Having been a frequent diner at this restaurant under its many guises we booked for a long overdue evening out and couldn't have thought of a better venue - or so we thought. The bar and restaurant have had a new colour scheme and the feel of the restaurant was fresh and bright. However, it's now more informal - with settees to sit on whilst having your evening meal which seem to reflect the laid back service! The new decor includes shutters on the windows which seem odd when the view is something that should be celebrated and with that in mind the brighter colour scheme means more reflection off the glass so you're hard pressed to enjoy any view during an evening service.

This restaurant has lovely decor and staff are polite and professional. The food is good; would have been nice to have more than 2 vegetarian choices for mains but at least there was a choice! And they weren't the typical vegetarian meals you normally find on restaurant menus. The views of the bay are fabulous. My only gripe about this restaurant was we waited quite a while to be served and for our food to arrive. Other than that it was great :)

We went here for a family Sunday lunch and everyone thought the food was excellent. The traditional roasts were beautifully presented, but I tried a couple of the seafood options. Both the crab starter and the mackerel Nicoise salad were delicious and exactly the type of thing you want to eat when there is such a stunning view across the water to enjoy.

Took my girlfriend out for a birthday meal here and it was amazing! The service from the staff and waiters was probably the best I've ever experienced in a high-level restaurant! They treated her to a free glass of prosecco when we arrived and were always very friendly. Full marks! If you're staying at the St. David's Hotel it is ideally located. The food was absolutely delicious and there was a wide selection of wines and drinks. Then when our meal was over my girlfriend was surprised with a little box of chocolates to take home! The amazing view of the bay, the quality of the food and the incredible level of service made it a very special evening. Highly recommended!

This restaurant is worth a visit, we ate here on the Saturday and must say we weren't disappointed. We started the night off with a couple of cocktails which were very tasty, they had a offer two for £15. Our starters were ok, my scallops were overlooked. I have the prime cut T-bone steak which was the tastiest steak I have ever eaten. My wife had the lamb which was delicious. I rated this restaurant 5 star due to my steak. The staff were very accommodating.

The location is good and the service is extremely friendly and efficient, even very professional. However: we felt the prices are inflated and something in the meal left us inflated too. If the entree of scallops is always the same, don't have it (we told the chef) and it is expensive too. A £3.00 charge popped up on the bill for the red wine sauce with the steak. The meat was very good but the flat piece of cake with the dessert was unexpected. All in all we came away in doubtful mood, which was sad. The staff were first-class.

We ate in the restaurant on two evenings. The first night we made use of the 3 courses for £25 and the food and choice was excellent. The end night I ordered from the main menu and that too was excellent. Tip: The staff did not automatically give us the 3 courses for £25 menu, however, and we had to ask for it. Drinks were not over priced for a hotel such as this one - i.e. a bottle of wine was £23.The service in the restaurant on the first night was exceptional, though on the 2nd night - though it wasn't bad - it lacked the extra touches like someone placing the napkins on your knee and cleaning the table after the main course ready for dessert. It seems a small thing now , but the service before had been 5 star - the 2nd night 4. (If that makes sense!) The breakfast was excellent to us and we can not see why people complain. There was ample choice for all - vegetarians included - and service was spot on. The whole thing seems to work like a well oiled machine and staff, again were well trained and we didn't have to wait for anything even though it was extremely busy.

They showed us to the table which was by the window so had a lovely view of the bay.We had the demonstration of the selection of teas and were given the option to try all of them if we wished. I went for the breakfast tea but my mum tried some of the more exotic ones. We had the prosecco afternoon tea and was given the prosecco at the table. The food was brought out shortly after and it was delicious. Sandwiches were lovely, along with the scones and the selection of cakes! When booking we informed them that it was for my birthday. The food here was really excellent, nouvelle cuisine, so we were glad we had opted for the 3 course menu. Clearly they aim to offer something the host of chain restaurants in Mermaid Quay a few minutes away don't, but frankly offering it in the very bland and functional breakfast room, seemed discordant to us. Nevertheless, service was excellent. Sadly when it came to the bill, everything fell apart. We had bought a £50 "discount" voucher redeemable against the set menus, or towards the a la carte. Since the 3 course set menu cost £49.90 for two, we were hard put to spot where the "discount" came in. As related in our review of the hotel, this signed bill with tip was then completely ignored by the hotel reception and charged much higher. But the food was good, so just watch the bill.

