The White Horse Inn in Mid Suffolk

What fabulous staff, nothing was too much trouble unfortunately the food is really poor, ribs were tough and the red mullet had a weird texture. Shame as the staff were wonderful and were let down by the quality of the food.

Great selection for breakfast. Good sized portions. Perfect poached eggs. Great value. Using local produce.

Booked on the day for six people and informed them that one of our party had food allergies. They said it would be no problem. Arrived to find it quite busy but were seen to our table straight away. When we ordered, we were asked who had the food allergies and were informed that the dish they had ordered was fine. My son doesn't like coleslaw or mayonnaise that was on his burger so he was asked if he wanted anything else instead. He was happy with baked beans but was given a few options. Everyone who served us were very attentive and we had a delicious meal. Couldn't fault it and will definitely return soon!!

Stopped for a meal, food was lovely and service was great. One of the few places that still serves food later on a Sunday night.

Eaten here today food ok chips very bad looked and tasted liked they had been cooked many times staff didn’t ask how meal was ,so they must think they are too good ! Sadly not ,to full of themselves!

Meal for 7 here, and we were very happy with everything. It is a lovely pub, with plenty of character. The food is excellent, well prepared and very tasty. It was busy as well which is always a good sign. We shall be going back soon.

Decided to try this place on my way back south from Norwich. Surprised to find superb food from an extensive menu. Polite if slightly cool service. Late Saturday afternoon between lunch and evening dining time I expected dishes would be limited to microwaved food but no, all things were available. I asked for some changes to my advertised meal which were accommodated without problem. Reasonably priced. Clean airy restaurant in a number of small rooms. Plenty of car parking but leaving car park onto the main road can be difficult if not dangerous.

.....need I say more !?. My Wife and I have been popping into this pub a couple of times a year for the last 8 years on our way to Norwich and have never left disappointed. The meals are both big on quantity and quality and the home made sticky toffee pudding is without doubt, one of the best things I have ever eaten. The staff are friendly and attentive and the whole pub oozes a feeling of relaxation and niceness. I have booked a couple of rooms as Im taking my Dad there to stay for a few nights this week. On the A140 with plenty of parking spaces it is surprisingly quiet inside considering the amount of traffic passing by the windows.We stopped one Sunday for breakfast and the standard of service ,food quality and comfortable chairs were very high. The breakfast is a buffet style along with a variety of cooked dishes with the toast and coffee being served at the table. It's not open plan but various areas creating a more intimate experience. The staff are well trained , helpful and appear to like working there. The cost is slightly more than the large chain pubs but it represents better value.I had the vegetarian breakfast and my wife the classic breakfast. Usually there are areas for improvement but the White Horse seems perfect as it is , well run and a charming place to eat an excellent breakfast.

I booked via the White Horse’s website and within the day I had a personal booking confirmation email.We got there, shown to our table with menus by a professional young gentleman, who immediately took our drinks order. Drinks arrived swiftly.We ordered the ‘King Burger’ and the Chicken and Bacon Burger, we also ordered a side of onion rings.Our food came swiftly. It was very fresh, hot, tasty. Infact, the King Burger is amazing, proper home made chips, huge onion rings and coleslaw. It was seriously tasty.For our dessert we each had the Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum and Raisin ice cream, again it was gorgeous.You cannot fault anything, from the email response right up to us leaving. The girls and guys working hard on the frontline are always polite, courteous and smiling. The whole package was superb. Thank you and as always we will return again very soon

We were desperately trying to find somewhere for lunch and they managed to squeeze us in at lunch time on father day. The service was great and super fast. The food was delicious (especially the chips... Devine!) We were too full to stay for pudding but a lovely meal all in all. Thank you

We stopped on the way past for Sunday lunch. There is a small nice garden and the food is nice with a wide choice. The desserts are also very nice.

Dined here on a saturday evening with my family. The food was excellent. I had fillet steak with homemade fries, husband had chicken with mustard and white wine sauce and my daughter had ribs. The staff were attentive and friendly and the manager was simply the best.... nothing was too much trouble. He even leant us a phone charger to charge our phones. Thank you for a great evening.Well recommended.

