspicious that the chef was pre warned about the visit from the team assessing the food for the recent award. We certainly would not visit again, nor would we recommend it to friends It isn’t even mediocre pub grub, standards have dramatically fallen.

Had heard great reviews of the food at Tigh na Mara so decided to have a wee overnighter and try it out. We were not disappointed! Lovely room; great food and service - what’s not to love. Happy to return and recommend. Thank you.

Absolutely amazing food as ever. Had the steaks which are still the best we have had anywhere. Just so tasty and beautifully presented. Great service from the staff and can't do enough for you. Looking forward to Christmas already and also seeing the new part of the restaurant. Easy to understand why it is an award winning establishment.

Avoid if you are not a local, bar woman purposefully ignoring everyone in our group at the bar, literally took a local every time to ask the bar woman to serve us as she was avoiding eye contact and only serving who she knew. Karaoke was on as it was the Halloween party, however, again this was run by all the locals in the pub who would just go up and play whatever songs they wanted, staff and owner took no responsibility, so was more or less an extended house party going up and playing whatever song you wanted, cancelling the songs we requested. We therefore left and went home to play our own tunes. Advice to staff….. in future advertise your parties as ‘local only’ as that is clearly the vibe that you are giving off !!!

The staff are lovely… The food is vile! Pizza and a burger, pizza was so greasy managed to eat 2 slices of the dough using a knife and fork as couldn’t pick it up because of the greedy and thick layer of cheese, the plate was swimming in oil. Burger was the same leaving a greasy ring on the plate after each bite £4.80 for a orange juice Will not be back

We just needed an hotel for one night near to Stranraer, this fit the bill perfectly. Comfortable, warm room, nice bathroom, lovely staff ( friendly, professional, attentive) very nice relaxing dinner, good breakfast. Can’t recommend enough

Bloody amazing food, they have just won an award and you can see why, we had the Cajun chicken pancake and the Scotch steak pie and both were cooked to perfection. We are up from Yorkshire for the week and have found this delight on our second to last day, wish we had found it earlier The selection of beers is also excellent andthe bar is olde worlde (just how I like it) very good selection of beers, wines and spirits Atmosphere was lovely and pleaseant, music just the right level very friendly staff and customers Will be returning in the near future, I wish them the best of luck for such a lovely establishment

Stayed with our dog in front cottage ,which was bijou but very clean the bathroom was a decent size . The evening meal I found expensive , I had tried to look at the menu online beforehand, I saw fish and chips for 12 pounds , I am not sure if this menu is a dated price, or the takeaway price, we paid 18 pound each and it was not on the market menu it was on the a la carte ,also the soup was just under 7 pounds each it was lovely soup, chicken and rice ,a small bowl ,the haddock and chips, haddock was nice, but the bowl of chips we had to share were not chips, they were hollow flutes ,fried no potato inside,I feel if you are going to call an item Chips then that is what people expect ,if they are not chips you need to tell people to make their own Choices .We also had a dessert each , I would give the fish and “Chips” a 7 . The desserts and soup a good 8 ,the breakfast was excellent however 9/10 would of been a ten but the black pudding was a bit soft ,I feel it needs a radio on ,as everyone was whispering. The staff were very friendly and welcoming . Would be great if there was a menu online with up to date prices.I found menus on FB different prices .

Stayed here for 4 nights for a work trip and stayed in the back cottage, which was amazing, great facilities for tea and coffee with biscuits and hot chocolate. Ate in the restaurant every night and thoroughly enjoyed every meal, the home made chips are amazing. Had a dessert last evening and it was a tough call between the hit fudge cake and the profiteroles, the waiter said he preferred the fudge cake so I went with that and it was beautiful. All the staff were very friendly and it's easy to see why this place is the best in the south west of Scotland.

Visited for for first time and we were not disappointed. I very rarely give a 5* but i have to say the Tigh Na Mara desrves the full 5. First-frount of house staff, all young and watched over buy a manager who has trained them to a excellent standard, helpfull - friendly - attentive- knowledgeable just what a good restaurant needs, When done to you all. Now for the food, same again excellent to quality and presentation. My good ldy wife said the her roast beef was the best she had for years, not red looking but falling off the cut, just like she likes it ( as did I and Molly our Coker Spaniel - tasters ) my starter king prawn toast and main pork kiev Whoooo again excellent. As we visited area bout every two weeks in spring / summer / autumn we will 100% be regulars. Once again thank you all staff front and kitchen.

