The Westwood Restaurant in East Riding of Yorkshire

Visited with my partner and mother for lunch on a Saturday. Service, cocktails, and food were fantastic. I had the duck starter, shared the W steak for main,and a few sides - both delicious, well put together and generous portions. Dessert very good as well. I'm sure we'll be back!

Impeccable service and great atmosphere as always. I think I've ranged from 3 to 5 star reviews over the years and perhaps I'm now settled on a 4 minus. The food is immaculately presented but ultimately it is too rich and lacking flair. If it wasn't for the rest of the excellent experience I wouldn't recommend forking out for the Westwood as the centrepiece is a bit lacklustre for the Michelinesque price. Wonderful staff and venue

The food was wonderful, just as it was on our 2 previous visits. The quiet night was spoilt by a rather loud, noisy, raucous, swearing group of individuals, (men and women) who appeared to be regulars! There was no need for their behaviour, and the lady ‘in charge’ couldn’t have given two jots! Instead of having a quiet word with the group she chose to ignore their behaviour, actually making excuses for them. It beggars belief! We thought a fight was going to break out! You don’t get that sort of behaviour eating in a regular pub, I certainly don’t want it, or expect it here! Disgraceful. Will we go back? Probably not in the near future! Sort yourselves out. 10/10 to the Chef.

Beautiful Food & Service shame the clientele and management let this Well established resturant down.. Thursday evening Date night and all we hear is a loud roudy table which on my way back from the bathroom I'm told to F...Off for walking past the table unfortunately this has put me right off returning it's a Michelin star Resturant and I don't think that kind of behaviour or language is appropriate... I spoke to the manager on exit I expressed my concern she wasn't interested even though had numerous complaints about the table all evening from other guests... A special occasion spoilt 😔

This was the fifth time we have been to the Westwood restaurant and once again it exceeded expectations. The food was fantastic! We both had a borata with beetroot and hazelnut crisp to start which was creamy and tart and set the tome for the rest of the meal. We both went for a fish main course, me cod, my wife turbot. Both were perfectly cooked and substantial portions, served with the perfect accompaniments. Washed down with a bottle of Pansa Blanco which was a revelation. Finished it all off with beautiful deserts and a coffee. You can keep you twelve course taster menus or your deconstructed interpretations of classics. The Westwood delivers fine food in hearty portions in lovely surroundings. The Prix Fixe menu will get you three courses for two people sharing a bottle of wine for under £100 but will be the same quality as the Al a Carte……simply brilliant.

Another lovely evening, a couple of hiccups which were dealt with very professionally. Great atmosphere as always and waiting staff just as attentive ... Hats off to the head waitress who dealt with my issue without any fuss, don't like to raise things generally but on this occasion it was necessary. Food was delicious...

One of the best restaurants in the area by far. Always phenomenal food, service and atmosphere. The W bar upstairs serves excellent drinks before your meal. If you like your steak, you must try their signature bone-in prime rib steak marinade in bourbon, molasses and thyme as it is absolutely delicious!

Everyone who goes loves it, great food and service. Been a few times, if there is a group of you, use the private dining room. It’s special.

Outstanding value. Cured Ham, pork & pistachio terrine with pickles & bread was thoroughly enjoyed by friends. Cauliflower, Comte & bacon soup was absolutely delicious. Excellent quality of gluten free bread. Mains of poached & glazed chicken with Jerusalem artichoke & broccoli looked stunning & 😍 very much enjoyed. Prawn, fennel, edamame & dill risotto was beautiful 💕So good, forgot to take a picture!! Creamed spinach & crinkle cut chips - perfect. All beautifully salted. Such friendly, professional & comfortable service with extremely beautiful surroundings. Cotes du Rhone went down a treat, all 3 of us left extremely happy!Thank you 😊

Delayed Christmas lunch with my team today and wow amazing! Great food, fab service and lovely atmosphere. Will be going again as heard the sunday lunch is fab too

Myself and my husband ate here for the first time last night and it was absolutely lovely. We had a 6pm booking and opted to go straight to our table, there’s plenty of room between tables, which is great as you can’t hear anyone else’s conversation and neither can yours be heard. There’s a lovely ambiance and a gorgeous sitting area outside which will be a great place to sit during the warmer months. The menu isn’t extensive but what’s on there is excellent. We both chose the Wagyu steak with sides of tenderstem broccoli and Charlotte potatoes and it was all so delicious, the steak comes medium rare and was perfectly cooked. We finished with a cheeseboard with 3 beautiful cheeses, good portions with figs, grapes and a quince jelly with plenty of crackers. We also had a cocktail each and enjoyed a delicious French sauvingnon Blanc. The service was excellent, it wasn’t a cheap meal but it was worth every penny and this place is very likely to be our special occasion ‘go to’ restaurant.

