Thornburys Restaurant in Lisburn

Unfortunately, both the food and staff service were terrible. All the food dishes were either overcooked (possibly reheated) or too cold, uncooked and parts didn't come together. When raising this with the staff, they were very unreceptive although most of the bill was refunded. This is the second time we have experienced poor staff service. Won't be back or recommended this place.

I used to really like going here for lunch but the last two visits have really put me off. I went a week or two ago and ordered lasagne and chips but was told that they were fresh out of chips and ordered mash instead. This wasn’t a big deal but the food then took around 45 minutes to arrive. I was just thinking of cancelling the food and leaving. In fairness to the staff, they gave me a full refund without me having to ask so I appreciated this. I then decided to go for lunch here again yesterday and got a cheeseburger and chips. Later in the day I started to feel lethargic and sick with food poisoning. I didn’t eat anything else after my lunch in Thornbury’s so the food there was clearly not cooked right. The staff were also quite amateur on this occasion as they also forgot to bring down a tray bake that we ordered and paid for. Really used to like this place but after these last two visits, I can comfortably say that there are much, much better places to eat in Lisburn.

Such a lovely wee spot for lunch when you're in town. The staff are so friendly and kind. I've witnessed a real care for the elderly on a few occasions that I've been there and it's lovely to see. Dylan served us, he was so helpful and great with my 2yr old, providing him with books and toys to entertain him until food arrived. Highly recommended! 😊

Great local cafe open early on Sundays. The girl serving me could not have been more helpful with a big order I had for a local film crew.

The people that work are lovely I tried buying a burger meal and my card declined and they let it slide I definitely will return the favour next time I'm in town.

Food cooked to perfection staff very helpful and friendly

This is my go to place in Lisburn for proper home cooked delicious food at a very reasonable price. I am never disappointed. Their breakfasts are to die for and lunch and dinner ... and now doing evening events!! Just when I thought it couldn't get better!!

Booked for Steak night was absolutely amazing. Hidden gem for evening food. People of Lisburn need to support this local evening restaurant. Steaks cooked to perfection. Service was 1st class. Well worth a visit. We will definitely return.

We used to love Thornburys, as my previous review will attest. However, there are apparently new owners, the menu had changed and our favourites had been dropped. Had to make do with second choices and neither of us liked it. Haven’t been there since, and won’t be returning. Have found a lovely place for lunch, but am not sharing or reviewing it!

Staff were so lovely! Deffo recommend here such a handy spot to the town, came in for lunch with me and my mum and got food cooked to order happy to wait as it was delicious will be back! :)

A really down to earth café. Very friendly staff, excellent food and quick service. To top it off, it's in a great location and is very reasonably priced. It could be more professional, however despite that it is highly recommended!

Ordered a breakfast wrap. Couldn't even get the order the correct and half the wrap was that stale it was more like a popadom. Horrible

Have been into Thornbury's cafe (Lisburn) several times and have never been disappointed both from the selection and the quality of food. Yesterday phoned ahead and after speaking to Hannah, asked if there was any banoffe left and was told there was only one piece remaining. Hannah was quick to say if you really want some I will go make another one and put it away a couple of slices for you. True to her (their) word another pie was made and sitting waiting for me to pick up, just before closing. The banoffe was extraordinary and I was so impressed that I could pop in and pick it up packed ready to go. If you are in Lisburn and hungry for something quick to eat or a proper sit down meal look no further than Thornbury's cafe - trust me one of the nicest places to eat in Lisburn. Thanks again Hannah for being so considerate. 😁

Visited today and was quite disappointed with the food. Customer service was alright but luke warm tea, luke warm soup, luke warm breakfast wasn't great 😕

Outstanding service! Had a very casual 30th birthday brunch here with my mum and sister and the staff went to the effort of decorating the table with flowers and a card for me. The owner let us use the outside terrace and had music playing when we walked in🥰 Brunch was delicious as always, thanks so much guys! Xx

Worst breakfast experience ever. 40 mins waiting on order eventually wrong breakfast order arrives no apology no coffee as finished 29 mins earlier no offer to fix refund anything. Complete shambles with no concept of customer service. Left without offer of apology or refund. Will certainly vote with my feet and sure to warn off anyone from risking similar experience.

Good selection of very reasonably priced lunch options like roast dinner ,all day breakfast, sandwiches . Plenty of sweet options too if you have space left. Staff are always very friendly and helpful.

