The pork was lovely, but the vegetables were just to al dente /raw for my liking so could not eat them! The potatoes were nice. It says like most restaurants Gluten Free Option available!! No Yorkshire pudding, that’s not an option?’in my mind? The gravy was gluten free! That was lucky!

We hadn’t eaten here since covid but returned with family for Sunday lunch. It was outstanding the service and food,;choice on menu, quantity and price. Our faith has been restored having eliminated so many local establishments of late. Highly recommend and shall definitely go back.

Where to start... My wife and I stayed the night before boarding a cruise in Dover. We arrived later than we expected (at the beginning of dinner service), and the restaurant was fully booked for the night. Nic said that he would seat us if we wanted and his food was delicious. I've traveled 1/2 the world and always want traditional local food, so when I saw Pigeon Salad, it was a no-brainer, Nic's culinary skills confirmed it. 5 Stars The next day we needed to get to Dover for our cruise and all the cabs were booked for the remembrance ceremony of the bombing of the Royal Marine barracks, so Eve gave us a ride to the port in her car. How are we supposed to rate their way above and beyond service?? In a short answer, you can't. 10 out of 10 Oh, I forgot about the traditional English breakfast Nic fixed for us in the morning. Everything was exactly what I had invisioned and more. Nic and Eve showed us why they are superhosts!!

A five minute stroll along from the pier on the seafront, lovely old building, welcoming and casual dining with local art on the walls, full bar available. This is such a relaxing family business, friendly and helpful service with home cooked food using local produce. We can only comment on the traditional Sunday lunch, which was absolutely perfect, followed by exceptional deserts. The restaurant offers, 2/3 course plat du jour options at a reasonable price. This is without doubt the best restaurant/ pub Sunday lunch we had had in years . Just exceptional, ambiance, food, service.

Only opens Friday Saturday and Sunday lunch. Menu changes weekly, unbelievable value, 3 courses currently £19. Maximum 30 people, everything cooked from fresh. Have visited a couple of times recently, and have always been impressed with the food, presentation and taste. Friendly service. Nice log fire topped up by owner on a cold day yesterday. Rather than opening 5 days a week, I believe his concept works well. Very enjoyable atmosphere, we will be returning.

We always thoroughly enjoy the delicious food at The Three Compasses. There is a wide variety of tasty food to choose from which is cooked from scratch. If you’re looking for somewhere nice with a warm welcome from the staff this is the place to eat though be sure to book a table in advance.

Can’t believe how long it has taken us to try The Three Compasses. We were lucky to take over a cancellation and were immediately made to feel welcome. The food was quite excellent and the bill was surprisingly small. The service was understated but efficient. We almost decided not to write a review but this restaurant is too good to selfishly keep to oneself.

We booked this lovely little restaurant for my daughter's bridal shower for the relatives and friends who could not attend boozy hen do, The wait staff were lovely and went above and beyond to ensure we all got what we wanted as some wanted slight changes to advertised set meal, the food was lovely, beautiful home cooked Sunday meals although portion sizes were huge, the desserts were fantastic too. They did not rush us to finish and leave which was great, so we had time to have a relaxed chat and giggle after eating. The prices were very reasonable too. Can't recommend this place enough, and will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you.

This is a favourite restaurant which has adapted to the Coronavirus lockdown by offering a weekend takeaway service with the option of delivery for the housebound. Finding myself alone for the Easter weekend I decided to treat myself for Sunday lunch, and this had proved to be a tonic beyond value. I chose a starter of local pigeon with a creamy cabbage sauce followed by lamb shank in red wine with vegetables and mash.It was delivered on the dot by a friendly lady - very important if one is isolated. The lamb was as tender as could be, the pigeon gamey and the seasonal vegetables cooked to perfection. It all arrived hot but I put the lamb in the microwave for a couple of minutes while I enjoyed the pigeon. Very generous helpings and excellent value. I congratulate the 3 Compasses for their initiative, wish them all the best in these difficult times and thank them for brightening my day.

Our second visit to this well run restaurant, excellent choice on the menu, good house wine and good service.

We are so pleased and happy to support the Three Compasses in such difficult Covid 19 times and are delighted they have decided to offer their delicious meals on a takeaway basis. On Friday we had a lovely chicken curry and on Saturday the beef shin, followed by cranachan. I know we are all having to stay in but we are looking forward to more great meals this weekend. Always made welcome and their Friday, Saturday menu is very good value. Plenty of choice on the set menu and they also have an a la carte menu as well.

