Three Tuns in Powys

We had dinner or Friday night - service was great and overall experience very good. We had linguini and pizza, a bottle of red and mixed olives to start. Interesting local produce/ingredients on the menu. Everything tasty (although missing something - couldn’t quite put our finger on what exactly), and the service was prompt and hospitable. The space has some lovely nooks and crannies, and a jolly fire on the pub side. Will be glad to go back.

Popped in for a Sunday roast. Some nice ales on tap and a good selection of drinks overall, food was tasty and reasonably priced. Knocked a star off as saw on the way out the hygiene rating is only a one star.

A delicious pizza and a pint in this cosy pub, a great start to our visit to the area.

Didn't have any food as arrived just before 12pm to celebrate New Year! Was busy, full of excited students, music and fun! Lovely cider drank then hello New Year! Then rushed back to Winforton through the flooded roads! :) As obviously we couldn't stay any longer due to the river flowing over its banks! :)

A chaotic lunchtime experience. We were pointed to a table after standing around for a few minutes, but that’s where the service ended. Cleaning products and empty bottles were left standing on the sticky table, and we never got to see a menu. The only interaction we got in 30 minutes was a server walking by and tossing a couple of packets of vinegar on top of a cleaning rag in front of us. We got up and went somewhere else.

Hadn't expected much as it was off season and quiet, however the service was efficient and good and the food was very tasty! A lovely variety of seating arrangements too for all occasions. Pizza was perfectly topped!

I genuinely old pub in the centre of Hay on Wye.

We hadn't been in ages for a roast but decided to visit on Sunday. How glad were we! The Roast was excellent, beef especially was soft and tender and some of the best I've had. Service was ok but petered out once we had eaten and dessert menus were left in front of us for 30 minutes until we decided we'd just skip it and get the bill and go home to digest. We'll be back soon.

Was told by a glum lady in a shop that you can't get a decent pub dinner in Hay. They were wrong. Genuinely lovely roast dinner in front of an open fire. Make sure you order the extra Yorkshire pudding, you're worth it.

Great food and reasonably priced.

The Appallingly rude service from our waitress didn't help the fact that the quality of the food was mediocre. In a town that offers a plethora of good restaurants, you'd do well to avoid this one.

Stumbled across this lovely pub while taking mum and gf out for the day. This was my Bulgarian girlfriend's first Sunday roast so I was determined to make sure it was a good one, and we weren't disappointed. Food/beer was delicious, service was outstanding and the atmosphere was wonderful. Highly recommended.

Great location, but tasteless food. The nduja pizza was nice enough, if not a little bland, but the salmon tagliatelle didn’t even have salt in it. I had to add some chili oil and salt in there and it just barely helped! Nice atmosphere though, I’ll give it that. The service was alright, but a little chilly- I had a nagging feeling it had to do with the fact that we were the only people of colour in the entire place!

Great pub, with friendly staff. However our food wasn't great. The tagliatelle was so overcooked it was pretty soggy, and the sauce was watery and bland. We'd expected it creamier and more tasteful. The pork within the pasta was nice. Overall, pretty bland and soggy. But the starter (charcuterie platter) was nice. Wouldn't go back to eat. I'll be sticking to just drinks on what was a nice atmosphere and cosy pub

Really lovely staff, some good beers. Plenty of room inside and out. The building history is phenomenal. The only things that let it down slightly was the fairly unsympathetic furniture throughout and a fairly narrow selection of beers. We will be back to try the food!

Bruschetta was really good and so were the mains.

The food was great. The portion sizes were good. I had the Seafood Tagliatelle. I was very good, as was my friends pizza. The base was perfect. They didn't hang around. Food was served within 20 mins.

Great pub atmosphere and friendly staff. Food is sub-par and over priced for the quality and frankly not at all Italian.

Shame…. We called 3 times to get a table and twice was told no more bookings so thought must be good. We was greeted by a lovely lady behind the bar who even recommended some beers. That was the end of the greatness to be honest. Ordered some bruschetta which should be on toasted bread but was actually on thick cut un toasted bread so soggy. And a sharing board which was ok not amazing. Myself and my wife ordered pizza which was so undercooked it was like a thick pancake base. The service was shocking but seemed the poor young lad was on his own so when he came and took the pizza back we just wanted to get out of there which was a shame because when we left there were people downstairs with pizza that looked amazing.

Fantastic little pub with great atmosphere, ales and staff. The building itself is superb and almost feels like a museum exhibit in places. Genuine 1600's woodwork and lath & plaster adorns the stairs to the first floor where there are more tables available among the timber roof beams. Prices are very reasonable and comparing this pub to others in Hay, I really can't understand why this isn't rated as No. 1.

Amazing food, great atmosphere and brilliant service. Staff were friendly and good to talk to. Will definitely be popping in when we're down that way again!

Had the Rodfather pizza, a margarita and a pasta dish. Between us and all 3 were outstanding. Quick service and all the young bar staff were super helpful and friendly. Highly recommended for pizza. Best I’ve had in ages.

It's a nice place. Not a lot of choice locally and can fill up so if you think you might be eating here it's wisest to book.

Lovely, delicious (see photos!). We started with the charcuterie platter, which was very good. Then entrees, which were also very good. We got the Nduya Linguini, the White Ragu Tagliatelle, and the Chicken Pizza. We were very happy with all of them.

