The Whitehouse in Rochdale

We visited this pub Dec 2023 and was made to feel very welcome by Ethan, he was very welcoming and friendly also extremely knowledgeable about the area, hence why we have returned in our campervan. All the staff where fantastic. The food was lovely, i really couldn't fault it even if I wanted to , can not wait to return.

Visited on a weekday lunchtime to meet up with friends. Pub opens at 12 and by 12.30 it was full!! Despite the staff being kept busy drink and food service was excellent. A special mention to the lovely lady behind the bar, Helen, who made us feel very welcome.

I was a quite disappointed as the food was brought out for 4 and the fifth came when the others were nearly finished, something I find very annoying. Presentation of the food was a bit lax. I had to ask for the bill twice to no avail so went and paid at the bar. To be fair it was quite busy, but I left feeling it could have been better.

The staff were very helpful, polite and attentive. When the food arrived, it was well presented and most importantly hot. Will definitely be going back.

Went for lunch very nice as always. Good atmosphere very friendly staff, nice view's over towards hollingworth lake. It was very very windy and we needed to hold on each other to stop us getting blown away.

Fantastic pub and the steak and hale pie was incredible. I travel to a lot of pubs and always try the pie. This was up there with the best. Lovely to chat too. Definitely visit if your passing

An excellent, surprisingly large homely pub with great hand-pulled ales and open fires. Given how murky it was outside, the White House pub was a real haven!

Came mother's day! Phoned up midweek to book and managed to fit us in last minute..really glad they did as was busy even with awful weather conditions!!.anyway didn't do a starter but was lots of choice..as it was sunday i opted for the Roasf beef dinner was lovely with roasties and veg..mother had the sea bass salad and jacket spud...both cooked lovely with quick service as well..both had desserts with home made lemon meringue was delicious as was the sherry trifle..id defo be coming back up (better weather next time ) to admire the views up at the top!..defo worth a visit..lovely place lovely food and attentive staff with great service..well done all..

Went on Saturday night food not as good as normal. The lady that took our order seemed in a bad mood don't think we will going again .been going for years alway been lovely

Been coming here for years, last 2 visits was the worst of services. Have you changed your chefs?? Second to last visit, 16oz steak was dry for a medium. Last visit the plate sizes where small and my brie was saturated in fat. I will not be returning. I give thanks for your previous services, good luck for the future.

Lovely warm welcome, delicious food and splendid views. Lots on the menu to tempt a return visit.

Got stuck in the snow on my motorbike ( don't ask ), got to the White House, with others who were stuck in the snow in cars ! The Owner ( I assume ?) and staff were all welcoming, and cheering everyone up. I had a coffee and meal ( lovely food ), The owner asked if I wanted anything else, I said 'yes please, a snow plough and a gritter' she came back 10 mins later, and said on it's way, and it did come 20 mins later !! That's what you call service ! I haven't been into the pub in quite a while, but now we will definitely call again, good friendly service, and nice food. Well recommended !!!

I had the 7oz Gammon which was very good, nice pint of beer, the staff were excellent. This is my 3rd visit in recent months, 26/02/24, previous had fish and chips, this time had gammon again, first class food, all my friends had different meals, all were excellent, service very good, cant fault this place, local walks good too.

I visit here regularly, and the food is lovely. After recently changing to a vegan diet I was very happy today to find a Vegan choice on specials board. More of these, please 😊

A lovely warm welcome well who can’t do that but was literally like stepping back into the 70s the chairs were worn and tatty and the whole place looked like it needed a deep clean even the menu had 70s dishes now I get the majority off the customers Whete shall we say over a certain age they like there comforts and familiarity but please can you send your cook chef to have lessons it was kind off a needs improvement more effort to be made food was dire I had I was ready to leave after first course then came out the apple pie soft guey pastry obviously been microwaved to death with gone off cream I couldn’t pay the bill quick enough awful food awful decor great staff

The Host and all the team members were fantastic. We booked a table for 17, 9 adults...8 kids at short notice for a birthday meal🎈 🥳 🎂 The Host and team were all happy, friendly and pleasant. Our drinks and food orders arrived at the on time so no one was waiting for their food or 🍷 🍻 order Over all a great delight to have dined in pleasant friendly atmosphere.

