Visit on a rainy day.. the place has a great ambience, vintage and rustic look. Good for drinks. Friendly and sensitive team members.

Really great venue, the food here is absolutely delicious as are the drinks we had. To top it all off the staff were lovely too.

Le restaurant est "caché" à l'étage, il ne faut pas hésiter à grimper les escaliers et patienter qu'une table se libère... le jeu en vaut la chandelle !Les plats sont copieux et vraiment bons. A coupler avec une visite du quartier de Covent Garden.

We choosed this historical pub with a very quite dining room. The plates were very satisfying and well cooked in a traditional british style. The manager is very handsome and attentive. Don't miss it.

I'm not biased because this is my local - this place is great. wonderful staff; great and reasonably priced wine and beer selection and a great varied menu. It's perfect for mid-afternoon beers and sport but also has great live music on Saturday nights.

Went to The White Lion on Sunday 2nd June for family lunch, other family members said it was previously good, and was recommended however I beg to differ.The table was not ready, even though it was booked & the pub was not busy.As a party of eight, three of us had beef, which was supposed to be medium rare but was very rare to the point it was inedible and one of them was cold, two had the full works with the beef well done, but with very little of the pork & two had the chicken, which was good. However all the vegetables were over cooked.Gravy,mustard and Horseradish sauces arrived about 5 minutes after we were asked if we wanted any.Desserts arrived at various times with the first person served finishing before the last person was served. In addition extra custard which was ordered at the time arriving late.Although the staff were all very friendly,I did not wish to pay the £29 service charge (12.5%) of total bill due to the very slow service and quality of the meal.While this was probably an off day I would not recommend a future visit

Popped in before dining close bye. A nice pub with a decent r@nge of real and craft beers. They have a range of pub food but we were heading for a nearby Thai.

Great atmosphere in here and perfect menu of small plates. Vegan sharing board was good, but best bits were the cheese and chorizo croquettes and the prawn, chorizo and padron peppers. Didn't try the homemade infusions but they look great.

Gezellige pub/restaurant. In de omgeving van Covent Garden. Lekkere gerechten, voldoende keuze aan de kaart. Heel vriendelijk en correct personeel.

I’ve been a few times to this local pub/restaurant and the food is really good - one of the best veggie burgers I have ever had! They do £20 Prosecco on Friday evenings too which is great.

This was a Wetherspoons last time we were here. The new owners have made good improvements to the interior and facilities are very good. Impressive choice of beers, I particularly enjoyed the pale ale, at the usual London prices.

Very poor customer service by the manager herself regarding the food. We were a group of people who reserved half of the pub thanks to the singer of the night. Simply we were waiting to order, and suddenly they told us the kitchen was closed and the chef was not able to give us anything else apart crisp and nuts. She did not even acknowledge our queue and than decided she was not going to serve us and just tell us the kitchen is closed. She made fall apart our group because some of us did order the food with other at the bar and some of us were sent to the restaurant next door.

My boyfriend brought me here because he loves this pub & so do I now. Lovely first pub experience and amazing fish & chips.

We needed a last minute place to watch the World Cup and the White Lion delivered! Great atmosphere with a wide variety of drinks available. We managed to get the couches at the front of the dining hall with an uninterrupted view of the TV.

I had the pork and wifey the beef. Both we’re ok for the price (£15) but not spectacular. Staff are friendly, food was served quickly - the only minor criticism is it could have been a bit hotter.

Almost reluctant to review this gem in case it gets so busy we can't get a table. Great pub, lovely food and friendly staff. The roast was amazing - probably the best Sunday roast I've had in a pub. Definitely recommend.

Lo tanto platos! Lo que es más, el personal es encantador! Tan amable, atento y muy buena en su trabajo. Hace toda la diferencia. Sin duda volveremos para más comida deliciosa pronto. Pude visitar este pub en nuestro último día en Londres. Tienen una gran variedad de cervezas, ginebras y comida. Es justo lo que esperaba de un pub de Londres y más. El personal es muy acogedor y eficiente y la comida, bebidas y un ambiente inigualable. No puedo esperar a volver de nuevo.

