Visited this pub for Sunday lunch on our way to see Battle Abbey. The roast dinner was truly excellent. Everything was really hot. We enjoyed the starters - the home made cauliflower and stilton soup was delicious. We were too full to try dessert. Service was excellent too.

We visited this charming pub one Sunday afternoon and were greeted by extremely polite staff . The food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff , two roaring fires and comfortable seating making it one of my favourite pubs so definitely worth a drive out to.

Originally I gave this lovely old pub an excellent review, my partner and myself went there about 3 weeks ago expecting a really good meal. My partner had eggs royal on a muffin, it was inedible as the muffin was hard and stale, the hollandaise sauce was horrible and indescribable. My Chicken Satay skewers we’re not up to par, the chicken was over cooked and hard and the peanut sauce was bland and tasteless. We like our food but we couldn’t eat this food served. So disappointing as previously we had a good meal. We found out the original staff had left and these were new people running it with a new chef. We only got billed for 1 starter and 2 drinks after complaining. Based on our recent experience we cannot recommend this place as you would be disappointed unless they change their standards. I must admit we wondered why the car park was near on empty at lunch time and we found out!

Visited here on our walk from Woods Corner. A delightful pub set in the quiet village of Burwash we were warmly greeted. Staff were very friendly. Food was excellent. We only wanted a snack so had the bbq chicken wings and a portion of cheese and bacon loaded fries. Both were excellent. Definitely recommend and we hope to return soon.

Such a good Sunday roast dinner, no skimping on the meat portions like some are guilty of, real fires going, staff were super friendly and helpful, attentive but not overly, we will be back.

We are in the process of buying a house nearby and took my parents here this evening. Very enjoyable, good food and very friendly staff. Roaring log fires and good music! Will certainly be back.

We just had to trial the new autumn menu, and we were not dissappinted. The short beef rib was amazing, tasty, and the meat fell off the bone. The truffle mash added an extra lift to the dish. Just superb! ... and the creme brulee 👍. Come and try for yourself. 😋

Superb Sunday Roast! We visited The Wheel for the first time yesterday, and absolutely loved it. The Sunday roast was possibly the best we have ever had, with roast beef and pork belly cooked to perfection and the vegetables delicious. The wine was also excellent (Rioja in our case). The choice of blues music was unusual, but actually worked really well in the charming dining room with log fires burning. It was a cold, dark and wet day, but our visit more than made up for that. We'll be back!

Sunday Lunch at the Wheel. Fire going and amazing Sunday Lunch served swiftly and pleasantly by the staff. Good, excellent. Actually best Sunday Lunch for many years. Scared to rate it too highly in case it gets so busy I can’t book it again 😊

After a day in historic property and gardens, we needed some good food and real ale served with a warm welcome greeting. Thank you for meeting our needs 😊

Fairly basic pub, with definite lack of character. Food was adequate, but green tomatoes in a salad?

Popped in for a light lunch and wasn't disappointed. Great music, very friendly and quick service, but this was expected as it was mid week and quiet. Food was of good quality and very tasty. I chose the sticky toffee pudding after all the rave reviews and they were not wrong. So light and fluffy with just the right amount of sauce, best I've ever had.

We have been here a few times and the food is always really good. We went to their special fish night, and just wow! Superb gourmet food that you wouldn't have exoected at a local pub. It's a little more expensive than the usual menu, but it's well worth it.

We were welcomed warmly by staff, and they served all our requests pleasantly. We had a excellent meal 16 September 2023. My husband had Thai infused King Prawns, served with a satay sauce, followed by Lobster. I choose Salted Cod Fritters followed by Halibut, served with artichoke, mushrooms, turnip and mushroom consume. Other family members had Scallops, Lobster Crumpets followed by Salmon en Papillote, and White Miso Charred Cod. We shared, side dishes Dauphinoise, Fries, Salad and Chilli Butter Seared Broccoli. We could not eat all that we ordered. Food was fresh and very tasty. Great chef. We could not find fault with the service or meal. We will be back.

Took my father for Sunday Lunch. Friendly Staff, good value and excellent food. Beautiful yorkshires and the lightest sticky toffee pud I’ve ever tasted. Great to see all the local pictures on the wall, my dad has lived in Burwash all his life, and his mum knew Kipling, this is a lovely touch. My dad is already planning his next visit! Thank you, we’ll be back.

Had the Sunday roast here on 13th August. Roast pork and gammon mix. Absolutely bloody amazing. Best roast ever, ever, ever had in a pub and good value too. Huge portion so the dogs are getting lucky later with the doggy bags. The staff were lovely, so attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The chef came out to say hello so we were able to thank him personally for his superb dinner. Will deffo be going back to The Wheel and feel very lucky to have found this little gem just a 5 minute drive away.

