The White Horse Smokehouse & Grill in Horsham

I popped in late this afternoon with my father.. I ordered the, Harrisa Halloumi and Avocado burger. Although, the dish was well presented, It seemed to be missing a vital ingredient… Avocado! When I asked why this ingredient was missing, I was told it was mixed with lettuce under the halloumi.. I’d say if anything it was only a trace of avocado. Certainly, not as described in the menu and not worth £15.95

Really disappointed with the food. I had 3 of the nibbles plates, which came out luke warm at best. The BBQ sauce on the wings and brisket bites was terrible and unlike anything else I have ever tasted, and a majority of the brisket was just fatty lumps. I'm guessing all of the food had just been put in the microwave. My wife had the pork belly which was not much better unfortunately. It's a shame as the pub itself is lovely and the staff were really pleasant.

Popular, judging by the number of customers and turnover. Good service, hot food, interesting menu.

Nice staff but the food was a big let down. Peas that were almost raw, root vegetables held so long over the hot pass lamp that they were wizened and finally chips that were soggy and lukewarm. It used to be so good there...perhaps too much menu and too small a kitchen? A small suggestion - get an answer machine!

Popped in there as spent a few hours around town. Would go back as food was reasonably priced good portions and pretty tasty. Warm welcome from staff who were attentive. They will be closing soon for 5 weeks as they are adding more outside seating and they will be opening in the mornings for breakfast..

DOG FRIENDLY!!! always love a good place that allows dogs!! My dog is epileptic so can never be left alone so to be able to go out into a very cosy warm place for some delicious food and a nice drink on date night is amazing!! Staff were super friendly and welcoming!! Came here a few years ago and had a lovely roast so decided to come back for round 2 and definitely wasn't disappointed Thank you!!

TERRIBLE FOOD - We went to this place for a New Year Eve lunch, and ordered the grills and etc. The atmosphere is great, service is great but the food really sucks! The grilled meats were so dry, seems like it was leftovers and reheated. I could barely chew it or swallow it. Very disappointed. We won’t go there to eat again, that’s for sure. We wasted £75!

As always, lovely here, but they donned some more lighting in the restaurant area. Went for lunch, and it was quite dark, which made it difficult to read the menu.

A group of us booked for Christmas dinner . I really enjoyed my turkey with nicely cooked veg and roast potatoes, plenty of gravy- on the side. The ferrero rocher pudding was delicious. The staff were great . Definitely will go back

Myself and my husband decided we would eat out. My husband had the burger,it had no bacon in it and I had three nibbles all meat. We have both been ill. Really not happy,now feeling awful for the remainder of our weekend. Never asked if our food was OK!

It was a very busy night yesterday so service a little slow but still 5 star. The food was excellent, beautifully cooked and hot. Bread& Butter Pudding was the best I have had in a long time. Hubby's steak was cooked exactly how he likes it and was a good size. When we visit Steyning again we will most certainly eat here Many thanks for a lovey evening 😊

Very good food good service nice atmosphere

Nice evening meal after work with afew drinks, nice food, decent service, the place was very busy which made for a nice atmosphere.

We have had a great lunch in the Bar area, dispite many other guests we got a good table with very comfortable chairs, the menue was very good, the waitresses were very friendly and helpful, my husband and our guests were delighted and we will come definitely again.

Our first visit here and we were not disappointed.. We had a very friendly welcome from Leah, who was very helpful and pleasant, with a warm, friendly and welcoming personality, an asset to the business. The cocktails were really good and the food was delicious. It was nice and cosy inside with a nice atmosphere, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be returning.

My wife and I went for an early dinner at the pub, which was already heaving when we arrived at 17:30. There was a child’s birthday party going on in the lower section of the pub - at a guess it was a 7-year old’s party - and the pub cannot be held accountable for the racket and pandemonium which ensued. Modern parenting seems to consist of parents shouting at their offspring to stop pushing/fighting with/not sharing something with another child and then settling back to natter with other adults without dealing with whatever it was they were shouting at their child about. The steak we had was delicious, as was the dessert, and the Ghastly Ghoul bitter (4.2%) was an excellent pint. So was the third one. The staff are relentlessly cheerful and efficient, and overall the atmosphere was enjoyable - dogs barking, people laughing, no background music or TVs, even the shrieking kids sort of melted into the background eventually. It’s a nice social pub with an excellent menu and nice, pleasant bar staff.