Good laid back pub vibe here spoilt by the music they play. A few good tracks interrupted by loads of cheesy jazz funk so minus a mark for that. Food and beers good and they do some event evenings.

It was my first time visiting The White Lion, a few nights ago. The staff were ever so welcoming and friendly. Fantastic pub! Fantastic gin! Fantastic food! Fantastic staff! All in all a fantastic experience!

I visited this pub for a quick bite to eat the other day and was immediately welcomed by three bar men, all of whom presentable and really welcoming. I believe the first introduced himself as Harry. He went on to tell me a great deal about the wide array of drinks available and after recommending a Japanese rice beer, I was sold.Later, another of the boys, Woody, took my order at the table and recommended some of the new seasonal spring dishes which all looked delicious. He recognised that I was drinking the rice beer and so recommended pairing it with the lamb dish. This was a really lovely touch and his suggestion was absolutely spot on.I was very impressed by the range of beers, the quality of the food and overall, the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to meet the third member of this delightful trio but I'm sure he would have been equally helpful and charming. I will definitely be coming back!Thank you White Lion!!

Came here for the Eurovision party and have been on several other occasions, always a good night and good music

I've frequented this establishment many a time since opening and must comment on their high standards of customer care and pride in their produce. The food is absolutely delicious with a superb variety and the banter is consistently flowing. All staff are friendly and helpful especially a young handsome chap named Dishan. Definitely a winner for atmosphere and produce Thank you for my great experience, cheers ladies and gents.

Popped in to The White Lion with some friends for a drink on a Saturday. The atmosphere was really good and the selection of beers on offer went down really well with my craft-beer-hipster friends. A Scottish guy called Ian served us and was super helpful and really knowledgeable. We'll be coming back soon guys!

Spent a perfect Friday evening at this great pub...busy with drinkers and eaters and a fun vibe. Menu is good and the burgers (we had chicken and veggie) were spot on. Also recommend the organic white wine from Sicily, how quickly it seemed to disappear! Thanks to Andy and the team for looking after us, we will be back soon.

Visited this pub a few times and am never disappointed, friendly relaxed vibe, lovely charming staff and delicious naughty food! Love the fish and chips and Sunday roast! Was recommended a house infused mandarin gin by Hannah and it was lovely, there's loads of interesting looking flavours so definitely need to come back and try more.

A group of 10 of us ate here after the London Marathon. Unfortunately half of us were late getting to the pub, but the staff were excellent and we weren't made to feel rushed when we did arrive.Good choice on the menu, which we had pre-ordered due to the size of our group. I had a roast which was fantastic. Great choice of vegetables too, and a generous portion, so I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day! Prices about average for London pub group. Some good beers too to wash it all down.

The roasts here are lovely. Good quality, well cooked and plentiful. Like that cauli cheese is included and not an extra. Good for veggie roasts too. Staff are friendly, music is good and the booze selection is great. A very welcome addition to the area.

We ate at the White Lion at Easter and had a Sunday Roast. I wrote on Trip Adviser about feeling that some of my meal was disappointing - however - most of it had been very tasty and enjoyable. I must say that Andy, the Manager, contacted me about my complaint very swiftly, professionally and amicably and I now feel that my complaint has been resolved. It was really impressive to see how passionate Andy is about his pub. I will return to the pub in the future.

Despite living in the area, I don't normally frequent the pubs around Finsbury Park, as I was always under the impression that they would be rough (snobby, I know)Popped in briefly and was pleasantly surprised. Clean, nicely decorated, clientele seemed normal and staff were well presented. Will go back.

These guys are great - Hannah looked after our table, despite our awkward order, and made an excellent gin recommendation after our food... That actually infuse there own, with a handful of pretty cool flavours. Totally worth a visit, and even better with the big screens when the rugby is on.

