The Whortleberry Tea Rooms in West Somerset

Had a delicious afternoon tea, one sunny afternoon in the courtyard, which is quite sheltered from the wind. The more expensive package had a selection of teas, a good choice of sandwiches, a very light and fluffy scone each with cream and a choice of jams (go for the whortleberry), and a slice of cake each. My wife went for the coffee and walnut (I can confirm it was good!) and I went for the lemon and orange drizzle cake - also very good. You order just inside the front door and then go to the tea garden out back - tables are sanitized between customers.

Please open soon. Really need one of your breakfasts ! :) So I can have some lunch then have tea and sample the lovely cakes :)

Excellent b and b lodge. Stayed 3 nights in this cosy place mid October 2020. Private entrance and private parking. Would I stay here again? Certainly would! Great breakfast served in the tea room. Many thanks to the owners.

With china plates, cakes and jam! Had a really nice slice of whortleberry cake and tea. On tbe main street. Would visit again if were passing through Porlock.

Chanced upon these tea rooms and pleased we did. Loved the fruitcake which is so often not sold in tea rooms anymore. All very traditional and sweet. Love the loud tick of the longcase clock. Takes me back in time. Good coffee and teas. Very relaxing.

We had a sausage sandwich, cake, tea cake with strawberry jam. And it was lovely. So thanks to Helen and shaun (the owners).

Everything about this cafe is first rate - wonderful staff, lovely food and amazing cakes! Really pleased we found it while in the area and thank you for being so nice!

My wife and I had lunch here today, while on holiday in the area. Such a lovely welcoming tea room. Tea with real china. Tasty toast, sarnies and wonderful cakes! A really heart warming experience, so badly needed in these difficult times.

Traditional tea room... excellent service and food spot. Nice to see a tea room as it should be. Dog friendly and COVID measures done very well. We’ll be back next time we’re in Porlock. Highly recommended.

Wonderful service and a charming tearoom, accidentally ordered the double scone cream tea and thought I'd have to take the other home but they were so delicious and light I didn't leave a crumb! A great range of jams and chutneys to take home too. Faultless cream tea experience!

Lovely home made food and can recommend the chutney which you can purchase in the tea room. Nice town and interesting walks .

We popped in today for cake and drinks. Extremely good Covid precautions are in place. The tea was a great blend, loose leaf and served with nice China, which is a real treat. I enjoyed a flapjack and hubby had Cappuccino cake, both were fabulous

Wanted to visit for lunch but had some problems on the way there. We had 45 minutes before closing when arrived, and unfortunately they were really busy so I had to wait. Got a table and was only able to get scone or cake since they stopped serving lunch because of the time. Scone was delicious. I would serve loose leaf tea, though. I think they could stay open later during the summer definitely and I think they'd still get business.

A lovely place to stop for cream teas etc, fully complying with covid regulations, ask the owner about the whortleberry, interesting history.

This place is becoming a regular must do on my trips down here.Lovely couple running the tea rooms. They do the best cream tea you will find in Porlock. They also have a beautiful selection of cakes. Unfortunately I can't comment on the healthier things they do. Highly recommended.

Six of us stopped for cream teas today and we weren't disappointed! Lovely, warm, light scones with delicious local whortleberry jam. The owners are so warm and friendly and as we were sat outside, we were lucky enough to meet Willow the gorgeous retriever who loved cuddles. I would highly recommend.

Nice Traditional tea room. Situated on the high Street.China service and loose leaf tea give an edge of elegance. Excellent tea.Scone quality was OK. Maybe could have done with more butter / salt in the mix. Generous jam and clotted cream.Overall worth the visit.

Most authentic cream tea I had in Somerset. Lovely, charming decor and super friendly service by the owners. During the ever-so-stressful times of COVID, it was our pleasure to just sit, catch our breath and enjoy a relaxing, and delicious afternoon tea.

We stopped here for an afternoon tea and we have ordered a sandwich and a cream tea. Though that tearoom is small, the food served is fresh and the homemade jam is nice! The tearoom is run by a couple and it’s warm and calm!

Very well organised with all the right covid measures in place. Great breakfast, and the bread is to to die for.

Superb breakfast, simple but tasty and well cooked. So good I returned later to try the cream tea, even better! Delicious scone, generous portion of cream, local speciality jam and great loose leaf tea. Also very COVID aware.

I popped in for a late lunch with 4 girls - 2 tweens and 2 teens. The food was traditional but good and the surroundings what you d expect of an tea shop. I did get the feeling giggling girls weren’t exactly their target customers and that both staff and other customers would be happier with an more mature clientele but we all enjoyed our meal.