A wonderful holiday!! We stayed in the Tighnamara self-catering accommodation. The two houses were absolutely superb. Sandy Bay House was large and spacious. Beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you could possibly think of. Luce Bay Bungalow was of the same standard but was smaller and compact but ideal for us oldies that preferred to be on one level. There was nothing we could fault. We ate in the hotel on several occasions and the food, as always, was fantastic. Considering we have two chefs in our family.....that's no mean feat! The staff at the hotel were attentive and courteous. Nothing was too much trouble. They helped make our holiday great! There is so much to do and see in the local and surrounding area. Kitchen Coos & Ewes was a fantastic adventure, Port Loan Fishery, Mull of Galloway lighthouse with it's fantastic views and nature reserve, Port Patrick harbour and Pitch & Putt, Sands of Luce Holiday Park with animals for the children to feed, Alpaca's to walk along the beach and Pony/horse riding. On top of all of this, you are a mere two minutes from the most beautiful beach. I could go on and on! I love this place and hotel! We have been coming here most of my life and that's a long time. lol! We went back there to be married too, many moons ago. This was a truly wonderful holiday for all the family, adults and grandchildren alike. The children are already planning next year. Thank you to everyone that made it special.

Went twice today. Once for a coffee during our morning walk, and for dinner. On each occasion the staff very helpful and friendly. Dog friendly so that helped us greatly. Dinner was tasty and well presented, just main course and a drink £19 per head. Reasonable for the quality of food.

This is by far the best place to eat in the area. We visited several times during our recent week's holiday in the area and ate in the bar for lunch and also the restaurant area for dinner. Good choices for different diets and tastes (but be mindful if you are a vegan you are advised to contact them in advance). The portions are on the larger size, which meant we didn't get to try the desserts -but they looked amazing! The Belhaven Black stout was lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't fault our experiences at the Tigh Na Mara - would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

Eaten here multiple times over the past 3/4 years and can honestly say we've never had a bad meal, both as a couple and as a family. The duck is amazing. Perfectly cooked every time, so tender and the sauce is delicious. Cheese board was gorgeous. Don't know what the black cheese was, but it was my favourite! Partner and daughter have enjoyed their choices (silverside, lasagne, fudge cake etc). Service has been attentive and friendly. Happily proclaim as one of my favourite places to eat. Make a point to visit every time we're in the area.

Amazing food served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Well worth a visit. Chicken with Haggis was beautiful!

Went here for Sunday dinner & wasn’t disappointed as the food was excellent and prices were reasonable staff very pleasant and attentive won’t be cooking Sunday dinner again for a while be going there.

I shall certainly return soon and cannot recommend the experience highly enough. The meals were amazing - thank you Douglas. We met many friendly people, both local and from afar, regulars. Even managed a slight sun tan.😊 x

Still a fantastic place to eat out. ....be kind to all staff at the Tig during this pandemic.Service, Staff and food is great and is still very good despite all Govt restrictions.After finishing a lovely lunch a drink in the beer garden outside was lovely. The work staff have put into the beer garden shows how determined they are to serve the community. I take my hat off to you all. Thank You again.

Met here for meal with family, while on holiday in area. Pleased staff were willing to accommodate our 3 generations of springer spaniels, who lay quietly under our table in The Snug. Lovely choice of dishes for all 3 courses. Good meal enjoyed by all (+ doggy bag to take away = generous portions!).

We called on spec for a lunchtime meal after a two mile walk along the beach one hundred metres from the front door. The small unassuming front door of the pub/restaurant reveals a spacious, welcoming, airy, delightful dining room inside. During these Covid 19 days of 2020 the tables were nicely spaced and comfortable. A large outdoor dining area was also available. The top quality food was the best we have had in the Stranraer area. The real ale was an IPA, and this too was well kept. The ale was locally sourced from Whithorn too. Well done! The choice of food and the friendly staff are a definite reason to travel any distance to the Tight Na Mara. We will be eating there again before our holiday in this beautiful area is over.