This is a great pub serving good food at reasonable prices. The fish and chips was amazing, large portion. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the menu was varied. The music was a bit loud sometimes which was a shame. Would go there again to eat.

This place is a gem. I never dared to venture into it in its previous incarnation so what they have achieved here is no mean feat - a massive transformation.The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and the manager has a very personal touch. On one occasion, our table was wobbly, and he offered to top up my friend's glass, as it had slightly spilled due to the table. He then personally escorted us to to find another table. This was in the early days and this attention to detail has not waned in the slightest. I have only eaten there once but it always looks and smells good (the burgers were delicious), but often go for a drink with friends and it never disappoints. Very cosy atmosphere with bare brick walls with painted artwork, lots of space and it's never too loud or intrusive, neither does it feel lonely when it's quieter.The best pub in Stroud Green/Finsbury Park by far.

The White Lion is a lovely pub. The food and drink are great, and the staff are even better. Amy (or Aime?) is a bunch of laughs. Get her to treat you to one of the infused vodka's – a lovely little tipple.

I've been coming to this place more and more over the past few months.It's great for big family lunches on the weekend (roasts and burgers are always on point) and it's fast becoming my go to place on the commute home for a few pints with friends.All the staff are really friendly, great with kids and always seem to enjoy themselves. Service is consistently friendly and knowledgeable, and the drinks variety seems to get better every week. Keep up the good work!

I've been during the day at it's quietest times and also in the evenings at it's busiest and no matter what the staff are always friendly and helpful. If you like craft beer then this is the best place in Finsbury Park/Stroud Green at the moment. Beavertown Neck Oil on tap, Tiny Rebel by the bottle and many more. Always a tasty cask on rotation as well.The food is above average pub grub, but it's the beers I go there for. I understand that the wine selection is pretty good too

Pass by every day but always had a funny feeling about this place, odd looking people outside smoking etc.. ended up popping in last night with a friend and I must say it was very nice, very pleasant had some snacks and were great too, will definitely comeback!!

I visited this pub last week with a couple of friends for dinner and was impressed. The food was good, the service friendly and helpful (Amy) and the prices very reasonable. A great transformation from when it was a Weatherspoons!

A friend and I came here for a bite to eat and were pleasantly surprised! The staff could not do enough to help and even though the wait time was long, (there was a big party to serve behind us) the food was yummy. It is a bit pricey for the amount you get, but that's London for you. I would recommend it here, the vibes are awesome and the food is nice, they also do some pretty cool flavoured gin.

Simple straightforward and interesting menu.Couldn't pass up the opportunity to try two 'small plates' as a lunch.The deep fried squid (£6.50) with salad and Thai dipping sauce was spot on.Delicately flavoured and deep fried to perfection.Loved the Beef Tostada (£7.00) which was in a thin pastry case,chilli beef,soured cream,salsa and guacamole.Just perfect.All washed down with an Oakham Brewery 'Inferno' (£4.20) which has a lovely citrus backtaste.I know it takes flair and imagination to be this good and it really does stand out from the many other pubs in and around Stroud Green Road.Class act !

I recently moved to the area and tried this pub last week for a Sunday roast with friends. The food was lovely, we all had a different roast and we all said how good they were. I went for the pork belly which was a good plateful. The pub is really cosy with wood floors and exposed brick and I've been told it is quite new & recently renovated by the new owners as it was previously a dodgy weatherspoons. Will definitely be coming back for another roast & to try some of the craft beers they have on tap! Recommended!

Mondays and Tuesdays are definitely the best days to visit this place as you get two burgers for one on these days. They also do three sides for 10£, so you can get a fairly cheap dinner there. The burgers were quite nice, although the buns aren't very really to my liking. The burgers are also very big. I had to eat my burger with fork and knife, because it would have been a big mess otherwise.