My husband enjoyed a cream tea and informs me the scones were the best he'd had, very light! Delicious toastie for me. Chatted to the proprietors about the history of the tea room and learnt about whortleberry jam. The jam is lovely - a must try! We highly recommend a visit.

After a long walk, we came to this tearoom. It was very clean and there were lots of cakes on offer. They were able to accommodate for my allergy. Would definitely recommend!

We stopped here for a late lunch on our way back from Ilfracombe and I'm so glad we chose here than any of the places we looked at whilst in Ilfracombe. The tearoom has a lovely little courtyard around the back, which we sat in to enjoy our sandwich and cream teas. Food was excellent and the owners were so friendly and helpful, catering for my dietary requirements with no trouble at all. The gluten free scones were delicious Shame we are only here on holiday, otherwise I would make this a regular stop!

Spotlessly clean tea room. Lots of delicious home made cakes for sale. Also offer a good range of preserves.

After browsing through lots of places to spend the weekend l came across the studio at The Whortleberry Tea Room and what a great find. I was looking for accommodation with parking, this can be quite difficult to find in small coastal villages, this place not only has a private dedicated parking space it is also a wonderful place to stay. The studio is located at the rear of the tea room and is ideally located for everything Porlock has to offer. On arrival the hosts Helen and Shaun gave my wife and I a very warm welcome and settled us into the very comfortable studio. Breakfast in the tea room was excellent and was made even better by the service and friendliness of Helen and Shaun. A fantastic weekend break, highly recommended.

Cute little tea shop. The scones were beautiful- homemade. Run by a lovely couple. Worth visiting + good to invest in this gorgeous little village.

My wife and I rang in the New Year in beautiful Porlock and had the pleasure of staying in the fabulous accomodation provided by lovely Helen and Shaun.Whortleberry Studio had everything you could ever want or need for a very comfortable and warm stay. Helen and Shaun even put small bottles of prosecco and some delicious homemade flapjacks in the room to make it feel even more welcoming at this special time of year.Our breakfasts on both mornings were absolutely exceptional. My wife is vegan and I'm vegetarian and we were both catered for beautifully. Our dog was given dog friendly treats by Helen to make him feel as welcomed as we did.Thanks so much once again Helen and Shaun. We'll be back very soon!

I knew that I would like this tea room after the owner kindly replied to my message asking about Christmas opening times! We called in for breakfast whilst staying near Porlock. Toast, coffees and hot chocolate were enjoyed. We look forward to returning.

Called into Porlock after visiting Porlock Weir, where there was nowhere open except the pub and hotel. Parked opposite the post office and noticed the tearooms, what a delightful find. Just fancied hot chocolate and a toasted teacake, which were excellent. Wish I could have done justice to more, the scones looked amazing, very generous portions. Came away with a pot of whortleberry jam though!

On a potter around Porlock we stumbled across this fantastic tea room. We enjoyed a fresh and tasty homemade breakfast. The prices were reasonable, service excellent, the tea was served loosleaf with a China tea set and the selection of cakes was out of this world. Exactly as a team room should be, recommended!

A wonderful cup of tea and genuine home- made food. Melt in the mouth shortbread. Our toastie was freshly made and beautifully presented. Lovely jams to buy too.

The tea was so good I asked where they got it. I was directed around the corner to buy a packet from a local tea and coffee blender. Ethically sourced tea.

Been twice to this delightful tearoom friendly helpful and the tearoom is very clean and tidy. Thank you for the lovely breakfasts before we left to go home this morning and letting our dog be able to come in. Highly recommended and the food is great. You won't be disappointed !!

My husband and myself sat in the tea patio with our 2 dogs. We enjoyed toasties and the best fruit scone with jam and cream I have ever had! Friendly service in a cute village. Try the scones!

What a lovely, peaceful little set-up for the two of us and our dog. The room was bright and airy and well-equipped with all you need for a few nights' stay. The full enclosed garden was an excellent bonus as it allowed our little dog to make the most of her stay too! The bed was very comfortable too. Loved the addition of home-made shortbread/flapjack daily! The breakfast was the best we have ever had in a B&B;, with everything cooked the perfection and plenty of it. Regrettably we didn't visit the tea room for tea/cake as we were out all day during our stay but the cakes were baked fresh every morning and looked beautiful.

Excellent homemade gluten free scones, that good I had extra to take home, victoriana style tea room, with g/f menu. Dogs are welcome, and they have an outside garden too. Brilliant.

There are many Cream Tea Cafes in Devon. Most of them are very good, some are ok. Whortleberry Tea Rooms are exceptional. Its like you are eating at a dear friends house and they have spent all day preparing you a delicious lunch.

