Good Sunday lunch, nice atmosphere but not too noisy, service a little slow when it was busy but very friendly

Fabulous pub getting back on its feet thanks to new manager Simon (who's genuinely a great guy). Excellent and highly valued local pub that's dog friendly with a great selection of beers which you can ask to taste before buying. Cannot wait for when they reopen the kitchen in a few months for food! It's away from the hustle of Battersea Park Road and is very family and community-centric. Great find and highly recommended. Update: 2024 food now available.

We popped in but had missed the kitchens food window ( we will be back for food!) but, the lady behind the bar was one of the best bar people I’ve come across in a while. She heard my friend telling me what the other 3 friends wanted to order while serving someone else, and confirmed it with me when she’d finished serving the other customer. Very switched on and very friendly- if only all bar staff were this good. The manager was also very helpful and friendly.

It pains me to put only 3 out of 5 stars on this because we (my partner and i) went here previously and it was absolutely amaizng and brilliant...however this was our second visit as a couple (it's actually my partners local tho) and I must stress..this place is amazing, whixh is 2hy I scored it 5 stars still. The big let down is we chose this place specifically because, besides how great the venue is, the service and atmosphere.. I'm a type 2 diabetic so I have to eat only low carb foods ideally. So the sausage bites, baked camnbert (however you spell it) and even the burgers (without bins) is all I can eat.. however they had none of these and intact the only thing left was vegan burgers, fish and chips ..whixh then after paying we were told isn't avaliable.. the waitress/bar girl was aweosme tho and offered to change it out to fish bites and refunded the difference in cash but it was reslly disappointing and took the edge off the relaxed dinner for 2 we had planned as I couldn't eat anything they had left. So basically I watched my partner have dinner then I went home. Bit of a let down... however...... ..I'm still marking thia place 5 out of 5 for overall because I know how good they are normally when it's not as busy (it was packed this eve we went) and the food quality is absolutely lovely.. so I will be taking her back there for a third go.. hopefully they have enough of everything available. Management please keep the sausage bites and cheese in stock? Also in their defence, it was the weekend of Bank Holiday so maybe they were trying to not order too much? I'm not sure. Atmosphere there is AMAZING staff are all lovely.. every one. We will come back again soon.

Lovely food , u won't be disappointed

Visited The Woodman with 3 generations of the family on a Friday evening. Really good pub food, we had burgers and fish and chips. Good selection of real ales and affordable wine list. First visit but a real treat. 👍

Came here on Sunday for Mother’s Day and had the Sunday Roast. The manager offered us free Prosecco courtesy of Mother’s Day which was a nice treat. Lovely food and very attentive staff. The manager is very thoughtful and friendly. The roast was absolutely delicious and the apple pie was heavenly! Going back this weekend for a friend’s birthday - can’t wait!

Recently moved to the area this is a fantastic local! The most wonderful bar staff in SW who are welcoming and friendly. Nice food and good selection of interesting beers and drinks! Love The Woodman.

Yep, a great pint of Guinness. Although it was tolerated with every child and there parent at a weekend treating a public house like there personal playground which I found slightly tiresome. Thanks for being out of the way and most appreciative of showing some sport however if the prams and cockapoos could be limited I think a much better experience could be had.

Visited the newly opened Woodman for a friends birthday last night and it was genuinely one of the best experiences I’ve had at a pub. They accommodated us by the fire and gave free drinks and some chocolates for the birthday girl and did some shots with us. The kitchen isn’t quite up and running so they let us order pizza in but we will definitely be back for food when the kitchen is ready.

This used to be the best pub in Battersea, I used to come in here all the time, sadly since it's changed hands the service is awful, the beer is average and they play the most ghastly rap music. The only saving grace is the price of the pints! When compared to the quiz nights, fresh oysters and sterling single malts of the previous publicans it doesn't quite come up to scratch.... could try harder....

Stopped by as my daughters first communion. Arranged a dinner . Have been before a couple of years ago the menu has changes from English to a more mixed . My group found the food nice and good tasting from steak to large pork chop ,thai green curry. we arrived it was not too busy at 2pm We all liked the food . ....thank you . Recommended.

