The Watermans Arms in Pembrokeshire

Booked this restaurant for a family birthday celebration on a Saturday evening (4 adults, 4 children). We were seated near the bar next to the locals who were extremely noisy, shouting across the bars and at one point got into a scuffle whilst we were trying to have a dinner with our family.Food was as expected for pub-menu but totally inappropriate venue for families with young children.

Hands down the best burger on our Wales trip! The staff were so friendly but what made this place was the burger! Delicious patty and the onion chutney is just delicious. Such a great spot, thank you to the lovely staff as well. Definitely highly recommend. Did I mention the burger….

Cannot fault food too much but the experience was perfunctory and underwhelming for what was a special birthday. It was not that busy on a week night but staff were inattentive and the food took an hour. We would have spent more on drinks being a celebration but we were not asked. A lost opportunity. We were a largish party booked in advance but we were not given a table big enough, we had to get a small bar stool ourselves and there was inadequate space to eat. When one of our party mentioned there was mix up with the food it was taken away. Regardless of fault, was no apology or understanding of special dietary requirements. We understand it’s been a stressful year but we did not feel very welcomed and were left feeling we could have just gone to the chippy and spent the £xxx in a livelier pub. A shame because it looked like a great pub, I’m sure it is but just not on that day.

We booked in advance to ensure we had a table after a visit to the castle. Nice to walk into a lively pub popular with the locals. Had a nice spot in a bay window overlooking river. Prompt friendly service. Food arrived in a timely manner for the different orders of six family members. It all looked great and I was envious of the sweet and sour chicken served to my wife and my sons onion rings, albeit my order was yummy. Disappointed we were too full to have a pud, but bet they would have been as tasty. Fully recommended by this family.

Popped in hoping to feed four hungry kids. Lovely table on the outdoor balcony, overlooking the castle and Mill pond. Everyone's food was lovely, daughter wants to eat here everyday!Very basic menu but, generous portions and obvious care taken with what is available. Service was great, would definitely go back.

A nice pub in a wonderful location, obviously run by a family that work hard and are proud of their place. Don't understand why it wasn't packed when we went in (a Tuesday lunchtime), as the view from the balconies outside should make this a very popular spot. All the food was as described on what is a good pub menu - as it was when we visited several years ago. The food isn't "gastro", because it isn't a restaurant, but it is homecooked, very nice, and all got finished by our happy group (seven of us aged 11-50, with very different tastes). We'll be back another year I'm sure.

Service was very slow although one of the staff members was friendly. After a 45 minute wait we received our starters during a quiet lunchtime. Mains were underwhelming with some slightly unpleasant aspects i.e. cold chips. We were presented with water containing insects and hair. We heard it was the best bar in Pembroke, we left thoroughly disappointed.

They made a mistake with my burger and I ordered a Waterman burger with barbecue but they gave me a blue cheese burger with chilli jam and I complained and they took the burger away , the jam in the blue burger was red and changed the sauce to barbecue which is brown they went to great lengths to cover up a mistake I would not go to this restaurant and do not recommend .They could of just apologised for the mistake and gave me a new burger or a refund

lovely location and pleasant staff. Food was standard, the ocean commotion burger was large and a bit bready, The drip trays stated Braines but there was no local beers. Food took a while to arrive and one order was forgotten but this was not a problem.

We ate here one evening during our stay in Pembroke. We were staying nearby so popped in to see if we could book a table that evening and the staff were very helpful.The food was good and the service excellent. Despite being busy several staff members took the time to chat with our young children during the meal.

First time visit to Pembroke and choices of places to eat lunch was rather limited but the Waterman’s arms was a pleasant surprise. Sitting outside on the deck overlooking the water and castle was perfect! Food was perfect, large portions and really delicious! Staff were lovely. Would recommend!

Catered for large family group on adjacent tables due to Covid restrictions. All food cooked to order and definitely worth waiting for. Friendly and efficient staff.

We had a last minute booking done online in the morning, and after visiting the castle my dad checked if we had a table, which we then only got because of the booking. It had a lovely deck on the water outside with a view of the castle and when we asked to move inside because of people smoking on the table next to us, the staff were very kind in letting us do so. The food and drinks came quickly and tasted great. Overall I'm glad we weren't able to find tables elsewhere.

