Like others we hadn’t been for a while and had previously had really good food . This time both the haddock and chips were dry and tasteless . Such a shame . A waste of money and calories !

To me the best fish and chips in the northeast, its a nice little cafe with a takeaway side and friendly helpfull staff. It has a good menu with great food!

Takeaway fish and chips, good value, nice generous portion of chips! £8.50 for a cod and chips. Staff are friendly, easy to order, they accept cash or card. There are some benches across the road. Or, what I like to do especially when it’s minus 2 is to eat in the car! With the view of the North Sea ❤️ Low Lights car park nearby is free and perfect for a walk alone the promenade after devouring your fish and chips.

How can a chip shop get basics so wrong!! The chips were anaemic!! Very very undercooked and tasteless!! My husband ordered haddock and was given cod!! I ordered a spam fritter which tbf was the only thing that tasted ok! The “large” portion of curry was watery and tasteless!! To top it all off, the lady serving had false nails on and no gloves!!! Absolutely disgraceful place! Will never be going back!!

Food was actually beautiful. The fish was probably the best I've ever had, but there was a hair in my food, and it completely put me off. All staff should be wearing hair nets.

Sign of a good restaurant when you have to queue to get in. Well worth standing in a queue, though. Amazing fish and chip shop both for sitting in and for takeaway, best in the area. Its been over a year since weve been here. Very disappointing. Fish and chips lukewarm, not piping hot. Batter not crispy. Sorry but we wont be back.

Great Fish and Chips with mushy peas, with pot of decaf tea on the side. Walked here from Roker so glad to get inside in the warm and enjoy a great lunch before walking on to Whitley bay and then metro back £9 pensioners special great value.

Cheap and cheerful, sit in and take away. Fantastic fish and chips, but other menu selections available. Quick service by very friendly staff. They even serve wine!

Been coming to the waterfront for as long as I can remember (late nineties) very warm and friendly atmosphere, reasonable pricing for this day and age and most of all delicious fish and chips. Will go no where else on the Fish Quay

We always visit here for our fish n chips totally fantastic. I am gluten and dairy free which they accommodate and dog friendly. Highly recommend a visit xx

Got fish sandwich with chips and started with worst ever D&V at around 0100 that evening. Can only be down to this as had nothing else to eat all day. Will not be back.

Every time we visit Newcastle we make sure we visit The Waterfront . The fish is excellent . We just sat in silence enjoying the food. We will be back

Bit of wait to get seated thats a good sign, waitress seating us was a bit surly and abrupt but she was busy. Food arrive quickly and hot, cooked to perfection.

Use to go to Colemans but have found this place to be so much better. Lovely fish and chips.

Very good service (food excellent)

Perfect just perfect. Lunchtime on a Tuesday busy, but had a table in less than three minutes. Haddock, chips, curry sauce and a pot of tea. Haddock so fresh it must have been right off the boat, golden light crunchy batter, chips were cooked to perfection too. Even the curry sauce arrived in its own silver gravy boat, and the portion was generous. All this was an over 60s special at £9.00 all in! Certainly coming back soon.

Excellent experience, great food at a good price with superb friendly service

After eating at this restaurant regularly l was applauded last week when l went into the ladies toilet after eating fish and chips which were lovely as always. The member of staff who had served my husband and l came out of the toilet when l was washing my hands and went straight back into the restaurant. When l came out of the toilet and we went to pay the bill she was handling clean cutlery to take to another customer. On leaving the restaurant l rang the manager regarding her lack of hygiene but he was totally disinterested. If this is the standard of hygiene in this restaurant we will not be going again regardless of the lovely food.

Good food well presented and pleasant staff nothing is a problem to them.

Superb fish & chips and great service in a traditional fish & chip restaurant setting. Lemon Sole and Cod both cooked beautifully, with lovely, large flakes of fish.

The best fish & chips on the fish quay. We love going to waterfront. Plaice & chips is yummy, not greasy. Batter is crisp. They do a pensioner special aswell.

I feel lucky finding this little gem in North Shields. Fresh fish really nice and natural chips. Good prices. You can eat in the restaurant inside or on an outside bench with a table. They sell coffee, other drinks and ice-cream. Plenty of parking space and nice walk by the fisheries.

The absolute best fish and chips 💖 the staff are amazing so helpful efficient full of happiness 😁 had a lovely bottle of white wine to chill out.. sticky toffee pudding to follow happy days.. All very reasonably priced.. Big thankyou to the best in the northeast.. 🎉💕🌹🌹

I am the lady who was asking a male member of staff for some napkins as my husband felt sick he was only sick a little into two napkins and there was no mess to clear up at all Sara one of the staff was brilliant she came straight away and took the plate with the dirty napkins on there hygiene standards are brilliant have been going to the waterfront for over 25 years every week and have found all staff brilliant

Hygiene standards were not met on our recent visit. We waited at the door as is the norm for a table to become vacant. A lady from a four seater table at the window hurried over to a staff member who was standing near the till. We overheard her say that the elderly man with her had been sick. The staff member just nodded while she grabbed some napkins and went back to the table. I quietly told my husband we would not accept being seated at their table. The establishment did not check on how much mess had been made at the table and there no attempt to clean up and decontaminate the area. Disgusting.

We love coming to this place. There’s a young lady with an initial tattoo on her finger, don’t know her name but she always has a smile and is a total credit to the business. Nothing is too much trouble from anyone that serves you.

A little gem of a place , very busy. Food was gorgeous, staff very friendly and attentive . Prices extremely reasonable , cracking value. My friend used the disabled toilet , he said there were plenty of grab rails and all toilet facilites were immaculate. We will be back .

