I don't know which Wellington Arms Olivia Mann reviewed below, but I can guarantee it wasn't this charming place in a beautiful part of Baughurst in Hampshire. We've been coming here to eat for years, with the latest on Saturday 10th Feb for a birthday breakfast. The fresh, locally produced food was delicious - though I'd expect nothing less given their lunches and dinners are unfailingly good. Trust me when I say the staff don't have time to gossip as Olivia suggests. They're too busy, too attentive and too intent on providing great service, led by Simon and Sheila's exemplary front-of-house example. The Wellington Arms (this one, at least) is a gem. And if Olivia's misplaced review puts you off, it's your loss. But hey, it frees up a table for me. Every cloud....

I went here for a family meal received appalling service. The staff were completely rude and inattentive. We waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive and had to ask a member of staff 3 times where our drinks were after 20 minutes. We heard some members of staff gossiping about other people and even speaking poorly about certain customers. This made me feel quite self conscious and uncomfortable. However their hygiene levels were very high. After our experience here I would not go again unfortunately as I live 5 miles away from this location making it easy to access.

A picturesque dinner outing place in a rural Hampshire area, small and cute, and charming for sure with an excellent (slightly overpriced though) kitchen. Because the restaurant is tiny it lacks a bit of privacy. I took away one star because I booked an anniversary dinner with my Partner, which I mentioned during booking but no special setting was arranged even in smallest - which would be a nice gesture. On top of that we got a small table just by the bar that disallowed us any privacy. One would expect a couple’s anniversary to receive a more romantic treatment, just as a nice gesture.

Arrogant and Rude owner, absolutely agree with other people reviews. Simon is nice, but Jason ( chef/owner) rude and horrible. You cant ask him anything, this man the most unhelpful and rude person i have ever met. He thinks he is a God, but Jason you're ONLY a chef, please get down to earth and understand that people like we are, who keep your business going. Stop being arrong and rude and be nice to your customers. Not only he was nasty to me ( i stayed there for 2 nights), but also to 80 years old lady who asked him how to cook a take away chicken, which she bought from him. This is absolutely disgusting behavior, should be ashamed of himself. Its a very small village and people talk, and they got not very good opinion of this individual. Need to change Jason, you will lose all your customers.

Outstanding in every way. A wonderful experience for all of the senses. The quality of ingredients/food/cheffing for our evening meal courses (and breakfast) was just superb and the wines we tried were absolutely gorgeous. The location is tranquil/beautiful and the wonderful, listed, main building oozes character and a warm, welcoming charm which essentially continues and evolves into a very cosy/homely 'old pub' ambience within but of a high quality. The main building (and the lovely accommodation buildings, plants, beds and grounds) are all beautifully maintained and presented (which is an extra effort and expense at this time of year) and many establishments don't bother sadly but the Wellington Arms do, which speaks volumes about their professionalism and care about the whole 'experience' there for visitors and our stay was a really refreshing 'joy', start to finish. The Wellington Arms is a genuine 'gem' and a really great find. It is head and shoulders above most other establishments of its type. Everything oozed real quality, care and attention to detail but without being pretentious. 'Quietly wonderful'. It all spoke for itself eloquently and beautifully. The perfect balance in my humble opinion. My only regret is that we didn't stay 2 nights. We shall be back.

I realise that I’ve been to The Welli three times and have never left a review – shame on me! This is one of the best, well organised, well-run gastro pubs in the UK and deserves every accolade it receives. The staff are gracious, warm and welcoming from the word go to the very end and you could, on that basis alone, only want to come back; the food is well thought out with something for everyone and especially game in season; the veg grows yards from the door and is un-mucked-about and left to sing for itself; the wine list used to be stupendous but unfortunately, Covid meant they had to sell their stocks to keep going; so now it is shortened but well-formed. Saying that, they only charged us £20 for corkage which was very generous. We hope to continue going there and that they continue to provide excellence as the norm. Many thanks…… Highly recommended.