My husband and I are local residents in the Wigtownshire area. We have been here approximately 18 months and visited this place on 2 previous occasions pre Covid. The food has been acceptable and the ambiance fine. They are also dog friendly.Obviously Covid has put on hold many treats like eating out; but we decided (as it was such a lovely weekend weather wise) to book a table in the Bar area for me and my husband and dog, being a pleasant change from cooking all the time.I rang up the day before and was advised to book a table, which I did for 5pm in the bar area. At the time of booking I was NOT informed that tables in the bar area could not be guaranteed.We turned up on the day in question 30 minutes prior to our reservation, the lady (owner I presume) whose voice I recognised from the day before, said our table was reserved in the Bar area and we could have a drink in there or outside. As it was a nice day we sat out with our drinks, a young man came and took our food order and when it was time we went to go through to the bar area. The lady in question stopped us and diverted us to their “snug are” saying that the bar area was now full and we had to sit in this area. It was empty and no atmosphere and since we had already reserved the bar we were not happy. The meal we had chosen equated to approximately £40 with drinks on top.In short, we were not happy at being stuffed in this area after making a reservation.We asked why we could not be seated as per booking - she said it’s Covid rules.Attitude from her not goodI understand that because of the current circumstances businesses need more revenue and I’m guessing that because it was such a nice day people came into the bar area and they didn’t want to turn people away.BUT at the of the day our reservation should have been honoured - our drinks 2 large wine and 1 .5 pints came to £17 eeek.All in all, we were disgusted with the attitude and will not be returning again, even though we live in the area.

Busy hotel, but they managed to squeeze us in. Meal was excellent, the CRISPY CHICKEN WITH SWEET CHILLI, HONEY & GARLIC SAUCE was gorgeous, and the steak pie was excellent.

Had a great lunch with friends, vivid measures were excellent and we all felt at ease with both the restaurant and the staff who all wore masks. Food was excellant. Worth a visit if you are in the area,

Lovely friendly hotel, we had dinner there and it was delicious 😋 amazing home cooked food would recommend it definitely.

We ordered a takeaway meal whilst staying at a near by caravan park. Steak pie, roast beef and a kids fish and chips. All in all a nice meal although the vegetables were inedible, very over cooked and soggy with a pungent smell to them! The meat was delicious and fish was fresh. Place looked lovely inside and would try again if we return to the area.

Enjoyed sitting outside for lunch so much that we booked an evening meal two days later. Food was wonderful, perhaps a little slow to arrive but cooked to order and served with a smile. Six adults two babies and a dog, couldn't eat in the restaurant so they found us a snug in the bar to eat their delicious food. Water for Harry the dog first, then took orders and food came quickly this time. Could not fault staff or surroundings. Highly recommended.

Visited here whilst we stayed in the village, called in every day for a drink and a meal, lovely food and very friendly staff. Made us feel very welcome. It was warm enough to sit in the beer garden sometimes, lovely atmosphere. Dogs welcome too

Have just had a very enjoyable stay.We enjoyed every moment from arrival to departure.First class food served by very helpful and friendly staff. Immediatly put on first name terms with the owner and nothing is too much trouble. All meals were 1st class. At first when looking at the menu the prices seemed a little high but the quantity and quality together with outstanding service justifies the price.The rooms are extremely good value and very clean and despite being above the bar there was vertually no noise. Slept like a log.We were so impressed that we have booked 3 more stays.Well done Naeil and all the great staff and brilliant chefs.

We ate at Tigh Na Mara twice over the past week. Before I give my review WE WILL RETURN as I’m hoping this experience was a blip in an otherwise fantastic food pub and I’ve rated it 5 stars in the past. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the standard of food produced did not meet their usual high standards. The chips were from a packet and where not the amazing home cooked ones of last year. The burger was nothing like what we have had in the past.it was dry and overcooked. The Pizza was bland and lacked toppings. I think that the COVID crisis has had an impact on the quality of meals produced. I’m really struggling with leaving this review as we have enjoyed SUPERB meals over the past few years. As always the staff were pleasant and efficient. When we’re next up this way we will return and hope that normal service has been resumed.