Oh my goodness! The best Sunday roast ever! Massive portion of extremely high quality food. Fabulous bar staff and service. We will most definitely be back!

We had a very enjoyable couple of evenings during our stay near by. Very friendly and the food was excellent. Our dog was also very well looked after!!!

I popped in here one Friday lunchtime. I just wanted a light bite and drink in my lunch hour. I don't come up this way much but will do now. They had a function on but the young lady behind the bar was very accommodating and quick as a flash made me a bowl of Fabulosa chunky chips, served very promptly and with a smile. I have been here before, years ago for a birthday function and that was brilliant. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone.

We stopped here for my birthday on the way to Eastbourne. As we entered the, we were amazed by the cleanliness of the establishment and friendliness of the staff. We had a wonderful lunch outside and the girl who served us was very welcoming. Many thanks to the chef as well for cooking us a great meal. I highly recommend this place for a quiet and quaint meal out.

Very welcoming, dog friendly good honest food, a lovely mug of tea after our 3 hour walk for£1 !We were able to leave our car safely parked after we had lunch, delicious ciabatta rolls which were well filled! All so friendly and even had biscuit treats for the dog! Loved it all.

We had a great meal at The Wheel last night, a new reduced menu expertly cooked and served with care and charm, we had the pie which was a proper pie with a base, full of meat, great flakey pastry served with mash or chips , veg and a jug of lovely gravy, all great, highly recommended, we will return.

Had just the most wonderful evening there last night (13th May 2023) watching the brilliant 21 Whiskeys An incredibly warm welcome from Tyne started the evening, it just got even better from then on it. A lovely pub, laid out well with a decent sized bar and lots of staff, a really friendly crowd, terrific food and excellent service A proper 10/10 from me, it’s just a shame we don’t live closer or this would be an absolute regular!

Amazing food and amazing staff! We were welcomed with the lovely Nikki. She was very attentive with great humour, we felt very looked after. The food was portioned well and left us feeling stuffed! We only had mains and pudding and felt satisfied after! We will definitely be back .

Nice ambience with the open fire in winter. We've been a couple of times and I enjoyed the burger and cod goujon sandwich.

What a lovely place. It's nicely understated, with good service, good food at a reasonable price. As well as the main menu, there is also a specials board to choose your meal from.

The new (ish) owners have turned this pub around and are serving delicious food - which is a bonus for us as it is our local. The Roast Beef was splendid with just the right amount of beef, roast potatoes & a large Yorkshire pudding....

Celebrated a birthday at The Wheel tonight after hearing great things about the food. It certainly didn't disappoint. Generous portion of liver & bacon with mash and veg just melted in your mouth. Steak & ale pie with chunky chips was enjoyed by the men of the group. The manageress was happy to allow us to bring a birthday cake and eat on the premises. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. Pub has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and our little puppy was made to feel welcome and given a treat.

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Large portions and delicious roast beef with a good selection of vegetables, all cooked perfectly. Lovely pub with a roaring log fire. Perfect escape on a rainy lunchtime!

Mum, Dad and three hungry girls.... the Wheel didn’t disappoint. 3 fish n’ chips and 2 burgers. All fresh, and all bloom in’ tasty! The batter was not soggy whatsoever. Even the onion rings were crispy. Well done to the chef. He clearly has a passion for cooking, which was displayed in what we had. The staff were extremely attentive too. Lovely girls with lovely smiles.... and they were very friendly with our kids. Thank you, ‘The Wheel’. We will return soon.

We called in to this pub (booked first) after visiting Sarah Raven’s garden at Perch Hill. I have found some pubs rather scary, barking orders at you about how to behave it’s as if they don’t want you. Not so this lovely pub, a very warm welcome on our arrival and they had all the COVID safe measures in place btw. We sat in the garden and had the most delicious chicken Caesar salad and bread. I can thoroughly recommend this pub, thank you to the team.

First day opening since the lockdown and we had a fabulous meal. Fantastic quality steaks (1 guest a retired butcher) as well as fab service from Rosie and Kayleigh. Pub well planned out for social distancing and lots of sanitising being done. Highly recommended.....try the rib eye steak, it was like butter melting in your mouth!

It’s great that the pub are offering take-away service now that they have to be shut. Everyone locally will want to support it. We had a big take-away last night and the food was delicious, and extremely reasonable prices too.I hope they can carry on with this, as we all want the pub to reopen when things calm down!

Moved house and popped out for Sunday lunch, wouldn’t normally choose a carvery but this was a game changer. Superb choice of four meats, the beef was sublime. Great range of vegetables, crispy roasties and fluffy Yorkshire’s. Highly recommend, we will be back.

We don't very often get to see our grandchildren due to traveling and decided to go for an early Christmas here. we came when the Sunday carvery was on and the food was delicious, all for an amazing price! To top it off the service was amazing, all staff were really kind.