The family ordered the fish & pork bell which were amazing but I went for the tofu burger ummm shouldn't have done that. They batter and deep fry the tofu so when it arrives and you cut into it is turns to mush - Sloppy mush. Service was slow, after being given the desert menu, it took 20 min for someone to come back and take our order. Had the bill push in my face after asking for it at the time of ordering deserts. Shoddy. The waiter did care to ask how our meals were so didn't get the opportunity to give them feedback on the night. Not worth the money overall.

We liked the look of the Sunday lunch menu, so reserved a table here last weekend. The food that we received was tasty, and the service was good, but the food was slow to arrive, and like our last visit, there appeared to be problems in the kitchen. We were in the restaurant for a little short of two hours, and only managed two courses. Of those courses, the soup arrived in a timely manner and was hot, and the mains arrived in a just about acceptable amount of time and were warmish. The desserts however, took an age to arrive (and, actually, only 2 out of 3 of them arrived at all), and were cold and congealed, clearly having been sat on the pass for a while. The kitchen seemed to develop an issue at around 2pm, with several tables appearing to have a long wait for desert, sending items back (I can't say whether this was due to incorrect items arriving, or to dishes being cold like ours), or no longer having time to eat their desserts due to theatre tickets and long waits. 2pm coincided with the beginning of arrivals for afternoon tea service, and this seems to be where the kitchen is attempting too much. I've experienced this from the other point of view (slow service to begin with during an afternoon tea visit), and had hoped that the issues would have been resolved. I fully understand that there's a lot going on at that point (the kitchen was dealing with Sunday lunch diners on various courses, a la carte diners on various courses, bar meals and afternoon tea prep, and the servers were stretched to capacity for the same reasons), and would like to suggest, again, that meal times and kitchen capacity be reassessed. The front of house staff we met were so lovely, I'm sure that the kitchen staff are equally lovely, and I hate that all of their excellent efforts are being let down by the systems (or lack thereof) in the kitchen or understaffing.

The men had the gentleman's afternoon tea, something I had not encountered before, and it was just fabulous. In fact, many ladies that do not have a sweet tooth (there may be one or two in Wales !) would love this. Service great with waitress taking a lot of trouble to go through the different teas available, and there were many. We stayed over two hours, were not rushed and everything we wanted was available. Fairly expensive I suppose but worth it for the quality of the food and tea or coffee (we also went for the afternoon tea with a tipple included) and the very enjoyable experience. Will do this again.

As a special treat, our family had Xmas lunch at the Tempus at Tides restaurant, on Xmas Day 2016. It was v expensive - but then eating out on Xmas day isn't cheap anywhere! I visited with my mother, my daughter and my partner. The Xmas menu had 4 courses, the second course was an apple sorbet which was delicious. Two of us chose the traditional turkey main course and two chose the beef main course. The portions were very generous and its a long time since a turkey dinner has had me beat - very regretfully I couldn't finish it off. For dessert two chose the whisky creme brulee, I chose the brioche bread and butter pudding and my daughter chose the trio of chocolate desserts (ice cream, cheesecake and fondant.) Coffee and tea was served with mini mince pies. All the food, without exception, was delicious and it was all well presented; I particularly liked that the service of each course was well paced so that we had time to chat and enjoy ourselves and the Xmassy atmosphere, The view out to Cardiff Bay added to the atmosphere too. We were able to park easily and without charge in the hotel car park and being Xmas day the roads were empty. The staff were incredibly friendly and our waiter was professional and attentive. The only criticism I have is that we were invited to attend earlier than our booking for a champagne reception, but in reality there was no "reception", we sat at a table in the (noisy) bar and ordered and by the time the drinks arrived, we were being shown to our table, so there had been no point in turning up early. However, this was a small blip and we have lovely memories of our Xmas day at St David's Spa.

