The White Swan in Northumberland

We visit this pub often with family and it has always been good. Our only complaint is what has happened to the handcut chips they used to be lovely and now they are hard and dry and spoil the meal to be honest. I hope this comment can be taken as a constuctive comment as i dont like to slate business's that are working hard to do there best and make a living. However if nobody tells them it wont get changed and i have spoken to others recently who have said the chips used to be lovely wonder whats happened. Hopefully this will get sorted and we will get the old chips back. Heres hoping

It has been a while since I visited the White Swan but found myself visiting there twice this week. First I visited on Wednesday with my Chief Taster, my Grandson. On this occasion we both had the Sizzling Duck. Cooked to perfection not to cooked & not to raw with an excellent Pink Tinge throughout. Today I was accompanied by my Wife who due to being in the catering Trade with her Mother & Father can be very critical. I had the Pork complete with all the trimmings, Stuffing & Apple Sauce, carrots not cooked until the life was cooked out of them and a further selection of seasonal veg. My Wife settled for the Northumberland Lamb again with the trimmings, which she remarked was tender a beautifully cooked. Would I recommend - Without a doubt. We have booked again for Sunday Lunch.Were the Staff OK. - Certainly very friendly and attentive.Give it a try, lying in a small lovely village it is well worth the trip.

Just had lunch today with my son and his partner. Food was delicious. It's great to get tasty home cooked food of such high quality Staff friendly and helpful.

On a walk from Wylam. As we had our dog we had to use the tepee which had a real fire which was perfect. Drinks and snacks were a good price with the hot choc exceptional value (and calories). Staff friendly and provided great service. Thanks. Why don't you advertise down at Riverside as cafe closed and the pub is not far and worth the walk based on our experience.

Excellent pub restaurant serving delicious homemade food. The pub and dining area are spotless. The service is top class and the food is top notch. The menu has a wide range of options to suit everyone and there’s a good range of beers wines and spirits. There’s also a lovely private beer garden at the rear of the pub. Will definitely visit again.

What a cracking place.We have just had a brilliant meal at this lovely village pub.Clearly popular and rightly so.The menu is varied with some great choices.The food was plentiful and tasty.The surroundings really cosy and the staff are delightful.All in all a much better than average Wednesday I’d say.

We have visited this pub several times over the past few years and it never disappoints. We have family in Northumberland and we live in the Durham Dales so it's a halfway point for us to meet. The pub is welcoming and friendly, the staff are so efficient. But the most important thing of all is the food obviously. We have had fish and chips, pies etc. all fantastic value and quality food, well presented. The Sunday lunches are the best around. Huge portions of beautifully cooked food and a range of lovely starters and mouth watering deserts. Completely brilliant pub. I almost don't want to tell you about it in case we can't get a table but you'll thank me for sharing it with you! :)

Great pub, very traditional and everything you could want from a local. The kids park out back is beautiful in gorgeous surroundings. Extensive menu and good selection of beers/ales/drinks. Only improvement is that maybe staff could give you a minute to get seated instead of following you around with big menus. It was quiet when we went and were moved from our chosen table because it 'wasn't the best spot for meals'. Slightly embarrassing after we were moved to indicate we were only there for drinks! Maybe ask first if patrons intend to eat.However, staff were very nice and friendly.

Great choice of Gins, lovely food and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was a Monday late afternoon and quiet. Would imagine for a Sunday lunch you'd need to book.

We are a family of 5 who visited for 3 evenings. The Swan is clean and comfortable and has beautiful views from the garden with ample parking. Friendly helpful staff and delicious good food, we tried fish & chips, steak, lasagne, hunters chicken, pie, gammon and all the deserts and would recommend it all. Average prices. Really enjoyed eating here. I

Been here a few times but I have to say they have managed to keep their quality and fantastic customer service. We arrived for lunch and even though it was busy we got served really quickly and nothing was a trouble for the staff. I work with guys from the USA and they would be blown away with the food at this place. It’s hands down the best you can get and the price is really good as well. All in a fantastic place to visit. Thank you.