We have been going here for over 40 years and never been disappointed. We love the food and cannot complain about the service. We went tonight for tea and as always had a lovely meal.

Had a family meal for mum’s 80th. The pub is in a lovely location and the service was friendly and excellent. Lots of staff on hand to serve and help. The range of meals was vast and the prices competitive. Hard to make a choice and would definitely return for more. The game grill was great.

Love this place. Always a warm welcome and great food. 30-40 minutes drive from home but well worth it. Comfortable and relaxed. Never had a complaint with anything I've ordered. Especially cozy in winter when the big open fire is going. I always have the Cumberland sausage and my GF has a roast dinner, we can never fit dessert in.

We book a table 2 months ago for our Christmas Dinner 2 days before Christmas with our children only to arrive and be told by a rude staff member that our table had been given away to someone else, we was perfectly on time and told nothing they could do. Lovely and relaxing in a beautiful setting. Staff are so friendly and welcoming.

I will call here again. Must have new owners as it is a lot better than before.

Reasonably priced good food & friendly staff

We went for tea and had already decided to have the Christmas menu. I had the turkey and hubby had the venison steak. We both had the goats cheese starter. As always everything was lovely. The portion sizes huge (as always). Service first class. We can’t wait to go back in the new year.

Went for a birthday meal, food was gorgeous, staff were so friendly and polite and reasonably priced. My mum can't believe I've never taken her here before woops!

As a local the White House has always been a boat hole. a "when doubt" place if you will. Every time it has never failed to deliver. Our experience has always been positive. Staff excellent, Management attentive, Comprehensive Menu, food good without pulling up any trees. Prices reasonable. If you can get over yourself watching Masterchef the White House is all you need from a Pub / Restaraunt. Good food, Good Staff, Good Place - Keep it up.

Really good food well worth a Sunday dinner really enjoyable.

Without any doubt, the best pub food anywhere in the Nth Manchester area. The menu hasn’t changed in over a generation ( maybe you should ask why!!) bar the daily blackboard additions. The fair is competitively priced and efficiently served. I’m sure I’m not the only person in the recent past to have recommended this place and I won’t be the last.

Food was superb, we had Garlic Mushrooms and Squid to start with, followed by Lamb Henry and Steak and Kidney pie. Considering how busy they were, and when I say busy, it was absolutely heaving! We didn't have to wait long for our starters at all. It was hot and delicious. Then again after a short time of finishing, out came the mains, piping hot and even tastier. Nothing was waisted and the meat just melted in your mouth. Definitely worth the money, albeit not expensive at all!! Unfortunately, we were both toooo full to finish off with a pudding this time, but look forward to going back. The staff were very pleasant, helpful, polite and seem to be willing to help in any way they can to make you feel very welcome, and they succeeded :-). We would certainly highly recommend that you give it a go.

(For mash get Smash - google it) Anyway as usual I digress. We had 4 meals and all were superb or to go back to the 80's super, smashing, great. Youngun wanted to try steak and kidney pie but wasn't sure she would like it, she who must be obeyed order Lamb Henry (not sure who he is but apparently it's a thing) so they could swap. Older bearn ordered her usual fish and chips. I had the pork cheek. All were tremendous (as Craig Cash would say). Little'n loved the pie, and it was a proper pie to which you got a slice from a big pie, not one of these so called pies in its own dish with a bit of crusty pastry on the top only. Suffice to say no swapping necessary. Beer was super, service was smashing, and the price was great. Unfortunately no room for pud. I'll be back as Arnie once said. Oh, I would recommend mash potato

The smoked salmon on the starter was great, I hoped the prawns wouldn't be frozen given the pub is known for a good fish menu. The lamb Henry was the best I've had just like last time, veg a little over cooked but given the older patrons like it that way that's fine because the lamb is that good!.

Spent the morning walking around a few of the many reservoirs in the area and chanced upon the The White House for a spot of lunch. What a great find, the staff are so friendly and chatty and make you feel welcome straight away. We sat down in the front room overlooking the main road. The tables are generously spaced so no need to squeeze in wherever you sit. There is a good choice on the menus with some interesting dishes and a very attractive special menu that was exactly that, special. Being lunch time we both opted for the steak and onion baguette with chips, salad and homemade slaw. This was huge and delicious, the baguettes were generously filled, and served with “Proper” chips and a delicious salad, not just a few leaves tossed on the plate but a salad consisting of radish, cress, tomato, peppers etc. Delicious All in all a lovely afternoon enjoying a lovely lunch, well done The White House, see you soon!

