Good honest pub grub. Good size portions and an a good choice of main courses. Homemade jalfrezi was really tasty and came with rice/chips, mango chutney and choice of poppadom or naan. Pub has a nice atmosphere and the service was excellent. Would recommend for food and drinks if in the Talybont area.

A lovely friendly and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a drink after a long walk. Our dog loved it and he was given lots of fuss and treats! We went for dinner in there on two evenings. Both meals were fantastic. Home cooked food and generous portions. A proper village pub.

A stones throw from our campsite and luckily we booked a table as the pub was full and no wonder why. The service is warm and friendly and the food is delicious. We both had the steak pie which I can highly recommend. We will go again next time in the area. Superb

We have visited twice this week whilst in the area - prebooked sunday lunch - perfect - good portions - friendly service despite being busy - friday evening - although not prebooked , seated and served with a great meal- service was excellent and the “is everything ok with your meal” a real welcome these days . Well done to all the staff - great service and superb food.

My wife and I dropped in at lunch on the off chance. I was initially concerned as they had a sign saying no service outside due to staff shortages but we decided to sit inside and give it a go. The barman was helpful and served a really good pint! I ordered a rump steak and my wife ordered a veggie lasagne. My steak was perfectly cooked, extremely tender and full of flavour. The chips were crispy outside, fluffy inside and not a trace of grease. The lasagne was nice and cheesy and moist, not a dried up offering you often get. Well done the White Hart despite the staffing challenges. We won’t hesitate in returning when next in the area.

Great food; good and quick service; friendly, helpful and courteous staff - the 3 young ladies, Billy and his mate, and the wonderful lady who gave me change for £20 AND the phone number for a local garage who Billy phoned. Geraint opened his garage for us to give us engine oil when AA just kept deferring their arrival time.

What an amazing welcome we had at The White Heart! Even though we were late for our booking, the service we received was outstanding and the owner and staff couldn't do enough to help. We had three dogs in tow and they were treated to 5 star service too and loved their treats! We had steak and ale pie and chips which was absolutely delicious. Honestly, we were blown away by the friendliness and helpfulness of the owner. Thank you so much! We will definitely be returning.

We were extremely hungry and everywhere was closed near to us! So drove down here. Hardly anyone in. Not a huge choice of menu but I had fish cakes hubby had chilli and it was delicious. Was so grateful it was open! If you like local pubs then you will enjoy this pub. Local pub for local people, lol. Everyone is extremely friendly here in Wales. Really enjoying our stay here.

We popped in at 1930 on Saturday after a hike that had overrun! Obviously a bit much to assume we could get a booking but we were able to get a table for 5. After the hike we all needed a good meal and all went for cheeseburgers with chunky chips. I think the bar lady was Melissa and she was great. A nice selection of 5 or so ales, whisky and several ciders and lagers. What’s not to like?! 5 clean plates and also some tasty homemade desserts. Will visit again.

Wow - Incredible Sunday lunch. We were a large group but all our food arrived quickly and was fantastic. I had the veggie lasagne. It was probably the best lasagne I’ve ever had in a pub. Staff were friendly. Hope to come back again some time 😊

More don’t s than do’s ! No WiFi, no sitting outside. Does not make for a welcoming place at all . Clearly staff have just been told what to say, but have no idea what the meaning behind the decision is when asked why ! Seems to be run like a military operation with to many rules to make it a relaxed environment.

Myself and four friends had a lovely meal here last Thursday evening the 13th October 2022. The food was very nice and the beers and wines good too. I was drinking Guinness and I must say that it's one of the best pints of Guinness that I'd had in a long time. Service was good and the landlady was very helpful with questions about the various dishes etc. We had a very enjoyable evening and will definitely be calling again.