Chicken and wild rice in honey and mustard sauce selection of vegetables. Steak and ale pie with chips and peas. The perfect tipple being Aspall cider locally produced and Wherry,both tasty Puddings were warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and Bailey's and Mars bar cheesecake. For less than £40 this is good value for two people -this pub also caters for people with smaller appetites. All food was delivered in good time on a hot plate,by attentive happy staff.Such a huge difference from when we were here a couple of months ago a massive improvement very well received by both of us thank you

This was our 1st visit here with friends and we weren’t disappointed! Between us we had honey mustard chicken , steak and ale pie and lasagne , the food was gorgeous , piping hot and all the staff were really warm and friendly , couldn’t do enough for us ! Desserts were also really lovely ...highly recommend the rum and raisin ice cream , we will definitely be returning

This is the second time we have stayed at The White Horse inn, four of us arrived Sunday afternoon and went to our rooms that were on the ground floor and very comfortable they are, in the evening we had a very good dinner with our cousins who had came to join us and then 4 of us relaxed with a glass of wine.In the morning after a good nights sleep, we had a very nice breakfast, this is a very nice Inn with good food, good rooms and good value. We will be back again

I live in London but visited here for the first time as sister has just moved nearby. Mum and I stayed 3 nights. We had a lovely room, very clean and with comfortable beds.We all ate there the first night, very good food and wine. The breakfast was excellent, all the staff we met very friendly and helpful.I would definitely recommend this as a place to eat and stay.

We have been to The White Horse on numerous occasions over the last 6-7 years usually on our way to North Norfolk. This time we were staying locally for a few days holiday. We didn't realise that we were so close to the White Horse Inn and was recommended where we were staying, We decided to go for an evening meal. As usual we weren't disappointed. The pub/restaurant has been refurbished since we last visited but this has not changed the atmosphere. The menu has a good choice and the meal we had was excellent and very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

My Aunt and Uncle celebrated with family and friends for their 60th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 26th January. The food was beautiful, they catered very well for all the needs of the party, they brought round extra yorkshires, roast potatoes and gravy.Nothing seemed to much trouble.On behalf of my Auntie and Uncle, I would like to thank everyone at the White Horse for a really great meal.

This was our First visit here for a family party we stayed for the weekend the food was fantastic and the accommodation was excellent with friendly staff.

As a couple we have been regular visitors to this pub for 10 years now we come because the food is always piping hot good value for money good quality and there's good service.Alas not up to the standard we've seen so many times before. My liver was overcooked, mash was reheated which made it very dry. My husbands cabbage was unseasoned as was his mash and the sauce just seemed to be cream added on the top of the mash.The saving of this visit was the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream the ale and the Aspall cider. A disappointing visit. We also feel that the menu could do with a bit of a revamp some of the items have been on here for as long as we have been visiting this pub

My first visit to The White Horse was lunch on Thursday with some friends. The dining areas had a nice ambience about them, the menu was extensive, the food excellent as was the service. When it came time to pay the bill I felt it represented excellent value for money and will be going back soon. Thoroughly recommended.

6 of us out for Sunday lunch, booked for 1.45pm arrived early (1.25pm) mistake as was so busy !!!, table not ready on time so busy !!!, had drinks at bar as no seats so busy !!!, table ready 2.05pm so busy, ordered meals had to wait until 2.35pm so busy !!!. Food came all very good they were so sorry !!!

Me and my wife recently visited the white horse for an evening meal and were not disappointed. The meal was lovely and the service good and we won’t hesitate to return in the near future!

Had some wonderful lunches and dinners here. Great food, great choice and superb service. The huge traditional breakfast was hard to finish but I did because it was so delicious.

Lovely lunch at the White horse. Food good as usual menu has good selection and nice specials. Love the building and its exposed wood. At some point would love to try one of their Sunday room and dinner specials but maybe when kids are older

Lovely family Sunday Lunch. Great setting, nice decor, very good food. Sunday roast and full menu available plus kids menu. Helpful efficient staff. Good size helpings.I had baked camembert, roast pork and raspberry sorbet. All delicious. Other gluten free choices available. Well worth a visit. Probably best to book. Rooms available too.

Visited this afternoon with family. Very good staff, all very attentive without being "in your face". Sunday roast really nice, shame that you make the gravy with gravy granules though! But the vegetables were cooked well, not soggy. Shared the trio of puddings, how you could expect to eat one on your own!! All in all a lovely friendly visit. Will come back again soon I hope.

Great food. Recommendation for steak and Ale pie .whitebait .breaded muhroons.honey and mustard chicken. Huge portions.speedy service and friendly. Serve food all day 7.00am to 11.pm. With Pint and a tonic came to £38. ..looks expensive hotel from outside but reasonable prices.