Recent family meal, menu limited with no vegetarian options. Food ok, definitely average. Not a lot else to say really! Staff friendly. Won’t be hurrying back. Car park needs some lights! One of my group fell over in the dark.

We live locally to the Wheel and were happy to see it reopen, it’s warm and friendly, with a great children’s play area.Having been a few times now, and always enjoyed good food, and now great pizzas, as well as one of the best roasts around, in terms of standards and value we were keen to try the carvery. We were not disappointed. Good choices and good sized portions made for a delicious Sunday lunch. Puddings were delicious. We will be back.I just hope this pub gets the local support it deserves. We’ve found there are few really good pubs around that offer fresh, home cooked foods and this is one of them, and it’s sister pub The White Hart. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed.

We recently visited the wheel for a Sunday carvery. In all honesty we won’t be returning any time soon. We had a booking for 12 noon and when we arrived the pub was not yet open. When they did open their doors, we were shown to our table and despite booking for 4 adults and 2 children (with high chairs for both specifically requested), there were no high chairs to be seen. When they were brought through, one of the high chairs had broken straps so not secure for younger babies at all. We asked for a wine list, to be told that there wasn’t one! We then had to wait about 20 minutes for the carvery to be ready as it wasn’t finished cooking. When it was finally ready, we were dished up with the tiniest portion of cold roast meat possible and before my husband could ask for some more, the chef walked off. Some of the veggies weren’t put out before we ate so parsnips appeared when we were virtually finished and the cauliflower cheese was burnt. Other diners were subsequently served much larger portions of meat, although as we saw the chef eating the meat between serving customers, perhaps this is why the portions were smaller. We were then finally able to order desert and to be honest I wish we hadn’t. After a 30 minute wait, they still hadn’t arrived so we enquired as to where they were and within minutes they appeared. Well, the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate brownie were cold, you could tell they had been warmed as they were ever so slightly tepid in the middle. The custard with the crumble was also tepid. We did mention this to the lady serving and she told us that the brownie was meant to be cold and the sticky toffee pudding would be warmed up for us. Clearly not true for the brownie otherwise why was it tepid in the middle as if it had been warmed then forgotten about and left to go cold. The cheese plate was also straight out of the fridge. Cheese needs a good half an hour to warm before serving and should never be served straight from the fridge. Given the time taken to bring our deserts, there was plenty of time to acclimatise the cheese.

Amazing friendly staff and lovely restaurant/pub. Stopped during our journey out today for a light bite. Ended up having a amazing very filling Sunday Carvery Lunch. Which was very very reasonably priced too.We hadn’t booked but staff made adjustments to fit us in for lunch. Good selection of meats and vegetables. Services from the ladies was great and the chef was very friendly and accommodating. Thanks for a lovely stop we will be returning soon.

Visited with my son for lunch on a weekday as a treat. My sons chips were raw and the fish overcooked. I would have mentioned this to the young girl but she was nowhere to be seen and did not appear for about 1/2 hour either to remedy the poor food situation or to take payment( we were the only ones in the pub, customers and staff it felt like the Marie Celeste. I was loath to post a poor review as this is my local and I want them to succeed, but after nothing being done after telling 2 people .... I wont return.

My wife and I took advantage of the steak night special offer and enjoyed two first class sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine for £35, we received a warm welcome and great service from Rosie and Amy, we have no hesitation in recommending this pub for great food and a friendly atmosphere.

Each time this pub changes hands we give it another go but the service never gets any better. There was no one at the bar when we walked in - it was 10 minutes before anyone appeared to serve even though there were diners already sitting waiting to order. There was one person working - serving food/taking orders, serving drinks at the bar, answering the phone and disappearing into the kitchen for long periods.

We were there as part of a large group (around 30) on a very quiet Tuesday evening. All had been pre-booked and we had choice from a limited menu. So far so good. Each person/couple ordered for themselves at the bar as they came into the pub, so names were taken. My husband wanted fish and chips and was told by the lady at the bar that fish and chips might be off as the fishman hadn't delivered. She checked with the kitchen and was told they had fish. Tewnty minutes later, she came to us and said there had been a miscommunication and there was no fish. Se we changed the order to steak and ale pie. I had the vegtarian moussaka. When our meals arrived the waitress would have given them to a couple who had arrived after us, and had ordered the same thing if they hadn't commented on the speed of service!

Will definitely be back for Sunday lunch with the family. Excellent value for money. Delicious food. Lovely pub.

Very disapointed in lunch today.Was going to book for a party of about 18 but not now.Manger did not seem very happy, i did eat most of my fish as i was hungary, i showed him the soggy batter he said he would speak to the chief but never came back to me,crumble very nice,but i would not bring my friends here.Sorry The Wheel