What a lovely pub. We were accommodated at short notice - helpful and polite communication. Friendly staff- very helpful and quick service. Food was really delicious and there was good choice. We had a great experience.

What a brilliant place for food! Best food I had during my week trip to Wales. The staff are really lovely too. I highly recommend this place.

Food was acceptable - standard pub fare - and the service was pleasant. As a family with children we where placed at a table in the bar area next to very noisy groups of locals and this spoiled the experience as we couldn’t even here each other at our table.There is a restaurant area which appeared to be more appropriate to seat children. I would asked to be seated there if you make a reservation.

We visited today for Stepson’s birthday lunch. We all really enjoyed. The Husband and Stepson had the Duck Salad and I had the Halloumi and Mushroom Ciabatta. Our meals were absolutely delicious and we were so happy with our choices. We were seated at a table in the restaurant looking out at the castle and over the millpond and it was so relaxing watching the swans. The three of us agreed that everything was just perfect. Thank you very much to the lovely staff and of course the wonderful chef - it was a real pleasure to dine with you today and was the perfect place to choose for Stepsons birthday.

Despite previous reviewers, we had excellent service on a busy Friday evening - July 30th. Food was very tasty and good value for money.

Table booked for 7pm, menus not given for 15/20 minutes, ordered around 7.35 but food took almost an hour to arrive. Lovely food and obviously freshly cooked but an explanation as to why it would be a 90 minute wait would have helped.

Lovely views over the mill pond, food good, service excellent and friendly staff. What more can you want on a staycation!

After reading recent reviews we were a little apprehensive about our visit tonight however our experience was nothing short than perfect. The lady that served us all evening was attentive, prompt and engaging. We were a party of 6 (4 teenagers) so not the easiest to serve but she was great, chatty and patient. The food was really nice and good portions. We will definitely be back next time we are down this way on holiday. Thank you for a lovely evening.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a dinner at The Watermans Arms during our recent trip to Pembrokeshire. The food was exceptional, with generous portions. We can recommend the Lasagne and the Burger. The service was a little slow, hence why we've not given five stars.

Food was good, location was excellent. Unfortunately had to ask for a drink 3 times to one of the waitresses before I received my drink 45 minutes after ordering! Reasonably priced meal.

Table inside overlooking the water. Food was tasty, but a star is lost for ungenerous size of main course prawn salad - it was more like a starter. Fish and chips were good, in particular the 'proper' chips.

Great roast, price wise just see it for what it is, everything apart from from apart the quality of the meat was lovely clearly, this is reflected in the price. Had a lovely feel, waiting staff, kind, possibly needed a little direction, awful young, asked potty, yet, sweet questions, but, lovely to be served by, we are very aware that nationwide a severe lack of staff, all vegetables were cooked 2 perfection

Lovely little pub on the pond facing Pembroke Castle!Really generous portion sizes. Highly recommend saving room for dessert.Service a little slow so not one of you are in a rush (might be Covid linked). We weren’t at all so enjoyed watching the swans swimming about on the water

I read the reviews before booking and looked at the pictures online. I booked it based on the reviews and pictures, which make the place look nicer than it actually is.The dinner, which was a choice selection of Turkey, Beef, Pork and Nut Roast was ok.I asked if we could have boiled potatoes, because we saw mash being served, but were told there are no boiled potatoes on offer only mash. I asked for no butter in the mash as me and my son do not like butter. The mash came, with no butter but was gloopy, like a thick wall paper paste. The gravy was too watery. The young girl serving us was very uninterested, forgetting the first (and only) drinks order, then forgetting who ordered what meal. The dinner costs were £9. The veg supplied was nice, although the yorkshire pudding was a bog standard frozen one.The desert menu was a reasonable choice, and we had enough cash, (just), because their card machine was not working, to buy two chocolate brownies at £4.50 each was I thought was a fair price, until they arrived. A tiny portion of brownie, with a scoop of ice cream, not worth £4.50. Not again for us.

I visited here today with my husband, parents and dog. We were so impressed! Lovely warm and friendly staff that couldn’t do enough for us. We sat outside overlooking the pond it was such a lovely setting. The food was absolutely fantastic. The mussels were amazing!! It was also extremely good value. Cannot recommend highly enough, brilliant!

