The Yachtsman in Poole

First time to the yachtsman for lunch despite it being on my doorstep for years..... How did I miss this gem before? We had a great fish and chips Friday deal two for £20 .... Huge portions nicely cooked and I have to say the starters and desserts were very tasty too 😁 Friendly staff. Lovely choice of tables and plenty of parking. I'll definitely be returning and I've already recommended it to friends and family 🥴

Great pub food and a very warm welcome from Beth. Lovely surroundings. Our menu choice is not listed in the section below, so I have had to select the closest to it. We both had the chicken and ham hock pie, so my assessments relate to this dish only.

Been a long time visiting 1973 last time, It has changed greatly,had a good meal there, polite and helpful staff, will visit again.

Nice decor (love the touch of Christmas around the bar) friendly bar staff and food was okay. great selection of beers.

Have used the yachtsman a few time but last visit a week ago was not good at all. The meal portion has reduced dramatically. Had a starter which was very disappointing. Very small starter then had a main and this was more like a children's meal portion. For the prices charged this really was not good. Also had to order at the counter (not a problem) but in the past a waiter/waitress came over to take your order. For the amount spent I had to get something else to eat once home as was still hungry. I am not a big eater either. Overall experience has gone down hill massively. Will not be returning in the future.

Front of house staff were great. Sharing starter is massively over priced and small (camembert and wings). Mains took almost an hour to arrive including one roast dinner (on menu as pink however was brown and chewy) an over cooked thick gravy, way too peppery red cabbage and I had to ask for veg which was just peas and half a carrot. Chicken dish was a tiny breast and fish and chips was small and burnt. Overall, food was awful and way too expensive (26 pounds per person). Beer was 5 pound a pint and a good selection however menu does not include prices. Won't come again for food.

Easy parking . Good disability access. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Booking is recommended. Food was tasty and plenty.

Yes it was good. The one thing is the main entrance needs an improvement for wheelchair users. There is a curb at the bottom of the ramp which needs flattening out with some tarmac.

This has to be awarded the worst food pub in Dorset. They seriously need to.find a chef that can actually cook. Food ordered 5.30pm. Eventually came 6.20pm. Was the worst fish and chips you can imagine. Burnt beyond belief. Child fish was the same. Now this so called chef should work.in a crematorium. Do not spend your hard earned cash here. Ive given 1 star because i cant give a minus score.

Nice enough place. Plant burger not available so had to go for the other option (chickpea curry). Daughter had Mac N Cheese but found it too salty to eat. Was offered a refund or dessert - which was good of them to do. Nice selection of beers. Live music on the night we were there.

We must be blessed with the choices on pub lunches lately, my egg and cress sandwich 🥪 was great, my partner had a prawn 🦐 cocktail, she loved her capuchino, unfortunately I'm driving so had a soft drink. Again staff and service were excellent. Thankyou.

They had a Cider Festival & Music Event, there were 3 different Band,s & a Great George Michael Tribute Act, all were Brilliant it was a great event.Hope they have more soon 👍 😀 👏

Food very poor tables outside not cleaned children running everywhere and parents not observing local drinking hole would not return not value for money

Fantastic food, fast service good value for money, especially on their discount Monday (33% off) Definitely worth a visit.

We ate here as we stayed in Poole overnight to catch the morning ferry to France. The staff were helpful, cheerful, and professional. The setting is comfortable, and the tables are nicely set far enough apart to not feel overcrowded. The menu needs to have a few things that help it stand out from the crowd. I understand the need to have a condensed menu, it helps manage costs in these very difficult times for both customers and proprietors, but with no specials board, the menu did feel a little restrictive. The food was OK, it was hot, it was nicely presented, and it was served quickly. It just felt ordinary. I am absolutely certain that with a little effort and imagination, you could turn a mediocre menu into an outstanding one very easily.

Went here for lunch and had the smothered chicken. Food was really good and fries were nice and crispy. It arrived to the table in good time. Family friendly venue with a small play area, needs a lick of wood stain just to freshen it up. The team that were working were very friendly.