My girlfriend had booked a treat for us with a meal at this 5* hotel restaurant. How disappointed we both were with what happened over the hour between our arrival at the hotel and our departure - yes, only an hour!We entered the restaurant and were kept waiting whilst someone went to seek out the restaurant manager to come and seat us. When he arrived, it was more like the arrival of the Queen of Sheba, such was his extremely over the top, exuberant and ridiculously flamboyant manner. The restaurant is poorly designed, being an extension of the public bar area, which was noisy and utterly unbecoming of a 5* establishment. The floor at our table still had half the previous diners meal on it. I had to ask for it to be cleaned. We had a gift voucher which entitled us to chose from the table d'hote menu. This we found to be limited and quite plain. It was so unexciting, I only had a starter and felt extremely guilty for not being able to eat with my girlfriend. One of the waiters was helpful in suggesting something off the a la carte menu for the same monetary sum - regretfully, everything was more expensive, therefore no choice at all! I quite fancied the cottage pie...........but not at £17.....extra for potatoes and veg taking it to £25!The restaurant manager was unable to tell us correctly where one of the special goat cheeses used in a dish, came from. He was right in that it was from Wales (the incorrectly spelt name was a giveaway), but the geography was way out. So was his inability to tell me what it meant in English - that might be looked upon as important seeing as this is a Welsh based restaurant with foreign guests wanting to know.....perhaps?!On leaving, the restaurant manager spoke quite flippantly to my girlfriend when retrieving her coat. I felt this was wholly necessary. As a proud Welshman, I felt disappointed that one of the few 5* hotel restaurants we have, should be so poor an example as this one. I would most certainly not recommend it to anyone and will not be dining there again.

Karolina was still there, still smiling and being fantastic, it looks like Megan has been promoted to a supervisor, which was lovely for her and all of the staff were great. Mr C had the steak and the chicken while I had the grilled halloumi and the mozzarella gnocchi. All of the food was delicious. Special mention must go to the pulled pork pate which was fantastic and also to the wonderful staff mentioned above and also to Muireann from the bar, who popped us in a booth until she could locate someone to find our table, gave us a menu and took our drinks order to keep us occupied. On a final note, nothing beats sitting overlooking Cardiff Bay drinking prosecco on holiday, while listening to the live music band with an excellent rendition of Tom Jones' 'Green Green Grass of home'. I want to start with the service, which was exceptional, given that we (I) had a dissapointing meal (we had lunch) In particular my main course, a pasta dish, was virtually inedible. The waiter noted however that I had abandoned the dish and enquired why. He immediately offered to get me an alternative, this was impressive, other lesser restaurants should take note! I declined, as my partner had almost finished her meal. Better was yet to come, the waiter told the duty manager who immediately came to apologise and again offer an alternative. We continued with our meal and on requesting the bill, were flattered to be offered our wine as complimentary compensation. Will we return? We shall reserve judgement on the kitchen, but would be prepared to try again. And it is worth a visit just for the location and the experience .

Met some friends for an early dinner. We wanted to have drinks outside enjoying the last of the days sunshine and the bar tender said he'd come out to take our drinks order - he didn't so after a while we had to go inside to order. The drinks did arrive a short time later. When we moved inside to eat we had a table next to the window so still felt like we were outside. Scallops to start were delicious served with chorizo and a pea puree but £16 for 3 was overpriced. I had a special on that evening a pork medallion stuffed and wrapped in parma ham, served with mash (blended with mustard and black pudding) which didn't look particularly appetising but tasted yummy and broccoli spears. My companions had the cod loin and steak and both said their dishes were delicious. We weren't able to sample the wine list as we were driving. The service was good as you'd it expect it to be.