10 of us popped in just for tea but the menu had Scones n Cream n Jam : ) n gluten free scones :) :) choice of Strawberry or what..... Whortleberry??

Popped in here while on holiday for a snack. Although this was our first visit, we where made to feel welcome. Service excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our cream tea, so much so that we visited the tea rooms again the next day.

We popped in here on a Sunday morning as the local coffee shop wasn't open. We found the atmosphere to be really awkward and quite unwelcoming.

We visited and had the best ever cream tea. The scones were to die for beautiful and the jam delicious.

We have enjoyed many a morning coffee and light lunch in Whortleberry Tea Rooms but never again. After a gruelling 3 hour drive we arrived on a Saturday morning at 8.58am looking forward to a Full English breakfast and joined a short queue standing in torrential rain. Proprietor opens the door, allows the first 3 in (apparently they were part of a larger party due for breakfast), turns to us and says "We don't open until 9am" and shuts the door in our faces. Being fair, I have rated what they serve as Very Good, because it is, but I don't care how good the cakes are, lady, you have just lost yourself two local and regular customers.

Super quality produce..my lads slice of Victoria sponge was enormous....they use local Miles read and coffees.

Visited here with a friend and her dog. We were all made to feel so welcome and the tea and cake were lovely. The owners obviously work very hard and should be very proud of the establishment they own. Highly recommended.

Beautiful tearoom and the afternoon teas looked delicious but I ordered a cafetière of coffee and I can only assume that it’s not often asked for as it was very weak even after being left to brew. Disappointing!

A warm and friendly reception to two wet and weary walkers. Great food (had the breakfast). Lovely strong coffee. Very friendly and efficient service. Enjoyed it so much we ordered several take out sandwiches for the test of our walk. Recommend stopping by if you are in Purlock.

The afternoon cream tea is wonderful and very reasonably priced. Although the whortleberry jam is a little too sweet for my taste, it is preferable to strawberry jam. Spread very thinly on the lovely scone with the clotted cream on top, the sweetness of the jam is less apparent. Would I have another cream tea here? Yes, yes yes.

Visiting porlock for the day, needed a lunctime snack , stopped off and sampled there fab cream teas , lovely warm home made scones! Dog friendly place and friendly staff! 10/10

We came here with visiting friends on a rather wet afternoon in June. I had been here a year ago, and strongly recommended we come here. It was just as warm and charming as I remembered. The owners were friendly and welcoming, and the space is bright and cosy - filled with tempting cakes and homemade jams. Three of us had the cream tea, and one of us had the savoury scone followed by a delicious looking carrot cake (which I understand tasted as good as it looked). The scones were fresh and warm, the clotted cream was generous, and please do go for their speciality - the locally made whortleberry jam - it is truly lovely and unique. The jams are also available to purchase - a lovely reminder of the place. It is also dog friendly. Thank you - we'll be back again!

Popped in here whilst exploring the village of Porlock as we were in need of a coffee and somewhere to feed the baby. We were welcomed by a friendly couple and shown to a table in the window. We ordered a small breakfast, pot of tea and one of the savoury cheese scones with tea. We were accommodated with a pram, which I appreciate as sometimes this can be awkward! The food and drinks were lovely, espcially the scone which was enjoyed by both myself and my 1 year old! We'd visit again if we were in the area.

Just spent a brilliant weekend celebrating our anniversary. Helen & Shaun have really made it a lovely place to visit and stay.

This is a very good tea room/cafe at the western end of the main street. The new owners are really trying very hard to make it a success. The welcome is very friendy and the food on offer is very good - (there is a good selection of cakes). It is quite traditional, (like most places in Porlock) with the emphasis on good service and good quality.

A quaint traditional tea house/cafe in Porlock. We dropped in at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon to be greeted by new owner - Sean. Lovely selection of freshly baked cakes, loose leaf tea from the nearby Porlock blender- Miles, delicious scones & jams. Really lovely afternoon tea & cake, served in pretty crockery. Restaurant is clean, neat & traditionally decorated. You won’t be disappointed.

What a lovely couple running this place! The chocolate cake and flapjacks were to die for, the service superb and the lunches were fantastic ( Toastie, soup and cake). HIGHLY recommend this wonderful, old style, traditional coffee shop!

We called in for a snack but got tempted by the good value winter meal deal. Delicious home made burger, chicken pie and homemade crumble for dessert. So lovely to go out for a meal and be served homemade food. Excellent service and very friendly couple who are working so hard to make the tea room a well deserved success.

Great old fashioned tea room get in and enjoy the home made cakes (if you can, very popular in summer). I think the man about the place & cook is ex fire service, we were there at Christmas and the window display was a dummy Santa in fireman garb astride a model fire engine.