If you will visit this pub, ask for a mushroom sauce that is not on the menu, the chef will do wonders! Great food, just lacks a bit in table management!

On entry was greeted and told to sit where we liked. Sat outside after mentioning to the young girl serving can we place an order as we've been waiting 10 min.Yes not a problem still ignored after 15 mins and someone who arrived after was served and we were ignored. Would not go again.

Booked a table for nine people, and luckily they were able to accommodate us at short notice. The lady on the phone was really pleasant and we booked for 2pm. A gent at the door showed us into the dining room and a young girl served us throughout our visit,who was very efficient and friendly. The food was delicious, large portions and traditional dishes. A few of us had nachos with chilli beef, the chicken curry and the burger was really fresh and tasty. Clearly home-made. The children's meals were plentiful and the drinks were good and reasonably priced. The restaurant had covid restrictions in place and there was plenty of room for us all. I would definitely return and we all enjoyed our visit!

In Pembroke for the day looking for somewhere to eat and running out of ideas we chose the Waterman's. It's on the river under the bridge near the foot of the castle. Sat on the terrace by the water which was nice. Had the best fish and chips I've eaten for a long time. It was huge and the batter was so crispy and the fish fresh off the boat. My family enjoyed their curry with fresh juicy prawns and homemade chicken nuggets. The best meal we had during our break. Wish I'd taken some photos but it was in my belly too quickly! And the staff were lovely too. Top meal.

Wow.... just wow!!! We popped in for a drink on Thursday and locals recommended the Sunday lunch so we booked. Not ones for eating out we took them at their word and booked but weren’t expecting to be wowed. I love food... especially roast dinners!! This was amazing like my grandmother used to make, locally sourced and home cooked. Absolutely amazing!!!

Another friendly, covid safe, eatery offering excellent food in an atmosphere totally devoid of character! It was advertised as looking out over the millpond but social distancing meant all the tables in use were away from the windows! As everywhere we went, the service was fast and friendly.

We had Sunday lunch here and it was very good. Because of the COVID-19 regulations we had to sit outside having not pre-booked. No matter, the weather was kind and the view of the castle is probably the best from any pub in Pembroke.The food was delicious, served piping hot and the portions generous. The beer, Brain's SA, was a really nice pint and the service was excellent. It is a pity we're not staying in Pembroke as I would really like to have a session in here.

We had a good evening meal on the balcony overlooking the millpond. Food was great. Staff friendly. Would visit again.

We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful view of the castle.The food was great, especially the mussels, and all of the waiting team were fab. The staff were able to find us a table on a busy night which was great. The food was good with superb chips.

Having read such good reviews and thought the menu looked interesting we booked for lunch. There was no mention they were offering a limited menu.The staff were pretty disinterested in taking orders or serving customers. When we were eventually served we ordered mussels. The drinks arrived; the Rev James bitter had a large frothy head - first time I have seen that while the pinot grigio was very strange indeed. It was a yellow colour and had a very strange taste. We queried it being pinot grigio and the waitress said it was.The mussels were tired and shrivelled. The crusty bread they were served with was the highlight of a disappointing lunch.

Went for a lovely walk around the castle :) After a stroll we decided we were all hungry so fell into this pub.Staff were nice, covid precautions taken.Luckily their was a space 4 us all , I'd advise book to come as not overly large but well worth it.The meal was huge, freshly cooked and so tasty too.I would highly recommend it. Over looking the water and the swans very peaceful. Outdoor area to sit also overlooking the water :)

Visited today and was not impressed.Not sure if short-staffed, but was not offered menu shown on the web site. Instead just pointed to a limited menu of Beef or Pork Sunday roasts, cod or vegetarian option.Drinks order was forgotten and had to reorder.Whilst starter was fine, the roast dinner was below par and all of us left most of it as not very good.Overall, unimpressed.

Called in this pub for lunch. It has tables on a patio overlooking the river which is a nice place to sit (tables inside as well). Staff were friendly and helpful and COVID aware. Good service. Enjoyable fish and chips.