First off i want to say the food is usually very good. However I've recently had a few issues with the food I've ordered from Thornburys. Last week i ordered some food for my daughters and myself. On opening the food and during eating it there was hair off someone's head in one of the items and a public hair in something else. This was rectified by the manager. However today i ordered an 8 item fry and only received 7 items. I rang them to tell them just out of principle, I got a girl on the phone and started to explain about last week's issue and now this. She 100% hung the phone up on me. I won't lie and say that slightly annoyed me so rang straight back to get the manager on the phone this time around. He then proceeded to say I am always complaining every week( what he tried to cover up later in the call to him and said he didn't mean it the way i took it) and that a driver that delivers the food said i had an issue with food another time as well. That issue the driver was referring to was when my 2 autistic children wanted pancake stacks. One likes strawberry fruit and one bananas. I ordered them a pancake stack each, one with bananas and one was with strawberries. They sent me the 2 of them out with bananas. Autistic children are very picky to what they eat and what food they like and something that seems small to us will be a major issue for them and can cause meltdowns. I was made to feel a liar and that i was one of them people that complained about everything by staff while on the phone to them. That in turn made me rather angry. If you order food you expect it to be correct and nothing wrong with it and get a certain standard for what you pay for. I spent around £40 £50 most months in that restaurant getting deliveries and absolutely won't be ordering a single thing from them again after how i was treated by them. They have lost a good paying customer thanks to rude management and staff. I've ordered a lot of food from them over the last year or 2 and only had 3 issues where I've had to complain. They can't take criticism and turn it around on you

Girl who put my meal together had very long finger nails that hung over and onto my plate i couldn't eat food which looked OK.

Best place to eat in Lisburn. Portions are exceptional and the owners are lovely people. My parents are regulars here. We've just had the takeaway Sunday dinner and it would rival any dinners out there. The mash is so creamy and the gravy is gorgeous. Highly recommend this place for good, honest food. Check out the pavlova and the deserts. Just stunning.

This place has to be one of the kindest friendliest places i go to. The staff are amazing and go beyond anything they can do to help you. I've been going here a couple of months now, and i wouldn't and won't be going anywhere else unless it closed down which I hope never happens.

Food was mediocre at best, bacon was rubber. Place felt a bit dirty; tables weren't cleaned from previous customers and when waiter did take previous dirty plates away I had to go to ask him to wipe the table down afterwards, as he hadn't. We saw a number of people walk in, look around and walk out again, and two tables return plates to the kitchen. Disappointing really as it seems to be a jovial enough staff trying to make something of the place.

Good food but what a let down a few weeks ago I was there with my 3 sisters and one of my sisters chair broke and she fail to the floor hurt her arm and leg we asked for the owner but was told they were not there the daughter of the owner was there and took my sisters phone number in witch on one has contacted her to see how she is

The dirtiest cafe/ restaurant I've EVER been in. It was FILTHY. the girl cleared my table and when she had gone it was still dirty. She shoved all the bits off the table and on to the seats, which I then had to clean. Food was abysmal and I was barely able to chew the bacon. I've only given one star because there are no minus stars. THE WORST EVER !!!!!

Having read a professional review, on another forum, suggesting this was the best place for breakfast in Lisburn I decided to give it a whirl. Basically, it all depends what you are looking for; this is a cafe with lot's of precooked food sitting on a food warmer waiting to be served. You queue up, point out your meal of choice, pay and enjoy. We ordered 3 x 6 piece fries, 2 cups of tea and a flat white coffee. It all came to the grand total of £17. The food itself was nice enough for the price, the staff were mostly friendly and the surroundings were pleasant. I went here a little unprepared, I didn't have a budget in mind, my goal was to experience the best breakfast in Lisburn. I suspect I may have got the best value breakfast for the money rather than the best breakfast in town.

First time being in since the lockdown, what a glow up! The new owners have transformed the place and has a much more welcoming atmosphere now! The desserts are hard to resist and staff are extremely accommodating! Will deffo recommend

Popular cafe in Lisburn that serves good wholesome breakfasts and lunches. They have lovely sandwiches, cakes, desserts and homemade scones that go well with one of their cappuccinos. They do home delivery of Sunday breakfasts. The cafe has toilet facilities.