The Southern fried chicken was a 10/10 the flavour was dancing around my mouth the only negative thing was the sticky and dirty tables but they happy cleaned it

The most expensive pint I have had in any pub.Obviously caters for the visitors to rockley holiday park. Local for me, but I won't be visiting at £5.80 a pint.

They did not explain to me how there service worked. So after sitting there for 20min i went inside to ask. Apparently i had to order at the bar tell them my table number and pay the order immediately. But they where very kind to me, so i could laugh about it. Very different from our Dutch way, Hahahahah. The food was nice!

We had a fantastic time here. The welcome was very warm and the atmosphere was very nice. The food portions were very good and after two courses we were stuffed!!! We would certainly recommend this pub anytime. It's a shame we don't live closer because I think we would visit this place a lot more often!!!. If we could give ten stars we would.

Little of the menu available. Over salted chips made them inedible and a rather dry club sandwich was difficult to consume. Altogether very disappointingly.

Fantastic pint of Fursty Ferret, crystal clear and tasted great, food was good aswell. Kids play area a brucey bonus.

I've been going to this pub since my childhood and it still gives me the same nostalgia as I enter even though it has been revamped etc Great food. Lovely staff. Great garden with park for the kids and you're also allowed your fur babies there!! I had my 17th birthday here and go back at least once a year just for the memories.

Appalling...booked a table for 12.30...arrived and shown to our table..we were given a menu...we could not see menu for Sunday lunch. So my husband asked what Roast was on the menu..they said...sorry you cannot have that as we have only catered for another party that are coming...I've never heard anything so ridiculous..and I've run my own pub for 19 years and always catered for booked tables!!! If you cannot cater for bookings then you shouldn't be running a pub!!! VERY POOR!!!!

Being going here for years with friends after kayaking, staff have always been friendly.

Lovely pub but roast was awful 😖

Seemed a nice pub. Pre-booked a table. Got the starter but nearly an hour's wait for main course and they weren't busy!! Then bought food we hadn't ordered to then be told the kitchen had closed!! A bit of a shambles and a big disappointment. Got a refund for the main course but I wouldn't recommend this place which is a shame as we were so looking forward to having a nice meal.

Our first trip to Poole, staying at Rockley Park Caravan Park. This fantastic pub is just a short drive away - the food, drink and atmosphere were awesome! Highly recommended...

What a lovely warm and friendly reception we got when we walked in to the 'Yachtsman' on a cold, rainy and windswept afternoon over the Easter holidays. The girls behind the bar were absolutely lovely and made us feel like we'd known them for years. We had a light lunch of fishfinger sandwich, chicken goujons and chunky chips, washed down with a pint of Golden Champion. The perfect pick-you-up kind of place, comfortable and clean and we fully recommend.

Had a nice meal in the yachtsman pub this evening with my gf A nice pub with some nice dishes on the meal I had hummus and flatbread (freshly made hummus) and lamb kofta with coconut tzatziki possibly homemade also Mains meal we had beef and tanglefoot pie (steak and ale) and chargrilled pork chop with a butterbean and chorizo cassoulet all very got quality hot and fresh 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

As a family we were staying at Rockley park but as the dog wasn't allowed in anywhere there,we needed somewhere nearby and dog friendly to eat. Luckily the Yachtsman was very near. The staff are very friendly and helpful.we booked a table each time to ensure our place. The food was very good with generous portions. There was highchairs available for the little one too . This is definitely Rockley parks loss and the Yachtsmans gain.

Lovely pub with huge outdoor space and a playground for kids. Amazing chicken and cauliflower wings and a good steak cook to order. Good selection of beers according to my other half and I cannot complain about wines :) Lovely decor inside and atmosphere.

The young staff were amazing but the chain should be ashamed for leaving two young staff to run the place. Food was very below average. Mostly microwaved. Used to be a lovely pub to visit.