We’ve been on holiday in Sandhead staying at the Auld Schoolhouse a beautiful holiday home and this wonderful hotel offers a takeaway service so we’ve had our tea made for the past two nights! The Chef has been very accommodating and allowed us to choose both from the takeaway menu and the a la Carte. What a treat, thank you so much, food, flexibility and service were great. We are looking forward to our next visit to do it all over again

My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting here when spending the weekend in the village.We ate 3 times and every meal was terrific. Plenty of choice and very reasonable prices. Best of all for me was the mixed grill. Cooked to perfection and a very large portion. If you go for this, don't have a starter. Also, the staff who served us were brilliant and friendly. The wee bar next door has a coal fire and is very dog friendly too. Punters are also chatty . My wife and I shall definitely return here and I would thoroughly recommend it. Thanks to chef and all the staff for 3 outstanding meals.

very neat and tidy tables well set out ,food was very good ,staff friendly .but the service with drinks etc ,let it down a bit .they did not seem to know what stock they had .when asked for a malt whisky .they said would you like that on draught ?told there was no dark rum .but yet they had it in the public bar .do not know if the staff were new. otherwise an enjoyable meal and would return

Had our Christmas party here We are a disabled group The staff were very attentive and nothing to much trouble. Food was outstanding came piping hot and served with a smile. The disabled toilet was well maintained. I would recommend anyone who likes good food and ales served by very helpful staff to visit this establishment if in the area

The restaurant itself was not heated properly, it was cold - my husband did not take his coat off during the entire meal.Service was bad. We had to seek out a waitress to ask where we should sit, she did not bother to show us to our table. Waitress took a long time to take our order. The food itself took a very long time to arrive. We were at least 25 mins waiting for 1 starter. The main courses were also a long time coming. When they did finally arrive they were both overcooked whilst being lukewarm. I spoke to the waitress about this but as we were by this time very hungry, we ate them.(although we were not offered any alternative as the waitress did not even comment on our complaint but just walked away) The cheesecake was no better than one you could buy at any supermarket. When I asked why the food was so long coming (bearing in mind there were only six customers in the restaurant and two of those were eating their main meal when we arrived) I was told the chef was prepping for the Christmas menu.?! I've never written a review about a meal before but this was so bad on all fronts I wanted to let potential diners know that it might be an idea to go elsewhere.

Ate there three times in a week and found a good menu and wine list . Don’t often find Viognier of any type on a wine list - sorry we drank it all! Slight hiccup on one meal but it was refunded without unpleasantness , even though a bit of it was snaffled by the rest of us - it was simply a matter of personal taste for one of us , the chef was ace. A great community hub . Thank you .

Been coming to this area for over 40 years caravanning, seen many changes over the years but oh my...just finished a three course Early Bird meal at tigh na mara. Well all courses were superb...normally two course is more than enough but just had to sample the dessert as the quality of food was delicious. Hubby had prawns to start I had chicken goujons...yum then roast beef and hubby had sea bass, which he commented on on the amount of fish as there was three fillets normally he usually only gets one which never fills you. I had the trio of desserts, all simply delicious and hubby had our favourite creme brulee. My compliments to the chef for a super meal from start to Finish, staff very intentive ,great value for money...just sorry caravan season at an end this year for us. However only live a hour and a half away so will be down a run over winter as I cant wait until next season. Thank you....

My Wife and I visited here for an evening meal out whilst we were in the area and we had a lovely time at the restaurant.We had 2 course, and sadly no room for a deserts. The starers we had were lovely, a seafood dish and the black pudding haggis balls with a whisky sauce. Unique flavours and very tasty.The beef pie was also delicious and rich in flavour, but kept simple to not lose any flavour. My wife also had the seafood pancake, we could not complain with the amount of seafood within this, the whole slight critique was it was too cheesy ontop, but nonetheless did enjoy it.The staff were very friendly, and service was efficient and quick,

We have eaten in this lovely wee hotel the last two nights as we have been visiting the area. The food is absolutely amazing, portions are extremely generous and the staff are very attentive, polite and can’t do enough for you. The whole experience has been delightful. Called in for a meal with the family. We hadn’t booked and they were busy but they managed to fit the 5 of us in. We found a lovely range of choices across all parts of the menu. The food was excellent & even my Mother-in-law enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. Good portion size & very tasty

Went here on Friday and Sunday for a meal and had breakfast Sunday Morning as we were staying in the Sandy Bay House Cottage which was also fantastic.

