The White Bear in Hillingdon

I have been to this pub a few times. It's lovely inside, and the food is okay, although it used to be better, to be honest. However, I'm not here to review the food. In the 25 years that I have lived in the UK, I have never felt more uncomfortable. I felt a little bit out of place, as if you are not welcomed unless you are English and white. I visited the pub about a month ago when they were hosting a very loud birthday party. Not once were they told or approached by a staff member about the noise. However, when it was our group, I felt constantly picked on. One lady even shoved a door shut on my husband 😂 I bear no hard feelings, as I know that racism exists, and I'm a resilient person who can take it. By the way, our friends felt the same way, so I know I didn't imagine it. I will not be returning to the pub.

The place looks good and the food’s alright, but the welcome mat feels missing unless you’re English and white. When I tried to order a drink, the lady shouted, “WHAT would you like to DRINK?” and mimed drinking from a glass. Felt like she thought I couldn’t understand English. Plus, I got a door slammed on me for extra flair! 😂 Our friends noticed the weird vibes too, so it’s not just me. Definitely not going back.

It didn't have my favourite drink. Or my second choice. The staff were nice though . Nice place for a meal. Although we didn't eat. Just a few drinks before a party.

Food was ok and fast.very busy pub

Macey was an absolute delight. Warm, welcoming and friendly, a treasure to your business- what more could you ask for? The food was also 10/10 and very impressive quality and presentation. We will definitely be returning.

We chose to eat at the White Bear on a whim simply because we were visiting the area & it served food later than some other establishments. However, we will definitely go out of our way to eat there again. Our meals included a starter, 3 adult meals, 2 children's meals & 3 deserts, all of which were of outstanding quality. It is difficult to appeal to all tastes & to consistently produce high quality food, yet all of us expressed that our meals were amongst the best we had ever had. The chef(s) certainly knows their trade & how to create dishes that are full of flavour. Additionally, it was greatly appreciated that there were varied vegan options that were the unique to the White Bear. The service was also excellent, attentive, friendly & faultless. We left feeling sublimely happy & we are looking forward to our next visit. As an aside, on our way in we had walked from the car park through the outside seating area. It looked beautiful in the dark with the way the string lights & plants had been arranged to create a peaceful space. It looked like it would be a wonderful place to sit & relax on a warm evening

Great Sunday lunch food was great and the service was very good Aliza was so friendly and helpful ,.even the dog got great service . Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

Very nice meal and very friendly staff

Paddy the shift manager on the evening of Friday 8th March went above and beyond expectations when resolving an issue with a piece of hard plastic found in a pie. He was helpful and resolved the situation in a professional and competent manner. So nice to get good service in this day and age. Hope this recognition will be passed on to him. Thanks.

Love this pub. Strong menu, food is fabulous, service exceptional. We went for early Mothers Day lunch and were looked after brilliantly. Food was so good! Dessert menu needs a panacotta to keep Mum happy (please).

What an absolute delight this restaurant is! We visited for Sunday Lunch and were not disappointed at all. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable and extremely professional. The food quality is amazing and the roast beef is to die for. We all had it and was left wanting to eating it again. Not because the portions were small but because it was sooooo good! Drinks wre great too! Alough a little pricey I would definitely visit again and recommend this for anyone to try.

Good car park. Very polite staff. Informative. Great food. Very tasty. Good menu choice. Set out of menu was easy to distinguish between meat, fish and vegetarian. Drink choice was good too.

We visited for Sunday lunch and had a great experience from start to finish. Warm reception, lovely atmosphere, excellent service & waiting staff extremely personable. Food was lovely & the Pistachio Soufflé was one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. We will definitely visit again .

We sadly lost my sister in law and had to arrange a celebration of her life. The White Bear did us proud. Super professional and friendly service, fantastic food and a warm and friendly space for over 30 of us to be in. There was a fire too and every extra request was responded to with a smile. Special thanks to Sophie, Patrick and Chris.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch with family to celebrate my husband's birthday. Food and service was excellent. Staff very efficient and helpful even though it was very busy.

I cannot fault anything about The White Bear, great atmosphere, was very busy. Wonderful, friendly and attentive staff. The roast comes with unlimited potatoes, veg and gravy. Huge yorkshire pud. The beef, tender, pink and plentiful. The Argentian Malbec by the carafe was the perfect size for 2 for lunch. Will be back very soon. Thanks for such a positive experience.

