Although it looks nice, the food is of a poor quality, if a chef is employed, then they are more of a cafe cook. Slops is all I can describe it as. The meal I had included Avacado, what I was served was guacamole, there is a difference.

The conservatory area of this cafe does not allow customers after 3.30pm despite the cafe closing at 4.30pm. This rule is strictly adhered to and if you happen to be sitting there after about 3.15pm you will suddenly notice the staff vigourously sweeping the floor and cleaning tables around you-obviously wanting you to leave. We have noticed that sometimes the air con is turned up/on (even in colder weather). We recently visited this cafe and had to move tables because of a problem with flies. Another table also had to do this. A young lady came in about 3.45pm with two elderly ladies who sat at the problem table but also needed to move because of the flies. She went into the conservatory but immediately a waitress told her she could not go there. The young lady pointed out there was a fly problem and no other available tables but the waitress was adamant. Luckily some customers left and they were able to sit at that table. We saw several customers try to enter the conservatory but each time a waitress rushed over and stopped them. Several customers then left. The main aim of the staff seemed to be watching the conservatory doors (usually at a distance) and then speeding over to intercept any oblivious customers. I would understand if it was near closing time but there is an hour between the closing of the conservatory and the cafe as a whole. Losing customers did not seem important which, in this day and age, seems ridiculous. The staff should realise that losing customers could result in losing jobs.

Arrived and was greeted by a Little queue. Finial got serviced and after ordering and paying was informed there was a 20 minute wait ( they should of informed us before ordering and paying ) found a table of which we had to clear - should of been done before hand . Drinks were served with no tea spoons and still the tables wasn’t wiped down. Don’t think I will return plus being in wales everything is in English no bilingual signs etc

This is the third time I've eaten here and to he honest I won't be eating g here again. It is such a shame as the place is beautiful.

Nice location, newly refurbished. Can get very busy but have never failed to get a table for lunch. You must know your table number before ordering. Menu choice is limited but good. Service seems to vary with what you order. Teas and coffee no problem and food that you can see. However if you order something that requires the kitchen to be involved and that includes the specials you could be waiting 30 mins, as we have experienced.

Had to clear a dirty table before we could sit down, very slow service yet plenty of staff. Beautiful dinning room but nasty plastic single use glasses with plastic straws?! What’s wrong with tumblers and paper straws ? Other places can do the right thing ... salt and pepper pots would save all the paper too. Food was ok when it arrived but we won’t be back seeing as we’re local and buy lots of plants.

The Strawberry Tarts are gorgeous and they do a good cup of tea. Beyond that it can be considered a tad pricey, but you're there and have just bought a new potting shed and other related paraphernalia so what's another couple of pounds? It does get very busy at times but there are children's colouring pads on the wall which are easily accessible for little ones. It all helps.

I met two local friends here for lunch, not having visited the 'new' cafe before. It was a convenient location for us all, but other than that it's difficult to be very positive about the experience. The ordering system doesn't work. You queue to order and pay, have to stand and wait (a long time) for drinks to be prepared and then they bring your food to the table (eventually), So you can't have food and drinks together if that's what you want, it has to be before or after (which would involve more queuing). The food offering is quite basic and very expensive for what it is. They don't do soup at lunchtime - which I would have thought would be a staple for this type of cafe. The service felt more like a canteen, nothing personal or welcoming about it. All in all this would be quite low down in my choice of venues for the future.

I often visited the previous cafe at this garden centre and I've been to this new one a few times which has always been OK. On the last occasion I felt it was getting worse. The staff were more off-hand and the food was poor. I had a tuna salad that was totally uninspiring with lots of shredded lettuce to fill the plate.I had to crane my neck to see the hygiene rating of 3 which is facing outside on a door to the side and behind the till and staff counter, This isn't the usual door used by the public to access the cafe, I enjoy visiting the garden centre so I hope the cafe improves.