Only had drinks here as its an absolute beauty of surrounding views. Everytime I go I say we need to eat here as its always crazy busy and the food smells amazing. Will be eating her every soon!

Absolutely lovely place, we ordered soup and halloumi for starters (soup was gorgeous) food was amazing and portion size was huge! Had burger and I ordered kids sausage and mash which was more than enough food for me and was very tasty! Very friendly and happy staff would definitely come back again, definitely recommend! Amazing views also!

Went here as a party of 7 for father inlaws birthday meal. Everyone enjoyed it. Personally I think the menu could have done with one or two more vegetarian options. I got the mushroom stroganoff. It was nice but a bit bland for my taste. The staff were nice and managed to accommodate an extra person in out party and moved tables even though they were very busy.

7 dined 6 different meals served and all meals were spot on.the chunky fish with chips were great. Definitely on for a repeat performance. Don't change the chef.

Just returned from a few days away, staying near Hollingsworth Lake in Littleborough. We went to the White House for Sunday lunch, about a 10 minute drive from Littleborough. Our lunch, roast beef was excellent and a good portion. The staff were very good and we didn’t wait very long for our food, even though the restaurant was very busy. The view from the restaurant was great, I’m sure there will be some lovely walks up there. You need to book if your party is five or more. There was only 2 of us and we were taken to a table straight away. Well worth a visit.

We arrived at around 4:30pm. There's no need to book for parties of under 5 people, but I was concerned that we wouldn't get a table, when I saw how many cars were on the car park. However, we were seated immediately. The staff were friendly and service was good. The menu had a great selection, sensible prices, vegetarian options, light bites, and plenty of specials. Starters: Two of us had halloumi, which was very good, one had garlic and herb mushrooms, also very good. My deep-fried brie was ok, although it needed another 30secs in the fryer, to achieve that satisfying ooze. It was served with the right amount of nice salad, and a slightly overpowering chutney - a little went a long way. Having said that, I enjoyed it. Mains: Two of us had the 'light bite' roast beef and Yorskshire pud - luckily, my daughter ordered hers without gravy (she hates sauces of any kind), as it isn't served separately. This was no mini portion - it was a proper dinner, and perfectly cooked. The beef was honestly the best I have had for decades. My husband's full-size version was more than I could've managed, even without a starter, so those with a smaller appetite, beware. My other daughter had the spiced chickpea burger, topped with feta. This was served on a soft bun, with chutney, and came with chips and salad. She said it was very good, very filling, although not spicy (which wasn't a problem.) The chips were very good. Desserts: We definitely didn't have room for desserts! A typical cosy country pub, a bit of a drive for us (35mins or so from home), and great for walkers. Sadly, the whole place had a slight grubbiness and would benefit from a deep clean (the table was sticky, the bin in the ladies' toilet was overflowing - little housekeeping details that needed attention throughout service.) But it won't stop us from returning - the food more than made up for it!

Slightly tired decor but brilliant service, lovely views and really nice food, lots of choice and not just the usual fried food you find in lots of pubs. I had the Cajun salmon with new potatoes and salad which was fresh and nicely cooked with a good portion. Worth popping in if you're in the area.

We had a very nice couple of hours here this evening. A really lovely atmosphere in a country pub with attentive friendly staff, I had the steak and kidney pie which I can honestly say was perfect, my partner opted for Cumberland sausage which he really enjoyed. Drinks reasonably priced, can’t wait to return.

We have been here a few times and haven't left a review. Staff are friendly and the food is very good. My wife loves the salmon. Meals are served quickly and there is a good selection of beers and wines.

We go to The White House regularly. It is a very popular lunch spot and table fill up quickly. There is always a good choice of meals with a large specials menu and the prices are reasonable. The service is swift and the staff are very pleasant.

Very nice cheese and onion pie chips peas and I asked for gravy. We were a party of 4 and we all enjoyed the food and drinks. Would recommend If you have a party of 5 or more i advise you to book .