Great for family meal with little ones. Sat in garden and staff helped me with vegan options - which weren’t initially on the menu. Very helpful and friendly service.Food was amazing - meat eaters in the group said Sunday lunch was fantastic. Deserts were amazing and excellent when you’ve got little ones - nice and safe garden area/swings/slide.

As a lovely treat, our Son and his wife took us here for Steak Night on Monday evening. Was it good? No, it was better than that! The pub itself is lovely inside but it was a beautiful evening so we sat in the garden at the rear and this was a good choice. The deal on steaks was something like two steaks and a bottle of wine for £25 - £30, sorry, can’t remember as we weren’t paying but whereby quite often on these deal nights, the steaks can be pretty average and the wine naff, these were very very good rumps and a seriously tasty Malbec. Highly recommended and may even be back next week.

We have visited the swan a few times during the restrictions and the way they have managed this has been brilliantly. The food is lovely, the service brilliant. Highly recommend.

Went in for lunch on Wednesday, not booked but plenty of room. Greeted by friendly staff and shown to a table and drinks order taken. Wow what a choice on the menu, never seen such a selection of sandwiches plus all the main meals. The portions are generous and well priced, what a great pub !

Every element of Sunday dinner is perfect here. The meat, or the nut roast, the veg, roasties, gravy and the Yorkshires. Service is prompt and courteous and price is very reasonable. Desserts are divine and generous. It is great to sit in the garden. Even in heavy rain there is robust cover available. There is not much parking but it is an added delight to park at or near Prudhoe station and walk over the bridge. There is quite stiff competition locally for Sunday dinners with plenty of choice and this is clearly the best.excellent for family get togethers.

Wow what an amazing wonderful bar/pub restaurant we were recommended too by a staff member of the high hermitage caravan park ! AMAZING FOOD !! Walked 10/15mins from campsite need to try If your in the area Dog friendly too inside & out

Great atmosphere, wonderful friendly patient staff considering how busy it was. Food was delicious, excellent vegan options. A group came in earlier and after eating all their food refused to pay. Shameful behaviour for such a lovely place. We will definitely be returning.The staff working Saturday 26th June are a credit to your business.

I was very surprised to be honest. Great service, and I had fajitas which were lovely. Not too spicy. Felt sorry for waitress as my friends were a tadge demanding!

Just had a lovely meal in the tipi, food was delicious and staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.We had halloumi fajitas, steak, lasagna and pizza, all were lovely, I even got a candle in my desert for my birthday.Thankyou

We visited here with friends for Sunday Lunch in the Tipi This was the first time we had visited The White Swan but it will certainly not be the last . The food was exceptional ..well presented good size portions and a wide choice of meats with also a vegetarian option and at £12 for a 2 course Sunday lunch an absolute treat . The staff were very friendly and the service was on point . A wonderful experience . Can’t wait to revisit .

sat in the teepee, 1st time to have a meal with a friend since last year but certainly not the first or last time at the swan. Service very good, friendly and efficient. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Happy to let us chat on. Can,t wait to go back with other sets of friends.

Due to the pandemic all bookings have to be made in advance which I did. However, a glitch in the booking system had not recorded our reservation with the pub. After showing my reservation confirmation the owner did everything to ensure that we had a good evening and managed to get us a table. Which was under shelter with a heater, which was better than the garden table that I had originally booked. A lovely lady waited on us, even though it was extremely busy, service was excellent and so was the food. The meal was cooked to perfection. This in one of the best pubs in the area, really pleased it is back open.

The owner of this pub has obviously invested a lot to make the garden welcoming and as comfortable. Food top notch, staff A+ and the beer is good too no negatives whatsoever

Slow service in a somewhat quiet pub. Almost half an hour wait before someone took our order. The food was okay, rather bland. Very expensive drinks however. Might return in a few months to see if there's any overall improvement.

Myself and my family have just a lunch at the White Swan, and I have to say that the food is really good. I've just had the best burger I think I've ever had. The staff were very accommodating and polite. Thank you for a great meal...we'll be back soon.

Second visit this month for Sunday lunch. Enjoyed a first class meal, excellent quality and value for money. Service was prompt and friendly. Well organised regarding Covid safety. Highly recommended.

