Blown away by the quality of food in this unassuming pub. Menu was brilliant with lots of chioces and service was very attentive.

Cycled here many times for lunch. Decided to take my partner for Valentine's night. WOW! The food was absolutely first class, better than quite a few high end restaurants we have tried! After a superb starter an amazing main, partner had the Salmon and I had the chicken off the a la carte menu. Decided to have a go at the shared desert as it was Valentine's night! Best decision of the night, Awesome is all I can say. As a Guinness drinker, never tasted a better pint! Added to this, the service we received from two waitresses was first class! Only left a ten pound tip, wish I could of afforded more. Thanks to all at the Wheatsheaf. Ten out of Ten, will spread the word but don't think you need it, thanks for a lovely evening.

I had forgotten how much I love having lunch here. The sun was streaming in through the windows, the restaurant was full on a Monday afternoon (testament in itself) food was amazing, service was very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you

This is the first time we have visited. Having decided to stop off spontaneously. In a great location, always visibly busy, and because of word of mouth reviews from friends this has been on our list for some time. Venue: Set in an idyllic village, this fits the bill for country pub. Cosy and traditional, while clean and tidy. Ales on tap and delicious food to be had. Sporting up to date, fresh decor while retaining all the furnishings. One end set aside for food, the other for drinks. With outdoor seating available. Car parking available to the front side of the property. Food: The food exceeded expectations. Although a more compact menu, there were sections with a little bit of everything for everyone. From staples such as pie and chips to burgers to vegetarian risotto. There was a specials board and the traditional Sunday roast options available. The wait for the food (from being made) was not noticeable, the meal arrived piping hot and was fresh and tasty. Great food, kitchen staff clearly a credit. Service: The disappointment from the lack of acknowledgement upon entering, and not being offered a choice table (despite availability - for the duration of our extended visit), only grew and turned into frustration; being over-looked while the family who entered with us was waited upon for orders and food, along with the couple after us, both of whom were served food. While we sat with drinks and menus... we ended up going to the bar despite table service. Shortly after the food arrived, we did get checked in on to make sure the food was alright, which it was. And that was our last contact. Despite the other tables having dishes removed and being offered dessert and making payments. We sat. No more drinks, no offers of dessert or even payment. We eventually went to the bar to pay. For perspective. We were there for 2 hours. And the wait for food was 20 minutes at most..... The restaurant was not at half capacity and there were 3 front of house staff. Cost: Reasonably priced, good quality. A couple of non-alcoholic drinks and mains for just over £30. Would be great for any time, family or couples. Overall: The highlight was definitely the meal, tasty and hearty. If you are willing to wait. The best service was the self service. Tips: Limited close parking available! Great for a pint in warmer weather?

Amazing lunch experience, all food was home cooked including the chips which is a rare find these days and The pies were unreal. Staff very friendly and attentive, will definitely be returning.

Lovely Sunday roast. The prices have gone up quite alot here so unfortunately we wont be visiting as regularly. The service is pretty average in general. It's a nice cosy pub to visit this time of year.

Great couple of visits. Clean, staff friendly, great Value. Pies are proper pies. You won't leave hungry.

Food was delicious. Staff where attentive, without be over the top. Friendly and efficient. We have been several times, recently. Highly recommend.

An excellent little local pub, the best in Croston in my opinion. The toilets aren't up there though but serve a purpose. Only a couple of ciders, both Strongbow, which is disappointing but still nice to nip in and knock the top off one

The food was good as you can see. I did ask for a change with mine due to an allergy this was not listened too and was even told that it was fine! When it was given without items that i am allergic too, it was lovely I had a sandwich. The place was packed and the staff were run off their feet but when they came to the table they were lovely. It was a little chilly so many kept their coats on. I would return again but in the summer

My first visit to the Wheatsheaf for many, many years for a Sunday mid afternoon roast lunch. Bit of a mix up with the menus as no mention from the server of roasts and we ordered off the menu that we had been given thinking we were getting what looked like roasts. However the beef we received in a massive bowl was delicious, so no complaints there. It is a lovely local old village pub at the centre of the community. On a slightly different tack, it was Croston Xmas Fair Day and the roads were absolute chaos as access at both ends of the village had been blocked off. We drove in from Rufford direction to be met with a road block on the T junction, so turned left looking to park. This road was gridlocked, parking on both sides and traffic FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS navigating a road that was only wide enough for one vehicle in both directions. Not a single PLOD in sight and why nobody could work this chaos out in advance is beyond me. The road should have been made one way from the village centre for a day. We had to head towards Leyland Garden Centre, enter Croston from that end and before the road block at that end of the village find a parking space in a school.