Lovely fish , but the chips were just a pile of mush , soggy , not nice at all . Felt £15 for fish bites was a bit excessive

After years of using the waterfront and recommending to family and friends, we called again today. The chips were fantastic, but the star of the show, the fish was abysmal, it was dried out and had obviously been lying there to long, time to find another chip shop.....fool me once!

2nd time I’ve been here working in the area, fish chips and a cup of tea. All outstanding.

Gets crowded with big que feel like you have to rush but lush fish and chips

I have used this shop for quite a few years and they never disappoint. They are sometimes very busy both for take aways and the restaurant but its worth waiting for.

Food excellent and good sized portions at a reasonable price. Fish was large and well cooked, chips also freshly cooked. Staff very friendly.

The very best in fish n chips is what you get here, there is a large menu to choose from, they also serve alcohol, they have a takeaway shop right next door and can get extremely busy, this also includes the restaurant, so be prepared to wait a little as the queues can be 20 deep, but by god its worth the wait, if you cant wait then pop into takeaway next door and get a box of fish and chips and eat them down by the beach only a few mins walk ( but watch out for the gulls, because the like to steal fish and chips, but then again anything you have in your hand , if your granny is the same as mine, little,lovable, and beautiful keep hold tight as i swear one of those gulls try to nick her from me last week ( don't say i didn't warn you) oh if you have a car then sit in it and have your food !

Lovely chippy on the fish quay. Price was decent but sadly the food wasn't as lovely as I remember. Chips were quite hard and the sausage was really tough/reheated. Not as fresh!

Brilliant food and excellent price

This chippy is by far the best- in the area and beyond- they have better and many more options on the menu that cater to so many more people... eg- a smaller fish and chips for a fair price and the options to batter the fish, serve with no batter or to lightly batter (stripped) so people like me with part of my digestive tract missing and can't eat "normal" portions or handle heavy batter or grease can order what they can handle fairly. The food is never dripping in grease so you aren't eating chips out of a puddle of oil but they have the best flavour for sure. The shop is spotlessly clean, as is the restaurant section, and there is always a queue (not an impossible one you wait ages in line for) but people are served promptly and politely by staff who appreciate your custom. I honestly can't find anything negative about this place and I always speak as I find so I am positive you will be really pleased with your food and experience here 🙂🐟🍟

Chips and mushy peas lovely but the fish was very skinny and heavily battered not good at all

The food was great, staff were polite and friendly, but I wish it had more free space inside. The tables were too dense and lacked a good view. Had a feeling like a prisoner.

We were told about the "whale & chips" at Seaton Sluice by our rental cottage hosts. It's called that due to the portion size. We stopped by on a Tuesday for lunch. Our order was cooked fresh for us. We've never had such white cod that was flaky and delicious. It was definitely worth going to. Highly recommended visiting this chippy.

The fish was fresh and the chips were good. This is the best and most consistent chippy in shields and a regular for us to get fish and chips when we want to sit in or take out. The service is amazing a big call out to the female waiters (can you say waitresses) who are efficient and charming. If things do go wrong then they try hard to out it right.

Weve gone here for years but the last 2 weeks have been very poor chips just one great mush you couldnt pick one up with a fork fish is getting smaller has it been taken over? We may try other venues nearby just to see but lately so dissapointing

Great fish and chips I have been coming here for years. A shame they don't give a free slice of bread like they used to though.

Been here several times and it's fish & chips are perfect. Always absolutely fresh produce, firm white fresh tasting fish, batter crispy light crunchy. Not a chance of stale oils nor soggyness. Chips likewise fresh, fried, to perfection, healthy brown looking. Very speedy, friendly service! There are 2 entrances, a eat-in restaurant part, and a takeaway part and there are tables outside to sit across the road if its a suitable day. Queues are guaranteed at this place, it's a local legend!

Beautiful sunny day and sitting outside with a gorgeous beer from Twelve pub next door. Decided to order a takeaway chips to snack Probably the worst portion of chips ever. So greasy they dripped in fat, pale colour and couldn't even pick up with a fork as they fell apart with all the grease. So disappointing!!

This proved a popular place to get take-away fish and chips on a bank holiday Monday. Tables and benches opposite the chip shop offered a place to sit while tucking into the food.

Wow!?!? We went to the Waterfront on The Fishquay in North Shields after a leisurely drive out. Over the moon with the welcome, the service, the staff and the ecstatic food. For a Fish and chip restaurant the menu is quite extensive and reasonably priced. We were delighted to see that there was a "pensioners special" Haddock or Cod with chips, mushy or garden peas and Tea or Coffee for £9 per person, WOW!! an absolutely fabulous price in today's economic climate. We love fish 'n chips and have tried lots of eat ins' and takeaways over the years, but this place wins hands down. We cannot recommend it highly enough, if you live in the North East or are visiting, give this place a try, like us you'll be back.

Great fish & chip restaurant on north shields quay. Fish is fresh, batter is light and fluffy and all fried food is cooked in beef dripping and not seed oils which I was really happy with. You normally have to que so take a coat if its nippy out. Lots of old people eat here as they do a pensioners discount. Best in North Shields. Only bettered by Colemans in South Shields which is the nicest fish shop in north east.

Love the great food, skampi was delicious Cod and Halibut was awesome. Calamari can be improved by using thicker cut, so it doesn't dry out easily. Had heard time tearing off the sauce packets. Wish I was living near by, I would have visited again.

Nice fish sitting in good prices

Lovely battered haggis, which is to be trusted by all as a plentiful eat. It was meaty like a haggis ought to be. My wife ha cod and chips, the smaller version was enough again for both of us. All in all it's the place you want to be heading for when visiting N. Shields quayside.