We frequent the watering can at pughs garden centre because it's local, cheap and good food. We also visit the garden centre now and then so it's convenient. I've personally tried just about everything they serve and have never been disappointed, my wife always has jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, she reckons they are the best jacket potatoes anywhere. My favourite is the cheese and potato pie. Don't get me wrong, this isn't gourmet dining but is a nice and unbelievably cheap option for lunch, not sure where the other reviewers have been eating to say it's expensive, must have been the soup kitchen. The staff are friendly, the service is excellent ( they always bring what we order promptly), and we've never been disappointed. A great little place to pop in for lunch, I'd recommend you make your own mind up.

We like Pugh's garden centre and were looking forward to using the new café and as you may know, many garden centre cafes are of a good-to-high standard. So we were disappointed in "The Watering Can" overall. First of all - if you are thinking that a "regular" and "large" coffee will be anything like Starbucks, Costa Coffee or Neros - think again!! "Regular is definitely "small" and "large" is more like "regular". And don't bother with the toasted sandwiches which at £4.50 are GROSSLY over-priced and tasteless. It's ordinary sliced bread for a start. My husband had cheese and onion and we had to search for the cheese which was barely there and pretty mild in taste. On top of that we waited 10 minutes for it by which time we had drunk our small coffee!! I would think it cost them 20p at most to put the sandwich together and I think a profit of £4.30 is GREED. We wont be bothering again, especially as there are several good pubs in the near vicinity where better value food may be found!

Thought we would pop in after visiting the garden centre at about 1pm on a sunday. My mum and sister went few places in front and due to my sisters fussy eating she only wanted cheese toasty to which she was informed no u can't have it just pick out the ham she agreed as she didnt want to make a fuss. There was plenty of staff on but all just wondering around aimlessly and the queue not really going any where. When we eventually got to the many staff huddled around talking I asked if the do cream tea to which it was clear the staff had no idea what this is by many blank faces. Ok then looked around and if I didn't want what looked like stale cake or burnt lasagne I was kinda stuck then I seen tea cakes on the menu. great i thought you cant mess this up. Only to be informed nope you cant have that its only at breakfast. Its a lunch snack! By now I had enough. just get a drink. When the waitress brought out my mums and sisters toasty it was thrown at me and my mum nearly sliding off the other side of the table. No whos are these for. The side salad was brown and according to family the taste was obvious the sandwiches was made days ago. No manager or any one who looked over 20 or in charge in sight. Hiding from complaints I assume. I work in the hospitality trade and if this was my performance on a single shift I would not have a job. How to improve sack all staff serve food you would eat and give customer service you would expect to receive. If you would like me to come in and train your staff and if they will listen then feel free to contact me but I get the idea no one cares. What a shame to a nice garden centre

The service was a bit all over the place and unorganised. Ladies what is up here? The attendant later we found fail to write down on our order. We waited and then I went up to ask. While waiting some other people were complaining of the similar problems with their order. The same attendant duly informed me this was missed by not hearing. This was hard to believe when the person who ordered the food was right in front of her while giving us our order number. This number was not removed when part of our order came out ,with the waitress who said the other part be out shortly. The chicken soup was nice but so small with half a banquette. The lasagne was good value. The Carrot cake dry if been there for a few days and appeared to just be a over priced for profit Costco cake. We love Costco cakes if it was, hence the order. Arrived middle of the afternoon on Sunday for a very late snack lunch. Five or more members of staff milling around behind the counter, but queue for food and drink only moving very slowly. This gave plenty of time to check out the service; far too much time spent talking to each other and disappearing and re-appearing from the back kitchen and far too little time spent interacting with / serving customers. I was disappointed to notice one assistant split two slices of bread apart, put them down on the counter then press them down, for no apparent reason, withe the flats of her hands and only after that put her blue food-handling gloves on. Glad that wasn't my sandwich. That said our toasties were good when they arrived with a small crisp salad and the coffee acceptable; we felt pretty reasonable value for money.