Fantastic welcome at the White Hart! We’d booked for Sunday lunch but we are a needy bunch of girls all with different dietary requirements - they were so brilliant with us, essentially we made up our own veggie lunch with THE best Glamorgan sausages!! We visited as a stop on our canal walk. We were allowed to take a table over by the river. Even though we were outside we had to put on our face masks to cross the road to take our seats. We ordered our drinks and were brought a menu, the young waitress took our details for track and trace and returned with our drinks. This is the end of the good service.The same waitress then returned carrying a card machine, paper coffee cups and our track and trace details. She began by LIEING to us by saying she needed to check that what she had written was correct as her hand writing is poor. I could see the card and believe me her hand writing is just fine. She then read our address out to us and all other customers on the other table to hear before informing us that we had to leave as our postcode was in a lockdown area.When asked when this happened, as when we left it was not, she said she didn't know and that we had to pay for the drinks that they had already served us but that we could not even stay at the table ( which is outside) to finish them. She had served us two pints and brought us two paper coffee cup to pour our pints into and that way we could walk down the street drinking our drinks.!!!When we pointed out that two pints do not go into 12oz coffee cups she said she could get us more cups but we were to either pay and leave the drinks or poor them into what would be four paper cups and walk down the street with these. All of this done in full view and load enough for everybody to hear. I can safely say that we will return to the area in the future but we will NEVER spend another penny in this pub.I have never been so badly treated by anybody in the service industry before in my life .

Where to start. Such character & in the most beautiful location. Dog friendly i noticed, perfect!! Food/choice was fantastic. The staff are all so welcoming & attentive. 1 lady in particular stood out, she was training a young lad & really was committed to showing him the way, he's in great hands!! She also had a lovely manner about her, especially with the gentlemen I was supporting during this visit. I shall be back with my partner & my little best furry friend!!

Very OTT with Covid measure. The tense staff made us feel like leper’s. We came for a relaxing drink after a long walk but only witnessed the staff telling people off for not wearing their masks. On poor chap was putting his mask on and was still told off by the lady with the black T-shirt and short curly black hair. Also, someone started walking in to the beer garden without being invited by the oncoming staff. He was welcomed with a full on stop stance and her shouting stop. I was expecting her to get the pepper spray out. When drinks were served they were plonked on the end of the table furthest away from us. And when we wanted to pay by cash, she rolled her eyes at us. Also, I understand the need for information for track and trace but they wanted name address, phone number and postcode. I was half expecting them to ask for inside leg measurements! We didn’t eat but the food looked and smelled good. We only had bottled cider which was as good as expected. I won’t be coming back here. Found it too stressful. I know these time are strange for everyone but this place just needs to chill out a little bit.

Staying close by on holiday, we visited again tonight for the second time this week.The staff here are superb. They’re working extremely hard to absorb the new guidelines, to keep all their customers (and themselves) as safe as possible. The restaurant is very well distanced and no one is allowed to walk throughout the pub without a mask - rightly so.On both our visits, the food has been exceptional. Tonight, the lovely Manageress (Linda) offered us a lift back to our campsite to save us a dark and lonely walk along an unlit 2 mile towpath. An unprompted act of genuine kindness that meant so much.We hope to return sometime soon.

Stopped here today whilst sight seeing. We parked in car park and noticed the beautiful surroundings so wanted to take a photo before we went inside. As we walked from carpark towards footpath we were stopped by a member of staff and told the car park was for customers of the pub only. I explained we just wanted to take a photo before we came in for drinks and food, but she insisted that we must come straight in pub or park somewhere else! I was honestly gob smacked at how rude she was, so we left and said we would take our money somewhere else! Very disappointing when the pub was in such beautiful surroundings.

Visited the White Heart inpromtu for hopefully a spot of lunch. We hadnt pre booked but the staff offered us a table either inside or out. We chose inside and we were shown to our table by a friendly helpful lady, she explained the covid regulations that we neede to adhere to in these unfamiliar times. We ordered drinks and a meal. I had lamb shank and my husband had scampi. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and found the staff helpful and friendly. Their attention and adherence to covid regulations could not be faulted. As cafe owners ourselves we know how difficult it is to work with covid restrictions and the staff here did a great job. We have found a lovely gem in a delightful setting, and look forward hopefully to many more visits. Thank you. Just one p.s. A cup of coffee or tea after our meal would be nice.

have been coming here for many years and always had a warm welcome from the staff with great food,obviosly in these troubled times we knew it would be differant-but wow!!we popped in several times during the week and had good service from that set of staff,but because we had car trouble and i had to get towed home to get my van i missed our "aniversary meal" on the tues night so later in week booked a slot on sat-which is clearly posted TWO HOURS ,we arrived at 558 and were sat immediately then asked what we would like to order. i replied two pints please-and was then asked what food- not yet i replied we want a few drinks! we were then pestered about three times to order food before 630-then a woman (i presume the landlady) asked again for us to order and got into a heated debate with my wife about our two hour slot and was told i will return in 15 minutes and i will be taking your order!!! this was unaceptable and dowright rude- we drank up and left-we will not be going back!!! this is no reflection on the week staff just the saturday mob and the very very rude barman

Our first visit since lockdown and it was nice to be back. It was reassuring to see how seriously they are taking the Covid precautions: taking personal details when we arrived, sanitising the tables as soon as people leave and making sure the staff don’t come too close when taking and delivering orders. Much better organised than some other places we’ve visited in the last couple of weeks. The food was as good as always and we really enjoyed our visit. Hopefully see you again soon!

