The White Swan in Harborough

Honestly one of the best chef's table /tasting menu I have ever had. The service was impeccable, perfect portions, perfectly spaced out, amazing wine pairings. Not a single complaint.

Ian sorry to say but I feel that the food is not as good as it used to be, The roast used to be,to die for, the best cauliflower cheese. Also a good portion size The beef I had today had loads of grissle The knives where blunt I struggled to cut the meat, Yorkshire’s as tough as old boots Overall very disappointed Overpriced food Over £70 for a roast lamb roast beef 1 lager 1 lemonade and 2 tomato infused rolls

I wouldn’t recommend visiting here. Few reasons. Firstly, we weren’t offered a drink before seating but straight to a table. When being seated (almost immediately - no host present) we were located on a table which was clearly difficult to access for two out of six of us. This meant the waitering staff struggled to access us and passed our plates over another on our table, it isn’t what you expect from a ‘tasting menu’ restaurant. Another issue we had was that there was only one bottle left of a particular wine and not enough for a glass - which is what we requested. Rather than offering alternatives, they brought the bottle and served it. No information given about the wine and placed on the bill at the end. Completely unclear about the price and no response from the staff member at the end when we queried that this was the most expensive bottle of wine on the white wine list. Unreasonable response and not what we expected from the service at a restaurant of this ‘standard’. I think the food was interesting / ok but not overwhelmingly excellent and it wouldn’t be enough to entice me to visit again.

We have visited the White Swan on a number of occasions now. Every single visit the food has been excellent, the staff are always friendly and happy to answer any questions you have, if they aren’t sure they quickly return after asking kitchen staff. We’ve also been a couple of time with our new born baby and they have always accommodated a table with access for our pram no issues at all. Our latest visit was Mother’s Day, the food exceptional and the complimentary glass of fizz was a lovely touch.

We had a delicious lunch, I really enjoyed my scallop starter and pork for my main dish.

My son booked for four of us to dine for Mothering Sunday. Unfortunately the service was not what you would expect from an establishment as expensive .We had to ask for a wine list as we were only given the drinks menu which included wine by the glass.On placing our order we were informed there were no fish cakes left as a starter , surely this should have been made known when menus were given to us. Secondly we asked about the bread portion how many to order for four , we asked would two be enough , we were advised two portions would be fine , when it arrived it was literally two small rolls we most definitely needed to order four , one each. My son ordered a side dish which never appeared, on asking the waiter he replied there wasn’t any left, we explained that it was ordered when we ordered our mains , he went to check on this and returned with the side dish saying he had found one . We had barely finished our desserts when we were informed they needed the table back in the next 15 minutes. Literally five minutes later the waiter returned to say they need the table back in the next five minutes, we informed him we had asked for the bill and was waiting for it . We still had a third of a bottle of wine left, I asked a staff member if there was any where we could sit to finish our wine , I was informed there was seating in the bar area , when I went to look for seats there were not any, I had to ask for the screw top back for the wine to allow us to take it with us . Bearing all this in mind if we had all had a starter there is no way we would have had enough time to eat three courses let alone have coffee. For what we paid I definitely feel the service and dining experience should have been better, more relaxing and less rushed.

Enjoyed the tasting menu with a friend. Great food, particularly enjoyed the inclusion of the “surprise” course. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Wines were good and some interesting pairings. Finished with the espresso martini to top off an enjoyable evening.

We had the Wednesday Wine and dine menu and it was lovely. The wine perfectly matched to the dish. The whole experience was a delight, the food, the attention to detail and the service, we will definitely be booking there again

