My wife and I have just spent a wonderful week holidaying in the beautiful county of Herefordshire. We visited The Yew Tree for the first time on Thursday, and having received such great hospitality and friendliness, both from Phil the landlord and his staff and others drinking and eating there, we went back each day until we had to head home, I suppose making it our holiday “local”. We always had the same drinks, I had Butty Bach from the local Wye Valley Brewery, which is an excellent pint and is very well kept, and my wife had a glass of wine. The price for both was extremely reasonable at exactly a tenner (it made life so easy Phil 😉🤣). We also ate at The Yew Tree on 2 evenings. The food is absolutely fantastic. All meals are home produced, nothing is “microwaved”, and the lady who does the cooking (I’m sorry, I have forgotten your name 😬) certainly knows how to run a kitchen and produce top quality meals. One evening my wife and I both had the Wagyu burger which was absolute delicious and the burger patty itself was so tender. The following evening my wife had Lamb Shank, again delicious and tender, and I had (on a recommendation from one of the locals) the Steak Pie. I can honestly say, I will be dreaming about that pie until we next visit Herefordshire and I have another one! It was OFF. THE. SCALE! The leanest most tender steak and the tastiest gravy in the lightest pastry case, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. It was unbeatable! And the prices are so reasonable at £15/£16. So all that I can say is that if you are in the vicinity of Preston on Wye, get along to The Yew Tree; you will not be disappointed! We certainly will. 😁

My friend and I booked in for an evening meal while we were walking the Golden Valley Pilgrimage. We were en route to the next village for our night stopover so needed to have early meal so we could arrive at our destination before darkness. We phoned ahead to book and the proprietors were so helpful - suggesting my vegetarian friend phoned the day before to discuss meal options. Even though we arrived early we received a really warm welcome. Our meals came quickly and were reasonably priced and delicious (just what we needed after a long days walk). The atmosphere in the pub was so friendly with the locals welcoming us with cheery banter and jokes along the way. It was such a delight to eat here and would totally recommend it for anyone wanting a good hearty meal at a reasonable cost in a relaxed setting. 10/10 !

So friendly and laid back, the outside area is great to sit with your dog and relax. The fish pie(which my wife had) was the best I have ever tasted. The fish and chips was lovely and crispy and on the day I had lasagne the landlord said it will be about 20 mins if that's OK as it's in the oven. I'd checked this out on Trip Advisor before taking friends while visiting the area. We had asked a local (who shall remain nameless) and they had said it's reputation rose and fell depending on who was Chef at the time. Well Chef must have been on holiday as the menu was very basic and the food had a very (VERY) home cooked feel to it. Reasonable portions but little or no finesse. To be fair it filled a gap but the quality did not surpass that of a substandard chain restaurant. On the flip side - you could not fault the warm welcome and friendly attitude of the staff. Go if you want your (tea/dinner) cooked for you but don't go if you want a dining experience.

Staying close to the Yew Tree, my wife and I initially dropped in for a drink soon after our arrival. The cask ale on offer was Heritage Gold, which was clear and in very good condition. We returned the next evening for a meal and, having based our choice of holiday cottage on the Yew Tree's proximity and reviews, were very pleased, not to say relieved, to find that the food was every bit as good as heralded. We had garlic mushrooms and whitebait as starters, then scampi and chips and cod and chips as main courses, all four were well prepared and presented, flavoursome and, not to be undervalued, piping hot. Portions were generous, to the point of leaving no room for dessert. All in all, a very pleasant evening at a very reasonable cost.P.S. Our dog concurs with our review but mainly because everyone she met made a fuss of her.

Needing a place to eat and drink after a hard days fishing at nearby canon bridge we came upon this lovely pub in the wilds of Herefordshire. great welcome, great beer and good pub food. Prawn cocktails and mushrooms on toast were excellent starters and the mains- burgers, curry and fish and chips were our generous choices - so generous none of us could finish. Really friendly waitress explained to us how to get back to Hereford via Bridge Sollers but when we got there the road was closed - never mind - we retraced our steps back to Hereford another way via some narrow roads. Had lovely chats with the friendly locals too.Pub has its own boules 'court' outside which was the scene of some very competitive matches.