Great little gastropub in Ruislip. Food is decent and there is a good variety for all taste buds from standard fish and chips, steak and burgers to duck and sea bass. Service was excellent with staff always attentive but never interfering. Would definitely return if in the area again.

We met at the White Bear again today - a Reunion of 22 friends. We had a lovely time. The staff at the White Bear were attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and we had a great time. Thank you to everyone for making this trip so enjoyable.

This was my third trip to the White Bear, and we really enjoyed the food and the good service. Excellent value for money and I will be booking again soon .

My family visited the restaurant for lunch. We took our toddler grandson who was greeted with colouring pencils and paper which kept him amused. The food was delicious and the staff were extremely pleasant The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere . Will definitely go again

This is the quintessential country pub feeling, in the middle of Ruislip. The variety of the menu was mouthwatering, and I can tell you the actual food was even better. The staff was incredible, the atmosphere was cozy, and I think the excellent starts at the top. Rory, has such a passion for his craft, and it shows through with the attention to every detail for your dining experience. Book a table, go, enjoy yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Excellent service, quality food and the most welcoming restaurant I have ever been too. The staff at the white bear are very professional, but have the most friendly manner.

Experience good pub food but can be a tad expensive

The food was just sublime, the service attentive and quick. Atmosphere was lively, a little too loud for my liking and proximity to others made it difficult to talk at normal conversation level. Would definitely go back as the food was amazing, compliments to the chefs and service staff.

Went for a drink, great atmosphere, food menu looked good.

We booked an afternoon table. We had lunch and we paid for it. They then brought the dessert menu so we ordered pudding and tea. As soon as our pudding came they told us we had 15 minutes left as our table was booked and the new customers have started arriving. This was slightly upsetting as they had just brought out the dessert but we went with the flow and we left within 15 minutes. On the way home we realised we had left one of the mobiles at the restaurant so we went back for it around half an hour later to pickup the phone only to find that our table is still empty. They lied to us to get us out whilst we were having a nice afternoon.

Met friends for lunch and chose the White Bear as previous visits had been very good. Yesterday was the best yet. Every dish we ordered was lovely but I must single out the trout. Perfectly cooked with a sublime sauce. Great staff and a relaxing pleasant atmosphere.

So we went for my husbands birthday lunch on 20th Jan and I’ve got to say we were blown away by the quality of the Fish Soup… this is the best version I’ve had in forever. Also the dips that come with the bread are lush… I’d buy them if I could!!! And the staff are wonderful.. sooooo good. Need to make an effort to eat here more often!!

Ordered the roast beef which was OK however lacked gravy and we were never asked if we'd like mustard or horse radish. Once we'd finished our mains we enquired about dessert and were told that the menu was at the bar. Upon arrival we were informed that the table was needed back in 2 hours. Found some of the service pretty rude.

Came here to meet with friends during the Christmas break. Atmosphere was good although it seemed as though more tables had been crammed in since last time. We had to move our table back as we were literally sitting on top of someone else :( Waitress very pleasant and helpful. The food arrived and I was so disappointed! I opted for the baked harissa aubergine and was served half an aubergine with four small cubes of butternut - for £14.95. Someone is having a laugh. However, it was very tasty but would have been better served as a starter. Didn't go hungry though as I stopped at M & S on the way home and bought a sandwich.

Great pub with great food. I had the halloumi burger and the Apple and Gooseberry crumble for dessert and both were lovely. I'd go back to try other menu items. The staff were very friendly and the environment feels warm and welcoming.

We had a superb meal just before Christmas. Highly recommend the slow cooked beef and pork ribeye. Service was exceptional and nothing too much trouble. We are local but never been here before. Definitely now on our regular list.

One of the driest burgers I have ever had. And yes they did come up at least 8 times 🤷🏼 to ask how things were. I had been invited by a friend and didnt want to offend them. So my fault for not saying anything🤦🏼‍♀️And it was)is two weeks before Christmas so!!!

Lovely place, but food very average for the price. Had steak pie with mash. Pie had a lot of gravey, little filling and know base. Mash was nice but very small portion, and meal should have come with seasonal veg and didn't come with any vegetable. Service was pleasant, waitress was very nice.