This is such a great restaurant I've ended up going twice in one week. Between both visits, I had the excellent home-grown stuffed courgette flowers, a perfectly cooked ribeye, fantastic chicken potpie with foraged mushrooms, plus an exquisite elderflower trifle and some of the homemade ice creams. Plus some of the best brownies I've ever tried to take away. Everything on the menu is cooked perfectly. It's an especially nice touch that a lot of produce is home-grown and some available to buy and take away with you. To top it all off, the service is friendly and really welcoming, plus a great drinks list. This has comfortably become my new favourite place to eat.

Our first visit. We cannot praise & thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg & salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher & Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners - every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk & homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince & Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason & Sheila. We will be back, soon.

This is the perfect place for an idyllic lunch on a sunny day. The garden that you are invited to eat in is a delight so much so that I can't fairly say much about the inside of this establishment as I was completely charmed and captivated by the garden and outside space! I can have nothing but compliments too for our waitress. She was knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and efficient. And the menu...oh goodness. What a lunch we had! My husband even had desert, which is very rare, as he had so enjoyed his meal he wanted to keep doing so. So why would you go to the Wellington Arms at Baughurst...why for wonderful food in a wonderful garden prepared and served by wonderful people! Thank you so much to the team.

The wellington Arms was like staying in a mini 5 star hotel without the stuffiness. We stayed in ‘The apartment’ room - it was a suite. Beautifully appointed with stunning furniture, fabulous bed and just had everything you could need. Really high end products and delightful little touches. We had dinner in the restaurant and when we went up to our room after dinner the curtains had been drawn, radio playing softly, bed turned down and pillows fluffed. Tea tray cleaned and milk in the fridge replaced… such a lovely touch. Dinner was delightful. It was evidently locally sourced and seasonal. Good value and offered something for everyone. Lovely service too. Breakfast was also excellent. Overall excellent value for money ( we stayed on a Thursday night so a little less than a weekend) Would highly recommend and will return.

I have such a soft spot for The Welly! We discovered it by chance years ago after getting a bit lost during a weekend drive and walked in with the hope they could serve us some lunch. The owner Simon was so obliging and charming and did us fish and chips and ice cream even though they were busy. We’ve been back many times over the years and it never disappoints. Food is always delicious and appetising without being fussy. We recently visited for dinner at the weekend. I had a very generous piece of fresh Cornish cod, my husband had a perfectly cooked steak. Wine was excellent and a fair price. Service is friendly without being ott. It’s a well-heeled crowd, smartly dressed but a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. I love the historic feeling without it feeling old-fashioned or twee. There’s a beautiful garden and small holding if the weathers good. They also do take away pies, bread and marmalade. They have very nice rooms too if you wanted to stay. Thanks Simon and team for a lovely evening.

We recently booked in for dinner, bed and breakfast. We have been for dinner before but not stayed overnight. Our room (the Cart House) was fabulous. Comfortable, spacious, clean, quiet (with the occasional sound of very sweet baby lambs in the neighbouring field) and calming which was perfect after the somewhat stressful day we had had before we arrived. On arrival Simon immediately made us feel welcome and relaxed. Indeed all the Welli Team are highly professional and welcoming. As always the food was superb. Thank you Jason and all in the kitchen. Checked the website which said breakfast was available to non residents. Decided to pop in with my husband on our anniversary for a treat. Staff looked at us like asking for breakfast was crazy. Left us waiting for ages then came back to say they were busy. There was no-one there besides one couple who had just arrived so we were baffled. They were rude and condescending. Just a really horrible experience when we were trying to do something as a treat. Maybe starting that booking= no service on the website would be an idea and also just generally being a bit nicer. Cosy rooms. Our food was flavoursome and arrived super speedily. We had chorizo and Romano pepper. Devils on Horseback and ham hock croquettes followed by scallops wrapped in pancetta and a beautifully cooked rib eye steak. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding which comes very highly recommended.