After a long tiring journey back from Kent, we stopped off for dinner. I am so pleased we did! The venue is not a place we would normally visit. The restaurant was light airy and comfortable, not too cramped. I don’t like having to listen to loud people on the next table! The menu was quite comprehensive , something for all tastes and requirements.The service was good and the wait for ordering food and its arrival was short. I liked the quality and freshness of the food and the presentation of the dishes. It would be quite hard to resist on future return journeys.

Six of us had an excellent evening meal at this pub. The food was perfectly cooked, and the service was friendly and efficient. Also, the prices were very reasonable. Will certainly consider eating here again.

We went after we moved in and we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The first of is amazing and the presentation. The meal wasn’t too expensive and it was a lovely time out and a good brake from the unpacking process

Stopped here for an early dinner on our way back from Southend Airport. Couldn't face cooking at home. Excellent service from all the staff. I opted fir the lambs liver and bacon. Hadn't eaten liver fir years but felt the need of some iron. It was delicious, so tender, no horrible chewy bits. Well done to the chef. Huge portion as well, so much so couldn't manage anything else.

Lovely welcome and room was large and very clean. Walk-in shower was a bonus. Very quiet at back of hotel. Good position for exploring Norfolk and Suffolk. Food was very good and quite a varied menu. Staff very friendly. Would certainly use this accommodation again. Breakfast and an evening meal was enjoyed

Have eaten here many times and always had a good meal at a realistic price. Desserts not overpriced as in many restaurants and portions very generous. Very varied menu to suit all tastes, they even do half portions of some of the meals. Staff always very pleasant and helpful. Will certainly eat here again in the not too distant future. Parking very easy.

Not only a lovely visual restaurant which we have visited many times the last three years as local to us but tonight you excelled the food was amazing...hubby had the pie and I the chicken burger (mayo omg lush) attentive service x well done to all of you can't wait for next visit.

This is now our local go to pub/restaurant. And my third time I think to wax lyrical.We arrived and immediately shown to our table. On an extremely hot day there was air con running I believe. But no so cold it was freezing. Perfect. Drinks ordered and quickly arrived. I ordered whitebait as a starter. They were fantastic. With lemon, tartare sauce, bread roll and butter. For mains we had burgers and these were faultless. Home made chips and the coleslaw was divine. My wife had a raspberry and white chocolate sundae to finish, she tells me it was amazing. The youngsters waiting were as always attentive and on the ball. The establishment has been decorated very recently on the outside and looks the business. Excellent work by the owners. On another note this is now the best pub/restaurant in North Suffolk. We will be returning soon.Thanks to all.

We have driven past this Free House for so many years, and after its refurbishment we kept saying 'we must try there'....finally last night we did! It was busy, which for its out of village location is testament to the excellent food and service we experienced. Fabulous menu with great choices which they kindly adapted to suit my gluten & dairy intolerances. Thank you so much, we will return!

My wife and I stopped off here for one nights stay whilst house hunting, very impressed, comfortable room in the lodge set to the side of the pub, staff very friendly and polite,great food, well run by descent people,definitely stay again when in the area.

Stopped for lunch on our way for a week away. Weather was lovely so we sat in the garden and had a marvellous meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will recommend it to everyone.

Our three night stay over Easter was first class the staff were very helpful and nothing to much trouble.The food was very good we had dinner three night's a good choice of menue and the breakfast was first class Rooms were very clean and and well equipped.

We started going to this pub (having lived in the area for over 20 years) for the first time about two months ago. Not only do they serve excellent food they are open from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM. If we feel like a cooked breakfast this is the place to go. Their lunch and supper menu has just enough items so you can ring in the changes. They source their food locally whenever possible and I can recommend the grilled chicken in mustard sauce, the venison meatballs, the red mullet and last but certainly not least the lasagna. They serve smaller portions and the deserts are delightful but large (also served as smaller portions for most items). I would recommend the trio of deserts. Warning this needs to be shared. For chocolate lovers this is really close to heaven. The staff are excellent and not instrusive. We should have gone here earlier!

We had arranged to meet other members of our family, two groups, both travelling about 100 miles. Due to weather and traffic both were held up. The staff here did every thing that they could to make our wait comfortable.

Dropped in on the off-chance of availability for dinner and immediately seated in extremely pleasant upstairs dining area (and, we gathered, occasional function room).The staff were extremely pleasant and attentive and the food we ordered - Steak & Ale Pie and the Liver & Bacon, with Prawn Cocktail starters - was absolutely delicious with extremely generous portions of everything.Well worth a visit.