Always stop here for a light lunch when visiting the Mull. Food is lovely, service great, and all round nice place. Well worth a visit!

We have visited and stayed in the tigh na Mara a few times now and it seldom fails to impress

I found the food fairly average to poor. Very designer decorated but glaring mistakes in texture and lack of flavour. The service was unfriendly.

Highly recommended - we recently stayed here for a 2 night family break and brought our dog too. This hotel caters for this - our room was clean and well appointed with places to take the dog out so win win.

Walked up from the Sands of Luce campsite along the beach. Popped in at 9pm. Dinner and wine was fun. I would like to stay here someday.

On the outside it's a row of terraced houses low in charm, walk through the door and you've suddenly entered a high quality hotel.

Cant praise service and food quality high enough . For an out of the way place we experienced top notch everything which was slightly unexpected.Reasonable prices and good sized portions.Possibly largest onion rings in the country !

Decided on a last minute Sunday lunch out with daughter and baby and were squeezed in at last minute. Great service and fantastic food......didn't have room for dessert! Portion sizes are really good and it certainly isn't overpriced! Can thoroughly recommend. Thanks Neil and staff

Went for dinner as they allow dogs in bar but as weather good sat in garden.started with Tian of prawns and white bait both very good although whitebait did look like fish fingers. Mains of pork fillet and the lamb cutlets were both excellent. Good selection of beers and wines.

Good pub grub, great roast dinner and the trio of puds was amazing ! Good menu with lots of choices.

Ate in the bar as we had our dog with us. Great food but not the best place to eat as it was full of locals, very noisy and we had to sit on stools. It's a pity that one corner of the restaurant could not be dog friendly. There was a good choice of meat and fish on the menu and we all enjoyed all 3 courses. Food was freshly cooked but still arrived quickly. Staff were efficient but very busy.

We had such a great visit the first time we had a second visit here the food was fantastic highly recommend the Bon bons very tasty, the others had the white bait, calamari and the Camembert all great portion sizes, mains were the pork loins sea bass, southern fried chicken and the lamb we all loved our mains, our second visit practically the same for starters but for the mains a couple of us went for the cod fantastic batter that wrapped it then on the last night a couple of us went for sweets again I can recommend the white chocolate roulade

Went this evening with family and friends. It's a beautiful looking restaurant with attentive staff and an impressive menu. The food was brought to our table very quickly and we all enjoyed it.

Visited this establishment whilst staying in Sandhead recently. Food was good as was the real ale. Dog friendly too. However it was almost impossible to get to the bar due to locals sitting/standing in the way. Language was also a bit off putting if you are easily offended with several references to “the English”. We did not go back!

Never been disappointed best meals ever. Celebrated our wedding anniversary tonight at our favorite restaurant. Chef's are amazing, staff fantastic, even a cheery welcome from the owner. Can't fault anything, just wish I had a bigger appetite. Photos were before we got salad, vegetables, chips and potatoes. Great selection of dishes on menu.

Another lovely meal at Tigh Na Mara. Whenever we are in the area this is always our go to eatery. Great food. Thoughtful and attentive staff plus dog friendly. There is a great beach just over the road.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 night's with work.i stayed in the Cabin.A cosy purpose built cabin in the grounds of the hotel.The food is excellent,well cooked and large portions.The staff are friendly and helpful.The bar is lively with a pool table and juke box.I have recommended this hotel to friends,and I will stay here again .A++++++Well recommended

We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening for my husband’s birthday meal. We had already paid for a dinner at the Portpatrick Hotel where we were staying but the food there had been so bad on the a Friday, I wasn’t prepared to risk it again. I’m so glad we came here instead.

I was on my yearly visit from Australia, back to my local roots, and tried out The Tigh Na Mara. Wow, fantastic quality food, with lovely presentation. It was so good, I went back there the following week! Also really nice service from the staff there.