We popped into this pub/restaurant for a meal. Friendly and welcoming staff with an easy one way in/out system and Covid measures in place. Food was lovely and well worth a visit.

We visited for lunch yesterday, the food and service were excellent, as usual. Friendly attentive staff - Honey and Maz - looked after us throughout our visit. The calamari and mussels were perfectly cooked and served with delicious warm bread, the steaks were divine. The home - made hummus was really good. We are impressed with and reassured by the slightly different layout to ensure the safety of customers and staff during these worrying times (COVID). The Waterman's Arms also has the best view in Pembroke - ask for one of their window tables... looking directly over the Mill Pond with view of the Castle. Or sit on their balcony overhanging the Mill Pond and see if you can spot the resident otter amongst the swans and ducks. If you are in Pembroke, you must visit this pub /restaurant, it's excellent! My wife and I called into this pub on the off chance on a quick visit to Pembroke.We were lucky enough to be bale to sit on the veranda overlooking the river and enjoy a well served drink.The view was outstanding looking over the river with an excellent view of the impressive castle.Unfortunately we were not able to dine as we had enjoyed a snack only a little while earlier. However, we saw seome of the food that was being served and were extremely jealous.

it is very good the food was very fresh. very good service and loads of mussels. felt safe in these uncertain times!

We were delighted with our visit. Really busy bar but luckily we booked ahead and got two tables last minute. Food was fantastic and the staff were great with our 4 x under 5 year olds. Chips to die for and a big success :)

The food looked lovely, we were looking forward to lunch. We stood there for 10 mins without being greeted,a fellow customer waved us through to the staff. Where we then waited another 10mins while the barmaid was filing up glasses without even making eye contact with us, not a single greeting and looking disgruntled despite us being stood right in front of her. Another waitress was serving up food. There were only about 2 tables of food customers and 1 table of drinks. We get that people need to serve, but we were shocked to get not even 1 greeting or shown to our table to wait while we were right in front of the barmaid for 20mins. We left and took our money elsewhere.

Superb food and plenty of it. Great hospitality from the hard working staff. We had a lovely time as a family. And the dog was also fully accommodated. Looking forward to a return visit.

I arrived shortly after the kitchen had closed after a really harrowing day causing me to be much later than I had anticipated. The woman who served me either appealed to the chef's kindred spirit or pulled a few strings and I ended up with a most satisfactory meal. After the trials and tribulations of a day where I learned a dear friend had been diagnosed with cancer, I ended up over imbibing in the pub and forgot to write a suitable review for their excellent food, compassion and customer service. It was 11 months ago and I can't remember what I ate, but it was rather lovely and although I hadn't gone there to seek sympathy (I didn't share my news with anyone there) I think they guessed I'd had a bad day and offered the sort of hospitality that is usually indicative of the most professional establishments. The pub is located on a rather scenic bit of Pembroke, close to the Mill Bridge (as close as one can get without being on it) and the view and the grub was every bit as good as the hospitality. Sorry I didn't get names of anyone there as I'd have written a thank you letter at the time.

Went to this place for a business lunch with a colleague. Location is very nice with a nice view. Service was nice as well. Food was delicious and as expected. Worth the visit.

Visited on a Friday night. We had a classic burger, cassoulet with goats cheese and kids chicken nuggets - all of which were absolutely delicious. All lovely, homemade and very tasty. Beautiful spot by the pond, interior seemed a little shabby at first so the food was a big positive surprise. Highly recommend!

We stopped in for a drink and snack. Great location across the river from the castle. The lady who served us was very friendly. Excellent photos of the castle. We visited in February and it was very cold. But the view of the river was very nice while enjoying an afternoon drInk inside.

We went for a meal with friends and couldn't of wished for a better reception. This place is perfect for a quiet evening or fun filled night.Bobby and Hannah are the best landlord/landlady in town and couldn't be more accommodating.Fully recommend the Watermans. Great food and great atmosphere.

The Watermans stands out as a proper pub. Everyone welcome, excellent atmosphere, drinks for every taste, and if you find yourself a little peckish, the food is top level. Thank you for keeping it real.

Arrived on a cold New Year’s Eve midday. Quickly seated, staff very friendly. Food was great, must say the best chips I have ever had. Staff gave the kids some balloons there were preparing for new year party.