Having already made a reservation to celebrate my birthday I was concerned to read recent reviews on TripAdvisor. I decided to take a chance and keep the reservation, and I am glad I did! From the moment we arrived we had a good evening, our waiter made sure our evening was perfect. The chef accommodated my mum's food allergies well, with the waiter able to talk mum through the gluten free options on menu with no problem. My steak was probably one of the best steaks I've eaten, especially with the Perl Las sauce. Really enjoyed the Welsh cheese slate at the end of the meal, nice selection of Welsh cheese! Only downside was the loud music as I couldn't hear my parents speak, but that was quickly rectified when I asked if it could be turned down slightly. I apologize - I didn't get the name of our great waiter, but please pass on my thanks to the impeccable French male waiter, I really appreciate the effort he went to to make my birthday evening special.

We booked last minute on the day and we were accommodated a few hours later. We arrived and the hotel carpark was full as there was a wedding taking place, so parked in the pay and display carpark. We were seated and offered a selection of tea. However once the food arrived we were utterly disappointed, there was a Wimbledon theme with the desserts, a battenburg- couldn't taste the almonds flavour in the marzipan, just tasted of sugar and the actual sponge had no taste. The "Eton mess" had no meringue, just some sponge topped with custard and cream. The same custard was also in the Strawberry and custard tart. And the French macaron - the cream filling was mint flavoured and there was a tang of lemon/lime in gel/jam form. The mint cream tasted like toothpaste and had the same texture, also the actual macaron was not the right texture either. The sandwiches were really bad too, both veg and non veg. The salmon sandwich was just a piece of salmon in bread, no cream cheese. The cucumber sandwich, was margarine and cucumber. The sandwiches were also very small in size and the scones cold and very dry, could barely swallow. Overall £25pp is a ridiculous price to pay for that standard food. There are many afternoon places in Cardiff and even in London that are cheaper and much better! Definately not going back ever again. The only redeeming factor was the view.

This restaurant is amazing. Mr C. and I went for a lovely anniversary weekend, stayed at the hotel and ate at the restaurant. The staff were amazing. Between us, we tried most of the menu and can thoroughly recommend it! We ate the salmon rilette, the balls of goats cheese, the terrine and the parfait - all of which were lovely. Then for our main course we had the gnocchi, the cauliflower and manchego cheese spring rolls, the duck and the steak over the course of the weekend. The profiteroles were also superb. We had the Besserat champagne which was perfect for pretty much everything on the menu - it isn't too dry so that's all good. Breakfasts were an equally fabulous affair - there is a real variety to choose from. We had the most lovely welcome for from all staff. Many thanks to Thomas and Ryan for looking after us, Megan for pouring our drinks and Karolina and Anna for taking excellent care of us at breakfast. With stunning views across the bay, this is a great place to experience.

Have eaten here twice now - once with my wife and once with colleagues. The lamb cutlets are absolutely superb - when in Wales why not sample the best of lamb? Welsh cheeses are also very good.On our first visit they had a Caerphilly cheese soufflé as a starter - and my one disappointment yesterday was it wasn't on the menu. Starters were a bit ordinary but the rest of the menu was superb.

The waiter asked us to let him know when we wanted our "warm scones" and he'd bring them out - I asked if I could have a cold scone because I hate it when the cream and jam melt together. He then answered that he would keep it as cold as he could, but they would be a bit warm "because they are frozen".I couldnt' believe that he admitted this, a five star resort serving frozen scones?? Disgraceful. Afternoon tea itself was really average, the scones were tiny too. Disappointing.Average service, they mixed up our coats and I almost left without my scarf because they didnt give it to me.Really disappointed.

I live near this hotel and pass it a few time a week, thus for our 25th anniversary I thought I would book Mrs T in there for a surprise afternoon tea. I contacted this hotel to book and to arrange a simple request for Mrs T, I was very surprised to be told NO we can't do that, we only have some part time staff who have very basic basic training, we do not have the skills. Very interesting response, especially when you consider that my request was for the Barista to teach Mrs T to make the perfect Flat White Coffee! I ended the call very frustrated. I then spoke to the Park Plaza in the City Centre, who answered yes of course, no problem, we'll get straight on it. What a difference. Our afternoon at the Park Plaza was amazing, they spoilt us both. Wake up St David's, your are starting to believe your own press - very poor service.