Came here for a few drinks with friends on Sunday afternoon after a stroll through the park, looking for something to eat. Nice looking pub, renovated to a high standard and lovely to have the small bit of outside space. Good selection of drinks and prices were on par with other pubs in the area. But sadly the food let it down. Menu is rather lacking for vegetarians in the first place, but I went for the beetroot burger on its own for £7 (fries would have cost another £3/4). It was tiny for starters, which was a let down considering the cost. And the 'burger' was not edible as a burger because it was like a coleslaw type thing made of shredded veg with nothing binding together into a patty or anything like that, so you couldn't pick it up without it all splitting apart and spelling down your hands. Shame as the taste was very nice, albeit very greasy. But yeah, failure as a burger. Friends had jerk wings (which apparently weren't spicy at all) and the other had a burger and chips. I'd go back for drinks, but wouldn't return for a meal.

The White Lion used to be a pretty dank Wetherspoons, but the place is under new management and after a massive facelift, it's now my favourite local by far. The staff are absolutely lovely and the food is awesome (I can highly recommend the burgers and Sunday roasts). Thank you White Lion for giving Finsbury Park the boost it needed!

I was a bit apprehensive about going to the White lion; it's known as a bit of a dodgy pub. However I went there last night and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was really nice, good selection of drinks and great staff. I was served by Emma and got chatting to her, she was very friendly and introduced me to a few of the regulars. I will definitely be back.

Brilliant new pub for Stroud Green Road! The bar staff are really friendly and accommodating. The food was done really well and reasonably priced: £11 for an Angus burger with triple cooked chips, accompanied by some of the yummiest relish ever. The place is kept clean and there is an outside seating area from which you can watch the world go by! I love it and will definitely revisit.

Dirty, cold and terrible (or completely lacking in any) customer service from most of the bar staff.If you're lucky, you may be served by one of the guys - very nice, friendly and quickly get your order ready with no problems. No issues with these guys whatsoever - I was actually surprised the first time I ordered from one of them and as far as I'm concerned, they are the ones carrying this place in terms of customer service!If you're unlucky, you'll be 'served' (if you can call it that), by one of the sour-prune female members of staff who constantly tut because they don't want to prepare what you've ordered or whisper and snigger to each other while doing it.I don't tend to order food here anymore because of past experiences - small and cold most of the time, but wow, a pub that has issues when you order drinks!If I were in charge of staffing this place I'd seriously consider ridding the rubbish (ie mannerless, cretinous staff) and pulling in more of those like the guys here who are actually competent.

I have given this pub, their staff and food chance after chance!The food is apporling, the food is everything from frozen in then middle and microwaved dry on the outside. It's cheap but I rather eat a burger from a bin!The staff vary from being extremely jolly and nice to incredible rude! The clientele is mainly drunk people from the surrounding council estates. Due to the cheap drinks. Don't be fooled by the wifi! It hasn't worked for ages!!!!!!!!!Many local people including myself are avoiding this dirty place at all costs!!!!!

It's a Wetherspoon pub, so beer is cheap. Food served is also cheap, mainly frozen. Full of regulars. No charm!

Do you want to save money but also want to have good quality food in a pleasant place?I recommend 'The White Lion of Mortimer', a Wetherspoons Pub, about five minutes stroll from Finsbury Park.I met a friend for a long work + fun afternoon.Wetherspoons attracts people who have to watch their money - often students and pensioners. This pub had a really friendly older Irish crowd. I heard lots of rich country accents.Tuesday is the 'Steak day' and I really enjoyed my good-sized sirloin steak with chips, garden peas and a drink - all for £ 5.25!The food was really good, the steak cooked perfectly, the chips were golden crispy and piping hot. The presentation was fine.There is free Wifi in the pub and there is no music, so it really is perfect for a net working afternoon. Bar staff was friendly and charming. The pub and toilets were spotlessly clean. We got a lot of work done before we hit the chocolate cakes (and more drinks. But that's another story).

