Lovely tea room with dog friendly seating indoors and outdoors. Staff really friendly and food was good value.

Small visitor centre - couldn't believe how inexpensive the coffee/tea was.

Excellent walk along the derwent river ending with a cuppa and sandwich in the cafe at the top of the hill, well worth a visit

All one needs to know about what wildlife is about and where to find it. Full of local information regarding walks etc. Nice little cafe with meals and snacks, drinks of all kinds plus ice cream. Service is excellent Update Room inside is restricted but in fine weather there is ample space outside for picnics Always have your binoculars with you to watch the birds while you eat Open 10 til 4 every day 16th Mar 23 Weather fair sun shining visited 14.30 Timed it well 4 folks outside but only one customer inside, but every other table piled high with used dishes. Had the place been busy? Yes! and still a smile and cheery greeting from the staff as I walked in. Numerous birds about whilst I was there. 08072023 1405 Last of the lunch time rush finishing when I arrived Two smiling greeting s and a Bacon Butty on the table within minutes. Then the place filled up again. That's how it goes. Just a couple in front of me but 3 more followed before I sat down. This on a day when the waitress expected a quiet day- the weather was awful. But still a cheery greeting was given to all 20 Feb Spring like day Same excellent service. Quiet when I went in, folks just finishing but a steady trickle followed me. Always a pleasure to visit.

Nice walk, if you go early you have a good chance if spotting the local deer, have also seen a fox and loads of Grey Squirrel. Bluebell's beautiful around May, currently loads of Foxgloves, wild Roses and Honeysuckle.

Lovely woods for a walk, then a restorative snack in the cafe. Good choice of sandwiches soup cakes etc, & great cheese and chive scones. Dog friendly, and a very warm welcome from the team.

Beautiful wild nature at its best with hides and a great cafe. Various walks from easy to extreme aswell as wooden art structures of the animals in that habitat. Great day out

This is a fantastic place to visit, great walks, a woodland sculpture trail, dog friendly and cycle routes, has all bases covered. Well worth a visit.

Parking isn't great, not many spaces but the walk and cafe are good.

Durban's valley is a 16 mile Discovery for anyone in the northeast. He has not seen and magnificent greenbelt of the west side here it is.... I say East is least and west is best. Well this is the best of the East.

We take the dogs to Thornley woods nearly every week. Nice food. Friendly service, and very dog friendly ..

Little parking but can get on to the derwent walk from there.

Small seating area but an extensive menu and good value for money too. Friendly ,hard working staff -lovely bacon bap and a delicious slice of Rolo cake .Yum!Dogs welcome and they were given treats too !10/10

Visited today with our dog and have to say, the staff were so lovely. It was busy but well organised and they let us know there would be a little wait for our food before we ordered as there had been a rush on which I appreciated. They provide complimentary dog treats and water and there are free activity sheets and sculpture trail booklets for kids as well as lots of wildlife info. Our food was fab - all homemade. A slice of corned beef pie with beens, cheese and chorizo toastie with crisps, 2 choc orange brownies and 2 drinks for £15 was excellent value. We will try and pop in more regularly.

Great walk, with lots of wild life.....keep your eyes on the sky and you may see some red kites flying about.

Always enjoy coming here. The sausage and bacon sarnie is second to none. Friendly people, plenty of information on the area. Very popular. Also, some good walking routes.

I visited this place 20 years ago and it has had so much work done to it since then as I visited it last week and it's incredible what has been done to that whole area. Now there's lots of choice of pathways and walks now connecting with one another. What an amazing achievement for those who have clearly transformed this area into another Garden of Eden. This place was the stuff of childhood dreams but it's thousands of times better now and I strongly recommend this place to everyone and anyone, it's a real treat.

Regularly stop here following a walk around Derwenthaugh Country Park. Good range of food and snacks, reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Books and other wildlife information available. Outside seating for those warmer days. Coffee isn't so good. Think it's an instant version with milk powder already added. The 5 stars are for the bacon butties.

Great location, found not too far from the Derwent walk and stopped in for respite before heading home. Great food at decent prices, massively recommend the sausage sandwich, Quality ingredients. Also purchased some summer fruits jam which has been delighful

What a beautiful spot. Perfect for whiling away a day walking through the woods and meadows, or paddling in the river. The day my daughters and I visited, the weather was glorious, but I felt like we almost had the place to ourselves. If you haven't been, go. Go now.

A cup of salted caramel coffee, cheese and onion toastie with crisps and 5 sausages for the dogs. £8 all in. Can’t be robbed.

Lovely little place. Cafe is dog friendly and very reasonably priced. Parking can be limited. The sign posted walls are very good, with lots of wildlife to see. Volunteer staff very helpful and knowledgeable too.

The trails are quite long. I advise picking up a map at the centres as it can get confusing navigating your way.

Great place start your walk. So many routes you can take and come back for a cuppa and cake.

Meet regularly with friends, the cafe offers excellent food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Local wildlife info. With a sculpture trail & nature reserve. Complete with local volunteer countryside rangers on hand for any advice

The cafe serves really good bacon/sausage baps and really good value for money. The bird hide across the road is good for those who love bird watching although it's a good idea to take a little bird seed with you just in case the feeders are empty. Lots of different walks to do and great for dogs too!

Fabulous walks with great views. A lot of birds to tick off your list if you're a twitcher. A great little tea room within the visitor centre offering a good selection of treats to accompany a cuppa to finish off your day perfectly

This park is best in this country, very clean and safe for kids ,older people, families, you can ride on pushbikes,walking, hijacking, etc you can do what you want to chill out,getting rest ,a lots forest and home animals,birds,best coffee what even had from long time,friendly staff😘😘😘thank you for free cake,was delicious 😋😛😘 just what I think on my opinion needs some more good tourists,tracks are cleaned and clean from bad tourists what leave plastic, cans and rest of rubbish...definitely recommend to take day out 😁😁😁😇😇😇🥰🥰🥰

Great place to start from excellent information on the surrounding area very friendly staff

We were heading for Gibside (it was closed) and came across Thornley Woodlands Cafe purely by accident, it was a true gem friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent as were the staff, best bacon sandwich we have had for a while.

First visit was during lockdown when only takeaway was available and this was well managed, menu was very limited obviously but still a nice experience sitting outside in the woodland to have coffee and scones. Last visit it was fully open again and we enjoyed friendly service, decent cofee we had toasties, then bought a couple of scones to take home for tea.

Love the cafe, lush walk seeing the tree animal sculptures, parking (though gets very busy) my go to local walking spot! My family of all ages love it 😀

Wooden pathways to go through some of the trees in a short circuit or continues to gibside. Lovely being in a natural surroundings but close to cafe n seats if wanted. Plenty of birds to watch. Will go again with better grip shoes.
