Very nice countryside pub with a true soul

Do not be put off by the slightly shabby outside. This pub is FANTASTIC! visited with friends as halfway point between us. Lovely warm welcome, very dog friendly. Brilliant selection of ales, lagers and ciders on draught. Very clean. Sunday roast exceptional, meat fabulous and proper gravy. Good selection of vegetables, vegetarian roast looked lovely, all homemade. Homemade ice creams excellent, but the star of the desserts was the apple crumble tart, cooked properly in an oven (not microwaved!) with gorgeous crisp pastry and just the right amount of spice, delicious. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this pub. Ticks all the boxes for friendliness, service, dog friendly, excellent food and drinks.

Stopped for lunch en route to Surrey. Liked it so much stopped on the way home. Lunch for 3 and a very warm welcome for my 3 dogs as well. They were given a huge bowl of water and boneos. We had an unpretentious, very tasty lunch. Service was really friendly and we have no complaints. Just to say thank you for looking after us so well.

Came here after reading good reviews sad to say that we were given off fish that smelt strongly of ammonia and had to return. Tables were dirty and given two random menus that made no sense to differentiate despite one was covered in more grease than the other. Why is there also a disgruntled dog in cage?

I love this pub. It is friendly down to earth and you can tell the staff really want you to have a good experience. The food is great. Big Yorkies and great taste. The best roast dinner around Loughton and Buckhurst Hill

First time for me to have Sunday Roast there because of the recommendation from our friend. The food is nice and service is good. Thumb up to all the staff working in there👍.

Absolutely brilliant service, and a big BIG thank you to Rob the manager who squeezed us in after we were let down at the very last minute by another local loughton pub for our Sunday lunch!!!! It worked out for the best anyway as we got to try this gem and it was the best Sunday roast I have eaten out, all homemade and generous portions and decently priced. The girls on table service were lovely as well and very friendly. Grateful again and will be a returning customer!!! 😍

Just took family and dog for lunch. Food was excellent and the dog got a bone and bowl of water. Home made ice cream is delicious.

A great place to eat, we had a roast here and a drink each and it came oit at under £20. The food was prepared fast and was very enjoyable, extremely welcoming staff also. Parking is very limited so may need to park in the parking spot opposite.

Food was pretty good, took an hour to get served, but lovely friendly lady served us, also its a nightmare for parking.

Old fashioned locals pub feel with delicious vegan food! Dog friendly. Would be great to see the full vegan menu available all the time but what we had was really tasty. Going back with a larger group and with advance notice that we are all to be eating vegan food only…have been promised the full menu! Looking forward to it. Great for a casual and relaxed time. Impressed with the homemade vegan ice cream and Yorkshire puds! We sampled bang bang cauliflower, sausage and mash, filled portobello mushroom, gourmet hot dog, nut roast, five bean chili and rice, ice cream & berry crumble pie!

We had an amazing time at the Woodbine. The food was great and it's locally sourced. I highly recommend this pub for a good place to refuel after a long walk in Epping forest.

I hadn't been to the Woodbine for a few years. It was always good, but now it is really splendid! Very friendly and efficient staff. It was a sunny day, but very cold - the beef stew with dumplings really hit the spot. A generous helping with plenty of lovely, tender meat. Excellent real ales - I particularly enjoyed the Tally Ho barley wine, which they actually age specially in the pub cellar. Can't wait for my next visit!

This is my local pub and I have been going here for years. The food, service and staff are always exceptional. It's a dog friendly pub too. It gets busy at the weekends so would advise booking however they will always try to accommodate walk-ins. If you've never been I would highly recommend you do.

Went for a light lunch and a beer with a couple of friends while down for a work thing. Great service, food was really nice and a good price for the area. Only marked atmosphere down by 1 star as it was a wednesday afternoon. I'm sure when the place is busy it'll be a cracking wee venue.

This is a really nice venue with lovely friendly attentive staff, great food and a good atmosphere.

Just off the M25 at junction 26 heading towards Epping and Loughton. The car park entrance is a little tight and the parking area is quite small. The pub is a free house and has a good selection of ales and beers at the bar, several from local small breweries. We had a lunchtime meal, meeting up with some friends. The food was OK, though not outstanding to be fair. Steak and ale pie was a little dry and overcooked and the vegetables, carrots, cauliflower and a small amount of cabbage were fairly bland. It was very quiet in both the pub and the conservatory with only one other table in for food. We were given drinks though we had to return two glasses as they were dirty. The bar area is OK. Good beer selection as mentioned. A few more drinking customers had come in by the time we left around 4pm. They look to have some live music/entertainment events on at weekends. We are not in that area so unlikely to return. But it's OK, not great, but OK.

