The Windmill in Hartlepool

Today the 17th of march I visited at 4pm when entering we were shown to a window seat that looks over their garden, we enjoyed sitting there, We got the menu and there was a good choice of food, I wanted a t bone steak as I had seen them on Facebook, they didn’t let me down, cooked to perfection, I had a fosters shandy and a a table water, The person I was with wanted lamb cutlets but unfortunately they didn’t have any, although she was very disappointed she settled for a chicken risotto that she enjoyed, One thing that I will note is the toilet floors were very wet and slippy around the urinals in the toilets, they definitely need mopping regularly as I don’t like standing in peoples p…… in the toilets, Will definitely be returning soon, I do recommend this place for steak,

We were returning home after our great-grand-daughters 5th birthday, (a 380 mile round trip). We popped in on the off chance we could get a table, the welcome was fantastic even though the restaurant was very busy and a table for three was found. A server immediately came to take our drinks order and they returned quite quickly. As soon as we were ready a server took our order. My grandson had the mixed steak dish, my wife had the frutti-de-mare, (Seafood tagliatelli), and I had the Ish burger. It is rare that we get three such different meals that were all fabulous. It may be a bit pricey but it is truly value for money. £65.00 for two lagers, a pint of lemon/lime and the three meals truly was vfm.

The food I had no problem with , I did have a problem with my eldest son been pushed or felt like by a member of staff which was in blue I got told he dont speak (English) which I know from working the is also excuse me in different languages all 3 of children have hidden disabilities as well as myself , no help or assistance from staff with meals which ment I had to carry my son and 2 meals which i couldnt so my daughter 11 years old ended up carrying 2 , staff trying to take high chair while had quad up my eldest son said that we had Said that we were in que no choice of desserts given yes it was busy , but felt like we where seated and dumped there was the odd member of staff came and took drinks, my daughter only ended up having 1 drink as we felt uncomfortable and squashed in the back area yes we all have needs we new it would be busy because of a sunday but I felt like the service could be improved massively a excuse me, or a random check in and instead of staff talking on the bar they could of helped people that they seen struggling by carrying the meals.

We booked a table, upon arrival they didn’t have a table available for us, even though we rang up prior during the day to book one, we was sat waiting for over 20 minutes for someone to take our order.

OK. But wouldn't be rushing back. Staff friendly and efficient. Food fair at best. Went for fish and should have stuck to pizza and probably would have been OK.

The food’s pretty decent, and I’ve been a few times now and enjoyed it. But some of the clientele that get in need to be vetted. There was a group behind myself in a booth, being loud and obnoxious and swearing constantly, a lot of the time at their child. I don’t think I’ll be going back if that’s the sort of experience we’ll be getting.

Had a lovely afternoon the cocktails were so nice 2 for 1 Love the open kitchen seeing your food being cooked I got a parmo and I really think it was the best I've ever had. Lovely atmosphere will deffo be back thanks guys

I've been here quite a few times now and have always enjoyed it the food and service are always fantastic but I went last night with friends for a birthday and was very disappointed. The food was great but the service was absolutely dreadful , we had items on the bill we hadn't ordered and I asked for a pot of tea and got half a cup of just warm tea. Asked for fries and got soggy cold and greasy chips. It was busier than I've ever seen it and just makes me think they can't handle it when it's too busy. There was people queuing at the door waiting for their table and we also had to wait for our table but only 15 minutes over. I just feel so disappointed.

Excellent carvery! Tried the Turkey, gammon and pork and all were cooked to perfection. Lots of freshly cooked vegetables to choose from with lashings of delicious gravy and amazing Yorkshire puddings! Staff were also very friendly and attentive. Would recommend!

We booked last minute for New Years Eve but the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. We had a choice of 2 tables for 6 and a high chair provided for the baby and plenty of room between the tables. Great menu choice and food quality was very good and reasonably priced. Attentive staff and quick service. Plenty of free parking at the venue. Our only criticism if it could be classed as one was that the music was very loud and made conversation difficult but it was NYE after all. Recommend and will eat there again I’m sure.

We took two rooms for a short stay at this hotel, which is part of and adjoined to a large pub. The rooms were fine for size, relatively clean and with nice enough furnishings, tea/coffee facilities, and a small TV. Here ends what good I have to say. The bathrooms were internal with no windows or working extractors, so they smelled damp and mouldy (and also were visible mouldy). In one of them, the toilet roll dispenser was jammed, and no one was able to fix it because no one had the key to open it. We were provided with a loose, half-used roll to balance on top. I also noticed that several things were in a state of poor repair, for instance the actual handles/locks on the doors seemed ready to tear off. Rooms are not serviced in any way if you stay for multiple nights. And despite being part of a pub that serves food, there is no breakfast service. It would have been helpful if we had been told about this in advance, because you are in the middle of nowhere, so breakfast is not easy to come by. The service was extremely poor. The pub staff are utterly clueless about anything to do with the hotel. The only member of staff that can help whatsoever in regards to the hotel is a single individual. If he is not at his desk, you're stuck. (However, when he was around, he was friendly and helped if he could.) Heaven preserve you if you attempt to call the hotel with any questions in advance of arriving. You can only get through to the pub staff, who, as mentioned, have no clue. You cannot book or amend your booking by calling. Their system is entirely automated and online; no one can help you. I did eventually manage to get some minor information from someone on the pub staff, but they were clearly extremely busy and rushed me off the phone. The hotel is situated halfway up a stretch of the A1. This means it is only accessible if you are coming from the north. There is no overpass if you're travelling from the other direction. You have to go all the way up to the next roundabout, then all the way back down. This will definitely inconvenience you. We requested rooms that were as far away from the motorway as possible. To the hotel's credit, they accommodated this request, and we found that the sound of traffic was much quieter and did not disturb sleep. Car parking was provided. I found puddles of vomit on the paths leading through the carpark, these were not cleaned away during our stay. Overall, it was the cheapest semi-inhabitable place within a few miles of Hartlepool, so if that's where you need to be, your options are limited. For a better experience, pay the premium to go stay at the Travelodge.

Good value for money, soup starter was good, potato skins were poor. Kids meals were kids meals I suppose, carbonara was surprisingly impressive and the calzone was good. Also customer service was friendly as always.

First time we’d eaten out since August... and we ate OUT out. What a fantastic job they’ve done of the outdoor area. Well enclosed, warm and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful... even when I had to send the first bottle of wine back because it had turned during lockdown. Although I did it discreetly (and was actually a little embarrassed to do it) the owner/manager didn’t hesitate to come to the table with an alternate bottle saying he was concerned with the rest of the case if one of them had turned. They were amazing.The food was fantastic. I had a fillet topped with pate that just melted in your mouth. Manager and staff were back to the table frequently to make sure everything was ok and even though they were clearly busy, they were always chatty and cheerful. 100% recommend and will definitely be back.

Greeted by the lovely Vicky, we were so glad to see the fantastic chefs and staff once again, even if it was outside.Quality of food still top class, finished off with an amazing sweet served by Nicola!Good safe covid measures in place. Several changes made which offers covered Seating if required, with an end panel to reduce the wind hill. Patio heaters also available if needed, but not today.So glad to be back and tasting this excellent quality food again!