Always a great experience, have been back again and again. Lovely food and really friendly staff. Always enjoy for cocktails and nibbles with friends or for a proper meal for date night. Have also had family meals here too as a large party and we all enjoyed it. Lovely atmosphere in the evenings with fairy lighting and fire in the winter too.

Very busy sunny Sunday but still very happy to accommodate a coeliac. My chicken and avocado burger was the best I've had for a while!

First time visit and it won’t be the last. Went with friends and pre booked which was good as it was very busy. Large lunchtime menu with lots of variety. We all had starters which were plentiful and then mains. Myself and friend had crab salad which was delicious. My other friend had bbq ribs and there was so much she asked for a carry out. And my other friend had pork belly ribs which again was delicious. We finished off with dessert again lots of choice. This place is not over expensive ,tastefully decorated and to top it all of the service was very very good. The food comes out all together making the dining experience more special. Very impressed and we will be back.

On a Sunday afternoon this place was uncharacteristically quiet for a pub that thinks its a restaurant. Beer price was slightly below Brighton

Excellent lunch from the express lunch menu with desserts and soft drinks. Staff are friendly, professional and regulary check everything is OK. If you can't carry drinks they are more than happy to assist. More importantly they are very polite and are all smiling. Great experience, thank you.

This was very dubious. The place labels itself as a "smokehouse" and has a section on its menu titled "from the smoker" or something to that effect. We ordered something from this section and were served a plate of grey meat swimming in a rather red, rather sweet barbecue sauce. The meat itself wasn't particularly appetizing - all overcooked and it had absolutely not been in a smoker. There wasn't a whiff of smoke about it and it had definitely just been shoved in the oven for several hours and passed off as "barbecue". Weird and also somewhat misleading. Nice service though and passable beer.

Had high expectations due to word of mouth. Service was good and it's a comfortable and attractive venue. My major disappointment was that the two plant-based options for main course were both ultraprocessed meat substitutes. Once again vegans are an afterthought. It's not difficult to produce a good quality pulse and vegetable based meal. The dessert menu did have a decent vegan option.

Had not been to this pub for a while, even though it’s a five minute walk, so decided to book Sunday lunch in the restaurant. From the moment we arrived, the staff were very helpful and welcoming. We sat by the open doors so we could enjoy the sun. Had vegetable spring rolls, really crispy, and the vegetarian roast, both absolutely delicious as was the pork my partner ordered, and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this pub for great food, great service and lovely ambience

I and a friend, travelled far for dinner on 7th August. Pork Ribs under cooked and cold, apologies etc. reheated rendered inedable, we were both sick the next day. Nice waitress and chef "mortified" cheese board offered - staele offering - advdice unless you want to leave hungry and get sick, do not go there.

Good service, plenty of variety on the menu and a couple of really different dishes begging for a try. Well worth the money.

We had a lovely dinner. The house smoked brisket and the salad were delicious. Certainly worth a visit.

Different fiends and I came twice this month. Once in the restaurant and then for bar food. Service is always great at the bar and also very good on the restaurant. We all enjoyed the food.

Excellent choice of food served all afternoon into the evenunlike a lot of places midweek. They offer various portion sizes. All 5 of our meals were excellent and reasonably priced. It's a Greene King pub, but the menu is the pub's own, food was not mass-produced and reheated. The service was lovely, the pub was comfortable with subtle music and loos were nice and clean. Will definitely go there again.

No hand pump for cask Ale. Not even Greene King IPA, despite it being a Greene King pub. Beer is overpriced. This is more of a restaurant than a pub, so if you want a decent pint, try The Star or The Chequers.

Great food (the burger is superb) in a great pub. Steff and the team are brilliant.

