As I am disabled we were offered a spacious table close to the fire by very friendly and helpful staff. We only wanted a light lunch & chose small portion of tagliatelle, prawns & smoked salmon with waffles to follow. Excellent food prompt service. Really good and highly recommended. Thanks!

Small friendly village pub. We had great food tonight…fish and chips & steak & ale pudding with chips. Our food was piping hot - great portions & tasted lovely. The bar staff are really friendly and attentive. As it is a small traditional pub probably better to book a table in advance. The bar area is busy with plenty of atmosphere. Dog friendly too!!

Last went here over a decade ago and not very good. Heard the pub is now a great place to go. Just tried lunch there with my wife. Good thing we booked a slot, as busy. All I can say is great food, friendly staff, and a menu with good choices. Ticks all the boxes, including parking and beer garden. Will be back very soon.

This was just a spur of a moment decision. We had been here some time ago and found this pub very welcoming then. To be honest nothing had changed, apart from the fact that was not as crowded as last time which worried us a bid. Of course we were proved wrong! The service was excellent, the food was delicious and reasonably priced with an unusual but nevertheless inspiring choice suiting any taste. This semi-rural pub which has been here for more than 200 years is very much geared to the local community which makes a visit rather special.

Disappointing Sunday lunch. Meat was from a catering pack and not carved off the joint (thin, fatty and tasteless). Gravy was watery and thin. Veg and potatoes were ok. Deserts also microwaved sticky toffee pudding rather than home made but tasted ok. Service was good and people friendly but I’m used to better quality food.

Good country pub near Maidstone. Easy parking. Friendly and helpful staff. A reasonable menu with a fair selection of food, including a small specials board. Good to see that smaller portions are offered at a reduced price for those with smaller appetites. Service is leisurely, and was no particular problem for us, but if you were in more of a hurry (a business lunch or similar) it might not be the best place for you (perhaps speedier service would have been available if you asked). The main drawback was that drinks (alcoholic, non alcoholic and hot drinks) were all on the expensive side.

Due to time constraints this report is slightly late as we came here some 4 weeks ago. As far as atmosphere and service is concerned, this pub/restaurant cannot be bettered. Everyone is friendly and most welcoming and we really enjoyed our stay. Under normal circumstances I would have given full marks but unfortunately the food was somewhat lacking the finesse experienced earlier. Perhaps due to the pressures created by the Corona virus or perhaps a change in the kitchen the food - though ample - was quite bland to be honest. The steak appeared more heated than fried without any spices and my wife's fish was rather the same. That said, we really enjoyed ourselves and we shall definitely be back- just some more spice will do well...

We used the Walnut Tree in the past when we lived in East Farleigh but that was some years ago. On this recent visit we found a very different and recently renovated pub, both inside and outside. We ate in the garden with friends to take advantage of the government’s £10 August discount, and we were in for a real treat. The large garden, alongside the even larger car park, was beautifully kept and had a new raised arbour, though we were sat under the walnut tree that gave the pub its name.I had the sirloin steak with chips, onion rings, mushrooms, tomatoes, peas and salad with my wife having the lighter crab and mango salad. Both were cooked and presented to perfection. For dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding and jam sponge respectively, each wholesome and delicious. Service was enthusiastic, timely and considerate, the perfect complement to the lovely food. I took a look inside the pub and found it tastefully updated without ever threatening its rural quaintness. I gather the pub is funding a 25% food discount in September though saving money need not be the motivation to visit this excellent eatery, we will make regular visits regardless of the price.

Just visited the walnut tree for the first time tonight - from the minute I called to book our table and Gemma greeted me warmly, we then went on to have fabulous customer service all evening - I think every single member of staff took the time to speak to us! Even after a busy Monday on the eat out to help out scheme... lovely varied menu (not just chips) and the food was delicious and homemade, we’ll definitely be back for more under the pretty lights in the garden - would recommend here to everyone! I would vehemently dispute the bitter reviews left below... if customers cannot understand the new covid regulations and the need for reservations then the pub should not be made to pay the price in poor reviews - this is the friendliest pub we’ve been to in a long time - personal service and conversation a strong point, one waitress even came to say goodbye at the end of her shift! I would feel confident in recommending here for a lovely night out for delicious food and great atmosphere!

We have visited here many times and it’s always been ok.Although the pub and garden are lovely, the food is poor.‘Homemade’ quiche, killed in the microwave. Steak unseasoned and flavourless. Onion rings cheap and tasted like the were cooked in old/dirty oil. It’s such a shame as the menu is varied but poorly executed. Get a chef, cook to order and don’t turn out cheap freezer food. Slice some onions, make your own batter. Make chips from potatoes....it would make a world of difference, harsh but true.Disappointingly won’t return.