The pub has recently got a new chef! I've tried the steak, pie and burger since she started and all have been just what you'd want / expect from a good local, country pub. Generous portions, tasty, well-cooked food. The staff here are very friendly and keen to please and the landlord can't do enough to help. If you want a genuine local, country pub feel with friendly staff and local folk, typical pub grub (think good fish n chips, burgers, steak, lasagne etc) and you're in the area this place is well worth a visit. The only improvement I can think of would be if they got Wye Valley's Butty Bach on more frequently.

We visited this pub one Saturday lunchtime in order to check out the food and see if we could book for the whole family for a Sunday lunch a few weeks later, in order to celebrate a big birthday. The meals were delicious, large portions and served quite quickly. We were happy to book the Sunday lunch for the family of 9 (later we added another two). This included 3 children and we could also bring the dogs in with us as we were staying locally in a rented house and couldn't leave the dogs there unattended. The landlady had set the table for all of us in the separate room away from the bar. She had also put fresh flowers in little vases on each table. Sourcing these in January was quite a feat. She had also noticed on our previous visit that our grandson loved dominoes so she had also put boxes of these out to keep the children amused. There was plenty of choice for Sunday lunch and the food was tasty and well presented. Nothing was too much trouble and orders for drinks were also taken at the table. A really great pub and we were made to feel most welcome. Thank you.

Me and two friends stopped here around 2.30 on a Saturday afternoon, at the end of a 5 hour, 12 mile walk through the Herefordshire countryside. Our plan was to have a pint, then call a local taxi company to take us back to our B&B; in Hereford, as it would be dark too early to return on foot. That was the plan.... the reality turned out to be that there are no local taxi firms, and for a Hereford cab to come and get us would have been £50 - if they would come out at all. We were gutted, but then the bar lady came to our rescue and offered to drop us back at the end of her shift as she was heading that way anyway. Not everyone would be so kind - a massive thank you to her, and I'd encourage anyone to visit this place. It's a lovely, traditional country pub, with great hospitality!

My wife and I have recently moved to the area and have adopted this pub as our new 'local'. They do a range of typical 'pub grub' dishes and from what we've eaten so far it's all been pretty good. The portion sizes are excellent and I can't imagine many people leaving here hungry - the Sunday roast in particular was a real 'gut-buster'. The people both sides of the bar have been super-friendly and very forthcoming in welcoming us to the pub and the area. There's a pool table, log burner on the colder days and dogs are welcome too. Now if I can just persuade them to get Wye Valley's Butty Bach on permanently (+ a guest ale to keep things interesting) then I'd say I've found the perfect 'local'. As it is they still get a fantastic rating and I'm delighted this is my new go-to pub.

Food was spot-on but I'd get the Sirloin opposed to the Rib-eye, friendly pub tucked out the way which made us so welcome - Jason and Claire were brilliant and looked after us beyond the call of duty. The manageress even run an errand to the local shop for us (we were passing by on Kayaks) - first class friendly service. Would love to call back there one day.

Just come from the pub. Starters were ok but the pub is full of flies and the toilets.Main course came swimming in grease. The steak was so tough I could not eat it. The eggs on the gammon were Like something from a burger van at the fair. This is not a gastro pub nor a steak house.I asked for horse radish. The guy made some joke and disappeared but they didn't not bring any. Cheap salt and pepper grinders didn't work! Very disappointing. I went to pay and they wanted 25p for using a card. And the food was poor. Even the salad has a layer of fat on it. Look at the grease on your plate after you have eaten. We got out of there.

Friendly pub with a basic menu, but excellent quality (& quantity) food. Walked from Bycross campsite so were able to appreciate the local beer. I had steak & ale pie which was home made with pastry top and bottom in a pie dish. This was a proper pie, which far exceeded the usual pub casserole with a bit of pastry added after. There are a couple of campsites nearby so it's probably busy in season. If you want good food & beer an a budget, head here.

A lovely pub. By a camp site, up from the river wye, the yew tree inn serves good traditional food and great home made puddings. The local cider and beer make it a real find. There is good out door but under cover seating which has increased our visits as I feel more comfortable taking the dogs. There has never been an issue with taking them into the pub (in fact there are usually treats!) but the pubs popularity can make it hard on a Sunday! We will certainly return

Luckily for us searching for somewhere to stop for lunch, the first two pubs we passed were A) shut and b) serving light bites only. This meant the next pub was such a cool find. We were given a lovely welcome, the dog got in too. The menu was astounding, all sounding delicious and considering our hunger, the portions were grand. The other customers seemed equally happy, their meals also looked good. We had a splendid meal, enjoyed our games of crib, had a chat with everyone there. Just blooming lovely!