Have always liked the White Hart Inn and lunch today was no exception. Steak and ale pie and sirloin steak both cooked exactly how we like and how they should be, and nicely presented. Two Rhymney Ales on offer was pleasing. The post-lockdown regime is well organised, with instructions on each table, and proper distancing at all times. The staff were efficient, friendly and made us feel welcome. Booking a table in advance seems advisable, even essential. We had an enjoyable meal out there. Thank you.

My family and myself had just completed a local walk and dicided to have a cool refreshing drink, what a surprise, rude staff apart from Kate the drinks menu was so out of date that they only had a third of what was advertised, as a group of ten we were treated like lepers, not able to even sit at the same table or even talk to each other as we were seated at opposite ends of the car park. We had a lovely holiday until we visited the White hart.

The White Hart has social distancing sorted. Lovely staff, table service, great food, and clear instructions on how to order. Felt comfortable and above all safe.

We visited over the weekend with family for the first time, managed to get a table last minute which we weren’t expecting and were seated promptly. The tables were sufficiently spaced and the staff were all wearing PPE and sanitising surfaces and tables between each guest. We waited a short while for our food but on such a hot day, with all the staff adhering to distancing we were more than happy to wait. We ordered five meals in total and they were all lovely, would definitely visit again.

Would not let us book a meal when we parked up and tried to talk to a member of staff. We were told that pub was full but the view to us told a very different story. We said we would wait and a server told us to phone up to reserve. We were standing in front of the reservation desk???? My pregnant daughter asked to use the toilet and we would leave, again, no toilet use allowed unless we were booked in. It used to be a human right to use a toilet when in need. I will tell everybody plus more never to grace your hostelry as we certainly had a hostile reception.

First time visitors to the area. Stopped at the pub hoping that a table would be available for food and drinks. The staff were obviously busy but we were lucky enough to get a table outside. We were made welcome and were served within 10mins. The food was very good. Social distancing and hand sanitizer were maintained to a high standard to ensure staff and customer safety. We had a laugh with Linda who served us and we really enjoyed our evening.Looking forward to going back.

Just returned from a 4 day stay over at the White Hart Inn and we'll definitely be back. Situated on the canal and in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, you can walk out of the door and start walking. No need to drive to a starting point. Su and Owen are perfect hosts, super friendly and charming and the bar staff, especially Linda, are welcoming and helpful. The bunk house has everything you need, warm, clean rooms, plenty of showers and facilities including a drying room, a fully equipped kitchen and dining room with TV.The pub itself is perfect, plenty of room, a real fire and friendly locals that love to chat. We like our real ales and were not disappointed. A good selection and well kept.The food is fantastic. A full fry up is perfect before a long trek, or simply toast if you plan to eat later. The menu has a great selection of home cooked meals ranging from steak or lamb shank to curry, chilli or burger and there's a good choice of vegan meals. We didn't manage a pudding, but they looked lovely.Huge thanks to Su, Owen, Linda and all the staff for a wonderful time. See you again soon.

Went as a large walking group at lunchtime, didnt have to book in advance but we did notify them a week before. Good choice of food for hungry walkers at resonable prices. Friendly staff, all the meals served together, nice nd hot. Open fire , plenty of space

Good all round pub food ok staff ok nice .Two steps going into the bar area but staff will open a side door to let you in a bit tight but doabile once inside plenty of room to move about .toilet abit tight .Again nice helpfull staff Linda a great help .would go again .

In every village is a lovely pub, this is it. Fabulous warm fire, with great food and very friendly and helpful staff. This pub does not disappoint on every level. A fabulous evening spent, fabulous atmosphere. I will certainly be back.