On a whim whilst in Pembroke we decided to have lunch at The Waterman's Arms which we have been to before. It has a slightly shabby look outside but don't be put off - what it contains is a real treat . We found a lovely table in the restaurant area in a bay window with a view over the mill pond. The staff who were attentive and friendly throughout had no problem with the two of us taking a six seater table . They advertise home cooked food and it is with hearty portions . I devoured a delicious chicken liver pate with toasted brioche and the boss has a tasty chorizo , potato , spinach and red onion salad served warm with a perfectly poached egg. Mains were an excellent home made burger and i had the texas chilli served with lovely corn bread . The chilli was amazing made with chunky tender beef rather than mince . I can't comment on puddings as we had no room left to have but can confirm the beer ( rev James) is kept well and there is low alcohol beer available as well . All this with two rounds of drinks for 33 quid and no pressure to add a service charge ( so we left one! ) great value ! Well worth a visit .

We booked Sunday lunch (tried booking by email on their website first of all but got no reply). Have had lovely meals in the past but this one was a huge disappointment. The roast beef was quite rare with blood in and was tough, the brocoli was hard and the suede mash was a dirty colour and had loads of pepper in it. The rest of the meal was just about passable. We mentioned this and got our drinks refunded. I really hope standards pick up again as the food really was excellent in the past.

This seems to be a favorite of the locals. The service was great and the food was unbelievable! Try the home made ice cream.

Expensive food that feels like it was just thrown together out of cheap ingredients ... Dirty toilets, will not return!

Popped in with two hungry children after a visit to the castle. Helpful and friendly staff. Between us we had two curries, a homemade burger and veggie stir fry. We finished with 4 empty plates, so all good. No room for dessert. Would definitely visit again.

My family, while on holiday, had lunch here. the pub is a locals pub not a chain. The interior could do with an upgrade but there are some very good points. The woman that served us was very nice, polite and helpful. The food was great and as we sat at the window table we had a great view of the river. Here's an idea, go here and eat.

We visited as a large family group for a 7pm booking. The waitress was extremely friendly and helped with a chaotic order of drinks which came very promptly.

Lovely view of Pembroke Castle on the balcony over the river. Staff lovely. Pub grub, but ok. To be fair, there was a big function on at the castle that evening, so they were stretched. I’d try it again though for sure!

Food quite simple but very good value for money. Lovely location by the Mill Pond and a nice waterside location veranda

Decided last minute to go out for a meal with the family. On arrival the pub was very busy and the restaurant was full. Fortunately there was a table free in the bar so we decided to stay and order food. The meals arrived quickly and all 4 were delicious, even better washed down with a nice bottle (or 2) of the house red. Staff great and friendly as always, glad to call this my local.

I came with my parents and husband for lunch based on the good reviews and it exceeded my expectations.

We went as a party of 11 (pre booked) we waited a long time for food, even big tables ordered before us got theirs first. They got orders wrong so people had to have different dinners as they didn't want to wait, and a lot of food was literally inedible. When it came to paying the bill they couldn't seem to work it out splitting the bill so we had to do it all ourselves and tell them. Service was bad, waitress knew nothing about the menu and they didn't seem to cater well for dietary needs. Other people told me the food was bad but I gave them nenefit of the doubt but honestly i really wouldn't. Lovely to sit outside but don't order food!

Popped in here several times during our stay in Pembroke. Our family age range 8-54 and everything in between!! Staff are all fab and so helpful and welcoming. Ate here a couple of times, food fresh, well cooked and delicious! Small menu but caters for all. Really reasonably priced, great fun in the pool table and dart board. Outside seating area overlooking mill pond. Would definitely come back here if in the area. Thank you xx

We have eaten here before and we were not disapointed on our recent return. We had the sunday roast, there was a generious serving of meat and a huge supply of various vegatables. This is a place to eat and should not be missed

Although I have rated this 4 stars it's only because I got a seat outside on the veranda which has a beautiful view of the water. If I'd have been inside it would be 2 as it's a v average pub in a great location with lots of locals. The staff are friendly. I didn't eat here so I can't comment on the food. If you visit Go early to get on the veranda otherwise ummmm

Beautiful pub which has a good range of vegetarian options (me and my wife are both strict vegetarians). Can also sit outside and admire the beautiful views or chill inside and play pool whilst having drinks. Cannot recommend enough!

