The Waterside in North Ayrshire

Six of us there for late lunch, restaurant not very busy, but still took nearly an hour to get main course after our starter had been eaten. Very poor service for a quiet time in restaurant. Food was good but what a time we had to wait on it. Waitress apologised for our wait but manager never came near.

Pleased that we popped in for lunch to this place. On a warm and sunny October afternoon it was perfect to sit outside surrounded by palm trees. The food was good. My ciabatta with ham and cheese was tasty and our friend was happy with seafood chowder. We will be back!

Lovely hotel. Nice decor all over including the rooms, which also had good facilities. Staff are friendly , helpful and provided great service The food , including breakfast lunch and dinner were all excellent too. Huge portions! The hotel have their own access to the beach, which is great. Lovely garden area around the hotel where you can sit too.

Great location. Decor and atmosphere amazing. Fabulous menu. Service and food were out of this world. Very reasonably priced! Definitely worth visiting. 👌

Not been here for a few years, but when we were going on girls night for dinner I suggested here as it used to be great. Was so disappointed. Firstly the prices have really gone up, and not to what I could say justified because the quality or portions have! Opted for fish and chips, now everyone knows fish and chips are chunky real cut home made chips…….. these were definitely frozen skinny fries. The fish was small, the salad was wilting. The ketchup watered down! So for dessert I thought go for the millionaire Sunday!! So sad, this was a small amount of sauce at bottom of bowl, with scoops of plain ice cream with a squirt of cream and the tiniest bit of cheap tray bake millionaire short bread at top! It was nearly £10 for this. I have had far superior for half the price. Sadly I won’t be back, can’t believe how disappointed I was and after me recommending this to my friends.

We had a fantastic meal today, the menu was suitable for all, to include vegetarian. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, the staff were excellent. Sophie, our server, was not only efficient but had a very good sense of humour - she should be commended.

Stayed at the Waterside hotel for 2 nights DBB offer, everything was prefect for us room, food, drinks and customer service.

i went here with my partner for an overnight stay. the room had a stunning view of the river and arran in the distance. our dinner and breakfast was beautiful. everything from our starters to our sweet was very appetising. the room was very spacious with a very comfortable bed. i would definitely come back for the night again

I went in for a meal with mum we had not been to The Waterside in a few years after a bad experience with our fish and chips we went today thinking things might have improved but it was like history repeating itself the fish was dried out like a frozen fish the batter saturated in grease the chips was dry and tasteless mum's was the same she though the fish tasted strange in parts of it the waitress was told how bad it was she gave us the choice of something else instead so I got the sticky toffee pudding which was ok but not great in small portion with a dollop of cream on the plate with crushed digestive biscuit along with a very tiny scoop of ice cream mum got her burger it was just as bad saturated in grease with greasy onion rings, although there was a discount on the terrible food served to us today we will not be back why pay the amount of money for terrible inedible meals when you can go else where.

Met up with our friends at this perfectly located hotel with access to the unspoilt beach. Relaxing walks and delicious food made an enjoyable stay. Our room was spotless with views over to Arran. Thanks to all the helpful and friendly staff who were welcoming and went out of their way to ensure we were looked after. Special thanks to Alyson Scott and Aimee for their kindness who made our stay even more memorable. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Took my husband here to treat him to lunch as he hadn't been before. I have been many times with friends. Went for lunch and had ciabattas which were absolutely delicious. And very filling. My husband told me it was the best lunch he has had in any hotel. Staff were very friendly. Hubby definitely wants to go back again. X

Had a voucher for an afternoon tea which we thoroughly enjoyed but disappointed after we finished at not being able to sit in a soft seat near kitchen as this was a pet friendly area and my husband has an allergy to dogs. We were told that the seats could be wiped down but if anyone came in with a dog we would have to move. It just seems pets come before humans these !! We do often like to relax on these seats after a meal for a few drinks and it frees up the table, unfortunately not any more as no other area is provided for a relaxing drink without a dog.