Unfortunately there was limited accessibility for a wheelchair user This is no critism of the management but as there is an increase in Disabilty in Wales It may be something for them to consider for the future so that people with disabilities will be able to enjoy the facilities this lovely pub in Talbont on Usk has to offer

Bit of a local for me even though I live 40 miles away. I enjoy the food nothing fancy just nice food. Great bar selection to chose from, staff are friendly and dry humoured which is great.

This pub is EXACTLY what you need after a day walking in the Brecons.

Myself and my walking group met at the White Hart to begin our walk. We asked to use the toilet and were told we could by one member, however we were then told as we entered the toilet that we should not be using it and to put money into a box for the use of it. My 77 year old grandmother was then told she could not use the toilet, so she has had to go outside which was undignified and mortifying for her.

My family and I spent the afternoon having a few drinks at the whitehart and so being over the drink driving limit we left our vehicle in the almost empty carpark. The next day we took a walk, picked some sweets up from the car for our nephew with the intention of going back for drinks and collecting our car. Astonishingly the chef had decided to block the our car. I went in to explain that we had left the car after drinking the day before and was greeted by a very sour faced and hostile barmaid and then confronted by the chef who said he'd refused to move his car unless I apologised.

A nice walk along the adjacent canal from Pencelli to Talybont is well worth doing. We landed in the White Hart. Really classic style pub, open fires, excellent beer and ale selection and as friendly as you like. Definitely worth a visit.

Visited on a damp, windy evening and provided just the sanctuary I was looking for. Nice smouldering coal fire, sweet (and very wet!) pub cat and, crucially, Rhymney beers - I particular liked the Bevan's. Good service from the young barman. Well arrived here to have a meal on this hot bank holiday weekend and as it was so hot we thought we would sit out side in the sun,all the tables infront of house were in the shade and not too appealing but our tables were in the bright hot sun just opposite,I love the sun but my wife needs an umbrella as she has had a skin cancer removed from her nose so likes to stay under the umbrella so common sense get an umbrella from another table well seemed obvious,but as my wife was getting one a rude skinny Scottish waitress told her she was not allowed to move the umbrella,even though my wife tried to explain about her skin so we did the correct thing with people like this and took our money elsewhere.

Having eaten here twice in the last week I was looking forward to my favourite meal of bangers & mash.

Myself and 4 friends had Sunday lunch here on the 4th Aug and if we hadn’t of just finished a 10 mile walk and was glad of the food my review rating would have been lower.

Stopped here for lunch on a Monday and were surprised just how busy it was. Once we got our food the reason was obvious, the food was great. On the menu was a 5 ounce rump steak which we chose as a "smaller" meal whilst not perhaps expecting too much for less than ten pounds. Whilst the steak was not large, as expected, it was amazing, medium cooked as requested and full of flavour with good accompaniments. The next two pints were equally rejected for the same reason, at which I watched a member of staff criticise the bar maid for the MANNER in which she had pulled the pints - very uncomfortable to watch - and it was done publicly (see similar issues in reviews).

Called here for lunch on Sunday 21st July 2019. Party of four adults.Arrived at 2.30pm and were given a table straight away. Orders for drink and food are taken at the bar by a very pleasant and friendly barmaid. Sunday roasts were not available as due to demand they had run out so we chose 2x10oz Sirloin, Breaded Plaice and a Scampi meal. Despite the restaurant being quite busy we did not wait overly long for the food to be brought to our table. It was excellent with no complaints at all.We followed up with 4 deserts. As it was a warm sunny day we took a drink to the outside seating area which is quite large. The pub has a small car park and sits alongside the local canal with its narrow boats. Our restaurant order was 4xmain,4xdesert,2 bottles of exellent white wine,3 pints larger,1 soft drink and 1 coffee total bill a very reasonable £120.

Klimatyczna i tradycyjna restauracja.Oczekiwanie na jedzenia zajmuje ogladanie wnętrza i dostępne dla gości gry. Nikt się nie nudził. Jedliśmy udko jagnięce w ciemnym sosie na placuszku z pure i jarzyny, hamburgera a dzieci kotleciki z kurczaka z pysznymi frytkami i groszkiem . Danie to ok 17 funtów, piwo 4.

A great pub/restaurant/B&B; on bank of the river/canal. Popular for good reason - excellent food. We stopped off for lunch and had scampi/chips and lamb chops/chips. Good size portions, well presented and excellent flavour. Friendly staff and great selection of beer made it a perfect lunch. Highly recommended.