Consistently amazing food, service and always great atmosphere. We go here often enough to state that it is probably our favourite overall restaurant, even though we have been coming for years, the food is always consistent in quality. The menu doesn’t change much but it doesn’t matter because it’s so well done. The fillet steaks and halibut are up there as my favourites and occasionally lobster if it’s available. The service is as always impressive and professional but friendly .

I have never had a food experience like this! Myself and my wife dined here as a treat to celebrate our marriage and my birthday. From the moment we arrived the standard of the restuarant staff was different class. We first headed up the stairs to the cocktail bar while we awaited to be shown to our table . When we arrived to our table our bottle of wine and bread for the table was waiting for us. We both had 3 courses and the flavours of each dish was amazing! 5/5 stars! Impeccable service and impeccable food!

Lovely food, excellent service, but a little expensive.

Westwood is located in a wing of the grand, old courthouse from the beginning of the 19th century, a 5-minute walk outside the North Bar gate to the medieval town centre, close to my hotel, from which I came on foot. In front of the main portico is a charming, Victorian pissoir, no doubt for the convenience of those nervous souls about to face the judge. You can't really see it at night, and daylight reveals that its entrance is blocked with rubbish. The restaurant wing is at the side of the main building with its own separate entrance beyond the car park, which had no lighting. The short walk from the street in pitch darkness could be extremely hazardous. Having just had foot surgery, I could easily have tripped and fallen--hopefully to be spotted on the ground in time by the headlights of the next car to arrive. I must admit that the food was very good, but the service aspect was deficient. I had ordered some bread (not cheap at £3.50) to have with a glass of wine while I waited in no hurry for the food to arrive. Four mini-baguettes and some farm-cultured butter were brought to me. But before I had the chance to enjoy just two mouthfuls, the starter course was dashed to the table, giving me the unwelcome feeling of being rushed. Also detracting from a relaxing evening was the ghastly music being piped through. This consisted largely of screeching women straining their voices--you simply do not need irritating vocals like this instead of quiet, background music. Again, I liked the food. The starter of whiskey & dark soy sauce smoked salmon was tasty, and my main course of pan-roasted loin of wild venison was excellent. But overall, I felt that, in comparison with the two other Michelin restaurants at which I dined in Beverley, Westwood did not quite deserve its Michelin commendation.

Superb! Nibbles followed by the best fillet steak I've had in years. Pity I was driving but the alcohol free G&T tasted like the real thing!

Our whole visit from start to finish was impeccable.The service was second to none and exemplary and the food was out of this world amazing. The decor and ambience is just so relaxing and comfortable. The attention to detail is something we haven’t experienced at any other restaurant in the area or even county. It maybe isn’t somewhere you would go on a weekly basis because it is such a wonderful experience that I wouldn’t want to spoil the “treat” it feels like to go there but it is definitely our “go to” place now for anytime we want to treat ourselves or celebrate. The staff were all so friendly and very very professional. We watched a young lady laying out the table next to us for another set of guests and the precision with which she lined up the place mats, napkins, cutlery and glasses blew us away. It’s so nice to see that the staff care. We couldn’t fault a thing and would recommend the Westwood to anyone wanting to be fed and treat like a king or queen. Yes, it’s more expensive that you would usually pay for a mid week meal, but you don’t mind that at all when you’re paying for such good quality food and the wonderful service and experience that we all had whilst there.

Everything OK. Thought it was always good value when they had a set menu during the week

On a first time visit to Beverley, a lovely vibrant town, we found this restaurant online. Great find. The ala carte menu looked tempting but so did the Luncheon table d'hote. 2 courses for approx £25. Delicious food, great relaxed service and a very comfortable restaurant. The food tasted and looked good. We will be back!

We have eaten on several occasions. Spry from the bar and restaurant being cold and my husband’s venison being lukewarm we would recommend.

This is probably one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The setting was lovely, the staff were attentive, the food was delicious and the cocktails tasted amazing. We are excited to come back again soon.

This restaurants quality is consistent - but so is the menu slightly disappointingly, the. Deserts have not changed for about a year. Our only other criticism was that there were no vegetables with some of the main courses and then were when we ordered broccoli found was already on some of the dishes so a bit of disappointing to be misled. Obviously with food prices, they have cut the cloth accordingly and just little things like butter with bread are missing now. Having said that the staff are lovely and the food quality excellent it has not put us off going again..

Went to the Westwood Restaurant for my birthday lunch. The food was excellent and delicious. The staff were well presented, polite and attentive. A special thank you to Luke who gave fantastic service. Although pricey, I would recommend and come again.

