Don't be put off by a somewhat unprepossessing exterior when visiting this restaurant. Inside it is beautifully decorated with natural colours and artefacts, all of which make for a relaxing space in which to enjoy the superb taster menu. Although a taster menu, you can have as man y courses as you wish and are not hungry at the end of it! The strength of the cooking lies in the original and interesting combinations of locally sourced ingredients - all of it beautifully presented. There were too many excellent small details to list here but of particular note was the terrine of smoked trout, haddock and slices of potato and the scallops, which were the best my partner had ever tasted. The pannacotta with cherries and chocolate covered Turkish delight squares was absolutely fantastic too. A gripe that has nothing to do with the restaurant but the laws in Scotland now is that one cannot even have one small glass of wine to accompany a meal if you are the driver. Nevertheless, if you are in Lochaline and want to enjoy really well conceived and delicious food, then when it reopens after the winter break in March/April, the Whitehouse is the place to go!

I am not a fan of taster menus but the choices I made were all superb and the balance of flavors and tastes were perfect. The mussels to start with smoked fish served with seaweed in what was almost a cullen skink type broth was to die for. Next up salmon with a perfectly crisped and salty skin served with a scallop and smoked mussels was devine. loin of lamb followed again perfectly cooked and the fresh mint leaves just complimented it perfectly and I finished with a sweet of locally picked brambles made into various items. I loved every mouthful of this meal..... Nearly every ingredient sourced locally or grown in the garden. This is as good as it gets...

Carrbridge Kitchen

20/02/2019: Popped in yesterday afternoon for tea, coffee and cakes after a great walk up in the Findhorn valley near Tomatin.
21/03/2019: Just loved this little restaurant. Clean, great service and everyone had a smile. Offered suggestions that were spot on and the food was absolutely delicious. Waitresses(both) super helpful and entertaining. Gave us tip for our trip for the next day and recipes for our meals today. All the food is 99% made in the kitchen and locally produced. Even the venison came from the waitresses own shot. Dad, the chef joined in on the conversation, too. Fun time . Venison pie is marvelous as was the cranberry, bacon and Brie panini. Oh, my! So good!