The menu is mostly Greek with a few English dishes. Dietary requirements were not listened to fully! Chips were frozen, the meals weren’t hot, the plant burger was a distant relative of what a plant burger should look and taste like, many dishes were “off” the menu, and there were only two other diners there, whereas The Woodman used to be packed by 8.30- the time we had had enough of the lacklustre food and disinterested staff, apart from the embarrassed waiter, who had the good grace to apologise. They don’t answer their phone or emails and their website is from the previous owners.

We took a friend with a dietary requirement for her Birthday to the Woodman. We paid 2 visits in person to make sure they can provide her with a simple Jacket potato with butter and cheese on the side . I even followed it by an email which went unanswered. We turned up yesterday evening for this Birthday dinner. Not only the potato was served with cheese and butter on top , which was returned by this Lady , there was no cheese , biscuits or bread for this lady to eat. In fact half the menu was not available due to Bank holiday. In fact this lady ended up eating a sorbet for her Birthday dinner . In spite of my protest of my protest , they charged me for both the Jacket potato which was sent back and the sorbet. The manager was not there for us to complain too. My burger was also a disaster. The bacon was uncooked.. They are complacent , grandiose , amateurs with no idea how to entice customers or serve decent food. Never Again.

We attended as a group of friends and were disappointed by the poor service and food. We had to ask multiple times for water, drinks etc at one point I went up to the bar and asked where our drinks were and there were 6 members of staff chatting and doing absolutely nothing.

The food was good but the prices to portion ratio is a little outrageous considering it’s a pub. Would rather eat in an upscale restaurant in Soho for that bill! £70+ for two people in an English pub is a bit unreal. The staff was extremely attentive and kind.

This was a rubbish experience. The waitress was hopeless, couldn’t remember the simplest request, dumped food on the table. And the food was lamentable from roast beef to green curry, starters and pudding. All lazy and greasy. And not cheap. Avoid. Ps we didn’t complain because there was no point: if they had any standards they wouldn’t have produced what they provided

Went for Sunday roast; waiter checked our order three times...3 roasts and 1 fish-n-chips is not that difficult, roasts were decent, not impressed with batter of the fish, too greasy in my eyes, finished plates were not cleaned away, kids had to go to the counter to ask about desserts, hope new owners will improve as our neighbourhood go to pub

Can’t recommend this enough! Sunday roast (meet and vegetables) was perfectly cooked, the fish and chips was excellent, the service was great and friendly, and the manager (Komninos) was happy to chat with us and tell us about his new venture. Woodman is a new gem in the Battersea area. Located in a quite area, easily reachable by Santander bike, it preserves its traditional character and has the vibes of a non-mainstream freehouse. Great selection of desserts (with some really good ones from Turkey and Greece) and a carefully crafted wine list! Can’t wait to go back!

Sunday roast for true food lovers and greek desserts as an exprerience. Komninos, the owner, is a great host!

Since changing owners the food menu has increased but not with quality. what used to be a small but good menu is now huge. Ordered chicken wings for almost £8 and 6 tiny wings arrived- the side salad was bigger than the portion of wings. New owners should have a re-look at their menu and prices, shocking.

I used to be so proud to have this great gastropub as my local, but in line with all the other reviews since the change of ownership a few months ago, it’s not what it used to be. The food quality is well below the previous standards, and yet more expensive, and the atmosphere is non-existent, presumably because all the other regulars have had the same experience I had. And yes, they can’t even deep fry fish batter properly, we were also served some soggy coated fish.

Fish and chips soggy, fish oozed grease and the batter was wet, bright yellow and tasted of katsu curry. Sent back to the kitchen, the plate was returned and I was told I could have another but it would just be the same. Katsu curry itself not crispy and again, the batter was 'soggy'. Very expensive for what you are served. It's a shame because the pub is nice and the bar staff friendly. I would go for drinks but not to eat again.

Drinks good and bar staff friendly (the only reason for the 3 star)! We ate in the bar because we had a dog with us which was no problem, but the food was TERRIBLE. I sent back the fish and chips because the fish was soggy, oozing with 'liquid' and the batter bright yellow and tasted of katsu curry (another item on the menu). I was told I could have another but that it would be the same. Really, really disappointing. Hopefully the restaurant end is better, because what I was served looks nothing like photos from other reviews of this pub.

Went in for Sunday lunch today since re-opening with new owners. They are still settling in however the staff are friendly and the food was very good, a proper Sunday pub lunch…half a (large) chicken, crispy roast potatoes, savoy cabbage, carrots, puréed squash, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Go check it out!

