Hidden gem, lovely cosy /warm little pub, entertaining felt very welcome by the bar stuff and all the locals I’m guessing. recommended as try travelling to Kent seeing family. The food was amazing couldn’t fault the steaks cooked beautifully and the burgers wow how much can one person eat haha, the service was spot on lovely young brunette/black haired nothing to much effort so welcoming. Will definitely return when visiting again!

We had a roast here today. The last time we visited around a year ago was absolutely superb. The food was exceptional and staff very nice. I was concerned that it may not be the same a year on. I was not disappointed, if anything it was better! I will definitely be visiting again and I won't be leaving it a year this time.

This was our first visit, Wednesday 29th Nov. We chose mainly from the over 60's menu thinking the portions would be small but were really surprised by the size considering the price! The starters, main meals and desserts were well presented, tasty and food was piping hot. The owner was attentive without being intrusive and there when we required more to drink. Even though we had asked a table by the door the restaurant was comfortable not too hot nor cold. All in all an excellent lunch out and we have every intention of returning.

Sunday roast dinner one of the best I’ve had in a very long time. The beef was cooked to perfection the roast pots wow they were so juicy and delicious tasty burnt services was amazing and the staff brilliant! Will definitely return.

Went for Sunday Lunch last weekend and had a fab Sunday Roast. Good home cooking at a reasonable price. Staff very friendly and efficient. Great view from the restaurant. Will definitely return.

we went there yesterday for my birthday lunch, the food was excellent, as was the service, we will be going back very soon.

As the only pub in Borstal village this really should be a community hub. However, I always find it to be quite unfriendly and has quite an odd atmosphere.

Nice and big pub with a good menu section of food.and all you would expect for drinks as well. There is a car park next door with a very good amount of space. The food they serve is really well portioned and is really tasty! I would even argue the portions are too big, but don't think it's a bad thing at all! The outdoor seating area is perfect for those summer days and the indoor area has a few TVs scattered around to watch the latest game should you wish! Overall thumbs up.

Went there today and had the fish pie, partner had the signature burger. Both dishes were lovely, the fish pie was very tasty and extremely well made. My partner said the burger was up there with the best ones she had tasted. Only here for a few days but definitely would return and recommend. Service was friendly and very helpful.

We had a very good meal today - prawn cocktail followed by beef and ale pie, which was extremely tasty. Apple crumble to finish. As a previous reviewer said "what's not to like?"

On a short stay in the area we thought we would give this pub a go as reviews looked good, and it certainly lived up to recommendation. We were greeted with a warm welcome and we can honestly say we have not eaten such excellent food in a long time. We visited on a Saturday evening, nice atmosphere with music drifting in from the bar and an outlook over a beautiful garden terrace where we may have eaten if the weather had been warmer. Big compliments to the chef!

10 of us visited The White Horse on 11/03/23 for a 40th Birthday meal, we had 3 courses and the food was very good and well priced, the staff were amazing and we would definitely recommend eating here and will return in the future *****

Came here with my friend last night and had the two meals for £15 which was a great deal. I had the pie which was so tasty and my friend had the burger and loved it (she’s had a fair few burgers in her time ha!). They have specials too so lots to choose from. Lady who served us was warm and friendly. Can’t wait to go back!

We had a group booking last year, food was quite food. However, what wasn't good, was clear manipulation to make patrons spend more money by drowning the food in salt, which naturally made you drink more & purchase more, maybe to recover monies lost during the lockdown(s). When the waitress came along, I, half-joking, said "nice way of making people buy more drinks by drowning the food in salt!" & she smugly said "Yep, it worked didn't it". Wasn't impressed, we used to go there & eat regularly until around May 2022, but we have not been back since, which is a shame. The rear garden is actually very good with a nice view, but we not be manipulated like that.

I ordered a mix skewered Kebab meal the chips and the pitta bread were nice but unfortunately the chicken and lamb had no flavour at all and wasn’t cooked properly. There was chunky onions and green peppers on the stick that wasn’t cooked properly. I wouldn’t recommend this meal.

We sat in the garden on a lovely summers evening, ordered a variety of different dishes which were all beautiful, my favourite was the smoked haddock starter! Thank you! Will be coming back again.

This was my first visit eventhough I've lived close-by for almost 14yrs.

Nice place to stop off for a pint. Sit outside and watch the world go by. Staff were very efficient and friendly despite being massively under staffed and incredibly busy.