Service very poor and extremely slow too two and a half hours to get drinks 5 main meals and desserts.have eaten here on a few occasions and always been good noticed a new menu went for the mixed grill big mistake the only thing hot on the plate was the chips and I think it was supposed to be gammon arrived without the advertised tomato and mushroom when I queried this the waitress just said that's how it comes.waited ages for them to clear plates then another long wait before a gentleman standing at the bar eventually wandered over and asked if we wanted dessert.wont be back

Great beer garden. Lovely and spacious. A welcome stop for drinks after staying at a nearby campsite.

The white swan is our most frequented Sunday lunch venue as they will always fit you in at short notice and the food is always lovely.We probably dine here twice every month and missed this terribly during lockdown.I have the lamb and my companion the Turkey, the seperate veg is ideal and gravy boat much desired.The mostly young staff are always happy and obliging and we never have room for desserts. Please give the swan a try ,you wont be disappointed.

Just moved to the area and lucky found this place close by we been twice once’s as a family of four then a family of six. The meat is unreal on the Sunday dinner, it’s not to thick and just falls apart I never really eat meat unless I cooked it but this was beautifully cooked. We also had a takeaway during coronavirus and the service was safe and professionally handled. The food is unreal and the staff are just lovely, you can tell it’s family ran business and it’s just lovely to see as a customer.Thank you for our beautiful family dinners can’t wait to return after coronavirus is gone until we will support you by takeaways and trying all of your amazing Desserts

We had a take away Sunday dinner from the White Swan in Ovingham and it was absolutely fantastic value. Delicious and plenty of it! Well impressed... Will order again definitely. Highly recommended!!

Called into the pub for Sunday lunch today which is roughly a monthly occurrence when I'm in the area.Excellent service and food. The horseradish has a lovely kick to it but it's like a drug to me.Makes my eyes water! HaExcellent Yorkshire puddings and piping hot food.Staff are always friendly and professional without being overbearing.It's well worth a visit if you've never been.." Full as a fat lads sock!"

As a frequent diner here for work team lunches and meeting's, I checked on line to pre order for 10 people, the menu online was great and has an excellent offer on for pizza and Pasta £10 for 2 dishes ... When i called to pre order, I was told by the waitress that that offer was only on a Tuesday, Nowhere on the menu does it state the times and date of this offer, I think we should have been honored this price as it what it states on line but we were not and for that reason i'd be a bit reluctant to go back.

We must be averaging over 15 to 20 visits to the White swan per year, we were devastated when we heard of the fire recently but everything is back to it's best. I had my favourite lamb,so tasty and lovely veg and rich gravy, my other half had turkey which was moist and flavoursome. We are always greeted as if old friends and nothing is a problem from owner to bar and waiting staff.get yourself down to the riverside and enjoy the delights.

Myself and my partner called in to check out the place since the fire. Looks a bit cleaner in certain parts. We stood at the bar and waited a while, a man came to the bar after us and was promptly served......we were almost going to leave when the girl finished her conversation with him and came to us. We got our drinks, and chose our meals. We ordered and didn’t have much of a wait.....one of the meals was a burger and we presumed that we would have to wait longer for that but once it arrived we could see why it hadn’t took long, we were expecting a juicy homemade burger but was t homemade and was dry as sticks. The meal I had was a pasta which had too much chicken in which was also dry and obviously added to the bland sauce afterwards. No one offered any sauces or even asked if everything was ok, had they done then we would have voiced our opinions but to be honest we didn’t even see any other members of staff......most were preparing to go home!! The prices of drinks seems to have increased since reopening aswell.

I recon this place loses a lot of custom because it’s not dog friendly, 8 of us would have stayed for a few hours yesterday but couldn’t because we had a dog with us. Fair enough not in the restaurant but you need to get with the times, people like to walk their dog and stop for a pint....must be one of the only “not dog friendly” country pub for a few miles

this bar is a cut above the rest,after a referb this is a fine example from rags to riches ,the family that own this are amazingly helpful ,happy people who do everything to help you feel so welcome nothing is a problem,all the staff are the same ,there is disabled toilet and access,the garden is lovely part of it is decking the rest in grass children play area ,inside is very nice too bright and welcoming ,sunday lunch you must ring for a table before going it is nice to be seated on getting there ,there is alot of chioce on menu,the food is amazing fresh produse .a wonderful pleasent experance.large chioce of drinks .