Lovely traditional pub with a great atmosphere and good food. Staff were really friendly, attentive and accomodating. The manager was really knowledgable about the various ales on offer and was spot on with the ones recommended. Will definitely recommend and come again. Advise booking a table if eating as very busy for good reason. Happy customer 🙂

Good food, good choice of beers. Friendly and knowledgeable landlord. A little pricey, however, that goes with the territory these days (post covid). I would recommend fie a visit, drink and a meal.

We were let down by another venue, phoned the Woodbine Inn and they were able to accommodate us last minute. Service was great, so friendly and great atmosphere. Food was exceptional. An amazing Sunday roast with so much choice. Highly recommend, we will definitely go back and remember to book in. 5 stars!!!

A coach load of us arrived for a precooked hot and cold buffet. It did not disappoint, excellent selection of hot food, sandwiches and delicious chips! Very welcoming staff and the landlord came out and thanked us all for coming as we boarded our coach to leave. Highly recommended.

Table booked for 1230pm for 6 of us with 2 young children. The pub was very busy with a coach party but the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Our highchair was there as requested on booking and all our meals were lovely . Lovely friendly atmosphere .

New to area stop by to have a drink welcoming friendly atmosphere, fantastic choice of drinks. After a drink we decided to have a bite to eat lovely homemade food ham egg and chips , veg sausages mash and peas. Both were tasty great value for money wow lovely size meals. We will be back! Best roast we've had in a long time. All homemade and locally sourced food.

When I visited, it was very quiet, but we were made to feel welcome, and everything we had from the menu was cooked with care and was well presented. Delicious too I might add. This was my second visit, and although it takes an hour to get there. Its well worth it. Thank you team. See ya soon.

Was recommended to this venues Sunday Roasts and so visited with the family and we were not disappointed. The drinks arrived swiftly as we took our seats and we placed our food order and the starters arrived and were great. The service was attentive but not overpowering - just right in fact. The four of us all ordered the roasts and the food arrived hot and fresh and I ordered the supreme of chicken and it has to be said that it was the best breast of chicken I have had for a long long time. We were made feel very welcome on our very first dining visit and we will definitely be back and soon! It is a very busy restaurant so you may want to book to ensure you get in???? Enjoy Guys!

Slightly disappointing being in Epping Forest and not being able to see much of the trees and next to a busy road, but food and service excellent

They came recommended as one of the top places for a decent Sunday roast via a Facebook group. Ordered direct from them, online, it was super simple and easy to use. Got myself a pork roast dinner. Was packaged well; more than enough gravy to make me happy. Great portion size - no space left in my stomach when I was done lol. Can’t fault the service when I went to collect and obviously can’t really comment on atmosphere as I was there for all of 5 minutes.

Excellent place to stop for a meal before or after taking the tunnel or ferry or on a day out in Epping Forest. Hearty food and lovely staff.

Had lunch here today. Plenty of choice - a very varied menu, and lots for a fussy vegetarian (me). You can see from the photo what I thought of the food (vegan sausage and mash with peas and gravy) :-). Rest of family group enjoyed their meals too. Comfortable atmosphere with excellent service. Car park is small, but there is a public, larger one on the opposite side of the road.

Ordered the cheeseburger from here and it was absolutely out of this world. Loved each and every bite. The handmade chips were the perfect texture and flavour. Washed it all down with a lovely fresh pint. The staff here were so friendly and welcoming. Would 100% recommend this place whether you are local or not!

Yet again The Woodbine delivers superbly. We stopped by just before 1pm on a Sunday on the off chance of getting a table for lunch as a reward for some serious DIY success and although we hadn’t booked and they were getting busy they fitted the 2 of us in We both went for the 4 meat roast dinner. As we saw the enormous portions being delivered to a nearby table my wife joked that we could have just ordered one and asked for a spare plate!! When ours arrived they were huge portions as the picture shows. We did manage to finish them all off but wifey had to sacrifice her usual sticky toffee pudding and custard. Every time we have eaten at The Woodbine it has been great. It’s a proper old school pub with great food, excellent drinks as they pride themselves on their very high standard of ales and there is a real welcoming atmosphere which makes you feel like one of the locals. Great pub that makes a perfect stop on a walk around Epping Forest. Delicious food (catering for vegetarian, vegan and GF as well) and a fantastic selection of beers! Very child friendly too!

Haven't had a Sunday roast like that for a very long time. The dessert went down like a treat. Will definitely be returning. Would highly recommend.