We have dined here before and really enjoyed our meal. However this time it really did disappoint us. The photo shows what was advertised as lamb burger, however the actual meat was more than poor and totally tasteless. To disguise the taste of the burger this was served with heaps of dressing. Such a let down to the kitchen. We did report this but little was offered except a complimentary drink. A lack of customer service also on behalf on the duty manager.

We decided to return to this pub as our first experience on dining there two months ago was totally outstanding. However this evening we were greatly disappointed. One of our orders which we chose was a lamb burger.tThis consisted of a strange construction of tasteless meat which was served on a brioche bun accompanied by far too much sauce, which I now realize was to disguise the meat. I left half of this and reported it to a member of staff. She was apologetic and then offered a complimentary drink which I declined and asked for the bill. Very surprised to see that this meal was included in my bill alongside another main which we had plus a starter and two drinks. Not really the best way to treat customers on a very quiet Monday evening.

Lovely pub in croston village, food is great, portions are large and lovely pub overall, also has a very nice and charming beer garden.

Called in for an impromptu tea with my grandson, ordered 2 chicken, ham and black pudding pies they came to the table piping hot and were delicious (and massive!) Will definately be returning! The staff were lovely and very attentive, thank you.!

Tucked away in the lovely village of Croston the Wheatsheah was well worth the drive. Menu, service and excellent food on a lovely summers day in the beer garden, what more could you want ?? Will be back soon.

Lovely Pub in the heart of the picturesque village of Croston. The meals were well priced. I had the burger and fries, which was a well proportioned, very tasty meal. Great setting, with good parking, and delightful outdoor seating area.

Lovely place with good food. Stopped here as we were in the area and had great food. We were at the end of service so it was a bit quieter, but the landlord was friendly and very accommodating. Definitely recommend.

Our first visit in a while. The food was absolutely delicious! Alas the service was atrocious. We left after waiting 20 minutes for the desert menu. We felt we were invisible. Won’t be rushing back. Such a shame!

We came here last night completely on a whim as we were in the area and were looking for somewhere to eat and decided to give The Wheatsheaf a try. I'm so glad we did, the food was just divine. I had a home made cheese and onion pie and my husband had the steak and ale pie and both were absolutely delicious and came with the best gravy we have ever tasted. One of the best meals I have ever had. The staff were nice too. We look forward to our next visit!!

Seriously good food. Can’t actually believe how good the food was to be honest. We just stopped for a light lunch, ordered too much food as always but it was amazing. Definitely will be coming back

Attended with a friend for lunch on a Wednesday. This was an unplanned drop in and found a ..lovely friendly pub,..4 conjoined rooms, all available to have lunch in ..Cosy and clean with some panelled walls and a up-to-date feel. Very comfortable..lovely bar area. Good light to the front tables. With large windows looking on to the external seating area of the Pub.. Views to the pretty village of Croston. Food ordered which was a wrap with beef..calslaw and salad, great sized portion... I had a Club sandwich..We would have been overfaced had we ordered chips...as stated they were good portion sizes..and very reasonably priced. Very friendly staff..polite and took our order from our table.. The waitress politely mentioned that the table top that we were about to sit in was a little sticky...and was due to be re-varnishhed, the waitress Politely recommended another table.. Very impressed and would highly recommend a visit.. truly a charming venue...thank you for a great lunch with a my friend.

I've been 2 week's running for food, the 1st week was really good, service and food brilliant. On Sunday not the same, service was disappointing and food just alright.

Fantastic food a sea food platter with seabass salt and pepper squid prawns and mussels with new potatoes and salad was to die for . Crisp chilli chicken according to my partner was spot on very hard to fault this excellent pub food

One of the few places around open on a Monday when my Dad wanted to take us out after a busy day. We all went for the homemade pies which are huge, delicious and filling - served with chips and proper mushy peas. A great place, delicious reasonable fresh food with superb staff...can't fault it.