Terrible experience from start to finish unable to make a booking online so just dropped in for a meal, the menu is just odd Greek food, fish and chips, Thai curry. The atmosphere was non existent probably because no one was in the restaurant on a Saturday night !

I have to say unfortunately I agree with the last review from Reuben. The Woodman was one of my favourite pubs in the area for drink and good quality pub food. Hadn't been for a year or so, and I understand it has changed hands in the last month or so. The menu is pre dominantly Greek, over priced I think (even with price increases) as is the red wine, 2 bottles at £25 and then jumps up to £40 odd quid! We were the only people eating on a Saturday night. Few people in the pub but also very quiet. One positive was our waiter (who used to work with the old owners) - he was very good. But that being said I wouldn't rush back, which is a real shame.

Love this place and hope it survives the current economic challenges but at £6.20 for Amstel you have a distorted view of economics - people will not pay this price - if , like me for just one pint not 3 which defeats you strategy of raising prices so high

We go to the Woodman regularly for drinks but last Sunday we decides to try their Sunday roast, as we had family visiting. We tried every plate on the menu and they didn't disappoint. Portions are generous, food was well cooked and well presented. Service was pretty fast considering how busy they were. Will definitely eat again.

Fantastic food, shocking service. Sat in our reserved table for 15 minutes before anyone asked if we'd like a drink. When the food (Sunday roast) did arrive it was excellent. But they didn't ask us how it was, if we'd like condiments, and they got our drinks order wrong. I can let it slip when they're extremely busy, but we sat there watching the staff chat amongst themselves whilst we waited for someone to take our order. The waitress took my plate away whilst my partner was still eating, then left her empty plate on the table for 20 minutes before asking if we'd like dessert. Such a shame that great food is let down by amateur service.

We booked for a table of 17, the day before they cancelled with this pitiful excuse! After we booked we were told that we have to order the same within our group, although we were never told this we excepted it as it would be unlikely to find somewhere with such short notice with our size! To then be told less then 24hr before with this email is a joke, so beware anyone booking their Xmas party with them! I called and the bar staff answered the phone he said he could not help and it wasn’t his problem, he asked me who my email was from and I replied the woodman he replied what no name and I said no just signed from the woodman, he said I suggest you find out who emailed you and put the phone down, I tried to call back no answer! Totally disgusting! Not to mention unprofessional!

Due to change of plans, needed a meal on Saturday night. The front bar very busy, but found a table for three in the back. This pub is much larger then it looks from the outside. Service was good and wait was OK even with a number of large groups. Food was just what we needed. Will visit again.

We stayed in the area and thankfully discovered The Woodman soon enough so that we could return for a second meal. Our first meal was Wednesday Steak Night — a great steak dinner that was fairly priced. We returned, on recommendation from the manager, for Oyster night and enjoyed a delicious five course meal and live music. The family who runs the restaurant were very welcoming. Highly recommend for all who want a great meal in a great atmosphere!

My husband and I had a couple of pints in our beautiful local pub the Woodman. We were greeted like long lost friends by the welcoming, friendly staff. Everyone was really attentive, explaining to people what they needed to do upon arrival. We have missed this place so much as it is a really important part of our community and they have done so much to ensure the safety of both patrons and staff. Definitely worth a visit and next time we will eat there too, as the food is great. Definitely recommend you visit.

Trying to get the various elements our family together to celebrate a birthday on the eve of lockdown restrictions being eased was always going to be a challenge but the team at The Woodman went above and beyond to make it work for us - wothout compromising the C19 rules. Grate vibe, smashing staff and excellent Sunday roasts. In short - The Woodman made our day and we are very grateful.

I ate here with my family on Sunday 25th April. We all had starters, Sunday roasts and desserts and everything was good quality food. The staff were very attentive and the COVID precautions / procedures were excellent. Considering we were allocated a 2 hour window the service was unhurried and we all had an enjoyable experience. I would strongly recommend this pub / restaurant.

So nice to be able to eat outside again. Had a lovely, simple dinner here. Booked ahead for a 2 hour slot. Decent choices on menu, but not very good for vegetarians or vegans. Really delicious steak !

And we’re back! This was our first choice for dinner after the previous lockdowns and again this time. If anything, the food is better than ever. I had fish and chips, which I can rarely resist when it’s not Sunday (can’t beat the roasts) and my wife had the stone bass. Both delicious, as were our starters (arancini and a ceviche). The outdoor area is cosy, covered and heated. Staff are as friendly as always and it felt wonderful to be among relaxed chatting people again. We’ll be back as soon as we can get another reservation!