Have been visiting The White Horse off and on for over a year. Food is consistently good as is service. Best dish we think is one of the cheapest on the menu. Liver and bacon with a very decent gravy. A bonus is Woodfordes Wherry is on tap. Mind how you exit the car park in the dark as it’s on the busy Ipswich Road and not everyone keeps to the 50 mph speed limit. Overall well worth a visit.

We do use this establishment as and when we can. We were a family group and I personally had the whitebait, as a starter and the beer battered fish and chips, all of which was perfect. The rest of our party had various, all of which was enjoyed thoroughly. Good sized portions. The young waiting staff were also excellent, smart, attentive. Top marks guys! We will return soon and thank you.

I have been coming here as part of a large group for a Christmas party lunch for around 10 years. Every year, although it is thought a different venue would make a nice change, we are drawn back to the white horse as we are all very happy with what they offer. This year however is a different story. The Christmas dinner was nowhere near the standard of previous years, the staff were not warm and friendly, I would have thought cranberry sauce would have been on the table and asked for it as dinners started coming out but was made to wait several minutes while food was getting cold! Lots of small things made The whole experience not up to previous years standard.

Popped into the White Horse after work with an old colleague to catch up.We ordered food and it was delivered in good time and was piping hot.It did feel like the chicken was a bit artificial and microwaved but the burgers and fish were excellent. Beer range and quality were also very good but as I was driving I was unable to take full advantage.So why only 4 stars - the dining area was a bit clinical. We were the only people in the room and it was a bit cold.

Visited for an evening meal with young family. Fantastic children's menu- lots of choice and not just the usual chicken nuggets/fish fingers. Everyone's meals were delicious. Service was prompt and efficient - particularly liked not having to wait around for the bill with children we needed to get home to bed!

Came here for lunch on our way to Norwich. Looks good from the outside and was pleasant inside. Starters of breaded garlic mushrooms were ok. My fish and chips was lovely, big portion. However my wife's lasagne was bland and poorly presented. Service was good though. Just some food presentation issues.

We don't come here often but its the place we go for our celebrations. The food is great and lots you can order small plates, perfect as I am not a big eater. Pudding superb, apple blackberry crumble umm, tia maria mousse was part of a trio of desserts and my they were good. Staff are friendly and attentive. We are given plenty of time to finish our courses and drinks.

This was our first visit to the White Horse Inn for a birthday celebration having just moved into the area. Our son is in an electric wheelchair and we are pleased to say it is fully accessible with ramps, disabled parking and a well equipped disabled toilet. It also makes a pleasant change to see ample room around the dining tables providing good wheelchair turning circles rather than trying to get as many tables in as possible! The food was lovely, hot and well presented with plenty of fine ales available. The staff we especially helpful and friendly. Thanks to Barbara for a special evening. Highly recommended. I have been here on a few occasions and always been happy with the food. Unfortunately, following my recommendation we went and ate here on Friday for an early dinner. Two of us had the Steak, Mushroom and Ale pie. Some of the meat was so tough you couldn't get your knife into it. We both agreed it was pretty tasteless. Perhaps we ended up with the poor load of pies. However, we all agreed that the portions were of a good size. So much so that only one of us wanted a dessert but we did request a coffee to be served at the same time as the dessert. Regrettably, despite a reminder it never arrived - although it did manage to find its way on to the bill! This addition, however, was quickly removed in a courteous manner. Did we complain about the meat - no, we were never asked if everything was ok. They were busy with a large party upstairs and perhaps this is why. Having had a lovely Sunday lunch recently I was disappointed and embarrassed that had recommended it.

Food and drink has never let the restaurant down.... We live nearby and use the place about once every 6 weeks. Not for the first time last night the coffee machine was cleaned (a noisy process subtly indicating that the place was closing - at 9.50pm).Also in the main restaurant one less table would help with the ambience....sadly less customers being able to enjoy the great value quality food - bit of a quandary for the owner!Finally must applaud the local beers and cider!

Stopped in at the White Horse after a (very expensive) weekend at Dunston Hall to find the food was head and shoulders above the quality of food we had over the weekend.Fast service, very nice surroundings and steak which was cooked to perfection and half the price of Dunston Hall but twice the quality.This is now our restaurant of choice!