A gift for our Golden Wedding celebration on the actual date.We had a great time with you in our deluxe room, the sea view was outstanding and the food in the restaurant was amazing. Was very excited to come here for our Sunday family dinner, unfortunately left with a very bad taste, there was hardly anything on the menu, the waiter had to come about 5 times and say they run out of stuff, then to get a main course that tasted like it was sitting under the heating lamp for an hour... the linguine was the worst I had to date, tasted like cold passata and overcooked scallops, wouldn’t recommend to eat here, the views are lovely hence why we came it’s just a shame they didn’t deliver with the food. Booked a table for dinner whilst staying in the hotel. Numerous staff walked by us not even acknowledging us before were taken to our table.Table was sticky and in middle of room with a draught coming through whenever the door was opened.There was an open kitchen where not one member of staff had their nose covered by their mask - one boy appeared to be wearing it as a beard net.Food was good although overpriced for Wetherspoon/brewers fayre style food.No satisfaction checks to see if we were happy and no offer of the bill - had to go up to the bar to request and pay this. Again was not asked if meal was ok when paying. Mentioned kitchen staff not wearing masks correctly which looked like the boy couldn’t care less.Breakfast experience much better in the morning with 2 nice male waiting staff looking after us. Again kitchen boy wasn’t wearing mask but this could be argued he was social distancing as was in himself.Would not recommend for meal in current climate.

We love the setting its beautiful & staff friendly but went this week for afternoon tea outside was booked. The couple that came later next to us had a dog which kept barking at another dog & peed in front of us on the outside sofa less than 2 metres away when we mentioned it to owners & staff They said it didn't matter covid 19 etc etc they could have at least apologised & sprayed it with anti bac, not impressed!!Never go on bank holiday.

Came here a couple of years ago and had a wonderful lunch. Decided would have a wee run to Largs so good opportunity to return. Wish we hadn’t overpriced and more like Wetherspoon fast food. At nearly £20 for seafood linguine thought I was in for a treat . What did I get overcooked pasta a few pieces of salmon couple of scallops and clams 2 out 5 hadn’t opened . Whilst hubby had tandoori chicken curry it was nothing to write home about and home cooked “chips” must have been left over from last night. Only good thing to say is it’s a beautiful setting and staff really friendly but certainly won’t be coming back .

Our family went for dinner Tues 18th August, the eat out to help out deal, fish and chips very disappointing, small overcooked and bones, tacos 3 of them and just green leafes with them, 5 out of 6 mains were not up to standard for the price you pay for a main course, very biz, to much of a rush, even with the 50%off deal was not worth it, best to avoid this place

This was our first visit since lockdown.We did not like the very slow queue to enter the restaurant. There was one girl attending to the queue but it was taking her so long between guests. This really needs to speed up as it is ok on a dry day but it would have been dreadful if the weather had been different.The menu was good. Plenty of choice. Service was a bit slow even although there were plenty of staff about.Presentation and standard of food was fine.The tables were well spread out and a one way system in pkace for entering and exiting the building with hand sanitisers at both.A few adjustments and this could be a much better experience.

Second visit to the beautifully located restaurant. Unfortunately no improvement on the service. 20 minutes wait for the drinks and 30 minutes for the food to be delivered. Food was cold so obviously sitting under the hot plate. Loads of waiting staff but management should concentrate on the kitchen service and managing the back of house. It’s such a shame but it seem the reputation of service preceded everything else. One staff member was very attentive with great skills which we thanked her for.

Great restaurant in an absolutely amazing location. We were a party of eight, four adults and four kids. The choice of food on the menu was well balanced with a good blend of seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes. The quality of the food was very good, only small issue was that one of the kids portions was small, probably aimed at younger kids. Our fault we should have checked before ordering. The staff were friendly and efficient and the restaurant itself is decorated to a high standard. The view from the car park in the attached photograph tells you everything you need to know about the location.