Great pub, only slight down side not much parking. Big beer garden at front beautiful on a sunny day like when we went. Busy which says everything. Good menu plenty of choice, not expensive, fast service, nice attentive staff, ate inside but could have eaten outside such a nice day. Both of us had burgers, what a treat, just cooked fries superb burger ( probably the best I've ever had! ) all fresh and a bit of salad, and a lot to eat as well, don't live far away will definitely be back, Great!

Good range of cask ales and good food

We've eaten here a couple of times recently. First time: fish finger sandwiches with chips. Second time: we had fish and chips - good, filling portions - and the veggie burger. All really tasty pub food served by friendly, efficient staff. There's always a great buzz in the bar with a welcoming atmosphere. Well done to all the staff for continued great service and quality.

Food v good started with fish cake wrapped with bacon and a white sauce quite filling ,main course gammon and chips large gammon cooked to perfection ,girls serving pleasant & quick the only thing stopping the fifth star was table felt a bit tacky

Great food, a lively little pub.

Called in on our way home, really pleasant pub in the centre of the village. I had a sirloin steak baguette with crisps and salad and my daughter had a really good fish finger baguette. I enjoyed but did think some of the steak was a little tough but overall it was very tasty with the fried onions and a good size. My daughters fish was excellent,very white,crispy batter and a good size.

First time visiting a family party. Went well, lovely place. Only negatives were that there was not much seating in the party area, and the burger was undercooked. Bar area is difficult to get to, so I didn't buy a drink. Clean toilets, plenty of parking.

Sunday beef roast was exceptionally dispointing both meals sent back

It was Friday night and we hadn’t booked but a table was found for us during a very busy evening! The rump steak was excellent, the menu was great-I also like the chilli beef.

Came from Bolton today 27.11.22 with my hubby and 2 lads, They serve the best breakfast ever. Would love to try their other menu. The service atmosphere everything is 1st class. Would very highly recommend.

The food is superb. Service was efficient. One of the best pies in Lancashire and the Club Sandwich was out of this world. What an amazing find. Can't wait to go back.

Never visited before but decided to pop in for lunch. Very friendly staff, good beer and fantastic food. I had the steak & ale pie which was outstanding with chips, mushy peas and a jug of gravy! Strongly recommend.

Excellent food. Had their homemade pie which was delicious and wife had the pork belly which she said was amazing. Very friendly staff and they were very good with our baby and even bought him over an extra toy to entertain him. Super quick service and lovely atmosphere.

Great village pub with food and fantastic live music. Jon and staff make you feel very welcomed and nothing is too much trouble - not something you see very often these days ! Im not a local but will certainly be re visiting very soon. Keep up the great atmosphere and excellent live music and you have my vote. Shame not more places like this. Went here on Sunday, had a lovely welcome from the manager and the young staff where very attentive throughout our visit! Had a steak pie that was clearly homemade and delicious, and a turkey roast dinner that ticked every box, then for pudding a millionaire sundae 😍 and a fabulous cheese and biscuits with 4 different types of cheese, we left full and already planning when we would return! Keep up the good work, we will be back soon

I phoned up to book a table, told they don't accept bookings and just to walk in. Walked in, asked the bar staff what time they serve until and reply was 8.30pm. This was 4pm. Bought 2 drinks and went outside, waitress came over and...

Visited on a Monday and kitchen closed, which would be fine if they hadn’t taken our booking, seated us, gave us menus and made us our drinks which we then had to pay for before leaving to find somewhere that serves food. Last booking is apparently 2.15 (which we booked) but kitchen staff left before and menu states sandwiches served until 2.30.. No communication between kitchen and bar staff.

What a lovely surprise, the menu is small but wow was the food good. The home made pie was amazing, the fish was firm with light crispy batter and massive. My son had the children’s sausage and mash, eat it all and was a great portion size for a child’s meal . The burger was served on a fresh ciabatta roll with a good size salad and plenty fries . The staff were very friendly and welcoming despite us coming late when there were not many customers. My only critique is the burger patty was very thin and looked shop bought which was a different league to the meals but it was enjoyed all the same. Our trip to the Grapes after a huge hype/disappoint had put us off eating out again but this was a happy reassurance that Croston still has great pub food. We’ll done and thank you. Can’t wait to come back.

Remarkable locals, very sharp and very amiable. Especially the "Winchester " club. Lol