We went for Mothers Day, and the food was good. Traditional roast and two other options. We were a group of ten, and the service was fairly brisk.I would describe this as a small/medium pub that does good food, rather than a restaurant.

A decent place to go for a night out at the weekend, when there is sometimes live music. Food and choice of ales has improved over the last year or so which is due to the new proprietors.

This pub has a lovely atmosphere and the owners are so welcoming. It's got a cosy feel to it and has all the things a good pub needs - large television for the sport (and for Strictly Come Dancing as I got to watch yesterday) a pool table, darts board and a log burner and of course great food and drinks with wonderful period features. I would recommend stopping by!

We went for a midweek lunch and were impressed. A good selection of food freshly cooked at reasonable prices. The only slight downside was that there was only one staff member on duty, a lovely man, but busy when anyone else was in the bar so it wasn't quick service. But the fresh food was worth the wait.

Fantastic Sunday lunch, 3 meat choices all cooked beautifully. Great value too. Cheesecake is not to be missed - best I've had. Friendly and efficient service, we will definitely be returning.

We paddled down to byecross farm and wandered into the village for something to eat. It was a fair walk from the campsite but well worth the effort. The food was first class, I highly recommend the garlic mushrooms, the gammon was great and very filling and a lot of care taken to use local suppliers. Snailsback cider was excellent.Given no mobile reception the free WiFi was most welcome for assuring love ones of a safe arrival. If we lived closer would be back again and again.Great job

What a lovely meal! Well worth the trip down the little lanes. We were met with a real welcome, and the chef came and explained the menu to our group. We were spoilt for choice. The veggie option (stuffed peppers, lentils, couscous with pomegranate) looked so wonderful, I shall need to return, as I had opted for the slow cooked pork roll, with spinach and cream cheese. Also quite delicious. The men had the lamb shank, and declared it superb. I wish I'd had a starter – the menu looked irresistible, but I'd seen amaretto cheesecake on the sweet menu, so I saved myself for that. Yum! The prices were most reasonable, and the service first class. We had visited on an errand, but will definitely be back. What a find. Thank you, Yew Tree.

Beautiful scenic spot, absolutely stunning. Dog friendly. Food was amazing and atmosphere good too. Boat was running as water was too high but didn’t matter to us!

Only went in for a Latte - great flavour/strength. I have to write 100 characters but only went in for a coffee!

Rude, extremely disappointing, shocking and disrespectful staff! We arrived after making a booking the day before. I booked 2 Adults, 1 child aged 2. The booking itself was pleasant. We got slightly lost, rang in and again very pleasant. Arrived 7 minutes late and walked into a very ‘local’ pub feel. All eyes on us. We were told by the bar person that they were glad we found them. A woman appeared and looked at my Grandson and commented ‘we don’t have highchairs’ I commented that I’d booked ahead with a child on the booking? She said she would go down in the cellar and dust something suitable to bring up then asked me if I had a chair in my car???!!!! We approached the bar and I said I was confused as I’d booked a child ahead of coming. I was ignored, I said once again and the younger woman behind the bar looked at me and in a slightly raised voice utttered ‘well, yes she’s gone to get you something hasn’t she!!’ Based on this experience I told my Friend we were leaving as being treated like this was way beyond acceptable. I wasn’t happy and I let it be known! My Friend and I were left shocked and felt we had been treated appallingly by 2 extremely rude women. Whilst we were putting my Grandson in the car the older women came out and further patronised us with her offering of a dusted off cellar chair and we told her that her colleague was vile and it had gone beyond the chair. She walked off. Having read through the reviews I can see hands have changed and so this may be why I didn’t receive the reputation I had heard of. I have the feeling they felt they were above us! I’m not easily impressed so their Morgan cars and gold large Baroque chairs only further deepens my suspicions that they think they’re better 🤣🤣

As we entered the lovely lady came to us with menus. Food was brought to us on hot plates and presented very nicely. We all enjoyed what we had. Thankyou will return.