Really enjoyed our meal, went midweek for a birthday treat. Had scallops and terrine for starters both excellent, mains of rack of lamb and lemon sole - again excellent, we even managed pudding of treacle tart and trifle.Service was very good even though we had to wait for our order to initially be taken. It is fairly expensive but the quality of food very good.Overall would recommend and will go again

Yet again a magnificent meal as my wife, my sister & my brother in law revelled in the sheer class of this establishment. Simon & Jason should be very proud of what they have achieved. My liver & bacon was gorgeous, preceded by potted crab with the Wellington's own sourdough ( we bought a loaf! ). Add to this a bottle of Italian Souave & lovely Spanish Rioja & we give top marks all round.

What a little gem we've found. Just took my Mum for her birthday and managed to book after a brief closure for holidays. Set in beautiful grounds where veg and herbs are grown to adorne the delicious menu, this charming resteraunt is tastefully decorated to.suit its quaint country pub style properties age, whilst retaining a warmth of character and atmosphere often missing these days. The chef is obviouy at the top of his game. From the nibbles through the starters and mains, to the puddings, every one of the dishes was absolutely perfect in its freshness, taste and proportion. Really high quality food that will ensure we return to be treated again for sure. The service was equally perfect with very attentive, friendly and non pretentious staff. The time given between dishes was a super refreshing change from the all too often rush to turn tables. We felt very welcome and un-hurried in a wonderfully warm atmosphere with all the other patrons also appearing to enjoy the food as much as we did. Thank you Wellington Arms for such a fabulous Saturday lunch. In the immortal words of an Austrian body builder turned film star.....We'll be back !!!! Simon & Suzette

We decided to book for lunch on Boxing Day so we could with relax and enjoy beautiful food after a very busy Christmas. Just as before everything was as perfect. We all chose a different main course and all four of them were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious, accompanied by perfectly chilled and beautiful white wine. The steak my fiance ordered was one of the tastiest he's ever eaten which says a lot as he usually orders steak when we eat out. The inside of pub and the gardens are kept absolutely prestinely. We are coming back in the summer months to sit outside and enjoy their stunning garden.

Country pub, very welcoming. Expensive but limited menu for vegetarians, however was very willing to make adjustments for vegetarians which turned out really nicely. Super tasty food with good portion sizes and excellent dessert menu. Recommend Honey Chaser lager. Dog friendly too. Only 12 tables, booking essential.

I am quite shocked that because I was unable to get to the hotel due to a car accident which left my car being unable to drive, I was told I could not get either a refund or a re-booking. I actually asked if they could re-book my 3 nights at a later date but they said they could offer me one night. I cannot believe this, most hotels will be able to re-book all of your booking. I was not able to come due to a serious problem, but they were not prepared to give me any leeway and the lady on the phone just put the phone down on me. How sad that they could do this to someone at Christmas? I had no control of what happened to me, nor the timing. Very poor service

Seven of us had lunch here on a Sunday in early winter. It was outstanding. The dining area was packed out and people were arriving to lunch as late as 3:00pm. Highly recommended - just off the road from Basingstoke to Newbury. It's not cheap but it is worth every penny.

We had the table d'hote menu which was rather limited but good quality and very tasty, followed by tea and coffee. My only bugbear is the added service charge on the bill - I do not like this practice.

We have visited this restaurant ( it does not have a bar area or people just visiting for drinks) several times. Lunch is excellent value, but dinner is much more expensive. Wines start at around £30 but are excellent. Main courses can be £18 but once added vegetables the bill can be costly. It is also worth booking a table in the front windows to avoid the drought from the kitchen in winter it is cold sitting eating.

The Wellington is a very attractive pub, with a delightful garden even in winter. We in the main enjoyed our 3 course set menu for £20, which is good value. However, to keep the price down inevitably there have been compromises. It is easy enough to increase the bill with extras. For example the Shepherd’s Pie is £2.50 extra. Vegetables are not generally included and cost £4 for a good sized portion. Bread is an extra £1. In addition, while the first and sweet courses are of a good size the main courses are fairly modestly sized and for example there is not very much smoked salmon in the main course salad (which was nevertheless delicious) and despite the surcharge there was a relatively modest portion of meat in the Shepherd’s Pie. The wine by the glass is fairly expensive. The food is mostly tasty, although 3 of the 4 portions of rhubarb ice-cream were distinctly short of rhubarb and therefore rather dull.