We popped in with friends for a coffee stop on Christmas Eve. We were warmly welcomed and tempted with the fresh cakes on offer. They were all delicious , home made especially the spectacular and made in the morning cardiac killer chocolate and fresh cream Christmas log! Well worth the calories and cholesterol! The cheese scones were flavourful and crumbly a sign of freshness and a skilled cook. Would highly recommend a stop here if you are ever visiting Porlock .

Popped in at 15:45 hoping that we could get some food and drinks and were greeted with a warm welcome. We ordered soup for my father and scones for the rest of us. Absolutely delicious. Massive hunks of crusty bread and plenty of butter went well with the hearty bowl of tomato soup. The scones were amazing, crusty on the outside and warm and light on the inside. Will definitely visit again, great service, lovely atmosphere and great value for money. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Had a few visits to here when visiting Porlock. It is a great cafe, the cream teas are amazing. Owners Steve and Anne are also very nice, and it is great to see their dog Chuck. A visit to this place is definitely recommended!

As soon as we walked in we were greated by a very friendly gentleman. Had me and my partner in stitches made us feel so welcome and at home. The lady was lovely as well and very helpful. There is a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in. The breakfast was lovely & so was my Latte. Please don't change, it is so cute & and traditional.

We arrived cold and damp after a long walk in the fog to find a warm welcome and a very enjoyable light lunch. The owners were very pleasant and happy to chat. Prices are very reasonable. Definitely a place to visit.

I had the beef stew and it was absolutely lovely, a big bowl with mash, peas and gravy. I finished it off with crumble which was delicious. Fast and friendly service. Definitely worth a visit.

Called in mid morning for a cuppa and tea cake. Welcomed by a lovely gentleman and a very laid back golden Labrador. A lovely pot of tea and toasted tea cakes served quickly and with a bit of conversation from the owner. Not too much to be off putting though. Lovely place with great owners.

Came back off the moors and decided to stop in Porlock. Saw this and gave it a try. Helpful staff, good size portions and Whorlberry Jam lovely (never heard of it before). Staff great with a toddler on nearby table and well behaved dogs welcome.

Yesterday I had the first full English breakfast that I’d had in years at Whortleberry Tea Rooms & I realised what I’d been missing. Steve produced brilliant breakfasts for my husband & myself. Quality ingredients cooked to perfection, at exceptional value served by Steve’s lovely wife. A perfect way to start the day & we didn’t need to eat again til evening! We will certainly be returning.

A really lovely English tea room serving the most lovely full English breakfast. All served up for a very reasonable price. A lovely place to visit for a relaxed atmosphere and a great breakfast to start the day. Run by a really nice couple who were extremely welcoming, I can recommend this place highly! Well done.

Tripadvisor has served as well. The suntrap garden of this wonderful cafe is perfect. The staff were friendly and funny as all of our scruffy team piled in. The food and particularly the locally roasted coffee were fantastic

We drove down to Porlock yesterday morning and we were looking for somewhere for breakfast. I had already looked on line and noticed the reviews for the Whortleberry Tea Rooms and headed straight there. The food was fresh cooked to order and delicious! We decided to buy some of the jam as gifts to take back home and were asked if we had ever tasted it. When admitting that we hadn’t, the owner offered us a taster. We were presented with a scone with cream! It was such a nice gesture which we very much appreciated. We will definitely be back to try out a cream tea on our next visit to Exmoor. Thank you! Oh, and we bought 2 pots!!

Whilst recently camping in porlock, my husband and I frequented the cafe for breakfast. The owners were very welcoming and made our visits enjoyable. The food was delicious and fairly priced, we bumped into the same customers on all 3 days we went there, so it’s got to be good! The cafe is very dog friendly and we met the owners very friendly dog too.

I recently spent a week in Porlock, in Somerset and stayed in the Studio at Whortleberry

Wonderful, freshly made sandwiches. Choice of teas. Lovely scones with locally made jam. Then fantastic cakes. We waddled out!!! AND we took the left-overs home. How good is that?

We called in to sample a cream tea, on seeing how large the scones were we decided to share one! And it was cracking, warm fresh light as air scones with a good amount of fresh clotted cream and some local whortleberry preserve, topped off with a generous pot of tea. We can thoroughly recommend this friendly tea rooms where as soon as you walk in you are greeted and seated! Great - do go!

After staying in Porlock last year and returning this week and after reading all of the wonderful reviews, I was determined to make time to visit this tearoom. I am so glad that I did.

My sister in law and I popped in today for a cream tea (for breakfast ... but that’s another story) .... the scones are absolutely they best we’ve ever tasted plus the service was friendly, and completely accommodating. This is a must to visit if you’re in Porlock.