Asked staff member if they had a table for 3. Who already said the smoke house is closed lunchtimes. He stated have to look for a unreserved table. As the floor plan has different levels and steep steps and one of our party is nearly 90 yrs old with walking difficulties I had a cursory look but all the proper level tables where reserved though high tables which were several were empty but impractical for oaps to eat from. We left.

Once the stable block to a former hotel, the current hotel is a very pleasant spot for an ale or meal. We both enjoyed very tasty smoked haddock mornay in the cosy bar. We'll be back to try other items on the menu.

Booked a table two week in advance for my husband's birthday. We arrived to be told that the restaurant wasn't open and we would have to eat in the bar. When querying this we were told that if there aren't enough bookings then they don't...

The food was lovely I must admit. Portion sizes a bit on the smaller side for the price paid. But absolutely no complaints on the taste of the food.. the white horse burger is flame grilled and so juicy. Could of done with some more chips and maybe a side salad with it.. the smoked chicken wings are very tender and dipped in the garlic mayo make a great combo. Chicken bacon salad looked good and I was told it was very nice. Cod wrapped in possicuto looked lovely and I was again told that it was so nice. All in all a lovely pub with a small carpark. I will return to try the homemade pie. 😋

Lovely pub,good feel, bar staff????? Had the interaction of a stone... almost like they are doing you a favour? Considering the cost of a pint etc etc, no smile,no interaction,no nothing... it costs nothing to look like you love your job...jeeez don't like your job change it! Customer service is king...no wonder places are closing....android personallity.

Ordered the game pie with chips and veg for 16 pound, when it came out I had to question the waitress if there was any more chips coming. I could honestly count 10 chips on my plate. The waitress said that it was there normal portion sizes. So I went back to the bar to order another portion of chips, another £5.50. The chips arrived and again I couldn’t believe the size of the portion. A small bowl with about another 10 chips in! Deffo order more if you want to be full

Had an excellent meal there today. Mixed House Smoked Combo was very very good, it consisted of a very large quarter smoked chicken which was well smoked and extremely flavourful, Smokey wings and brisket which were also very good, the bbq sauce they were served with was sweet and Smokey, not harsh nor vinegary. Avocado chicken burger, excellent. White Horse burger also excellent. Staff were very accommodating and attentive, the atmosphere is lovely, plenty logs going on the fire, dogs allowed inside which we love. In summary, excellent smokehouse food, most reasonable prices for the quality and portions, nice pub atmosphere. Thankyou very much, we Will certainly be back again.

Had a very disappointing meal, BBQ spare ribs, well meat should fall off the bone right, we had a problem even cutting them. BBQ sauce, not.. tasted like Davy. Light and airy well managed pub. Good menu.Plenty of choice and various options as to where to dine. Easy to access when visiting Steyning or passing by so good for meeting people.

Stopped at Steyning last Saturday and checked this pub. Unfortunately the experience was not the best… the pub had some customers but was not crowded (there were some couples if tables left), so I ordered a couple of nibbles/tapas to share only to after pre-paying for all to then one of the staff members come to the table informing that the food will be delayed (ended up coming over 35 mins after). When asked if at least then could bring the bread and butter, they said that was not possible and that everything will come together. When the nibbles/tapas arrived, was for great surprise about the portions (when compared with the price paid), specially with the toasted bread that had 4 mini-slices. When asked to the staff about if that was all the bread or if would be any chance of bringing a bit more to try the dippings, their reply was that “these are the portions we now have due to the costs of living”. Not necessarily that we needed to eat more, but when you end up paying 4£ for 4 mini-slices of (hard) toasted bread and butter (that is not even fresh), you can only expect better. I believe that the only good mention were the nachos, that had a good size portion for the price. Drinks price was average. Unfortunately it’s not a place that I would go back.

This has been a long-time favourite of ours, always reliably delicious food, a few extra treats and great service. Always found a welcoming and friendly atmosphere here. This old coaching Inn has plenty of room both inside and out with a separate restaurant at the main end and a street view garden at the other end. Good food from light bites to a full menu that changes with the seasons. The pub also has a good range of lager and ales with regular guest ales and great cocktails as well.