My family and I came here on a Saturday evening. We had booked beforehand and were quickly seated. The location is fantastic with view of the Pembroke Castle. The portions of food were generous and none of us left hungry. My only slight criticism is that the chips and the fish were so dark in colour I'm guessing the oil in the fryer probably needed changing out. Saying that though everything tasted good. The staff and locals were all friendly and accommodating.

Popped in for a beer before leaving the town. Fairly standard pub with a relatively dated interior. Staff were nice and welcoming when ordering and the view from the terrace is amazing.

The food was very good, as was the service. The view from the dining room across the Mill Pond was very relaxing.

THis pub is in a great location and the beer well kept. The food was good quality and the staff were very friendly. I would return when in the area.

My wife and I ate here twice during our recent trip to Pembroke for a concert. The beer is excellent - I'd never drunk Brains beer before and it was delicious and the seating on the balcony overlooking the mill pond and the castle was delightful. We tried their pasta dishes - mac and cheese and fusilli with peppers - and both were delicious: piping hot and very tasty. I also sampled their beer-battered cod and chips which was enormous and very tasty. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. Highly recommended

We stopped off here whilst visiting to Pembroke Castle, to have a drink & make a decision on where to eat that evening, the weather was beautiful so we sat outside on the Deck over looking the castle mill pond & castle walls, the local ale was perfect to take in the view and watch the swans and other water birds, i would have happily stayed all afternoon. the Staff were very friendly and even allowed my 10 year old to ring the last orders bell under strict instruction not to ring it too loudly.

Red velvet prawns not to be missed, home made fish cakes huge! Staff very helpful, Eaten in a beautiful setting next to the water, what more can you ask for

We called in here for a drink over the Easter weekend and sat on the deck overlooking the lake which was lovely up watch the swans. We returned the following evening for food which was just lovely. With 7 people in our group the food was served in a reasonable time and was fresh and home cooked. The moules mariniere starter was delicious.

Staff went above and beyond for us we came in just as the chef was going to leave but with 4 of us they said we could order

The service here was terrible went in for food there was no menus to be seen I asked for a menu an got ignored so I sat down an waited, after half an hour of being ignored I had enough an decided to leave. staff were really rude an the atmosphere was really uncomfortable I would not recommend this place to anyone an suggest that they get new polite staff

Visited this restaurant recently and didn’t rate it highly. We booked a table as we we’re from out of town and being a bank holiday thought it would be wise. We we’re shown to our table which was overlooking the river. The table I noticed was very low to eat at. There were also little flies in the widow. Looking around we noticed food under the table nearby, all over the floor where a baby high chair had been. This was a bit off putting. Our order was taken by a lovely young girl and the food came out quite quickly. I ordered a classic burger but the bacon in it was very fatty. Yeuck. My husband had a ciabatta with chips which was great. For dessert we both had a sticky toffee pudding. That was amazing. Over all I think the poor girl was run ragged as she looked like she was on her own. From our experience I don’t think we will visit again.

What an amazing location overlooking the river and castle. Place should be a goldmine......first impressions outside were a bit grubby. Inside the same unfortunately. Not many customers when we arrived there seemed to be just as many staff but the 'staff' then they also seemed to be having drinks which was a bit strange. Anyway managed to order after about 20mins of looking around + attempting to catch someone's eye. Waitress rushed off her feet. No chat or banter to be had. Food took ages. It was ok but not great. Drinks order came after food arrived. Bit of a let down but didn't bother us too much as it was just a pit stop for an onward journey.

Popped in on Thursday evening,quite late. Very friendly, and stood on the newly opened terrace by the river,overlooking the castle. Watched many bats flying around over the water,absolutely lovely!

We really enjoyed the food here. It was gorgeous. Mussels and chicken wings to start then steak and belly pulled pork burger for mains. The food was tasty and the chips were homemade and crispy. Definitely worth going here just for the chips! However atmosphere is very typical of a cheap, lively pub rather than a finer dining experience.