First post covid meal out and it was amazing - the service in the main was great until trying to get a desert menu, the 15 minute did allow the meal settle, but still not good, however that did not detract from the earlier great service and brilliant food, well presented and beautifully tasting. This was an awful experience. Firstly, we had booked for 5pm but still had to wait in a 30 minute queue. Had reserved a table outside however after asking 3 separate waitresses and then lying about having no tables we settled with a table indoors. No problems about the food it was fine other than being over priced. Such a strange restaurant, you can see some staff being rude to others, polishing cutlery beside our table etc? We waited 18 minutes for a bottle of cola and asked twice for its whereabouts. The staff didn’t ask us anything we had to get our own spoons despite an abundance of bored uncaring staff, we weren’t asked anything and ignored. The server rolled her eyes twice when taking our order (we can still see your eyes despite you wearing a mask.) So so bad you can’t make this stuff up. Genuinely the worst uncaring experience we’ve ever ever had, I’m shocked as to how a lovely looking hotel can operate like this. We’re still so shocked as to how ridiculous this place is. Myself and a friend went to have some lunch on Friday the 7th of August 2020 at around 1 pm and told, we had to leave by 2 pm. COVID 19 regulation or table booking I can't remember. We were shown to a table and asked if we would like a drink while we decided on what to order.The drinks arrived 5 or so minutes later, good so far.20 minutes later we had to remind a member of staff we had been waiting 20 minutes, since the drinks arrived for someone to take our order.Order taken.Our food arrived and as you can see from the photos my friends light snack seemed the same portion size as my main course and half the price.But this can some times happen.My burger cane with chips that were mildly warm and onion rings that were severely undercooked. I couldn't eat any of the onion rings. As for the chips, not appetizing.Now the burger also was also mildly warm, the chicken in the middle was not hot or seemed hot.I did take a few mouthfuls to see if I was missing something.But no I couldn't finish it.I am always wary of food in restaurants when my food comes out on cold plates.A hot plate makes such a difference to keeping the food warm. And both, myself and my friends plates were cold.And even before we had tasted our food a waitress, as she walked by aakes" is everything okay ?" And was gone.So food, out of 10, is a 3.As for service we had to attract the attention of staff to order food and to get the bill. And even at the end when we paid the bill the lady said " thank you and have a nice day." Mostly to the mirror at the bar, not even looking in our direction by that time, she had swiped the card and got the money and she was off.Food, retrain the chef or fire.Waiting staff retrain on good customer service, look people inthe eye, look, scan the tables you are responsible for, to see if customers need assistance.I have never in, maybe 10 years,so wanted just to walk out of a restaurant, my friend did not want to make a scene. As you can see from the pictures a lot of food was left uneaten however not one member of staff asked the simple question, " was something wrong with your food ? "So overall not an enjoyable experience.

The location and the ambiance of this place is second to none - but sadly may not be enough to sustain it for much longer! I have been coming here for years and it’s so sad to find it go downhill each time I visit from London. The prices are inexcusable and the service mediocre at best!I met with a friend to take advantage of the eat out to help out government offer and even with the £20 discount the bill was still on the high side - and I’m used to central London prices these days!£8-9 for a (small) starter or dessert?! We went as a family of 4, greeted very friendly and shown to our table where we were told about the one way system etc. Drinks order taken and everything seemed fine. Had a look at the menu, as I've been a few times I instantly new the prices had went up quite a considerable amount, possible to take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme, who knows. So we order food, starters were OK not great but OK. I then had a burger that was clearly a frozen one due to the density of it, a bun that was solid and "dirty fries" that had a teaspoon of bbq sauce even less cheese and 3 pieces of half cooked bacon, at £16.95 (extra quid for cheese) you would at least expect a fresh burger. My son had a jack Daniels "glazed" chicken and rib combo.the chicken was infact just a chicken breast with cajun spice blend on it no glaze and 5 half ribs that had a splash of sauce after being boiled, again no glaze at £17 you would expect better. The service was good so we cant fault the waiting staff, however who ever is in charge of pricing and the cooking needs a good hard look at themselves. We will most definitely not be back, an I wouldn't recommend to anyone unless it's for a overpriced coffee