Honestly never wanted to leave a 1 star. But that's what this deserves. I booked a table on the 29th July for the 9th of September. (Their May have been a mix up, this is me giving the receptionist an ounce of freedom to make a mistake) but regardless of the conversation I did make a booking and was also added to a cancellation list for earlier dates. I rang today to confirm the booking, after no booking was found I had the displeasure of speaking with the owner. The conversation left me feeling like I should definitely eat else where in the future, no talk of organising a different date, no apology despite repeatedly letting me know that they do occasionally make mistakes when booking a reservation. my partner held you on such a pedestal. No longer the case

I'm glad we visited The Westwood after thinking about it for a few years. Staff, service, surroundings, drinks, setting, and food all excellent. This place is not cheap, but they have the highest standards. I'd say better than Star Inn the city, York

This was our first visit and we were really thrilled with the experience. Service from the lovely young staff was excellent - attentive but not annoying - and the ambience of this stylish restaurant was really pleasing. Portion sizes were good, too - we always worry when going to a higher-end restaurant that we're going to want a cheese sandwich when we get home, but they were what chef Andrew Nutter calls "Northern portions". We're looking forward to another visit already.

My husband thought it was the best restaurant meal he had eaten for a long time: perfectly cooked. My duck salad was delicious. Slightly odd wine pricing though.

Fantastic meal, once again! We had a party of 9 and everyone’s starters, mains and desserts were gorgeous! Wine was great and Guinness zero for my husband who was driving. The staff and service were excellent. Highly recommend!

Food is delightful, limited menu but caters for all tastes/preferences. Duck starter never fails to exceed expecatations and partner loved the crab and brioche. We had lamb and halibut for mains - cooked to perfection. The dining experience is intimate and waiter/ess service is spot on. Attentive but not intrusive. Fondant chocolate pudding was jsut the right size to complement the meal - all in all a lovely meal out. Its pricey but for the food and ambience this is to be expected.

Booked table for my 50 year anniversary. The food was absolutely disgraceful The chicken was discolored and raw. When i complained the food to the manger I was told by him the ware absolutely nothing rong with it. I paid my bill and left was never more disgusted in my life.

We visit The Westwood for special occasions, this time being for the visit from relatives from Geneva who are very fussy! Everything was to their satisfaction fortunately.

The only issue we had is that my wife cannot eat fibre in her diet at all, not even 1%. We explained to the staff/chef but the chef still added fibrous food on the plate. I understand that there are a lot of tolerances around but would expect a Michelin Star chef to know what food has fibre in it. Other than that we were very happy with everything else

Lunchtime fixed price menu fabulous. Ate outside - heaters worked a treat on a dull day.

The restaurant, food and service were very good. No complaints at all. However at the start of the evening my husband ordered some squash but was told that wasn’t possible. We have dined in many different restaurants and every single one has been able to provide a simple glass of squash. When asked what non alcoholic beverages were available we were told the options were non alcoholic beer or a mocktail. I cannot believe that an establishment such as the Westwood in Beverley was unable to provide squash. Sadly for this reason alone we will not be returning or recommending The Westwood in Beverley (unless they start serving squash like every other eating establishment). Thank you

Food was good and the venue is really good, however the service was just ok. We were looking forward to a fantastic meal for my wife’s birthday but it was Ok and expensive, there are better options near Beverley.

We were the first table seated for the service and we were surprised that the next two parties were seated next to us given the rest of the dining area was unoccupied. Now we appreciate that logistically this may be more convenient for staffing etc, but it was disappointing that we felt so immediately crowded when the space could have been populated more organically over time.

Westwood consistently delivers food at a very high standard from the menu construction being well though out with inclusion of some great veggie dishes. The plates are served with great attention to detail by a great front of house rteam. The chefs deliver every time on flavours and textures combining well. I you are a Food Lover this is the place for you.

My first experience of fine dining. Food Devine, staff lovely and courteous. Lovely surroundings. Little attentions to detail. Definitely will go again.

We enjoyed ur lunch very much. The food was imaginatively presented and very tasty, especially the scallops. Service was friendly without being obstrusive.

Starter was disappointing, I ordered King Scallops though what I was serviced was fair from a King Scallop. All small Scallops and tasteless dish is general. The main was nice, I ordered the Wagyu Beef. The dessert was also nice, I ordered the Pistachio Choux Bun.

Not been for a while so decided to re visit. The restaurant was busy but a nice ambience. Service was excellent throughout. Starters were excellent but unfortunately the mains let it down. My partner asked for her fillet steak medium too well but it was medium rare so was sent back. My ribeye wass not good as it had a lot of chewy sinew through it. I did comment when my plate was taken away and to be fair the restaurant manager came to see me before I paid the bill and took it off . We found the price of drinks very expensive.

We enjoyed a lovely evening meal at The Westwood, the food was excellent and the waitresses that served us where very friendly and attentive.
