Online menu isn't the same as in the pub. Food was not fresh. Was only people in the restaurant during lunch time. Overall thought the reviews made it good. In reality it's just a drinking pub.

We booked a table for 6 to celebrate my wife’s birthday at 7pm on Saturday. We were told we could only have the table until 9:00pm. When we arrived there was a lovely log fire burning in the bar area. Then it went downhill..a number local guys were sat at the bar and just looked at us, making no attempt to allow us access to order a drink. I squeezed through them and my wife followed. We were completely encircled by the locals and I had to stand sideways at the bar. Then one of the locals deliberately pressed up against my wife’s back while leaning right over her to pick up his drink. No word of apology or “excuse me”. We then moved to the area away from the fire and into the room by the restaurant away from the bar area and eventually to our table. Service was very slow even though we were the only table! All the young staff were very friendly. The noise from the bar area got louder and louder with one or two of the women really screeching and most of them shouting at each other to be heard. Our starters arrived and were fine but the mains were not. Goats cheese was fairly cold, steak really tough and chewy, ham egg and chips pretty bland. No one else arrived in the restaurant and we left around 9:30. As we were leaving one of the local guys by the door decided to pass wind really loudly and made some “clever” schoolboy comment. I’m sure it’s great for the few locals in the bar but not for us. We won’t be returning.

I think you need to be a local to enjoy this pub. There's not much space inside in the pub area, the ale was okay but I wish I'd had a wine or bottled beer. The good bit was the gorgeous fire between the restaurant and pub area, if you can get there it's lovely.

Went on one of my wife's Groupon adventures last night. Sometimes the restaurants can be underwhelming but sometimes you can find a real gem and last night was certainly the latter. We arrived at the Walnut tree in Yalding to be greeted by a beautiful Tudor style building built in 1492. We were shown to our table and ordered drinks while we perused the menu. Food was ordered and starters arrived, good portion size and quality was great. Off to a good start! We had both ordered rump steak for the main and when it arrived at the table, again very well presented and the size of the steak, WOW! But the best was to come. So often when you order steak, it isn't cooked to your liking but this was perfect and the flavour was great. The service was efficient and friendly without harassing you, which is a major plus point. All in all a very pleasant evening and a location that I would definitely visit again.

This was a Groupon voucher which was for 2 courses and a glass of wine x 2. We were told there was only one starter left and lots of mains unavailable so were given the a la carte menu to choose from thankfully. How they can have run out of everything on a wednesday lunchtime beggars belief! Now the food was excellent I can't deny that but always served on the wrong type of plate. Sticky wings on a very small wooden board with a COLD finger bowl . Pie was delicious with creamy mash and lovely fresh broccoli. However the place is run by very surly charmless youngsters. No one asks if everything is alright, they mope around with glum faces and asked us if we wanted the bill before asking if we wanted dessert or more drinks. We just owed £11 for the extra drinks . I gave her a £20 note and asked for £5 back. Not a word of thanks for the tip, the wallet was just dumped back on the table. I wish I hadn't left one now! When we left we called out bye and thanks and she could hardly take her eyes off her eye pad. Unfortunately we will not be going back.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. It is a noisy, shabby, and very very cold place to be. Had to go to the bar to ask if we could order food, after waiting 20 minutes for a server. Ordered Sunday roast, after 55 minutes it had not appeared, not a word from a server or the kitchen to explain why. Everything at the walnut tree is so very tired, right down to the lumps of old foam for sitting on. Never again.

Booked for six people . Three weeks in advance. Clearly stated on booking form we were coming for cod and chip thurs special. Have been to chequers a fair few times and decided to give the walnut a try. Big mistake. On arrival advised only 1 portion of fish left. So other five guests ended up picking off regular menu. How is this when we ordered so far in advance and said why we were attending that day. Starters came out nachos rip off. 10 pounds for a plate of crisps with plastic cheese on and pots of dip. Could have made that for 50p. Other starters were fine. We then waited not short of 2 hours for our mains. The one portion of fish was baked to death and inedible and they forgot to heat the peas they were stone cold. . The scampi was rock hard the burger was passable and the ploughman’s were average but you can’t muck that up to be fair. We don’t complain as we were all so fed up of being in there by now. No offers of drinks nothing whilst waiting for the two long hours. I Did try emailing today to resolve this but no reply. Will never return and will not recommend. Thoroughly disappointed.

I hadn't been here for several years so made a point of seeking it out last night for a drink with a friend. The nice quiet atmosphere upon arrival soon disappeared when a large group arrived, two adult males and several young teen males. From the outset the group very very badly behaved, loud , rude and abusive and lots of swearing and running round the bar. Any landlord worth their salt would have asked them to leave, unfortunately the girl behind the bar who clearly lacked experience just served them and did nothing to challenge their behaviour. (Possibly as they were local?) Couldn't wait to leave, I wouldn't recommend it unless you fancy an evening with the Chavs.

We waited over an hour for the food to arrive, and it was the worst most overcooked roast ever! They clearly don't roast a whole joint, but cook each slice at a time, and it was bland, with the texture of a twig. The burger was so burnt it was bitter. The roast potatoes tasted like they were cold, and the warmed in an oven all day. You'd do better to buy a precooked dinner from a supermarket and microwave it at home!

Some vegetables and the Yorkshire puddings were burnt. Advised by chef, via waitress, that glazed vegetables would be burnt because of the glaze! This didn’t explain the burnt Yorkshires? Jim saw to us and he suggested he turned the music down which he did . Sheila ordered Cumberland sausage with potatoes and garnish . I went for sirloin teak media with chunk chips and pepper sauce and tomatoe and lettuce . Sheila said the Cumberland was out of this world. My steak was spot on and the chips were spot on too. Salad was very fresh indeed, I didn't eat all the chips as I was well full up and I left some of the chips which were fantastic. We didn't order dessert as we arrived late and they were clearing up . Very good indeed we will certainly be going there again soon ., Thanks Jim for your very attentive manner which was very much appreciated see you soon.

Lovely charming pub with indoor and outdoor seating. Was only there for an orange juice so can't comment on food service but it looked tasty from what I saw. Had toddler playing outside and there were broken glass pieces all over the floor, under the table. Not safe housekeeping before opening!

Beautiful pub set in the very pretty village of Yalding. Very dog friendly with a nice welcome from other people drinking in the bar. Very friendly member of staff who looked after us all night and did a great job even though he was clearly...

Sunday lunch for four. Two had beef and two had turkey. Two slices of meat per person, although tasty, was expensive for £19 and £13 respectively. The seasonal vegetables were a pile of cabbage and a very small parsnip plus two roast potatoes. The large Yorkshire pudding was delicious. To charge £1.50 for extra gravy was ridiculous and something I have not seen before and £3. 50 for cauliflower cheese was excessive considering the lack of vegetables with the meal. The meal was average but not exceptional.

Had lunch today at The Walnut Tree using a Travelzoo voucher. We were not disappointed. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Generous portions of good pub food. Deserves to have more customers.

Great food, great drink. A beautiful and warm environment. I've not met a single member of staff that isn't just lovely. Even the punters are all lovely. By far, the best pub in Yalding. Highly recommend, and highly rate. They even have space for private events in... Something I've been heavily thinking of utilizing.