Wow! I went in to this restaurant with very low expectations after reading some reviews on here prior and boy was I right to do so. These low expectations werent even met. The service started off well with us being shown to a table on the mezzanine level of the restaurant and our order for drinks and food being taken within a reasonable time. However it all went downhill from there. Our starters came, salt and chilli chicken and the bruchetta. The brushetta was brick hard, my fiance has difficulty just cutting it and it also looked as if it had been lying out for ages. The salt and chilli chicken was overly crispy and lacked the salt and chilli apart from a side of sweet chilli sauce. After our starters were taken away I ordered more drinks to make sure they came before our main arrived. After asking 3 times for these drinks and going down to the bar to ask again they finally arrived when my fiance had finished his main course. Our mains were the steak and the fishcakes. Although the main parts of our main meals were just okay, the side dishes were horrific and we were severly put off after not having anything to drink with our dinner. And don't even get me started on the breakfast the next day! Overall the service was shocking and the food was not worth the money at all. I'm all for giving restaurants a try no matter what the trip advisor reviews are but it was not worth the time spent there or the money we paid. Staff need to be more attentive and the kitchen staff need a serious retrain if thats the type of food theyre serving for these prices.

Dropped in hoping to have lunch with my wife. With social distancing was happy to queue for almost half an hour. Finally got to the desk and asked 'what can I do for you? ' When she realised I hadn't a booking was told they couldn't take us. When complained we'd queued there was a shrug of the shoulders as if to say tough luck. Realise we should respect staff at these difficult times but surely there should be some respect for customers as well. Won't be back ever again!

Can I first say that the Waterside has always been a favourite place for our family over the years! I realise that Covid19 has affected the hospitality industry more than most and that you have to be praised on getting back to some level of normality. The service of the guys and girls was fantastic as usual! However on attending the Waterside on for my wife’s birthday lunch myself and my wife felt somewhat let down by the seemingly lower quality of food and the marked increase in prices! How it can be justified for over £7 for the starters especially the bruschetta! The mains portions are smaller with the quality of the beef burger being dry, the battered fish being a lot smaller than before with a poor quality tartar sauce in a paper serving pot you would see in McDonalds! The tandoori chicken sauce was very bland served with supermarket quality nan bread! The side of hand chips were overcooked and seemed reheated! Both myself and my son were having soft drinks where on receiving the bill found it was £3.30 for a soft drink! I looked up the Watersides menu from last year and found an increase of almost 25% on some items! On speaking to family at a small get together later in the evening they asked how our lunch was and on giving our honest opinion the were taken aback by our comments over the quality and value! The following day I revived an email feedback request which I completed honestly and submitted! I have not received any response from this. I can truly say that until I see a marked improvement in the quality and pricing structure we will not be returning to your establishment!

This hasn't been our first visit as we have been here before! What a beautiful Sunday dinner we have just had! The staff are fantastic! The social distancing and hand sanitiser in place is great! Thank you so much we can't wait to come back.

Staff are very friendly but beer and wine prices are extortionate! Nice clean facilities and are very Covid aware. Good outdoor spacious areas and good for kids outside. Only problem was as above mentioned.

This was a place we always looked forward to visiting when we came to see our family , we even had our joint birthday party there. We had lunch there yesterday and what a disappointment, we ordered the chef’s special mac and cheese, I am still trying to think what was special, was it the dry pasta, the watery tasteless sauce or the few strips of bacon. After some thought I figured it out ...it was the PRICE £13 + for something that I could get a microwave meal that tasted better. So I decided to wash it down with a soft drink, who would of thought you would pay £3.15 for a small glass bottle of Pepsi. There are places in the local area that provide better quality of food at reasonable prices, I will not be returning this chain restaurants anytime soon.

Came here on 10th march for a 1 night stay dbb check in was smooth room was really nice views from the room to the beach were good the jacuzzi bath was fantastic?staff are all professional food was really good but service at dinner was a bit disappointing sorry just how I felt but would definitely return

Went along this morning with my husband, as we have done a few times. The restaurant area is lovely, staff are pleasant , however as with our last 2 visits, the service was very poor. We had to ask staff again if we could order and then had to wait some time before we received our order. There was a wedding party, from yesterday, meeting each other in the area and I think the problem was down to not enough staff on shift. I would have thought that the staff manager would anticipate this knowing how many people had stayed over and the average number of “drop in” customers for a Saturday. Also, prices for same order seem to vary at each visit ? 3 poor visits have really put me off going again.