Wow, best pub food I've ever had. I'm lucky enough to live within a 5 minute walk so I've tried most of the menu. I must say how amazing the service and the food is. 10/10

Our first “substantial meal” after the second lockdown had to be here, at our favourite pub, and it was better than ever. The dining room is COVID safe, there’s a new canopy and heaters to make the outside area even more comfortable and, most importantly of all, the food, drinks and service were as excellent as ever. (Our burger and fish & chips were both delicious). We’ll be back tomorrow for their wonderful Sunday roast!

Thought we would give the woodman a try having a great Sunday lunch there in the past and the menu looked great. Had a 10-15 minute wait for our table where we stood in between the bar and restaurant whilst we waited. We were seated and drinks order taken quite quickly.The food took slightly longer than we expected which meant that we were not able to order dessert due to closing at 10 also was not ableto make changes to the dishes... The food was okay and I would visit again as I would like to try the rest of the menu!

El pub es obviamente un lugar popular entre los lugareños y los visitantes por igual. Tuvimos una larga charla con la encantadora casera que nos hizo sentir muy cómodos durante estos tiempos difíciles debido a COVID - 19. Vivimos en Sussex y visitamos Londres con regularidad, por lo que definitivamente haremos de The Woodman uno de nuestros destinos favoritos para tomar algo y, con suerte, comer la próxima vez. We have enjoyed a lovely roast meal here a number of times. This year and last we also have loved the annual Oyster Festival!

Excelente asado, la calidad de la carne y la cocción fue excelente y el festival de ostras fue tentador, así que tuvimos algunos como entrantes, el jersey fue fabuloso y bien presentado. El servicio fue amable y eficiente y la cerveza era la mejor que hemos tenido. A ++ en general Lo pasamos genial en un gran pub, ¡solo podemos recomendarlo!

The Woodman me pidió que escribiera un informe y, aunque no lo había hecho durante algún tiempo, pensé que lo haría. . . . . . .La comida era buena, el servicio en la mesa era bueno y nos recordaron que nos fuéramos antes de las 10 de una manera profesional y amigable. 20 minutos antes de que nos fuéramos, el personal decidió pasar la aspiradora muy cerca de la mesa.Sin embargo, la bienvenida al frente de la casa fue una experiencia muy diferente. Obviamente, en estos tiempos difíciles, puedo comprender el comportamiento ansioso tanto del cliente como del personal, pero casi nos alejamos. Nos dijeron que nos pusiéramos las máscaras antes de entrar al restaurante y esto es completamente comprensible. Lo que no es aceptable es que me digan, mientras trato de localizar el mío, que podría venderme uno por 2. No nos dieron tiempo para encontrarlo, error mío. Una vez que localicé el mío (los otros ya estaban enmascarados al llegar) nos hicieron esperar una cantidad innecesaria de tiempo mientras él jugueteaba, podía vernos claramente esperando afuera. ¡Una experiencia completa y desagradable!

Ha tenido sus nosotros y sus bajas, pero recientemente tiene que ser mi lugar favorito para comer en la zona. La comida es deliciosa, el personal es muy amable y atento. I wrote last year that this is our favourite pub. A lot has changed, globally, since then but not at The Woodman! I’m here tonight for my first trip to a pub since March (because of lockdown and quarantine; our last pub was also here ). Unsurprisingly, the food, drinks and service are all still great. The atmosphere is, as always, welcoming and cosy while respecting all current guidelines. Whether you’re local or just passing through Battersea, stop by and treat yourself!

Four of us came here for the first time for Sunday lunch. From start to finish the afternoon was exceptional. We all had starters which were delicious then all chose the roast pork. Without a doubt, it was one of the best pub roasts I’ve ever had. For £16 the portion size was extremely generous and the food was outstanding.The accompanying wine list was very good and reasonable too. And not that we needed it but the desserts topped the afternoon all.Thank you for a lovely afternoon and the staff were fab too!

I love the woodman. The food is really great and the service amazing. House wine is very good value and if you go on Steak Night you’ll get a great value steak cooked how you like it.