Was given a groupon voucher for 2 so took our partners for an evening meal. From start to finish the service was very poor. Part of our deal included 2 glasses of prosecco. We ordered other drinks which didn't arrive promptly but no prosecco. We had to ask for the prosecco which still didn't arrive promptly. There was a very long wait for the food, meanwhile we asked for the wine list which didn't arrive. My husband then went to the bar to order a bottle of house white. This eventually arrived, with a grudging 'sorry for the confusion' from the waitress. What confusion?!! Simple request for wine list ignored.Eventually the food arrived, nothing to write home about, overpriced and underwhelming. We were then left for the duration of our visit, no one asked if our meal was ok or if we wanted anything else. The waitress served everything curtly and turned on her heel marching quickly away after every visit. This was not a 'free meal' by any means, our bill was £85 in addition to the price of the original groupon vouchers. 4 of us have dined out for less and received a far better level of attention than this. We were not made to feel welcome at all. It was not a particularly busy night at the restaurant and I feel there was no excuse for this abysmal service. This is the first time we've been to this restaurant and, had our experience been more positive, we definitely would have liked to return again as it is close, convenient and in a prime location. This, however, will not be happening any time in the future.,

This restaurant is abysmal. When we went, the atmosphere was overwhelmed by a table of young footballers and their wags, which made for a noisy and loutish ambience. This was topped by poor drinks service (messing up the drinks) and the kitchen taking multiple attempts to get a steak cooked to the correct temperature. And serving a steak with a grilled mushroom and grilled tomato for dinner is at worst misguided, at best breakfast...

My mum, sister and I went for afternoon tea here on a Sunday afternoon. The greeting we received was warm but that was as good as the experience got. I had previously stated our dietary requirements at the time of booking however these didn't seem to be noted as we were asked on being seated if we had any. No special alternatives were provided just certain sandwiches were left out. Therefore the only sandwiches we had were chewy beef and plain boring ham. Not what you expect at a 5 star hotel. The cakes were nothing special at all and the flavours were not ones that would appeal to everyone. The scones were lovely however miniature and the jam was a small breakfast jar. Not what you would expect at all from a hotel like this. It would be an idea to have your afternoon tea menu on your website for people to know what to expect. If I had known the selection of sandwiches/cakes in advance I probably would have booked elsewhere. The Celtic manor afternoon tea is far nicer than this for only an extra few pounds per person. I also saw pictures of what the afternoon tea was like back in 2012, I wish it was as good as it looked back then! A very different story to what is offered now!

Guided to our table, each chair pulled out for myself and daughters as he welcomed us informing us what treats were in store.David presented us with samples of tea we could choose from explaining the history of each one. Once we had choosen he took our order and walked away returning within minutes wth a chilled glass of presseco for us.The view from the restaurant was breathtaking even with the rain outside.David was very attentive throughout our meal not just to us but to all the customers in the restaurant. The sandwiches, desserts and scones were outstanding. Having spent most of the day in the spa for my 50th Birthday David topped it off with his smile, manners, attentiveness making sure we relaxed throughout our time in the restaurant. My friend and I wanted a cocktail so we headed to the bar. We were unsure if orders were being taken by the staff around many of the tables or if we were to order at the bar. After 5 or so minutes of waiting we got a drinks menu off another table and ordered our drinks from a waitress who was at the bar. There was 1 man serving behind the bar about 5 waiters and waitresses collecting orders and serving drinks to tables and 2 managers in the bar area. We waited another 10 minutes before deciding to leave giving up on getting our cocktails any time soon. Poor service! I expect to order a cocktail and it be made. Plenty of staff around but inefficient.

Volvimos a visitar nuestro viejo amigo el North Star. La decoración peculiar ha sido domesticada en la mediocridad, y el menú interesante ha desaparecido completamente, reemplazados por lo que sólo puede ser descrito como promedio comida de pub.