The food was very good, highly recommend. For the first time in long time not disappointed in British food.

Tapas and music night. Table booked in a comfy corner. The guitarist was pretty good to be fair. Always good beer! The tapas were mostly generous portions. Our only caveats were not enough garlic and the aubergine had been deep fried in oil used to fry fish which tainted the veggie dish, a shame. Good filling meal, much enjoyed, thank you. We will be back.

Good place for a well served tasty Sunday lunch. Good choices, slightly noisy as near the bar which is used by locals who arrive on motorbikes.

A nice traditional pub, clean and well organized. Great selection of beers, cider and Perry. Prices very reasonable.

A big thank you to all the friendly staff that made our lunch for 18 people go so well all guests thoroughly enjoyed all the food the Sunday roasts were great. Also thanks to Rob the owner who was very accommodating with our arrangements too.

I suspect it's a good place for food and drink, but I had just done a walk in Epping Forest was waiting across the road for a bus at a bus stop, it seemed busy but it was a Saturday.

Great selection of extremely delicious vegan and normal meals. The home made ice cream was out of this world and the vegan chilli was amazing, plus the Not Chicken Tex Mex salad is a dream. They are dog friendly and also super friendly with humans. We felt so cared for and we are just absolutely happy with this place and the staff and the food. We will defo come back. A belated review as we visited Easter weekend. Food was excellent, catering for vegan, gluten-free and meat eaters. Also, we had two dogs, no problem to eat inside. Excellent and large choice of still cider, so nice to see rather than the usual suspects, Everyone came away happy and so nice to be able to have vegan and gluten free Sunday roast. Staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommended,

Very overpriced quality of food is standard

We were told when we arrived that they had a staffing issue and that there would be longer waits. But we weren't prepared for how long it really took! The staff were doing their best and were very polite but the food really wasn't up to a good standard (probably due to not having enough staff in the kitchen) My beef burger was ok. Clearly homemade which was good and a good size and nice texture, but was definitely over cooked and not juicy at all. I think there was potential there for being an excellent burger if cooked correctly. The bun was good, lovely melted cheese and crispy (as requested) bacon. However, the chips were terrible. Tiny portion of very very very overcooked crispy chips that were either not fresh at all, or had been fried to death. Our friends chicken burger (also way overcooked) came out a few minutes after my burger and he had a massive portion of chips that looked really fresh, so all very inconsistent. My wife had the mushroom stroganoff which was really bad. The mushrooms were all chewy and the taste of the sauce was strange. The garlic bread it came with was also overcooked. I'm not sure what the answer is, as if people had booked tables then you can't turn them away. We were warned there would be a delay, but not that the food would be bad and we'd still had to pay the full price. Obviously we ordered more drinks than we normally would due to the wait for food and they didn't even offer to give us these for free. Overall a very disappointing lunch. Not the wait staff fault that the kitchen was under staffed, but not sure it was handled very well and gave a bad impression of the restaurant.

This place has lots of awards but it wasn't for me. Small car park, about 12 cars, and smell of frying outside before even going inside. Sticky table and other tables too close to eachother. Service friendly but the food took ages. Was okay but left some of it. The others I was with, didn't love this place either I'm afraid. Sorry.

Do you ever go to a pub, realise you've found somewhere special? This is one of those for me! Wonderfully warm welcome from the owner and his clearly very happy staff. Clientele all looked happy and relaxed. Food was amazing! Locally sourced, home made, generous portions and extremely tasty. They even made my girlfriend a meal which wasn't on the menu - amazing customer service! Beer selection is fantastic - plenty for anyone, including craft beer fans. I even bought some to take home with me. I couldn't fault a thing. I'll definitely be back. Long may this place last!!

Excellent veggie roast and even better homemade ice-cream that tasted so creamy and perfect that I honestly think it is the best ice-cream I’ve ever had. If for nothing else, come for the ice-cream. But stay for the roasts and real ales. Great service, very relaxed and friendly place.

My family and i just had a really good meals, nothing too much trouble, 1 person wanted fish with no batter more than happy to do accommodate. Lovely home cooked food and very pleasant staff

Great pub,, great food, great beer and cider. We had spaghetti bolognaise and steak pie meal. Ghost Ship and a cider. Food available even mid afternoon. Portions good, quality great. We were able to park in car park, if full there is an Epping Forest car park (fee payable) across the road.

We went for a late Sunday lunch with some friends and our children. Really nice selection of beers and ales. The Sunday roast were spectacular. Good old fashioned British desserts. Service was very friendly and homely. Would highly recommend