Both chaps were well satisfied with their portions and the quality of the food was exceptional. One of our party is gluten free and had a lovely sea bass dish. We have been regularly eating at this establishment and the Friday & Saturday weekly changing menus are delicious. Two courses £9.95, or three if you prefer all very reasonably priced for delicious food. Extra vegetables can be added at a small cost if you prefer a larger meal. The staff are very helpful & friendly and nothing is too much trouble. This restaurant is a short walk along the seafront and reservations are highly recommended as it gets very busy. Parking available opposite. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I booked into this wonderful place for a Sunday lunch, we don't get many Sundays together so are always looking for somewhere extra special in which to spend some quality time together. The decor is nice and light and airy, unlike a lot of restaurants which are to be honest a bit gloomy. The tables are nicely spaced out and not crammed together to fit the maximum amount of people in. We were greeted with a smile by our waitress who gave us a choice of tables and invited us to choose. There are complimentary olives and lots of delicious 100% baked on the premises bread rolls on offer which shouldn't be missed. we both had Pigeon breast starter which was to die for, and a mix of short rib beef and roast beef mains which were melt in the mouth fantastic. We both had deserts too which rounded off a perfect afternoon. There were a good selection of beers and wines on offer and nobody in the whole place had to ask for a drink.We are definitely going to visit this place again soon and quite honestly cannot wait.The staff are all kind, considerate and attentive and I cannot understand how earlier reports are to the contrary.Thank you to everyone at TTC for making our visit so fabulously emjoyable.

We often visit the three compasses for special occasions as it really is a treat. The staff are always so hospitable, warm and humorous.

On our first visit to Deal we came across the three compasses ,and booked for Lunch . I don't often see something that makes me want to book, but this looked really good, and it didn't disappoint! We both had the vegetarian linguini which was excellent .I had the vegetarian haggis which was fabulously presented .Potatoes and Swede really light and fluffy ,excellent for a starter.Staff were attentive and pleasant ,really nice atmosphere. We hadn’t been to this establishment for some time and decided to go for Sunday lunch last weekend. We had a delicious meal of roast beef with a nice selection of well prepared and nicely cooked vegetables. The service was excellent and the staff were most helpful. We hadn't visited this restaurant for some years having been put off by poor customer service when 2 meals were overcooked and we received no apology nor were offered replacements. On this occasion we visited with friends, wishing to give it another go. We were not disappointed. The meal was one of the best we have had, lovely fresh vegetables which some places in town hardly offer. Our party of 5 all chose different mains, two had the same starter whilst the other three chose different items. The portions were very generous on both courses. The wine wasn't expensive either. The desserts didn't disappoint . We weren't hurried and the service was good. We will definately visit again, our faith in the Compasses was restored!

starter were Pickled Herring and Ham Hock, best starters ever, mains were Roast Salmon and Lamb Shank, again best ever, and a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio , so food was excellent and staff were excellent as always.

Brilliant service and a warm welcome.

The food here is great however the service leaves a lot to be desired (my rating is reflective of the service and definitely not the quality of the food). It is slightly shambolic and frenetic which in turn makes you, as a diner, feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately on a couple of occasions the freneticism resulted in rather curt, bordering on rude, responses from our waiter when we were asking for things that had either already been asked for once or were simply required e.g. a knife and fork for one of the party to eat their main course. My advice would be - more haste, less speed!

The Compasses is always good. The menu changes regularly, the wine is great value, service friendly and the food is lovely, with generous portions. Highly recommended!

Had the smoked herring to start, shoulder of lamb main, my wife had place and slow roast belly pork for main, my two courses were probably the best meal I have had at this restaurant, but on saying that we always have a very special meal. and staff are excellent and very attentive.

My partner and I decided to walk from Sandwich to Deal and got a bit lost. Cut a long story short we got lost and ended up walking 8 miles. Needed some refreshments and after looking in other pubs as we entered Deal, this establishment looked more refined. Got talking to Nick the owner about sailing and stayed a bit longer than we anticipated. Great cold beer and we will be back for a visit.

This unpretentious little gem is located on the seafront and offers top class meals in a convivial atmosphere. Patronised mainly by locals, it is lively and friendly, The food is well prepared and fresh (bread is baked twice a day and delicious) and the chef makes regular buying trips across the channel to ensure top quality produce. Great for a family lunch or a quiet late night dinner if you want to enjoy the excellent house wine and a chat.