Neil and his staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent from the chef Douglas. Highly recommended small town hotel with very old bar with fireplace. There you could meet the local's and chat with them. Thank you Neil for grate hospitality.

A small group of us had a lovely evening. Food was great, with good selection to suit everyone. The set menu is excellent value for money. Only negative was the waitress who got a order wrong, which didn't bother us, until we heard them say that we were wrong!

We have eaten here several times and cannot praise it highly enough. Yesterday we visited again with our little Llasa Apso dog, Bonnie. We were welcomed with open arms but in the Public Bar. The menu was the same as the restaurant and we settled into a comfortable table beside a lovely roaring fire. Bonnie made herself at home and visited everyone. Home - made soup to start, the cod and chips were great and the liver, bacon and sausage were outstanding. We will certainly be back

Myself wife and friends visited “the tig” on Friday night for a meal and a few drinks

Went twice while on holiday. We had mostly fish with an excellent fresh sea bass and a great seafood pancake.my friend had a great belly pork as well. Staff were friendly and attentative.restarant was comfortable and modern. Recommended.

We sat in the bar, due to our dog not being allowed in the restaurant. There was a lovely open fire. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and locals. The meal portions were large (including the children's) and very tasty. The food was well cooked and nice and hot. We had two courses each and were very full afterwards. The boys had a game of pool in the adjoining games room. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing food tonight at the Tig. Haggis and black pudding bon-bons with turnip puree and whiskey sauce were amazing as was the marrbury smoked salmon with caper berries - apparently! The steaks that followed were (as always) just perfection. Thank you chef - Bruce, we always like to acknowledge who makes our fav. Special mention to Sharon for looking after us so so well. Had neighbours there from SOL who also very much enjoyed their meal. Great night - staff were working their socks off on a very busy night.

I had the most wonderful meal here this week while staying in Stranraer for work. I went on Tuesday night turn returned last night as it was so good. Tiny little town with amazingly good food and lovely staff. Cannot recommend enough! Can't wait to return

meals cooked to perfection and beautifully presented, i loved the haggis and black pudding meat balls in whisky sauce starter, and the chicken stuffed with black pudding, yes i love black pudding lol, the fish was fresh and not frozen perfect, we went for the lunchtime specials well worth it

Had several meals (in the restaurant) here over the course of a week’s stay in the village. Great selection on the menu so able to have a different choice each night. All food was executed very well indeed....I would say this chef definintely knew his onions...and lots of other food besides. I would particularly recommend the silverside option as my favourite dish. Service generally good too and a generous selection on the drinks list as well.

We ate in the bar area as we had our two Labradors with us, the food was first class and generous (Try the haggis burger ) The service was good, and the locals were all pleasant and welcoming.

Great find in Sandhead. Looks small from outside but is like a tardiss. Great food and service. We had liver and steak pie at a very reasonable price. Great bar at front of hotel for a drink afterwards. Very friendly place.

Visited recently for birthday dinner. Outstanding food as always... Steaks are something special. We eat in many Glasgow restaurants and have got to say that the food here is well on par with them all. The tian of West coast crab and Norwegian prawns to start were amazing and can highly recommend. We are always well looked after by the whole team it it makes for a very special dining experience. Highly recommended this gem of a place. Can also recommend the afternoon beer garden which is a wonderful place to partake of a refreshment especially in the recent good spell of weather

An unplanned stop off at a Sandhead we came across this gem of a place! We were met with a warming welcome and a fabulous 2 course lunch. Great menu selection catering for all tastes, we opted for seafood. We will definitely return!

Lovely dinner. We chose from the early bird menu (served until 6-15pm) and ordered two courses for £16.99. The food was delicious and we would recommend. The only drawback was that service was slow.

We booked this hotel for lunch for 56 people to celebrate a special birthday and we were not left disappointed at all. The staff were so helpful and friendly and ensured we had everything we needed. There were some special requests due to taste preference, intolerances etc and these were catered for without any hassle. To cater for 56 people ensuring that they were all enjoying their meals at the same time takes real skill but it was no problem for the staff at Tigh-Na-Mara! Excellent value for money for both food and drinks - would highly recommend the smoked haddock filo for starter and the rose wine!! Will definitely return in the future!! We were here for a friend's 65th birthday meal, well what can i say, OUTSTANDING . The service from start to finish was superb .The whole group was well looked after by all the staff,food was excellent. Well done Tigh na Mara.