It's quite a nice and cosy place. Great atmosphere. My cousins who came from the middle east on holiday said this pub was exactly what they had in mind when they imagine postcards from UK. Great place.

I’ve driven past this pub a few times and my partner and I decided to go in on a whim and have a bite to eat this evening. The staff were so lovely as soon as we entered. Rachel gave such an excellent customer service as well as the rest of her team. The food was lovely and well portioned, even with us sharing between each other. Plenty of options as well and some Christmas options available already too! The atmosphere was very good also! We are glad we went in this evening and we definitely will be back. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Visited with my family for my birthday and had a very tasty meal with excellent service. We have been here a number of times now both on a Sunday and the evening and always good service & atmosphere as well as decent range of meals, we will return

Rory is fabulous- always cheerful & good natured- his Irish co-partner however isn't which is a shame & reflects badly on The White Bear.

It was a cosy, welcoming pub. I had the burger which was ok but couldn’t taste the Gorgonzola I had asked for as extra. Chips I had to send back as cold. My friend loved the aubergine main and the wine we shared was fine too. If I visited the area again woukd give it another go.

Went for a Sunday Roast. Food was excellent,meat was cooked to perfection & roast potatoes were fantastic! Staff were very friendly & attentive. Nice atmosphere, venue was very busy. Food was reasonably priced. Would definitely go back.

Four of us had a midweek dinner. The atmosphere and staff were welcoming . The food and service were excellent we had a range of different menu items and everyone was happy with their choice. Stayed for 3 hours and thought the bill whilst quite high was excellent value. We all agreed to come again.

Very good food and wine. Better than some other restaurants I've visited. They didn't object to cooking my steak as I liked it, which was well done, unlike a well known French bistro chain who like to 'recommend' medium. This might be OK for the majority of diners, but it doesn't suit me, so it was refreshing to find an establishment who went out of their way to cook steak as the customer likes it. An excellent meal served by friendly staff. Thank you.

Eaten there with the family on many occasions and its always excellent, never ceases to impress....and there are some difficult customers in my family!

Fantastic food and the best staff.

Fantastic meal at The White Bear. Eaten several times over the years but the food was up a level last night. Whether new chef or improved dishes. We all said how delicious food was. I had the sea bream dish which superb. My friend had whole place and she said was so delicious, the best she'd had which considering just back from Majorca, eating fresh fish, that's a huge compliment. Lastly must praise the staff who were all so good but particularly Surajit Gosht. What a lovely, friendly, helpful waiter. So rare these days. We asked about the Raymond Blanc chain and he was very knowledgeable and said the meat and fish was from same source as the Royal household! No wonder it was excellent. Oh, and one of my friends had the Beef Rib (I'd almost ordered) and she said was amazing. Well done White Bear! 👏👏👏

We had a large party (12 guests). We all really enjoyed the food and the service was really excellent.

This is “the” best Sunday roast in the area! Ok, I suspect sous vide has had a hand in cooking the meat but the consistency of the roast beef is astounding. Tasty, not a hint of gristle every bite succulent. Only minus is the cabbage is always undercooked, but not inedible. Bottomless roast potatoes, what’s not to like? Good value as well, £20, sure not the cheapest in the area but I’d rather eat the food than leave fat and gristle on the plate. Highly recommended.

Took our orders wrong, then when the food came out the kid’s meal was atrocious - dry and without any real veg, which certainly wasn’t steamed. Food really expensive for what it is - paid nearly £20 for half a bowl of salad Have eaten here before and it was lovely, had gone massively downhill, such a shame

Good food, good prices, great staff

Superb roast beef lunch on Sunday. The food was cooked just as it should be (meat and vegetables), the Yorkshire puddings and gravy were very good. The service was professional and very friendly from everyone who served us, to the extent that as we were an odd number of people they found someone to even up the numbers. Best Sunday roast at a pub for a number of years!

We highly recommend The White Bear in Ruislip. Our son was over from the USA. The food and the atmosphere was great The staff were excellent, and made us feel very welcome. My husband is such a fussy eater, he really enjoyed his meal. Thank you and Well done. The Walkers.

Went in for lunch and the staff really looked after us. The staff take pride in their service and are very knowledgeable about the food they serve. Witnessed the staff take care of two elderly customers with massive amount of attention and respect. the white bear should be proud of their staff and food. Burgers are great and we will be back for our 5th visit soon =).