Bought one of the 2 course deals online and found it excellent value for money.The night we visited was during one of our seemingly endless number of storms but on entering we found it lovely and warm and welcoming.Service was very good and a fairly good choice on the menu.All our dishes were well presented and tasted lovely but a word of warning, wine is well overpriced.

This restaurant and all the Simpsons group have gone vastly overpriced for what they are actually offering ,with main courses approx £15,we ordered and within 3-5 minutes the food was brought to the table, I understand the restaurant procedure certain parts and meals are pre prepared but the beef and chicken were tough to the point where the beef was like leather,to get a £15 meal per person from order to table in approx 5 minutes shows me and anyone else with common sense that too many short cuts, wrong procedures are being carried out ,won't be back to any of them ,there are far better value for money restaurants with freshly prepared food in the area

This is an excellent restaurant, ideal for couples and families, there is seating outside where you have views of the beach, the food is very good and a fabulous choice

We waited twenty minutes to order. One of our party wanted GF pasta another GF Fajitas. After ten minutes waitress came and said no GF pasta. Ten minutes later came back to say no GF Fajitas but order just delivered so GF pasta. After a long wait food arrived. The meal was OK but nothing outstanding. There were five of us and the restaurant was not busy so no excuse for such slow service. We arrived at 12:00 and left at 14:05 an inordinately long time for lunch. Our previous visit was years ago when it first opened and the service then was equally slow so we won’t dine there again. Unfortunately we are attending a wedding there in May. It could be a long day.

Dropped in for a spot of lunch wasn't busy so seated quick and offered a drink straight away, wasn't too impressed by the fact we were seated right next to another couple when the restaurant was so empty I'm not that happy about eating on top of somebody else when plenty of other seats are available, I opted for the seafood chowder was just seafood swimming in a blow of double cream wasn't pleasant at all extremely rich and i failed to get through even a quarter after id picked out random pieces of seafood, the drinks were fine beer and wine nothing special but id give the chowder a miss if I went back I think there requires more info about the chowder on the menu

Poor Experience we booked dinner from a voucher we had received as a gift, the voucher did not state that the 2 course meal is from a limited menu, ...the limited menu offered 5 starters and 5 mains.... we ordered the soup of the day which we had been advised while being seated at table and burger and chips both staple restaurant favourites, we ordered a bottle of wine... which was bounced on to the the table with two glasses and we were left to open it and pour ! then 10mins later we were advised the soup was not now available OK these things happen we then re ordered starters, to be advised that the burgers ordered were now not available !!!! menu now down to 4 options on the starter and main !!! we asked what was replacing the items now not available after a good 10 min we were offered chicken burger ..perfect we ordered... the replacement food was just OK nothing spectacular the service was awful it;s not the first time was have experienced bad service at this restaurant but it will be the last !!! the final straw was sitting in the bar area finishing our wine when 3 kids circa 8/10 years old wandered in dressed in their PJ's messing about .....no issue with kids but it's a bar restaurant and it was 9.45pm not what i would expect ! in summary it's wedding venue and the focus is without a trace of doubt on weddings being held on the day ....... but that said it is to the detriment of other paying customers.

We opted to dine at the waterside as we were guests at the hotel. The restaurant was lovely, nice addition of a log burner next to some comfy couches to relax on after dinner. The menu was quite pricey but we opted for the 2 courses for £15 which we thought would be good value. All the food was absolutely delicious! I particularly enjoyed the fish and chips. Drinks are pricey-£5.60 for a pint!!! The waterside cocktail is a must try

Lovely restaurant on the main road ocean view nice place inside Staff friendly till you see the prices drinks were above the normal shocking meals were the same had to wait for half a hour for starters £15 for a two course plus £3 something for dessert pretty expensive for a restaurant to get to if you haven't got transport won't be hurrying back quick

Lovely location on the Firth of Clyde with view to the sea. Good service, good food and good atmosphere.