Today my walking group and myself wound our way through the idyllic country roads of Maidstone and found ourselves at The Walnut Tree. The pub was open. There was nobody sitting inside. The garden area had one couple sitting all alone. When my over 50s friends and I walked in and told the person behind the bar we had walked long and far go get there and were really looking forward to a drink, we were told unless we had booked we could not come in.Even after explaining that one of our party had a leg injury and we needed to rest for a short while, we were not permitted to come in. We were told the tables inside and out were all reserved for evening meals. This was at 5pm! We asked whether we could come in and have a drink whilst we waited for a taxi to come and collect us.....No! We were given a jug of water to drink whilst we stood outside and waited for a taxi.Their sign states they are a friendly pub....in our view they are the most unfriendly pub in Maidstone.Shocking!!!!Good luck to all who go there.Never again for us.

The economy is desperate for money why were we turned away. Are they only interested in government money. Visiting this part of the country is always a treat and we have sampled the menu in several local pubs but today this visit excelled all the rest in this area.

The wife and I made our first visit to the recently refurbished pub on Monday evening. As we know the landlord of the George, in Leeds village (kent) is overseeing this pub and that the George does decent food, this was a nice surprise. Our starters were nice and my main meal, from the specials board- Prawn linguini was as good as any from an Italian restaurant. My wifes steak wasn't to good, but edible. All of her meal was somewhat dry, suggesting perhaps that it had been under a heat lamp whilst my meal was being prepared, who knows? However, and unbeknown to us, this establishment was giving a decent 25 percent off main meals which made the steak a bit more palatable and our meal, with a couple of drinks each cost a very good £50.00. And we left a tip too as the sevice was good and friendly too

We called in on a Tuesday night without a reservation and a table was made available to us. We both ordered beer battered fish and chips and we were surprised to be served with a very nice plate of food approx 10 minutes after we placed our order. We both had a sizeable piece of fish that was delicious. The chips and veg were also very good.

Five of us visited The Walnut Tree on Saturday night for a meal. First impressions were of a well kept, attractive 16th century inn with a lovely garden. Ample parking. The food and the range of drinks was absolutely excellent and the service was second to none - quick, friendly and attentive. We had a wonderful night and will undoubtedly visit again when next in the area, highly recommended!

A period public house which has been renovated, with attention to detail/period by Jason and the project Manager Alison, I am told, but the boss may say differently. An award winning pub with great character and plenty of parking available. The low Tudor beams may not suit everyone!

This was the first time we visited the pub after its refurbishment, although we are local. Place done up nicely but kept its old world charm. Good pub menu with the addition of an excellent specials board. Large enough for choice but small enough to be freshly cooked. When the food arrived it was well presented, decent size portions and very tasty. Well priced too. Staff were friendly and attentive. In all very good, we will be back and will recommend

I 1st visited this pub over 50 years ago and have been eating here since we moved nearby. This was our 1st visit since the pub re-opened and we were so pleased to learn that it had re-opened. What a let down though! The food whilst of good quality was expensive, I had pan cooked cod with cassoulet. Odd that cassoulet had no pork meat in it and that the sauce was thin. Chips were good. One of us found the burger to be dry lacking sauce although ketchup was on hand. salads accompanying were rather simple i.e straight out of the bag. Presentation and service time was not an issue. What was was that we were given a bill with drinks we had not had on it. Further an orange and lemonade in a high ball glass, under 1/2 pint was £3.70. We complained and the bill was corrected and the charge for the orange and lemonade reduced to 60p. Thanks for that. When considered; burgers at £12 cod at £14.00 drinks at London prices, we were very disappointed.

We visited this pub for the first time, taking advantage of the two-for-one on mains during February. We will be going back as the food (pub type food) was excellent. We were a small party and sat in a small cosy room at the back of the pub. It had all been recently decorated. Very friendly staff, and the garden had been well laid out and looked as it it would be good in the summer.

Wow what a friendly and hospitable Inn, with plenty of character from the last 450 years or so it’s been gracing the long very Kent countryside. Superb food, friendly service, good parking and ( during February weekdays at least so far ) 2 for 1 main meals. This has got to be good - and it surely was. Excellent meal.

Heard this pub was under new ownership and had been refurbished. Arrived 5 pm on Sunday to be greeted by a cheery lass. Hubby had roast beef and I had Steak &/Kidney Pudding. Couldn’t fault service and food was fantastic - in fact so good that we went back tonight and another cheery lass greeted us and had another lovely meal. Looks like establishment being well supported by locals and long may it continue. Lovely cosy place and can’t wait to return again.

Visited last Friday lunchtime and the pub was packed! We were greeted as soon as we arrived and when we asked about a table for two the staff apologised for the wait, served us drinks and duly showed us to a table once one became available. Really friendly and helpful staff in a cosy and clean bar/restaurant.