Catered for our party of 20, all food served quickly and piping hot. My chips were the best I ever had in a restaurant 😋. All the other people in our group said the food was delicious and the staff could have not been more helpful!

A central pub with well kept ales at good prices and a pleasant interior. The garden was full on a lovely sunny day, but looked nothing special. Friendly bar staff. We didn't try the food, so can't comment on it. Worth a look if you are in the area.

Pub ok, stayed in the beer garden as we had our dog. Could be overhauled as the inside was decorated nicely. Drinks fine, staff and other customers very friendly. Fine for a quick pint.

We had a lovely lunch here today, meeting up with friends we hadn't seen for ages. The Three Tuns rose to the occasion. Lovely food, helpful and pleasant staff and good atmosphere. Warmly recommended.

Only stopped for a drink , but the barmaid was very friendly and the place homely and comfortable. Canned music was good too!

After finishing a stretch of the Offas Dyke, my mother and I fell into this pub during the festival. It felt like refuge from the business of the festival with its relaxed atmosphere. I was given great drink recommendations and very much enjoyed sitting out in the yard under canopy. We came back for food that evening, which was delicious. Excellent service, very welcoming and great quality food and drink. Old interesting building to boot!

We were visiting for the Hey festival - during a walk around the town we stopped in for drinks. The staff were very friendly.

I did not want to write a review and instead deal with things discreetly. However, having received no response to an email I sent on Tuesday 30.05.2023 I have to say this. Dear would-be diners, avoid the food in this place at all costs especially, their take on faux Italian dishes. This is of course unless you want severe food poisoning.

ABSOLUTELY FAB! Came here for a delicious Sunday Roast. Loads of vegetables. Cauliflower Cheese as standard! Possibly the best Yorkshire Pudding I've ever had (huge, mildly crispy on top, squidgy in the middle). Gorgeous building (16th Century I believe?) vintage but clean and well looked after. Gorgeous twinkly lights throughout. Lovely staff. We hadn't booked but a member of staff went to check if we could squeeze in before a booking and we could! Very reasonable prices too!

Refurbished 16th century Tafarn with local ales and lagers. The food looked very tasty too

Stopped in for dinner when visiting the region. Service from Ellie was very friendly and efficient, and we enjoyed chatting with her. The food was good without being great. Pizza wasn't the best we have eaten, and we discovered why bruschetta was 3 for £7, because they were bite size at best (and served on untoasted bread). An ok evening was then spoilt when a fight broke out upstairs. There didn't appear to be any effort by staff to remove those fighting, so it was a good excuse to pay the bill and leave. Overall experience was average, and we probably wouldn't return if in the area.

Beer is solid in here but the service was not that great

Quaint from the outside but spacious on the inside. Good choice of ale, menu not too large but plenty of choice. Food was excellent in quality and quantity. Staff were friendly and very accommodating.

Called in on the off chance , only had a drink but the beer was exellent , the service friendly, good atmosphere .

Food was fab but the service was very slow. Took ages to take our drinks order then even longer to take our food order. Was a little wait for the food to come out but not horrendous. No one came to check on us so we had to go to the bar to ask for more drinks/sauces. No one asked if we wanted a pudding. They also didn’t bring us our bill and when we tried to pay at the bar they sent us back to our table where we had to wait longer for someone to bring us our bill. Then we had to wait ages for them to come bring a card machine. If they’d been more attentive we probably would’ve ordered a couple more bottles of wine and definitely would’ve ordered puddings.

Kiyah and Ellie were lovely and helpful members of staff, they do this place proud. Great food and selection of ales. Would highly recommend.

Excellent Sunday roast, booking is important.

Really old 16th-century pub with good food, nice atmosphere, and low ceilings. I banged my head a few times, so my recollection of this place may vary.

They do a fantastic job. A very beautiful, very clean place. The atmosphere is great and the staff really nice. I’ll be back.

The epitome of a cosy pub, with excellent service and delicious food. The team were incredibly efficient and attentive, and I would happily sit and eat an entire bowl of the mashed potatoes, they were truly that delicious. Would rate a 6 if we could, definitely recommend.

Nice place, lovely staff, food.......I shall be polite. 😟 Very disappointing christmas meal, made more so on discovering that what we were paying extra for, was also being offered as part of the regular Sunday lunch menu. Plates were cold, roast potatoes were yellow & non crispy & the cauliflower cheese was actually cauliflower in a tasteless white sauce, what's that about? 🤷‍♀️ I shan't go on as it saddens me to think of it. Unfortunately I've had some disappointing meals in my time, but this one has gone straight to number 1! Such a shame. 🤦‍♀️

Really cool pub with excellent food and lovely helpful staff. Their menu is also available as takeaway. I recommend their pizzas, absolutely delicious. So fresh with a taste sensation of ingredients. Best pizza we've ever eaten in the UK!! Also dog friendly which is a bonus.

Food was fantastic. Turned up on a Sunday without booking and they fitted us in friendly staff can't fault..

The staff were very hospitable when our group of around 25 motorcyclists turned up a few weeks ago on day of the Queen’s funeral. Actually they were the only place in town open in the afternoon, so they were extremely busy, but looked after us brilliantly. We also saw the procession on the TV which was a bonus. Thank you!