I will declare an interest upfront this is my local and whilst I drink here, I don't eat here as much as I should. This is not the fault of the pub, more the fact there is so much choice in SW London that you want to try and eat everywhere else. The food has always been good here under the excellent stewardship of the pub by Ruben and his family but with the recruitment of Rupert from the Cross Keys over in Chelsea, the food has taken a noticeable uptick.We had a late Sunday lunch with the four of us arriving at about 5.30pm, two of us had the roast chicken, which was in fact half a chicken. I had the roast beef which was lovely and pink and again a substantial amount. Roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. It was an excellent roast dinner. If you did a goggle image search of a roast dinner then The Woodman Roast dinner would be the first image you would find. I would also like to mention the fact the staff here are consistently phenomenal, I often find that good restaurants in London are let down by poor service with disinterested staff. That is not the case here. Staff are friendly, helpful and always keen to ask if there is anything else you need. It really is a joy to eat here, thoroughly recommend it.

I stopped going here when the place changed hands and went down hill, but for some time the owners have been back and doing sterling work. Food and service are excellent. Well done The Woodman for turning it around. I will be coming back again

Read reviews and planned visit on trip to London, were fully booked but fitted us in, food was better than some high end restaurants, quality was exceptional and the chef is a hidden gem, the whole meal was a delight. The customer service was fantastic , there's many a business that could learn from this little hidden gem. The atmosphere was friendly, welcoming and I would recommend to anyone and everyone. 5 stars

Tuve mi almuerzo de cumpleaños aquí el domingo pasado y pasé un tiempo fabuloso. El pub es realmente tranquilo y amable. Los asados de los domingos son increíbles, ¡nunca había visto Yorkshire Puddings más grande! Teníamos un grupo grande que incluía varios niños y el personal fue muy atento y la comida llegó bastante rápido. Definitivamente, recomendaría este pub para reuniones familiares. ¡Espero volver pronto sin los niños también!

Acabo de tener una comida para 22 personas y debo decir que el personal fue fantástico y también la variedad de comida era excelente. El asado del domingo que tuve fue fantástico y la forma en que el personal manejó a un gran número de personas mostró la experiencia que tienen para dirigir un pub tan agradable.

OMG I’ve just eaten the best roast beef I’ve ever had - and I’m a good cook even if I say so myself Busy place, nice to see as so many pubs in England are struggling. Great atmosphere.6 of us had a 3 course lunch & no one disappointed!Service was excellent.

Great experience at The Woodman. We went for a Sunday lunch and the food was brilliant. Roast beef was amazing. The staff were very attentive, we didn’t have to ask for anything like water etc. The wines were great too. We felt looked after and would highly recommend.

Called in on the spur of the moment late Saturday afternoon. Lovely atmosphere. Sat by the window. Staff very attentive. Menu looked amazing. Chose the 8oz Fillet steak. Steak was cooked to perfection. Thoroughly recommend eating here and will definitely return again in the near future.

This is one of my favourite pubs, if we lived a little closer we would be here every weekend. I love the roast lamb and the cheeseboard is to die for. We have been coming here for over a year now and have always had excellent food and very good service. It is a family run pub which makes all the difference. You receive a warm welcome as soon as you step inside especially when Joe and Helen are there. I find the review below a complete fabrication, at best its mistaken the pub or at worst by someone who has a gripe, always a bit suspicious when lies are clearly written and another pub is recommended. I have never heard any staff in there swear or behave in the manner that has been written! Joe is one of the most polite young men you could meet. All I can say is if you have not been, try for yourself and you will not be disappointed. Highly recommend the Fish Friday menu and if you go for a Sunday lunch the lamb is delicious.

Went to the woodman for a few drinks with friends, as you do in a pub. Sat outside as were larger group and to avoid disturbing any other customers. Manager of the bar, who is son of owner/chef, thought he was Tommy Shelby. Became verbally abusive and aggressive challenging customers to fights for no apparent reason. Eventually his own dad had to come and calm the situation down. I highly recommend that you avoid this pub and head to the Latchmere round the corner

I found this pub whilst cycling home from work one evening and popped in for a glass of wine and have been back a few times with friends since. The pub is very cozy and welcoming, the staff are super friendly and the food is delicious. It's quickly becoming my new local!

Do not pick this venue if you wish to have a good time with friends. They are extremely unwelcoming to non locals. The bar staff and manager are rude and aggressive using explicit language totally unnecessarily.