I love coming to this place, but yesterday just didn't meet my usual expectations. Ordered a lasagne and chip for myself and a kids meal for my granny- usually there's no issue with the kids meal but the girl behind the counter kept trying to change my mind. Regarding the lasagne and chips, once it was ready the girl brought it up for us, the plate was heaped with salad and about 3 chips, I said that I didn't order salad but the girl didn't really acknowledge that. The lasagne just tasted like rubber which was a huge disappointment as I love coming to Thornburys each time im in lisburn.

AVOID. Poor Service and Overpriced. Unfortunately this restaurant is not meeting current COVID19 guidelines; Staff were not wearing masks, they were standing in huddles and wearing unwashed white cotton gloves which are covered in all sorts of food and dirt whilst serving. When giving me a teaspoon, the staff member looked at it and then wiped it on her leg before setting it into my cup. The said staff member also thought that a desert spoon was the appropriate spoon for me to enjoy my soup with. I had to ask twice for a proper soup spoon and the one that arrived was far from desirable. Food was average and extremely overpriced for the quality. The choice is limited and as far as I can see the menu hasn't changed since I first came about 14 years ago. This will be the last.

Lovely fresh cooked food we always have breakfast 4 or 6 piece for 2 with tea and change out of £10 what more could u want . Scones lunches tray bakes and lovely friendly staff . Deff worth a try . X

Can never call to lisburn without calling into Thornburys. Called in today greeted by a massive queue.. I was so happy to see people are still supporting smaller cafes during the 50% scheme. The queue took about 10 minutes to get through but once again I was stuck for choice at the counter, wide range of hot foods from lasagne and pies, to lighter meals like chicken and salads. (I went for the lasagne) the staff on the hot food (Young fella and girl) were under immense pressure but never failed to greet each customer with a welcoming smile before taking orders. The girls on the drinks helped me get sorted with cutlery and a nice cold bottle of Fanta once again with smiley faces. Once I was seated I waited about 5 minutes before my food arrived still piping hot. I couldn’t manage desert but the desserts all looked delicious!! Keep up the amazing work youse guys are doing and thank you for a beautiful meal

One of our favourite regular stops, the staff are always lovely, very helpful and friendly, the food is always incredible and probably the best desserts in Lisburn ( if you have the room for it!) Always go in thinking I'll order a salad and end up with pie, it's just too good.

Popped in for a coffee and under new management. Welcomed by Yvonne and enjoyed pavlova as it is part of the Eat Out scheme. Upstairs decorated and renovated for ice cream, pancakes etc

Called in today with my daughter for lunch, We both got burgers,They were delicious! The new decor was a lot more modern as the place badly needed a refurb, Staff were very accommodating. Even had a milkshake in the dessert bar upstairs! Couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Absolutely love Thornburys! Massive portions so make sure you’re hungry (& have room for dessert!). Their breakfast & lunch food is served behind the counter but don’t let it put you off - I can ensure the food is very fresh, looked after and also tastes delicious! Love anything this place makes, the food is so comforting and almost like home cooking. The desserts are also incredible and I make sure to grab a slice of something to take away! Really good prices too!

Sorry, I've been here a few times and liked it today I had chicken & ham pie.the pastry & sauce was delicious but the chicken and ham wasn't , chips were tasteless and peas were hard I felt bad as my daughter paid for it and all I ate was a bit of pastry & couple chips. I didn't even consider complaining as it's been good previously & maybe just a one off.

First, not my last visit. Clean, reasonably priced, good ambience. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Nothing seemed to be a problem for them. A great place to stop for lunch.

Went here yesterday for lunch with my partner and her grand child! It was so so bad! Food was tasteless! My partner had vegetarian quiche which was watery and uncooked! I had the most awful chicken and ham pie pure rubbish! Staff were way ott but I guess that was because the boss was doing her book work beside the till! Totally awful eating experience

Great value and desserts to die for!

I have given this restaurant 5 stars because of the staff. The chap who cooks the eggs, everything else is pre cooked, is very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for him, I normally just gave eggs and toast and my friend has a small fry, everything us always enjoyable and because there us always someone having breakfast the atmosphere is always good. There are daily papers to read if you wish. Well woth a visit.

Excellent menu and quality of food. Pleasant and helpful staff. Decor is a little 'tired' but more than compensated by the quality of food and value for money. A busy restaurant - that in itself speaks volumes.