Recommended by friends, and we weren't disappointed. Make sure you go hungry if you go for the Sunday Lunch. Great value, good selection of drinks, and good service.

This was our "big night out" in Deal. Staying in a hotel where we were underwhelmed by the dinner menu, this was the first night of our stay when the Three Compasses was open in the evening. Quiet trade, some drinkers at the bar and only another four or six diners, but super service, great food, good carafe of wine and although pretty empty I liked the ambiance. When we return to Deal, which we will, we will organise it so we can go here for more than one evening's dining....

Having not been to this restaurant for around 7 years I was unsure what to expect, as their are so many good food places in Deal currently. However I was presently surprised and my expectations were exceeded all other members of our party were extremely happy with their food and I wouldn't hesitate to book up to go again.

As ever the quality of the food is excellent. We had scallop to start and then calves liver and sea bass. Syrup sponge my favourite followed and the meal was accompanied by the lovely red house wine.

A local secret. It is easy to walk past as it does not look like a pub,and only opens Thurs-Sun. The interior is nicely decorated and comfortable. The set menu has very good quality food at an amazing price. A nice atmosphere.

Our first visit to this little tucked away treat very close to the sea front in Deal.

We had booked a table for 4 people. On arrival atmosphere good and staff friendly. However the waiter become very over friendly and was rude at certain times throughout the evening. We had told them about the 2 allergies when we booked and we was told they could cater for them. However not the case only 1 starter available and 1 main available.

Delightful atmosphere and staff. Such delicious food too! Friday, Saturday, Sunday set menu was excellent with two and three course selection available. Totally recommend this restaurant, you would be advised to make a reservation for either lunch or supper.

As ever had an excellent meal. Pigeon breast followed by lamb shank and my partner scallop followed by sea bass. Absolutely first class and served with lots of fresh vegetables. I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, so went with daughter for pre-Christmas lunch on a Friday. The special menu gave a good selection of choices for each course and the food was delicious. We chose three courses and had non alcoholic drinks but the cost was under £35 for two - great value for money. The surroundings are elegant and fresh and the welcome and service warm and friendly. We booked for 12 noon and lingered over coffee until after 2 pm, not feeling rushed to leave. Sea views a bonus! Highly recommended.

This seafront restaurant has an excellent and very reasonable lunch menu. Not surprisingly it was full today with Lisa, a friendly and extremely efficient lady, serving all tables. Starters and main courses were just the right size and left a little space for pudding. Coffee machine out of order today so missed out on my espresso but will definitely be returning.

A lovely place...four of us went on Friday night. Surprisingly quiet for such amazing food. Great scallops on black pudding wrapped in bacon for starters. A good selection of wines. We will most definitely be back.

Popped in for Sunday lunch, the roast beef was amazing and melted in your mouth. The tarte tatin dessert was particularly good and of a nice size. The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff friendly and helpful. We will certainly be back again.

Our third visit and again another triumph! Starters were scallops, crab linguini and pigeon followed by sea bass and confit de canard. Delicious food great service. Bonus is the freshly baked rolls (cheese our favourite) and the house wine (served in carafes) is very palatable and reasonably priced by the carafe. Deserts were syrup sponge and custard and plum and apple tart. Looking forward to our next visit!

Booked a table for four on a Thursday evening. Service was excellent but the meal was very disappointing. Ham hock terrine was fridge cold & although the egg was nicely poached the flavour was lost by the greasy 'straw' potato garnish. The lamb shanks were under seasoned and sat un-appetizingly on the plates with rice floating in a watery liquid. My plum tart, served cold, was stodgy. A further main course of fillet steak was, I am told, tasteless. Such a shame as the restaurant is in such a nice area overlooking the sea, central to Deal and is most comfortable.

We stayed overnight before a trip to France. The food and room were excellent, and the proprietors friendly and completely relaxed. I would thoroughly recommend this place. Explore the town's conservation area. One of the best preserved examples of a small Georgian town I have come across, with plenty of history and stories to tell.

The octopus salad had a lovely chilli bite to it. Mains were braised steak and mutton. I have never eaten mutton and it simply melted in your mouth! Lovely selection of vegetables, delicious home baked rolls and a carafe of water. We had the house wine both rose and red which were very palatable and extremely good value. Beware the portions are large so make sure you go hungry! We are already looking forward to our next visit!!