We let the restaurant know in advance via their booking system that I’m Coeliac and require gluten-free. I was given a menu highlighting the food that can be adapted to be served without gluten. So far, so good, however … When my scallop starter arrived and the portion was miniscule. Perhaps a sufficient portion as part of a 6 or 7 course tasting menu, but certainly totally inadequate as a starter. My husband’s main course was a shocker – two tiny pieces of chicken – again okay for a tasting menu but a total joke as a main course. I had two slices of beef and it was really, really chewy. Our friend asked the waitress on three separate occasions for another glass of wine. One did finally arrive after the third reminder but only after he had finished his main course. His cup of coffee at the end of the meal also failed to turn up. The worse for me was on ordering desert. I again reminded the waitress to let the kitchen know to ensure it was gluten-free. Three balls of ice-cream arrived on a biscuit crumb. I question the waitress who initially said it should be okay to eat. As I medically must not eat gluten I asked her to check with the kitchen. It turned out that I had been served gluten. This is so worrying for me. I become really unwell from mistakes like this. Having put my trust and health in the staff this is not the standard I expect, or have previously experienced, from a restaurant overseen by a Michelin trained chef. The staff need to wake up. The meal was overpriced and their attention to detail was derisory. This makes me question if the kitchen has a cavalier attitude towards its customers health. Negligent and shockingly bad. The waitress was no better - her attitude came very close to being impolite. She certainly lacked charisma and served with a total lack of interest or enthusiasm. Just wished that we hadn’t paid the service charge as it wasn’t deserved. All four of us on leaving discussed the meal concluding that we wouldn’t return.

Stunning meal, absolutely beautiful food and venue and amazing service…what’s not to love! It was our first time visiting and we were not disappointed, we thoroughly enjoyed everything and will be looking to come back again in the future.

As always, me and my partner, Elaine had an amazing meal at The White Swan this Saturday evening. All the staff; from Rory the owner, Chris the head chef and his team, and the waiters & waitresses were friendly, attentive and couldn’t have done more to enhance our experience. I would recommend The White Swan to anyone who wants fine dining in a nice cosy relaxed atmosphere. Fabulous venue, fabulous food and brilliant staff.

A lovely experience. My partner and I came for the taster menu, the food was delicious, the staff were outstanding and very pleasant. A really nice atmosphere in the place, rather intimate and relaxing. Will be back for more.

Had dinner here last week over priced and underwhelming.

Travelled 3/4 hour to meet family here and had been recommended. No offer to take our coats when we arrived, had to ask if we could order drinks as no offer forthcoming. Scallops in the starters were overcooked. Some, but not all of the staff just unfriendly, which at any price point is unacceptable, but particularly so at £80 a head. We were very disappointed, which is such a shame. Loved seeing the family though.

This guy with his Michelin ( rosette) thinks he has a Michelin (star) with his big fridge & no wine. He has a bad attitude. Be advised stay away from this place . Food below average better off in a local pub.what an arrogant Richard he is stay clear of this place.

We went there for Valentine's dinner. The food was absolutely dull, we had the tasting menu but the staff didn't explain any of the dishes, we did say my partner cannot eat pork and yet we had to look the menu on the website to advise them that the "chorizo sauce" had for sure pork in it, we were rushed to finish because they needed the table after just 1:30 hours. Definitely will never come back to this place. The price doesn't match the food and the service.

The place was recommended by frind. Was very exited. In general good facilities, but unfortunately they dont use them. Visit on St. Valentines. There was no heating at all. The restaurant was empty, but all clients was sitting in one room only. No special atmosphere created for the day even if they sell a bundle for the day to celebrate. On the end surprisingly the estimated price when you book are without VAT. Very dissatisfied.

Booked a table for 10 people at 6pm pre~ordered!. Got our starters at 6.30 but the waiters kept trying to get us to order more extortionately priced drinks whilst we awaited our mains. Our mains came after I said I didn’t want anymore drinks just my food at 7pm. When the food arrived it was minuscule and cold . The place had absolutely no atmosphere, which was disappointing as they had 2 beautiful open fires but not one of them was alight ( it was January, a very cold evening). I found it was a very disappointing meal, celebrating my son’s birthday.

Brilliant service, amazing food at a Michelin level. Top athmosphere. Can't recommend enough.

Delicious food! Amazing! Went for Lunch today to celebrate Mum’s birthday! I had the Flat Iron Steak with Chips & Stilton Sauce & it was Beautiful! Perfectly cooked Medium Steak! Service was very good too! Will definitely return!

My wife and I had a fantastic time at the White Swan for the 8 course taster menu. The food was fabulous as was the atmosphere and restaurant. Staff were very attentive and a credit the the establishment. We loved the fact that one of the chefs came to the table to explain the dish and the story behind it. It was a very enjoyable evening which I hope to repeat.

The 8 courses were all excellent. It was midweek so the chefs brought some the dishes and explained what they were. We will definitely visit again.