We had a fantastic family meal here. Food was delicious, service was amazing. Would recommend the house burger and the Penne Alla Nonna with King Prawns. There is a great atmosphere and the hotel and restaurant tastefully decorated. Definitely recommend a visit.

Excellent food, excellent service, can’t fault this place at all. Today we went to Tigh-na-Mara for a family meal to celebrate my dads 65th birthday. There were 50+ of us there. Because there were so many of us we pre-ordered our food. The staff made sure we were all there and seated comfortably before serving us our starters. The owner, waiting staff and bar staff made sure our food was served quickly and when we had finished each course they cleared tables of plates, cutlery and glasses. Our main course came out shortly after. We asked if we could wait ten minutes or so before they brought out desserts to allow the very good sized portions of our meal to settle. This was no problem at all. After all tables had been cleared again my nephew got my dads cake from the staff to bring out as we sang happy birthday to him. An extra special touch was when the owner came out playing happy birthday on his accordion as we sang. Thanks again to ALL staff, I would definitely recommend this place whether it was for a quiet meal for 2 or for a large party.

So we came up to Scotland the sands of Luce holiday park for the bank holiday weekend. We went to the restraunt on the morning to se if we could book a table and if dogs we're aloud yes outside in the bar so we said we could sit outside and she says we don't need to book so we came down for 5pm only to find out we could not eat as they were cooking for 150 people and when the kids started crying they came and shut the doors

Stayed nearby in a caravan and this was the local restaurant. Very expensive, especially when we had kids with us. Their food was definitely better than ours. Mine was really odd tbh and didn't even eat half. Wasnt asked if there was an issue when the plates were cleared. Slow service (again not helpful with kids there) won't be back i'm afraid.

A busy Tuesday early evening in August, presumably helped by good reviews. Waiting staff were quite young. Some inexperience showed during the wait for food (eg shouldnt go back to kitchen empty-handed if empty bottles/beer glasses, keep customers informed about long delays, forgot to bring water). Otherwise they were smart and friendly. The food and service were very slow. When it arrived it was pretty good on all fronts except veg side-dish portion which was a little over-cooked and crackling was too soft and chewy on the pork belly dish. Nice ambience and surroundings. Pricing fine.

Having had a magnificent meal at The Waterfront in Portpatrick on our first night in the mull of Galloway, we decided to try this restaurant for our second night and it turned out to be a big mistake. Although the food was fine, the service was appalling. We waited well over half an hour for our starters which only came after we had asked if they'd lost our order. Our mains then took quite a while to come - we got the meat/fish on our plates, followed a little later by our chips, then about 5 minutes later by our vegetables. We waited about 15 minutes after we had finished eating, hoping that someone would come and clear our table and ask if we wanted any dessert, before I gave in and went to the bar to see if I could get some service. Eventually I was asked if I wanted something and told the waiter I would like some service in terms of our table clearing and the dessert menus which did come before too long. I waited a while then had to go to the bar, where I ordered the dessert and asked for the bill to be brought. The dessert can fairly quickly, but no bill. So, after a while I went to the bar and had to ask again for the bill. I paid the bill, then did a few sums in my head before realising I had been over charged. So, I went back to the bar and had to painstakingly go through the bill to point out where it was wrong, even though they tried to convince me it was right. They did eventually give me a refund.

Having eaten and stayed in this fine establishment on many occasions last of which was just Friday past, today I and my friends were bitterly disappointed not by any food, but by some shoddy and lax attempts at service.

Excellent lunch yesterday at this lovely place ,All staff exceptionally good bar dining and of course chef!!!!Best roast beef ever!!Hubby had soup,and pudding delicious ,friends had battered fish, and macaroni cheese. Service excellent and very friendly highly recommend....2lunches at Portpatrick dissappointing...

Sunday roast as good as your mothers made. price very good. staff really attentive. we will be seeing you all again real soon.

Went here with friends for Sunday lunch great meal good price and great service. Would recommend the roast beef it just fell apart. If your in the area it's the place to visit what ever time of day.