Booked for Sunday lunch . When we got there it was really busy which is always a good sign ! I ordered the potato skins to start and lamb for my main course . Both were delicious . I probably shouldn’t have had a starter as there was no room for pud, maybe next time !

I visit here every weekI love the atmosphere and the staff are the places thing about it. But the garden is desperately outdated When it’s warm they’re all over Facebook to come enjoy the garden. The slides the swings are borderline dangerous. The bikes in the garden which are obviously old Christmas presents are rusted and very dangerous Indeed Such a waste of a garden Benches are falling apart Menus are the same all the time have been for years. The specials board never changed either. Must make a fortune too. Sadly the if you e kids. Hate to say it. But the Adam and Eve has a better garden and menuMy opinion of this place has changed sadly. Sunday only Sunday lunch’s Alienating people not everyone wants a lunch on a Sunday. Seen people get up once they find out.

Brought my Polish godson here after a walk down from West Wylam a good few years ago. Nice mood, pleasant layout unlike most of the places in Prudhoe.

Great local pub with delicious food. Lovely staff and great to have a garden with some play things for the kids

Black and blue burger was insanely juicy and flavoursome. Very filling. Belgian waffle to finish was equally as tasty. Very friendly staff. Great selection of draughts Sets me up nicely for the next day's cycle! Will go back if I'm in the area again.

Pizza pasta was delicious, friendly staff, warm and welcoming atmosphere will definitely be back again soon.

Staff wonderful. Hair in starter, pork obviously hasn't been cooked from raw to plate, roast potatoes had never seen an oven the list is endless. I come here every time we're up here but sadly our last visit and my family from newcastle, their first and last visit.

There is always a warm welcome at the Swan. Lovely beer garden. Good food, good entertainment. Highly recommend.

Had been some time ag and it was ok,read reviews on TA and decided would try as had a look at the menu online,starters were all ok,nothing more,mains fish pie was awful over cooked just like a pot of mashed potato,gammon greasy had lo lift egg off and put on napkin,salmon dry and the spinach was gritty,won’t return.

Good parking. Nice outside eating area with fantastic view. Attentive, helpful and friendly staff. Good choice of reasonably priced well cooked food.

We have had visitors from Australia and they wanted to visit a proper English pub ! The white swan is exactly that, it's cosy friendly and always delicious food. They loved it and we are regular visitors to the pub. They also have a good choice of beers and loads of different gins. Well worth a visit.

We have been going to the Swan for years, it's a good mine, popular, pleasant staff, great food and great bands. We took our Mum for her birthday on Saturday, we ordered at the table, the girl on looked new do when she took our food order we ordered more drinks. We waited and waited and I had to go to the bar to ask for them to be told that they don't take drinks orders? Ok, well they have in the past. Good was lovely, got bill and noticed my husband had been charged for an extra beer. Knew we couldn't prove it, but was determined to let them know. One switched on dark haired girl refunded me his drink as she said there had been a mix up. I thought they would be with the long wait we had and I had written everything on my phone ( we have been stung in the past elsewhere). Just got my receipts put to check in and noticed that I was charged for an extra drink too, which I did not notice, probably because a sniff of a drink can make me tiddly! It's too late Now, but I'm well annoyed, I know they were busy, but I do not like being ripped off.

Pleasant surrounding, very helpful and attentive staff and excellent food. There is no doubt we will be back!

Always enjoy a visit to the white swan in Ovingham. The menus not over loaded with hundreds of choices its mostly proper English food and the food is alway consistent and to an excellent standard. The pub it self has a very welcoming atmosphere the decors perfect for the building and location.

Called by to have a pint and walking past a table where people were eating pizza I was instantly taken by the look of them - grabbed a menu & to our delight they were on the Monday 2 for £10 offer.