Have just been here for Sunday dinner we were a party of 4 and it was absolutely faultless from start to finish the food was amazing we all had the mixed meat roast it was piping hot full of flavour and presented well. There is also a good selection of starters and desserts. The restaurant isn't big which makes it a more cozy feel and much more comfortable and the service was excellent I would definitely recommend.

I went out for a family meal here last night and was rather disappointed with the service we received. As a waitress myself I understand the pressure you can be put under especially with two larger sized tables, however we booked our return taxi for 3 hours after ee arrived at the restaurant and was unable to fit a pudding into that time- due to waiting 1 hour 20mins for a starter! There was only two girls on for the whole place it’s not fair on them or their customers! this is bad management

£15 for a very small salad was too much. Husband had a burger and chips, his dinner was so much bigger than mine and cost less. Had cheesy chips which would have been nice but they had put salt on themselves, but far too much so could not eat them. Sorry but will not go back. PS had a Pimm's and lemonade with far to much mint and could only taste the mint. Had a 2nd one but made sure not so much mint in it, tasted nice.

It's a nice place to visit. We had drinks and food which was Ok. I ordered Fish and chips and it all looked nice but the fish wasn't good quality and it was way to oily. We enjoyed our time in here anyway. Lovely garden and staff.

Brilliant pub, super friendly bar staff, nice atmosphere. I didn't eat here but the food I saw coming out looking amazing and only heard compliments coming from the tables. I've just moved to the area and popped in for a quick pint. They had 3 real ales - the TT Landlord was very good - and the other people in the pub were very friendly.

Very much a last- minute decision to visit, and one that was for the best. Very helpful and attentive service enabling a mixture of menu and blackboard choices for our meal. All enjoyed our selections and will return, certainly.

This is a hidden gem. An unassuming old pub serving really good homemade food. Not typical fast food pub meals as might be expected at first sight but a great variety of dishes including sea bass, pork fillet and steak together with a good variety of desserts all beautifully cooked and presented. The restaurant opens out onto an enclosed outdoor seating area.

We visited this lovely pub for lunch. We live on Devon/Cornwall border and used to paying far more for equivalent standard. The food and service was excellent. The steaks were tender and flavoursome with the burger equally good. The calamari, prawn and mussel starters were all tasty and good sized portions. We couldn't resist the desserts and crème brülée and coffee hazelnut mousse did not disappoint. Can't recommend more highly for delicious meal with friendly and welcoming service.

Great spot for Sunday lunch, hidden gem. good atmosphere friendly young waitress never too much trouble, our starters were amazing scotch egg, calamari & prawns in spicy butter sauce followed by sirloin of beef/ roast chicken breast for Sunday roasts my wife had the biggest burger with Chucky chips and Stilton cheese, brilliant selection of gins and beers recommended. Went for a meal four of us Saturday, had to wait a little while for the table but worth the wait food was lovely. Had steak on the stone tasty,service was good, although it was a busy but overall lovely atmosphere.

We have been to the white horse many of times for midweek and weekend meals the staff are always friendly and make us feel very welcome especially the children. I can highly recommend the roast dinners on a Sunday and also the catch of the day I have had the monkfish and the sea bass which are both equally fantastic and are a favourite of mine. The children’s menu is great and the Mac and cheese are a hit with my boys. Thanks again for a lovely meal look forward to coming again

Rang up to eat for a table was told couldn’t guarantee a table cos of COVID they do not reserved tables! So we walked in the restaurant was lovely a bit cold the service was ok, waiter must of been new didn’t know much about the menu we asked about the specials was fobbed off with little knowledge. The manger I think was about did not seem bothered, the bar was very noisy even though you had a spilt restaurant! Food was lovely thou!

We were holidaying in the area & booked this restaurant on the strength of Tripadvisor reviews. It was ok. Unmemorable. The property is split into a bar area & restaurant. Both spaces are pleasant enough, but not particularly cosy or warm & welcoming. Food was so so. Wines by the glass were good & nicely chilled. Service was inattentive, the server couldn’t be bovved. Not our best choice.

A very welcoming venue and even though there is a shortened menu because of Covid at the moment there is still a fantastic choice of food and the fish specials were amazing. Sea Bass, Hakr and good old Fish and Chips were enjoyed by most of our party, the the vegetarian there was a good selection and for the non-fish eater (me) there was also a great selection. The chef is fantastic and this pub/restaurant is well worth a visit. Highly recommended

After a long journey from stoke on trent we needed a good meal 😋 we got a 1st class meal. Thank you to the landlady chef & staff 2 steak dinners 1 spaghetti 🍝 with fee ice 🍨 desert and a cheese cake. Wow happily stuffed 😍