I understand that they serve veeeery cheap food (2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £14), but still especially when it comes to steak it's not a big deal to cook it properly.It was a decent amount of everything and I must say delicious chips but both steaks were just way overdone.

Went there 10am, 2 adults + 2 children ordered set breakfasts x 4 at 10.15am was given hot drinks over the counter and waited for breakfast, 10.30 waitresses said no sausages so I said hash brown instead. 10.45 still no breakfasts so I complained to the manager and showed him my receipt which said order time 10.15 he took it from me and stormed in the kitchen shouting at the chef.11.am manager brought out our breakfasts all cold we asked to have them heated he removed them all and again shouting could be heard from kitchen, the manger never returned.I went to the waitress and asked for refund she asked for my receipt I looked at the manager and said I gave it to him, the manager said 'I throw it at the chef'.Then the waitress tried to refund food only and charge for drinks, I insisted on the whole amount as it was a set meal. People who I took there were visitors from Florida and I was embarrassed by my local compared to Florida's breakfast service in I Hop. Never again Weatherspoon.

The staff seemed disinterested when we complained several times about the wait for our food. We even complained to the manager but he did not seem bothered that he had 4 unsatisfied customers. The food was off poor quality and the salad was boring.

We dodged into hereto avoid a downpour. As Sunday lunch was under way, we stopped to eat and dry out. Very cheap at £4.99 including drink: but both meals were short of an advertised item, and it took ages to have it added - needed the intervention of the manager, as the waiter (!) seemed not to speak English and was short of oomph. Place was half empty, and we understood why.

Called here on Tuesday steak night. I have eaten in lots of Wetherspoons and this is probably the best steak yet. Also the cheapest too

Usually I like Wetherspoons food, and I usually have a good time Not this time though... Bad experience all round, except for the time spent with my friends (one of whom also had to get a refund). Will never ever eat or drink here again. Disgusting service: My Classic Gourmet Beef Burger served to me (sans the cheese sauce which was supposed to come with it) less than 5 minutes after ordering by a sullen waitress (obviously she had much better things to do than serve us!), who almost threw the plate on the table. Of course, the burger was cold, which I discovered after a tentative bite, and I decided a refund was in order.This in itself was a traumatic ordeal, as the rude manager took half an hour trying to get the machine to locate my order (I quite believed he was fobbing me off, in an attempt to get me to throw up my hands and say "Oh never mind!"), and when he did find it, I still had to wait a couple of days for the money to come through, which was very annoying, and I was prepared to go back and demand for it in cash instead.The whole place has a depressing vibe, awkward layout, and a disgusting carpet which even Pat Butcher would balk at. Was a shame as well as I was looking forward to the meal (as usually I find the Gourmet Burgers lovely), but had I known the complete and utter palaver of obtaining a refund, I would've just sucked it up and eaten it regardless. To be quite honest, its best not to come here at all! If you're looking for a decent Wetherspoons, I recommend instead The Coronet on Holloway Road - a converted cinema, or The Gatehouse in Highgate Village.

Burger came within two minutes of ordering it, I ate to the middle and realised it was freezing cold therefore was not cooked properly. I gave back the meal and asked for a refund, the manager then decided to walk off and talk with his friend. The manager was extremely rude and unhelpful. The food did not fit the description, it came with cut up green chillis instead of jalapeños. He refused to give me a full refund. Then my friends food arrived again and it was COLD. He also refused a refund for her too. I am absolutely disgusted with the service I received and will never eat here or within the wetherspoons brand again.

Its not great food, of course it isnt, look at the prices! But perfectly decent, if moneys tight and you need something to soak up all that ale you could do an awful lot worse.

Unrecognisable from the car showroom it was in 1986, this is a lively mainly working class pub.Prices are very cheap for London especially for food. This is the standard Wetherspoon offering so it is of a reasonable standard responsibly sourced.