Well, can only say we were impressed. As they say, one swallow does not make a summer so we will go back and hope the see consistency. Had the steak special - 2 rump steaks and a bottle of red for £25 which was great value and very enjoyable. Good service, a nice atmosphere and good choice suggest this place has got it right and we’re looking forward to trying it again.

We visit the White Swan regularly as we camp 20 minutes walk from the pub. Always good service and value with a couple of nice beers on and very good food.

We wandered in without a booking as we had walked over from Wylam. Although they were busy they managed to fit us in as there was only two of us. Our service was pleasant and the food arrived quickly. Both courses (main and dessert) were very good. Would recommend!

We went as a family to celebrate two birthdays. It was very busy however the staff showed us to a table that was big enough for us all and in a prime spot to watch the football match. The food was excellent and everyone, including the children thoroughly enjoyed it. After the match finished a live band started to play. We had a great evening and highly recommended this pub, great atmosphere and excellent staff.

Friday Lunchtime visit, it's been a while since we were last here and unfortunately it wasn't a good experience BUT...…….NOT Today, the Pub was clean and tidy and the two young ladies behind the Bar were very welcoming and friendly. There was a great choice of Beers on Draft and having chosen the Theakstons we sat down and examined the Menu. We both decided on Burgers , my wife had the New York and I had the British Bulldog. Both arrived in a short time ……….They were HUGE ! ! !

Called on a Tuesday for pizza night . The pizzas were Amazing . Lovely pub , with friendly efficient staff . Can’t wait to try Sunday lunch . See you soon

Terrible service from staff, on 1 visit waitress spilt a drink on me and 2 phones, much to the amusement of the other staff , for the inconvenience they knocked the price of the drinks off the bill a total of £2 odd second visit on bank holiday Monday they weren't that busy but had a few reserved tables empty, after taking our seats and waiting to order for 10 mins we were then told no more food orders, due to the empty reserved tables , giddy help them when its busy , nice cozy bar and nice food but crap service , it will put us off going.

Unfortunately It went down hill from the moment we walked in, the place needs a good ovehaul, the seats are thread bare some have great big holes in them and some are covered in beer stain, and for the food it was dreadful, dried up tasteless meat, lumpy mashed potatoes, over cooked veg, it was bad ! And as for the beer garden furniture it needs putting on a fire and burning.needless to say I will not be going back to that pub for food again.

Visited on the 15th April service was excellent from the waitress staff. Only ordered a main meal each which was very nice home cooked food snd portion size are huge.

Came here for a girly lunch and a few glasses of vino.... the food was excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful. the appearance of the pub is very nice inside, outside there is a beer garden with children's play area. lovely location but not a lot of parking...

Food was VERY plentiful and really lovely. They actually do FIVE vegan options (a couple are adapted from their vegetarian menu). The nut roast was the best I've had in ages. The other half had gammon steak and chips, with onion rings, eggs and loads of veg and salad. Definitely going back.

We visited the white swan in ovingham on a Sunday afternoon. On arrival there was a warm, friendly atmosphere, and we were seated immediately from a pleasant member of staff. We had roast beef for the adults, and children’s portions for children. Excellent quality food, and to top it of we had the gorgeous ice cream for desert.

The bar staff were great, the food looked good even though we didn’t have anything to eat ourselves. I’ll be back to sample the food and desserts on my next visit, which will be soon.

Meal was as excellent as ever...prices are reasonable and wine priced sensibly for a bottle... All three staff were excellent ( Thursday 28th February) but one really stood out.

Visited on a busy Saturday to watch rugby. 5 of us turned up without a reservation and were warmly greeted by an extremely competent member of staff. We all opted for Mince and Dumplings and were not disappointed. The quality of the food was exceptional and the speed in which it was delivered was impressive. The atmosphere in the bar was great and the locals and staff alike were lovely. The rugby result didn’t go quite as we expected but the thats rugby for you. The young lady behind the bar was as probably the best barmaid I have seen in many years. She was simply superb. This is the second time I have visited for a sports event and the third time for food and we will continue to return again and again. Well done White Swan!

Last week we held my dearest Mothers funeral tea here and what wonderful spread it was!There was a great selection for us all and even for the vegans amongst us!And everything was tasty!The portions were generous and would have fed a Roman Army!Thank you John and staff very much you made our Mums final hoorah special for us!