Birthday celebration with older and younger teenagers. The food was absolutely delicious with a very good kids menu too, which was much appreciated. Everything was cooked beautifully with some lovely creative twists which really enhanced the flavours. Good to be able to thank the chef who brought some dishes to tables and was keen to know if everyone was enjoying the food. The service was just right. The atmosphere was warm and inviting (despite it being a treacherous & stormy night outside). If pushed, the lighting was a little bright for me, but it was fine. It was a lovely evening and I have already told all my friends to go!

Great attentive service, decent ambience (perhaps a tad bright) but what really marks this venue out is the food. Properly top notch. The only tiny criticism you could argue is the portion sizes, but then you leave them wanting more. Will be back for the next tasting menu.

A couple of months ago we ate at Raymond Blanc's 2 star Michelin restaurant. We've just eaten at The White Swan and I can honestly say the food was better tonight. Thank you White Swan for a wonderful experience!

Visited the White Swan yesterday for the Wednesday 'Wine and Dine'. It's a set menu which meant no faffing about deciding what to order and quick service. One of our party is Vegetarian which I forgot to mention when booking - not a problem, the chef knocked out 2 dishes for her especially, and came out to talk through what he had made. All the food was exceptional. The staff were really friendly and helpful and didn't try to hurry us out the door when we'd finished eating but continued chatting. The venue itself is beautiful. It's rather remote but well worth the drive. We will definitely be visiting again and I would recommend it to anyone who likes great food and service in a wonderful atmosphere.

We absolutely loved visiting The White Swan. Organised booked as a midway point family meal before Christmas, the food is beautiful and we will certainly be returning again all the way from Derbyshire & Cambridgeshire! I cannot overstate how wonderful our dinner was at The White Swan. It was booked as a surprise Birthday meal for my Wife. Correspondence in advance with the chef around preparation of a dessert for her was fantastic and friendly. The service we received on the night was impeccable and attentive, but we weren't rushed or pressured. As for the food itself - wow. I've never used the word "incredible" so much in one night, but that's what I kept coming back to. We were both absolutely blown away. I'd consider us well travelled and we've eaten at a lot of superb restaurants along the way, and I would honestly consider this one of the best meals we've ever had. So yes - incredible. Thank you so much.

Lovely , tasty food and a great menu. Great service too. However it was very noisy. They need some sound absorbing panels in the dining area. Otherwise we’d be rushing back.

We really enjoyed our trip to the White Swan recently. Along with great service in a beautiful setting, the food was DELICIOUS! Definitely recommend, especially for a special occasion. Looking forward to returning soon.

What a lovely bday celebration dinner at this restaurant! They were super accommodating about food restrictions and service was lovely. The tomato soup was amazing in taste and also top marks for the ham hocks and dessert. The accompanying wine selections were also top notch and I encountered one of the best Malbec’s that have had in a while. Definitely hope to return and absolutely recommend

Update 6/23: visited for my daughter's birthday for their Wednesday Wine & Dine. She thoroughly enjoyed it (as did we all). It's a three-course set menu for £29.50 (£39.50 with matching wine), which is great value for a Michelin Guide restaurant. Everything was excellent from the pre-ordered cocktail on arrival through to the dessert. The food is really high quality, though maybe sometimes the flavours are too subtle, e.g. the smoked broth with the fish main was almost undetectably smoky. I also think the lack of choice on the Wednesday menu might put some people off: alternatives are available on request but will/do people take up that option? Nevertheless a great experience and highly recommended.

This is a hidden gem of a restaurant, and one you will want to try, their tasting menu was absolutely fantastic, food and wine quality, food presentation and service, were all excellent, the ingredients were fabulous, and the creativity if the menu was super, not too off beat, but just really well designed and very well executed. Lamb Bacon with asparagus creme fresh and garlic oil, was a personal favourite, as well as the bantam egg with mushroom caviar.....we were meeting friends and had booked blind. For pure Michelin delight, don't miss visiting this beautiful gastropub and savouring its delights. The food, its presentation and the accompanying wines are of the highest standards. The service is exquisite and personal. Altogether it's simply delightful. Our wedding anniversary celebration with special friends was enhanced by the ambience - the four hour lunch was a treat - and the attention to detail and specific preferences! We can only give The White Swan our warmest recommendation. And note, although the pub is only a few minutes from the M1 and M6, and within easy reach of Rugby and Lutterworth, it's set in a beautiful rural idyll in the heart of Shawell. Treat yourselves!