After a 7 hr journey we arrived very tired and hungry, the staff signed us in and made sure that we had a table in the very busy restaurant. We dropped our bags off into our lovely room and returned to have a lovely evening meal. We ate there for the two nights we stayed, and on the morning if leaving we had our family of 7 with 4 children joined us for a farewell brakfast, and the staff were so welcoming and accomodating. We have decided that now we have found this lovely gem, we will be returning here when we visit our family next time. Its such good value, thank you all for a great stay.

Several of us met here for dinner. We really liked the varied menu and were impressed by the prompt and attentive service. The quality of the food was very good and we all enjoyed an excellent meal.

We were passing this bar/restaurant on the way to Sprowston and called in for a lunch. We found the place to be welcoming and the food is of a very high standard. The homemade chicken nuggets are exceptional good, well all of the 4 meals we had were lovely. All of the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Turned up looking for a table for 6 early on a busy Sunday evening. They quickly cleared a table for us. Our waitress was very helpful dealing with a number of variations to the menu and sorting one meal that came out wrong before we even noticed. Food was great quality and good value. Option to have half size desserts was great as was allowing the kids to order mini versions of the regular menu.

3 of us went here for a meal out on a Monday night as we couldn't be bothered to cook!2 of us had the sirloin steak which was really good quality - notably so. The service was friendly and a nice big building sectioned off into smaller more intimate areas which is nice.Loads of parking. Recommended.

We took advantage of their Sunday night stay, we were made welcome as soon as we walked through the door, the food was excellent and the service was amazing, the room was clean and spacious, we just sat and watched the staff who were so efficient and never stopped always looked for things to do, we told the landlady she should be proud of her team and she said that they were all good, we enjoyed it so much we have booked to go back next month for two nights.

Reservamos este alojamiento en el último minuto, a sólo una hora antes de llegar. El personal era muy servicial y la habitación y el baño eran de primera clase. Una estancia muy cómoda con una buena cena y abundante desayuno. El director fue muy servicial y agradable.

Llegamos por la noche, aparcamiento amplio, pero muy ocupado, y el espacio anterior. Esto es una buena cosa no negativo.Llevaron a nuestra mesa, la cual era bastante pequeña para tres personas. Estaba ocupado y bebidas no llega. Pedí el whitebait, un fantástico parte de tamaño y muy sabroso. La salsa tártara también fue agradable. Nuestros platos principales estaban King hamburguesas y el pollo y el tocino y hamburguesas. Casero, sabrosa, el acompañamiento de col también era agradable. Yo estaba demasiado lleno para el postre, pero la familia era satisfecho con su chocolate brownie de nogal y el trío de postres.Bien, voy a ser crítico. Sudden decision to stop for a meal and we were not disappointed. A Comprehensive food and drinks menu and our food (the 3 of us had different meals) were cooked to perfection. The quality was high and the service excellent.

El White Horse Inn había sido recomendado por vecinos y reservamos una estancia de 5 noches. La habitación era espaciosa y estaba limpia y era preciosa y tranquila. Que bueno que nuestro coche aparcado cerca podría ser nuestra habitación ya que era de estilo motel. Reservamos cama y desayuno. También acabé comiendo cada noche en la posada, ya que el menú era tan buena y tanta variedad. Toda la comida estaba muy bien presentada, deliciosa! Nos las arreglamos para probar bastante en el menú. El personal era muy amable y muy acogedor. No nos podemos quejar de nuestra estancia en el White Horse Inn. De descanso y sin duda regresaremos a la posada.

La opción en el menú era excelente a precios muy razonables, todo el personal era muy atento, y constantemente comprobado que todo estaba bien. Todo esto gracias a los propietarios, un equipo de marido y mujer, que se aseguraron de que todo su personal no dejar nada al azar.Recomiendo encarecidamente una noche aquí.

Wow! A real find. The service was impeccable, food very tasty and generous portions too. We felt the price was reasonable £45 for 2 courses and drinks for two. As we live 10 minutes away we will be back. Well done!

I could not fault this place at all the room was lovely and clean and spacious. The staff friendly and polite and the breakfast was delicious, at last found a place that can cook a omelette. Highly recommend to others. Will be returning

We have had many meals here and all good. My husband was pleased to see the Beef and Old Speckled Hen Ale Pie back on the menu which he enjoyed. I had the Honey & Mustard Chicken which came with Rice and Kale, the latter two items I don't eat but it is never a problem to ask for a substitute, I ordered mashed potato and veg instead and when my meal arrived it looked good as always but a little bland as the veg was broccoli and cauliflower so no colour on the plate. I did find a very, very tiny piece of carrot tucked underneath the veg but will still give 5* as it was worth it. See you soon.