Visited with friends last week having never been before but have friends who live in the area. We ordered food and drinks and I was overwhelmed by the choice on the menu, there were loads of things to pick. We each had something different. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and some hand cut chips, others had steak, salmon, burger and hunters chicken. Couldn’t manage a desert but the rest of my friends did, they looked amazing. There was a nice atmosphere, staff were friendly and prices were good. Will definitely be returning.

We went for Sunday lunch and as always it was delicious. Huge amount of meat and a lovely selection of 5 vegetables all steaming hot and freshly cooked. Great price as well.

Second visit to this establishment in the heart of Ovingham, Northumberland....this time mid-week and the place was not too busy but still very welcoming. The staff were attentative and engaging. The choice of food dishes is excellent. Friend and I opted for the Fajitas, Halloumi and Chicken with a portion of cheese and salad. The presentation of the tortilla wraps with the sauces dishes of guacamole, sour cream and salsa was wonderful and then the sizzling plates of main ingredients arrived cooked in spicy sauce with onions and peppers. There was enough to actually feed two on each dish. Not a morsal was left at end of the night, fantastic tastes and so filling. Definitely a favourite of mine now, however be warned the portions are huge and very filling. All of this with a soft drink and a coffee came to less than £14 each. Cannot recommend this place enough. Thanks for a great night!

Another great night at our local village inn. An evening of food, family and friends with dancing until the small hours.

Visited yesterday night (Friday 14th Dec), table of 9 for our work’s department Christmas night out. Fantastic food and service as expected; I’ve never been let down by this place. I’ve been a handful of times for lunch- £8.95 for a large, homemade pizza is such a bargain considering how delicious it is. All 9 of us were very satisfied last night with all 3 courses- the pan jus (gravy) with the turkey from the Xmas menu was incredible; meaty, homemade. I would have drank it straight from the gravy boat if I could !!!! A large variety of veg cake with it, gorgeous Yorkie Pud. All staff were accommodating, specifically the kind waitresses when I asked for more gravy etc. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone was happy to help. Highly recommend and will definitely be visiting more often!! Thank you for a lovely night with wonderful food and service.

Sunday lunch with son & daughter, fabulous food, great service, gravy snobs loved the gravy, only negative was the roasties, not roast but deep fried & uncooked in middle. Won’t stop us coming back though & next time I’ll make sure I’m not working later so I can have some of their lovely Swan Ale.

Visited venue for first time with friends who have been many times before. From front pub looks small but once inside it is a tardis ..... and a lovely village pub feel.

If your looking for fabulous food and great surroundings, head to the WHite Swan. A great and varied menu. Lots of delicious meals and also a specials board ! Really quick service and always delicious. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit.

This was our first visit and we were really impressed. The pub itself is very welcoming and cosy. The food was fresh and tasty and the portions were large! The young bunch of staff they have there are really polite and friendly and the food came out in good time. All in all a lovely meal out, we’ll definitely be back.

Great food and great staff. Thanks to the lady who fitted us in. 5*. Would definitely recommend and will be back

Had a great night out at white swan in Ovingham with a few friends.Pub is nice and cosy with a log fire and the food was great pub food with a really good selection (burgers and fajitas are my favourites) topped of with a great pint of Theakstons Peculiar ale.Could not recommend enough and all the staff are friendly.

Called in for lunch with my sister on a Saturday. We both had fish finger sandwiches with chips and salad. Came quickly and was absolutely delicious. If I lived closer I would visit more regularly. Young girls serving were really pleasant and helpful.

We found this pub by accident and popped in for a Sunday roast . The young staff were lovely and The food was terrific . The roasties were amongst the best I’ve tasted and extra gravy was offered automatically. We shared a pudding , Eton mess , which was nicely presented and tasted great

The welcome, the food, the staff, the log fire, the garden - all lovely! Toastier were a meal in themselves. We have enjoyed our drinks in the back garden during our summer visits. Go there everyonebut not all at once!!

We had a family get together the food was fantastic And the staff were first class nothing seemed to be a problem The Guinness was in excellent condition
